Anyone know of an app that would enable a high resolution display via HDMI? I'm thinking along the lines of the Motorola Atrix's webtop app. Whenever I use my Arc via HDMI on my TV It looks so very ugly and I would love something that just looks nicer on the large screen.
I second this, i have a 65 inch TV and could use better Res.

higher res for what? films? you'll need to encode a high res version for it to appear high res output..
Ideally everything that displays on the external screen. At the moment films and photos look fine but the navigation of the phone etc is terrible.

I felt the same, the phone display is exactly what is on the screen, so the icons are damn big and annoying. In web browsing though, I found some solution as I use Opera Mobile, reduce the zoom percentage to 100% or lower.
Any other ideas?
Try this, used it a while ago when it was first out, but it should be a bit refined now.

can you guys tell me where i can get some high resolution wallpaper for my g2 i been looking for some 480x800 for the g2 but they dont seem to look that good on the g2 seem like they lose the high resolution effect.
Download zedge from the market. I get all my wallpaper there.

Zedge works pretty well and has a decent selection. Most of the nice looking live wallpapers on the market don't lose their crispness when applied to the screen. Zedge does like to force close every once in a while but its no biggy.

The 960 x 800 size works perfectly on mine, without any loss of the edges of the image.

I use my desktop wallpapers, i get them from www.wallbase.net, just pick a high res one .
All of the sudden most images have horrible color transition (especially gradient images) and nothing is as sharp anymore. Tried factory reset but didn't fix it.
Anyone else have this happen? I just exchanged mine too and got a screen with no black blobs and minimal lines but now it's worse than my original phone.
What gives? Even HD video looks like crap now
Not rooted stock 2.3.5

After further testing everything appears fine in the gallery when I view an image, but as soon as I set wallpaper or watch video it's messed up looking..
Weird thing is it started after I updated widget locker.

I'm not sure what to tell you on the video, but as far as images go I initially had problems with images that were saved to my sd card. They looked terrible when I tried to set them as my wallpaper. I was able to go back to my laptop for some of the pictures and re-download them which fixed the problem.

Didn't make any difference. Even tried some of the walls that come with the phone, same problem.
Weird thing is when I view a wallpaper in the gallery,I can zoom in full screen size and it's flawless. As soon as I set it as a wallpaper it's slightly blurred with bad color transitions. YouTube videos that were formerly flawless look sub par. Wtf?

The wallpapers have nothing to do with the gpu so idk where you get off with that? You might need to do another exchange my sg2 displays wallpapers just fine. Maybe your youtube isn't on high quality most youtube videos look like crap on low quality. Try doing a factory reset. The only time the gpu should be in effect is when the 3d gallery is moving in its little animations. Are you sure your wallpapers are hpdi and high quality?

Well my question about the GPU was because the videos don't play crisp anymore. And yes that's on high quality, don't act like I'm a moron. All my wallpapers are extremely high quality images...and I do graphic design so please understand I'm telling you like it is. Maybe it's the screen going out I don't know, but I see more vertical and horizontal lines now than previously, images are choppier, lines are not smooth. If you would have read my posts you would see I stated that I did a FDR and it did not solve it.
I really think the widget locker update did something, it was right after that and the dev has acknowledged the issue, he was able to reproduce and is working on a fix.

I am really confuse about something and I can not see the solution.
I just bought a new note 3 10.1 2014 edition and I don't understand why:
1. My browser display resolution detected is 1280x800 shouldn't it be something like 2500...?
And
2. I select hd videos on YouTube but only hq quality playback is available
Total mystery for me... can anyone please help?
Thank you so much

What site are you getting this resolution from? Chrome is not operating in 2560x1600 resolution because tabs would be so tiny you could barely select them. It is pixel doubling everything and then rendering everything with a higher resolution, which is why fonts look sharper but the web pages look generally the same as a 1280x800 device.

My Nexus 10 say the same essentially (minus 48 pixels for the onscreen buttons). The browser renders 1280x800 and pixel doubles it up to 2560x1600 so that fonts look sharper. Again, there is no way you could comfortably read a true 2560x1600 rendered page on this small of a screen.
If it really bothers you, download a DPI changer and change it to a much lower number, which should increase the reported size.
Any rez change apps that don't require root??
Slingplayer, Xfinity, MX player etc...aside from Google Play movies, I have not found a video app that uses the full 6" screen. Slingplayer and Xfinity leave what looks to me to be over 1/4". Is this universal or an issue with my phone? Is there a setting somewhere I haven't found to force full screen for video?
I am completely stock 8.1 at the moment...I don't think I should have to do something via adb like forcing immersive mode for something like being able to use my whole screen to watch video???
thanks for any and all input
I don't use Sling Player and no longer have Comcast cable but I can use the full screen with MX Player. However that isn't the default. The Pixel 2 XL has an 18:9 (2:1) screen. No video formats I have even seen use that aspect ratio. That means any video you watch that takes up the entire screen must be cropped.
I still don't understand the popularity of the taller aspect ratio.
Soon more apps will implement the pinch to zoom feature like YouTube has.

Actually an anamorphic movie should make good use of the screen. I played a Netflix movie (I think it was hateful 8) and it filled the entire width of the screen, with much smaller black bars on the top and bottom like you'd have with a16:9 screen
Hulu doesn't seem to take advantage of this, tried Future man which is filmed in an odd aspect ratio and it has black matte all around

It is pathetic, great phone but media streaming is certainly hampered compared to the note 8

I tried changing aspect ratios but it doesnt help/make the picture bigger
I saw a thread that someone recommended to use samsung internet video player but I am unable to play netflix
Any suggestions how to get the best out of content for the fold 4? I know you can pinch and zoom but it cuts out so much that might as well not watch as you miss so many details
Maybe somehow hack the custom res?
Thanks

unfortunatly no. only way is zooming in which will eat half of the video. the aspect ration is a hige draw back for consuming media on fold series

I hoped someone figured out a way to make it better besides cutting half the video to fill lol
And now you know how we felt in the early 2k's when 16:9 became a thing and we still had our 4:3 CRT's. Letterbox is annoying.

yes, any workaround?
Not a lot you can do, making something that's 16:9 sit nicely on a 4:3 display has never been pretty, but if you enable flex panel mode on Netflix, and only use the top half of the display it fills that.
Other than that just ignore the black unused areas, still getting a decent size playback area after all, and oled, so black uses no energy...
Run Netflix in pop-up mode, make it fill the width of your screen and adjust the height to fit the image, then use the rest of your screen for another app
You really can't without making things worse IMHO.
It's like owning a 4:3 TV and using a pan/scan simulator so the screen is filled.
You just cut off too much!
You get used to the bars, I still prefer this format for everything else!

thanks a lot
To me, this could be simple to solve if the zoom/pinch have 2 or more levels because the single zoom level avalizable is just too much and results in a heavily cropped imagem, but, with intermediate zoom levels, one can control how much screen space is used to content and who much image is cropped out...
I've been watching all of my locally stored media files on an app called SVplayer. It has an option called "black bars outer lighting". This will fill in the black bars of your display, if the video does not match the aspect ratio of your device . This effect is most commonly used on social media and vertically shot videos that are shown on news broadcasts. I then zoom into the video about 25 to 30%. which makes the top and bottom lighting bars less apparent. In my opinion, this is the best compromise and is honestly the only reason why I ended up buying a Galaxy Fold 4. I couldn't enjoy videos with such prominent black bars on everything I watch.
