Hey guys, installed the 720p files for 2.3.4 and here are the results:
youtube.com/watch?v=tOSKsdkT2WQ
GREAT quality and less blocking than standard 640x480. Now all I need is courage to root and flash phone

Any idea if it will work on cm7?

do you use the regular camcorder app or the lgcamera app? coz i cant find the720p option in the normal app and lgcamera records some really weird video(zoomed in, with lots of lines)
@iammodo: No, it won't work, as this fix is not for Froyo but Gingerbread kernels.
@jayeshrc: You have to use LG Camera ( file format: mp4, encoder: h264 or mp4, bitrate: I chose between 6 and 10, audio: aac->I chose 22kHz and 96kbit/s) and you need the red camera (Bayer module camera).
this is my video recorder result:
youtube[dot]com/watch?v=BzOkGZKUwlE
I'm using jboogie3s blurry ginger v2.0 ROM which bases on 4.5.1-134. I recorded using lgcamera free with settings as in dev thread. My result is too much line noise. Am I doing something wrong?
I uploaded using youtube app directly from my defy, but in youtube it is 480p.
Thanks and sorry for my english

thanks. However I will keep my rom because it's stable and 720p recording isn't a must for me.
I will wait until there is perfect gb ROM with 720p integrated.
so, I don't need to remove 720p mod libs?
How many fps do you get?

Come on.. I'm sure someone has a solution to my problem.. I'm using a red lens defy with the 2.3.4 gb and lgcamera.. What could possible be wrong?
jayeshrc, did you installed the files needed for 720p recording first? just a guess
Obviously, yes
With zip from clockworkmod or with adb, root explorer? I think something is missing that's why you can't record with LGCamera.
Zip using clickworkmod recovery..

not very impressing... what would ~17fps be good for? it lags like hell!
I get 23 fps allmost all the time with LGCamera.
I'm using JBoogie3 Blurry Ginger 2.0, and when i tried to install the 720p patch with clockworkmod, it would always say "completed successfully " but when i started the phone i noticed, that in fact, it hasn't done anything , so i ended up copying the needed files with root explorer and then it was working fine . So all you having problems, try checking if the update.zip has actually installed.
I'm pleased to report that, me being an anime watcher, 720p mkv are finally working with diceplayer, and if you can't get diceplayer you can demux mkv and remux to mp4 (working in native player, although sometimes it will say something like "file not supported", just click it again and again, and it will work ), and convert ass subtitle to srt (i recommend mobo player for playback).
Although playback falls to 20 fps, but its very watchable.

Hi guys,
I'm suffering trying to get some videos to play on my epic. They are MKV: h264 (848x480) and ogg. At first I thought the phone saying it wouldn't support the video was the audio codec, which I tried remuxed as mp3 and wav, neither helped. At this point I am wondering it the h264 resolution isn't supported?
However, another weird issue is my epic also won't play some videos I already reformatted for my ipad. These are MP4: h264 768x576 and AAC. I can't imagine the epic being more limited than the crippled ipad...
Am I missing something here? Everywhere I look, all of these formats are supposed to be supported (well, maybe not ogg). Also, every once in awhile one of these combinations will play, but with missing audio, no subs, can't seek, freezing video, etc. Always some error, and usually just outright says the system doesn't support the format.
Thanks for the help guys, this is stressing me out lol, so sick of trying conversions.
What software are you using? Handbrake with Normal profile works just fine on the Epic (but High Profile does not work).
Last time I tried to find a decent video transcoder for Windows it was a nightmare, maybe this will help you (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Free_video_conversion_software).
If that doesn't workout you could try this: Find a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu, burn it to cd, when its loaded click "Try Ubuntu", and once connected to the internet press Alt+F2 and copy in "(sudo apt-get install arista); arista-gtk". I tried another program called Transmaggedon, but although it gave more control over transcoding, it didn't appear to work.
Ya handbreak did work. Unfortunately I still have to demux both the original and post-hb file to transfer the subs over as handbreak isn't doing it.
Thx for the help. I would still like to know the resolution limitation tho so if anyone knows...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
So I have been fooling around with it some more and found that when I recode using handbreak I don't need to change the vid resolution, just have to force it to 24fps and everything, vid/audio/subs, sync fine (source is 30fps).
I don't think the epic supports ogg/vorbis audio, which explains why the source material didn't work, but then after remuxing with compatible audio why wouldn't it work? All I can think of is handbreak is compressing the bitrate even though I'm not changing any settings there...
I'll update with any new findings.
I took another look around and it looks like SUPER would work quite well. It can use FFmpeg which has support for pretty much every known format and gives you a lot of control over the output. I really didn't expect to find anything this good on Windows, but FFmpeg was originally used under GNU/Linux, so it isn't as surprising.

