I've had 3 or 4 different evo's and it's been almost impossible to receive decent battery life on almost any rom. It started with CM6 and I switched even though I loved it and went to Baked Snack or some other rom that stated battery life, but it just always ends up dropping on me no matter what. I thought my expectations were too high, I just recently got my last replacement and it's now 3-4 days old. I heard how CM7 and Miui's latest had excellent battery life so I couldn't wait to test them. I first tried CM7 and as long as it's on stand by or not being used the battery was pretty decent I guess. That's with Green Power free running btw. when I turn the phone on to start using it, the percentages just drop. Tried Miui after hearing how good the new battery life is and almost the same thing.
So, that led me to believe it was due to some program, but for the most part I keep these stock. One of the first things I setup are a Gmail account, FB account setup... then of course my apps are added automatically hardly any widgets ever run. If anything it's Buzzbox, I've got beautiful widget's clock now. I use Vlingo, not sure if it's a hog. When I check the battery stats, there's nothing crazy or out of the ordinary. Anyways... there's got to be something wrong, I'm guessing. I've got a regular battery and an extended battery and they both do terrible. I'm going to install a rom from scractch with nothing loaded at all and test the battery. I hate to do that, because testing will take awhile especially with adding one program/widget at a time to monitor the percentages lost.
Here's a list of apps I normally have on my evo and run occassionally:
Vlingo
Green Power Free
Juice Defender (before green power and GB)
handcent
buzzbox
facebook
Swype
Google Services
Voicemail
Are any of these battery abusers without me knowing it?
I normally keep wifi on and connect to it over the 3g data, although I believe Green Power said it cant control the data on the GB roms as of now.
Today, I started with 98% with my extended battery, CM7 and now at 1:00PM I'm at 70% Minimal usage.
Sorry for the long post.
Bluetooth is off most time and Wifi like I mentioned usually is on, because I heard it uses less power than mobile.
sorry for the long post.
Just looking for some assistance.
Restore it to stock.
Calibrate your battery.
Use it for a few days without installing all your apps. If the battery still sucks, then you are probably going places that do not have signal and the phone is searching a lot. Check About - Battery for time without signal.
get a seidio 3500 mah battery and you will enjoy your phone with every little feature turned up to the max

It is a Seidio
Of course it's not as bad as the original, but watching the batter go down 10% while I'm using it is very disheartening. Awhile back, I was able to get decent battery life, but I can't remember what rom, it might have been Baked Snack like 1.6 lol, guessing anyway.

Nuggyunlimited looks like he is onto something. I do not know if he has 4G or not?
I have had my best luck with mikFroyo.
What is going on with google maps? I have the same problem wiht MikFroyo
I am one of the heaviest users around, I stream pandora for about 8 hours , listen to music app about 2 to 3, check facebook and certain websites constantly, my two email acounts check every five minutes, my brightness is at 100 percent, my gps and location services are on, I'm overclocked...using 4.3 mikfroyo with sbc number 7...at the moment I'm using miui with sbc 7 for aosp roms, depends what you do, but either way no matter what kernal or rom you use I'll tell you, this battery will last you all day, this battery changed my evo experience...
edit: I don't use setcpu for profiles, just for overclocking, i dont use juice defender, the useless task killer or anything
edit 2: Conductive i had the same problem update to 4.4 or 4.3

so let me get this straight, average use is 8 hours of pandora, 8 hours of sleep, and that leaves 8 hours for facebook and etc, so lets say 4 hours total for a guesstimate, leaving 4 hours of non activity of the phone being off. 20/24 hours is "average use". I mean this is not a competition of who uses theyre phone more, all im saying is that with this battery you can do pretty much whatever you want without caring with ANY rom or ANY kernal you want.

No I use my bluetooth headphones for music from around 8am-6pm entire time I leave the house to the time I get home. Both facebook accounts every 15 minutes same with both.twitter accounts on xda off and on all day I.text a lot and use g talk a lot with a few calls I wasnt posting it as a battle I was actually just saying we get about the same times but I use the phone a little more and I was agreeing with you that the battery works wonders

i just got my evo after a hero.
the battery life is exactly what i expected. ive got a stock sense, rooted with clockwork.
i dont use widgets, no auto syncs. i have complete control over my device and it never leaves my hand. that being typed, i can get about 13 hours of up time.
yes, id like the battery to last longer but im not willing to have a fatty evo for the 3500mAh battery. I purchased a second stock battery, official HTC, so if Im gonna have a long day, ill have a battery with me.

