Hi,
I am newbie in this forum
I just bought Desire Z in Hongkong. It has been updated to 1.84.708.1 before I start join this forum.
I want to root it, but after searching many times I cannot find the links or references to root this stock rom version.
What I found is that in order to root, we have to downgrade the software (stockrom) first. However, the quides only provides procedures to downgrade from 1.72 to 1.34.
My questions:
-Can I root (without firstly downgrade it)?
-If I have to downgrade, can I use/apply the procedures applied for downgrading from 1.71 to 1.34 (while my stock rom is 1.84.708.1)
Please point me to the links or references so that I can look into it
Appologize, if my questions have already been asked by others.
thanks in advance
Cheers
I'm also in the same boat. Did you find out what the solution was?
Nope, no official ROM versions 1.72 or higher are rootable yet.
The guide to downgrade from 1.72 to 1.34 and root will work for you.
After root, if you want to get back to a more recent ROM version, you can flash the Virtuous custom ROM, which is based on 1.85.
Thank you!

i have one question about downgrade ...is it able to backup the offical 1.84 rom for go back to OEM for warranty ?
cause the downgrade will wipe the 1.84 rom already
or does your 1.34 able to check the OTA upgrade if i want OEM back ?
or any method to backup the 1.84 before downgrade ?

You should be able to flash the official shipped 1.84 ROM if ever needed for warranty purposes.
As far as I know, there is no way to make a nandroid/clockworkmod backup of the 1.84 ROM, since it would require root to do so.

As explained in the above post, currently there is no tools to back up the ROM without firstly rooting your device Unfortunately, you cannot root rom v.1.84
ROM Manager and Titanium back up require the phone to be rooted in order to do back up.
So, What I did before rooting, is downloading the new stock rom from this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
However, after rooted, you still can have OTA upgrade
So, now I have 2 shipped rom (i.e v.1.34 and v.1.84)
If I ever want to upgrade, I dont need OTA, I just flash it...
Cheers
thx for the help and the link help me alot
i just ask this for my friend cause he is worrying not able to going back to stock if need...
now just let him decide root or not....i dont want to take the risk if anything happen that cant return
ps : his phone is hk csl version ... not sure does the hk_cht version same as hk_csl version...and not sure does it effect warrenty

Did you use the goldcard method to downgrade?
coz i am stuck at step 11 of goldcard method. I am not able to copy the content of goldcard to removeable disk.
After i select the content in removable disk, "Paste write" option is not available
Tried it in XP and win 7..
Any help please..
If someone can post a guide on how to donwgrade succesfully from 1.84, that would help a lot of peoples including my self.
Question here ; i have another Desire Z witch he is root actually, so it is possible to clone the root one and copy it to the unroot desire z 1.84 ?
Help please! Need to ROOT HTC Desire HD with firmware 2.50.405.2. The downgrade guides are only for 2' 3.x but not 2.5.x. is there any way that I can downgrade my firmware version or root my phone? I so badly want to do it. Thanks.
Take a look at the Android Development section and you will find this guide and also this guide.
My advice would be to read through it thoroughly and only once you understand what you need to do should you go ahead and flash the ROM.

Thanks for that guide, it was my first time, and I successfully did it =D. But I want to change my font to the disney font. here is the link.
http://fachadick.wordpress.com/2010/10/18/walt-disney-script/
But i dont know how to flash the font onto my device or change the font. Are there any guides for htc desire hd?
I have root and S-OFF but missing su after 2.50.405.2 OTA upgrade, any who can help to get su back?
I don't think you have root already after the OTA Update.
You have to downgrade or reroot your Device. Then you can flash this Stock rooted ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059563
SU is available on the Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
@Audiavant - the latest OTA does remove the Root that you previously had as Command_HDX has said. You've gotta follow the downgrade guides in the links I posted above.
How can I browse my internal/local disk with out root?
I can see/browse, copy and edit all files on internal storage?
Hi there,
I want to update to lollipop, and i install insertcoin last ROM, but i have issues in wi-fi and baterry because i´m not S-OFF to prepare my device to this ROM.
What is the best way, downgrade to Android 4.4 ROM, put it S-off with some method or downgrade to original Android 4.4 and then update OTA.
What is the bst choice and if someone can help me with the methods?
Regards
You can check out the first post here,

I don't believe downgrading is an option if you're s-on. But you can flash the stock ruu for the last version you were on and ota. Or possibly flash a newer version ruu. (guessing about that... I've always been s-off, so haven't needed to use ruu's) But check in that thread.
And to s-off, Sunshine is your only option now.
Good luck!
If i buy the license to s-off, i only need to install the latest version of insercoin, or i need to update more things?
Regards
To s-off, you'll need stock, or a close to rom... Many use maximus. But not sure about newer versions... You might need an older version.
Then s-off with Sunshine and go Here...

Easy!
Can anyone provide some guidlines and tools perhaps ton How to convert HTC one m8 Marshmallow 6.12 Sense 7 to Google play edition OTA? If there is a thread/tutorial of someone sucessfully obtaining it then do link. sorry i'm a newbie yet i couldn't find anything relating to it.
I don't want to brick it using old 2014 tools software etc.
You won't find one complete guide for that, but all the pieces are here, and I can give you the general process:
1) Your phone will be wiped during this process. Backup anything you want to keep (off the phone) accordingly, before proceeding.
2) Unlock bootloader via HTCDev.com, then install custom recovery TWRP and root by flashing SuperSU in TWRP.
There is a step by step guide here. Only do Section 1 (Section 2 such as s-off method is obsolete). While the guide is old, Section 1 is still relevant; with the exception that you need to use an updated version of TWRP 3.0 found here: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
Also the command to flash TWRP (somewhat obviously) needs to contain that same updated TWRP version name/number.
You will also need to use SuperSu version that is updated (recommend 2.65 or later), but the link in the guide is okay.
3) S-off using sunshine app ($25): http://theroot.ninja/
4) Run the GPE RUU here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
Hey guys I am currently rooted s-on, on twrp and I want to go back to stock because I want to get the newest ruu on marshmallow so I can use viper ROM which only supports the new firm wares. Any help?
You don't need to return to stock to RUU.
Relock the bootloader, fastboot flash the stock MM firmware 6.20.531.5 from here (instructions how to flash at the bottom of the post). Then the 6.20.531.5 RUU.