Strange, I run mkv with no problem at all. I use Double Twist as my player. Not sure whether this has built in codecs for mkv. I never checked because I can play everything on my phone. Except damn Netflix of course.
Thx for the recommendation chinoto.
The mkv capablity should be built into the phone independent of the software playing it (at least that's my understanding). All of my reencoded mkv's are working fine which I'm attrbuting to the lower bit rate.
The original bitrate was 1,534Kbps (video), handbreak compresses it to 681Kbps at the same resolution (24fps from 30fps original for sync though).
What's the highest bitrate you guys have had work correctly (no syncing issues even after seeking)?

I just tried to play my frst 720p .mkv in a while on my phone and it wouldn't play in the stock player (it would before...with subtitles.) So I dl'ed rockplayer lite and it says hardware acceleration not available but it plays...with distorted sound and the image is all jumpy.
QQ player flat out says "audio codec not supported"
All of this worked perfectly wth stock player on di18/dk28

So I have been considering the Ion as an upgrade from my ATRIX 4g but I have one criteria than the next phone I get cannot fail, or else there is no point in upgrading my phone because overall, I am happy with my current phone. I was wondering if the ion has the ability to natively decode hi-profile H.264 encoded video in an .mkv file. I have literally thousands of files on my PC and I don't want to re-encode them, especially because most of them have subtitles and that makes them extra hard to re-encode.
So if someone could find and test out some h.264 hi-profile encoded mkv video in 720p or 1080p, and report back the results of how it played, I would be super grateful! (Just FYI most .mkv files are h264 and most videos encoded in h.264 are encoded in hi-profile, so the files aren't that rare in case it seemed daunting to find a file like that) Thanks so much!

+1 Confirmed. MX Player is the jam! I have yet to try 1080p personally, so I can't report on that. But all of my movies that are MKV H.264 720p, play just fine.

Right now i'm doing some research to make some improvements on Camera and Audio to our device.
Things i've done so far:
Code:
[LIST]
[*][COLOR="Red"]V2[/COLOR]
[*]Enabled AGC
[*][COLOR="Red"]V1[/COLOR]
[*]Doubled to 320kbps with stereo audio encoding (Recorded videos, whatsapp and probably any other app that record sound will get crystal clear audios, caution with your data usage. Doubled encoding means doubled size)
[*]Doubled to 20 Mbit/sec video encoding 720p
[*]Bumped to 99% JPEG
[/LIST]
To do list:
Force 1080p recording (it has no affect playing with media_profiles.xml yet)
AGC - Automatic Gain Control (if you record something very loud like a concert, the sound will get very ****ed up)
What I know:
Motorola has disabled AGC for some reason I don't know. If you look at audio_effects.conf you'll find some Dolby code and AGC, AEC and NS as commentaries.
AGC, AEC and NS relies on pre_processing and libaudiopreprocessing.so, which wasn't declared on the file in first place.
The sensor has 1080p capabilities (pipeline and everything), since we share the same camera module as Nexus 5. I believe we can fine tune some stuff with the camera apk. For now I want to try this first to later research with libs/drivers.
I've managed to decompress the APK file but i have no idea how to decompile DEX, ARSC and the XML files (are XML compressed/obfuscated? It wasn't readable).
Can someone enlight me over?
Flash at your own risk.
Tested on CM12.1
Stock not tested yet
The audio graphs i've analyzed with and witouth the mod seems that AGC is on(maybe with a very moderated preset). Can someone try to record a video on a very loudly place?

Can someone post some pictures/videos for comparison vs stock?
RAW support for the camera would be amazing as well.
I believe it works from 4.4 KK to 5.0.2 and CM 12.1.
I'll post something to compare with later.
If someone help me to understand and manipulate DEX ARSC and those weird XML i would be very happy
i think it's not possible, but maybe add camera2 api is possible?
Please mention if this mod is for stock rom or it will work on any rom...
I noticed an improvement in the quality of camera friend
Hi all, can confirm this works on stock 5.0.2, no bootloops, audio quality REALLY impressive, as for AGC, I tried screaming into the mic a couple times and there was no audio distortion, I still need to check out the increased video bitrate, but it looks really sweet, thank you, keep up the awesome work, really looking forward to 1080p video working on this device

That's not possble for photos, but the video resolution could theoretically be increased from 720p (aprox. 0.9 Megapixels) to 1080p (2MP).
Is there a way to enable recording with 60 frames per second? I would also like to see some comparison pictures/videos if possible.