Ok, yesterday I loaded Miui with nothing additional except changing the LCD density to 200, green power (which is useless since wifi doesn't work with this kernel) and right now I'm at 14h, 49m since unplugged with 17% left (normal battery). That's with minimal to average use. I notice when I'm using it, I can watch the percentages just drop, so I guess it's functioning normally and it's due to just my usage and programs, I'm probably expecting too much from my battery, once again I guess. I'm going to try your rom next with my extended battery.
I know what stock battery users go through, and with heavy use they don’t last too long, but I’m now in a different, horrible place entirely and I have the 3500 mAh battery!
I know that something is clearly wrong with my Evo but no one seems to know what it is. As I said I’m also using a 3500 mAh battery, but not to any advantage. In fact I get considerably less usage with this now then I used to get with the stock 1500mAh battery, regardless of the ROM or kernel.
Current specs:
HTC EVO 4G, Hardware 0003
16GB Wintec Class10 MicroSD
SEIDIO 3500mAH Battery/Camera Protector
Calkulin's EViO 2 v1.7.7 (have run several different Sense and CM ROMs)
HTC kernel #15v7 (doesn’t matter, have tried stock and every TM, regular and SBC)
Quadrant ≈ 1365
Linpack ≈ 33.05 MFLOP
and…(drum-roll please)
Battery Life: 70% after 6 hours, literally next to no usage.
Before middle of last November, if I charged the phone fully (without the benefits of SBC), and then just unplugged it on a Saturday night and let it sit unused for like 19-hours, the charge would be around 89%, +/- 1%, with the stock battery. In that same scenario now the 3500 mAh battery would have shut the phone down long before 19-hours rolled around.
Yesterday, using the 3500 mAh extended battery, no phone calls, Bluetooth on for about 20-miutes this morning for the drive to work and was turned off upon my arrival, and I’ve sent and received 4-5 messages on GTalk. That’s it.
The current status:
Charge: 70%
5h 52min unplugged
Up time: 6:15
Awake time: 1:20
Battery Usage screen:
Cell Standby: 42%
Phone Idle: 43%
Android System: 8%
Bluetooth: 4%
Display: 3%
Phone runs great; everything works great, no other issues. It once fell about 10”-12” onto plush carpet (kitten attack). It was in the Sprint case with the stock battery then, and has not been dropped otherwise. If anything, I am ridiculously careful with it.
Something happened the middle of last November like a switch was flipped, and battery life has been horrible ever since. Since we got our Evos back in the very beginning of June, 2010, I don’t think that returning it to the Sprint Store was an option then or now.
No one seems to have seen anything like this or have any clue what the issue might be, but it was suggested that I RRU it back to original, update it to current and then test the battery usage. Then, basically just live with it and see if it helped. After that, I’ll re-root and get on with life, whether battery life is better or not.
Any constructive thoughts are welcome. Thank you for your time.
Note: my apologies is this constitues a thread hijacking; not my intention, just saw title of the thread and it sounds like my life.

Thank you for the input. I thought about that so I tried the 3500 mAh in my wife's stock Evo and it runs forever. I'm so envious! I've swapped her stock battery and mine and they both run the same in either phone.
In mine, the stock battery usage is proportional, too. Fully charged and unplugged at 6:00 AM and with absolutely zero usage, sleeping screen off the entire time, by around 2:00 PM the stock battery was at 41%. That was also with very minimal synching (I've tweaked those settings nicely), no bluetooth, etc. I believe that the awake time was like 36mins. Sick, but unfortunately not in a good way.
Since it can't hurt, I think that I may do the RUU thing this weekend and then re-root afterwards. It may not help, but its literally the only thing that I can think of that I haven't tried.
Again, thanks for your thoughts. Have a great day!

Sorry, I've bypassed your rom for so long, but I've got it loaded now. Looking forward to trying it out. I can't lie I love and miss CM7 and Miui, but if my battery seems to last longer with a sense rom, then I'll be switching. So far it is very snappy and quick. Do you recommend I stick with the stock kernel or switch to something else? Do you use any setcpu, juice defender, green power or anything?
Do you have theme's as well?
Updating a titanium backup for my apps now.
I'll post back how it goes. I would say I had the same problem as the user above, but this has happened on mutliple phones and roms.
I know with a new phone you need to cycle the battery quite a few times. Someone told me roms were similar, even though I never understood why. Would you say that's true? In order to give the rom time to adjust to the battery and settings you need to give it 3-5 days?
So!
Today I tried to make it through a day with the stock battery over my normal daily driver battery, my seidio 3500 battery.
Here's what I got.
I am a pretty heavy user, using music for a couple hours a day, browsing the internet and xda forum app a couple hours a day, youtube, and alot of other miscellaneous games and other apps.
After school (in which I don't have the best service, during one class I even have to put my phone into airplane mode due to lack of service in one building) I had around 25% left. Normally with my 3500 I'm around 60-70 depending on if classes are boring or not. Normally in chem, c++ and differential equations i'm on my phone (so roughly 5 hours of use) and then I have a break where I use the phone as well.
It's now midnight and for me my phone is at like 5% and although I made it through the day, had I not been plugged in for flashing the night build #40 for CM7 I'd be dead easily.
So what's the point of this thread?
Just to sort of give my experiences with the stock battery after using the giant beast for around 5 months.
Any questions about the battery I'll try and answer!
was running cm7 39 today and also using the incredikernal with smartass on.
I'm a pretty heavy user as well. I have 2 stock 1300s and a Seidio slim 1750. I had originally considered a 3500 but I couldn't bring myself to fatten up my phone. I work 12 hour shifts and I usually burn through one stock battery between 4 and 6 hours into a shift, then switch to the Seidio, which usually carries me til I go to bed (around 8 or 9 hours). Or if its a late night, I can fall back on the other stock battery once the 1750 gives up the ghost. I know it seems like a lot of batteries to carry around but, I have to say, I feel like its worth it, considering that my phone is comfortably pocketable. I usually keep the spares in my lunch bag or my truck til needed.