Hmmm i don't think so, not without messing with the .so files.
In low light conditions out device records at 15 FPS to increase sensor exposure to compensate the light. In sunny conditions it records at 30.
I've been trying to decompile the lastest moto camera but it seems i can't find some portion of the code. I'm still trying to understand how those stuff works and how Android manage and rely in things.
I'll reserch some more about decompiling/recompiling APK and .so files.

Obviously, it doesn't work. My guess is: Sensor DOES support and app detects it, but libs don't.
Here's a logcat while trying to record something. "Cannot start vídeo capture. Another app may be using the mic" is the error.

Could you please try to open the video with the Google Photos app:
On stock OOS 3.2.2, slowmotion videos are treated as high framerate videos
and you can manually set the postion for the slowmotion to start and end just like on the iPhone.
The other areas are played in regular speed. Unfortunately without audio...
Would be great to have both audio and the above method working!

Seems to be legit, checked it in After Effects and every frame is unique.
Has anyone tried Open Camera to record 60fps at 1080p? I tried this on an Honor 7 (as 60fps doesn't come as standard on that phone) but the results were no better than the standard camera app at 30fps. Wondered if the Sony unit on the OP3 would allow Open Camera to do a better job but can't find video examples of this anywhere.

Hi there, same exact problem here. I am connected to a B9 OLED TV and I also have a C7 (both doing the same), so it's not the TVs.
I have made lots of tests, and it seems like a frame-skipping issue (both in 8K and 4K that could be causing the issue playback) as other 8K videos from other sources are working (tried from RED camera). Here are my results if this can help you and Samsung (all test recorded to the internal memory of the S20 Ultra ) :
- Different decoder (Windows Store, VLC and MPC-HC) = Vertical Lines
- 8K with display at 120hz from my 2080ti+B9 = Vertical Lines
- 8K with display at 60hz from my 2080ti+B9 = Vertical Lines
- 8K with playback on my iMac 5k = No Vertical Lines (but frame-skipping - the GPU/CPU is strong enough to decode H265 8K, not the problem)
- 8K with HDR disabled in Windows 10 (RGB/4:4:4 8bit) = Vertical Lines
-4k at 30FPS with video stabilization with "Auto-HDR" = Choppy (even from the phone)
-4k at 30FPS without stabilization with "Auto-HDR" = choppy, but still here and there
-4k at 30FPS without stabilization without "Auto-HDR" = less choppy, but still here and there
-4k at 30FPS with video stabilization with "High Efficiency video" on", so BT.709 (8bit) = Near perfect
- I have tried other softwares on the phone to capture videos, the one that comes with the OSMO Mobile 3 = same problem
- With Filmic Pro, you can control the shutter speed, but no HDR and lots of noise in the videos (not efficient encoding).
Conclusion so far :
I can see, both in 4K and 8K, when HDR10+ (BT.2020) is on the videos are missing frames (so either choppy or giving us vertical lines and artifacts). Samsung has to release a fix.
Auto Focus is always doing something (focusing-refocusing).

I am not impress with the camera system on that phone so far. It might not be about the hardware, but the software that is not optimized, but who knows! The bottom line is that I bought this smartphone to get rid of my big mirror less when on a field trip to shoot videos in HDR10 so I can benefit (on my OLED's) and it's not even an option now. The only lens working "as it should" for me so far is the front one. All others on the back are problematic with wrong colours.
If Samsung can release an update soon, that will be great.
A bit more on Frame-Skipping
After more research, it seems that the problem is that the phone can't handle or is not set to "constant" 29.97 FPS in 4K or 23.98 FPS in 8K. If you open the details in the video file, it's either at 23.20FPS or something similar instead of of 23.98 like it supposed to be, so players are adding artifacts or choppiness video. The worst is when you record 4K with all the package (HDR10+ with image Stabilization and auto-"broken"-focusing) where instead of 30FPS as expected, it's between 27fps and 28 fps which is abnormal frame per seconds.
The temporary workaround is to disabled one of the two (HDR10+ or IMage Stabilization) and then 4K video will be at 29.97. As for 8K, the only workaround is to "reencode" to file making sure it's set to "constant" 23.98 fps.
Hope this help and will update later if I can find a way to get 8K recorded at proper speed. I am on the Snapdragon 865 by the way.
The best player I have found to reproduce the proper image (HDR10) and the profile of 709 in 8K is the MPV (you got to be full screen and ensure to make a config file and have in it a line hwdec=nvdec-copy . Not too sure why the copy makes thing works, but it does . VLC is giving me the wrong gamma and contrast, but this one is perfect so far.