definitely i can see most peoples reason to not get the 3500.
I got it cause I don't really have a problem with having a bigger phone, and I kinda like the way it feels with the larger battery cause i have really big hands and so the stock back + battery just feels to small in my hand =(
I just am glad that the incredible has alot of battery options =)
I use an 1800 battery and when that dies i switch over to my stock. Its not too bad carrying an extra battery and i rarely use it the 1800 usually gets me through the day.
I can definitely see your point regarding the feel of the thicker phone in your hand. I had never thought of it in that aspect. I have large hands as well. If I find myself in the market for a new battery in the near future, I may try a 3500 out. On a side note, and not trying to hijack your thread but, I noticed you're running CM7 as well (I just flashed it yesterday). I've had a few fc issues but over all, I'm loving it so far. And I do think it may have had a positive effect on my battery life, over CM6. I've been running my Seidio battery for about 8 hours now and I'm only down to 50%! And it's definitely on its way toward MIUI in terms of built in features.

3000mAh is scam.......should be good for about 2400 max
Had one for about 2 months now. I get about 24 hours of very heavy usage. Internet, numerous phone calls, texts, slingbox over 3G, and using power amp for hours on end will usually have me recharging after 24 hours. I could probably use it longer, but I hate to run my battery all the way down.

I have been considering an extended battery myself, but it seems all the higher quality brands (Japanese cells) are over $50. Not sure if I can justify such an expense over just having another regular battery to swap on the go.
If anyone finds a good deal on the brand name one, drop us a link.

Most extended batteries are like that.
Fortunately, most people who buy extended batteries don't care how it looks, don't buy custom cases to begin with, and don't care about thickness.
I need more battery life. Running Bionix 1.3 right now, and I'm constantly using my phone from about 6AM to 10PM every day with no time to charge it in between, and it's typically near the 5% mark by the end of the day, which I can't risk for too much longer.
Unless you are gaming just get an extra 1650 mah battery it is much more convenient. i had one but the weight and bulkiness was not worth to me. They do give a decent amount of use though.....

Yeaaah, I use mine a lot and it tends to die by 10 now, which means I"m getting about 16 hours of battery life. By all accounts, that's a good number, but it's just flat out not enough.
accessory geeks 3000mah
ag 3000mah gives me about 80% left after a 2 1/2 hours phone call which is pretty darn good, wich the phone call was with the screen off the whole time.
Im sure there have been a lot of these threads, but i dont have time to search and read hundreds of pages, I work nights, and am getting ready to go in soon for a 24hour shift, I dont have a chance to charge my phone usually during the shift.

I appreciate anyone that can help, i know usually posting threads like this, people get flamed, but i am in a bind, and would appreciate the help.
I assure you this is a first and last time post from me.
You would probably do best to buy one if those extended batteries. I would get a good one not a knock off. Different ROMs and kernels are only going to get you so far. They may add a couple hours but not 12.

YOU do not need to spend $70, i only spent 29.99 on mine. Buy it on ebay either under the seidio name or platinum series name. (Platinum series is seidio but its the name it sells under for best buy.) I bought a platinum series brand new 3500 mah battery for $29.99 on ebay and it lasts me for 35 to 45 hours easy, depending on use and i'm a heavy user . I also bought the seidio innocase extended case for $20 And it offers alot of protection and not really alot more bulk.
So seriously buy off ebay. I only spent about $50 and got the case and battery. If u need any tips on how to buy or what things to look for in a seller let me know .
i am going over 50 hours on miui rom, hw003 and bcnice v8 sbc kernel, if i turn off data when i don't need it synching and just manually synch when i need to , i get even more than that.
use setcpu, with a very agressive cpu scaling profile. Also, turn off 3g when not needed, that will save you a LOT of battery.

You should try cm7 they have done alot of updating 4g is about ready to plus battery life rocks I'm a graveyard user 4 to 6 hours str8 using net YouTube robo defense and Facebook
I too work long hours, a lot of things can extend the life of your phone.
Turning off Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth if you don't use them. I use CM7 with the stock kernel. Currently I'm on Nightly number 14. The simple truth is that if you use your phone constantly you won't get good battery life.
I have the Seido 3500mAh extended battery. My phone lasts anywhere from a day to three or four.
Easy!
Easy cheap fix: Just turn off the Internet. That will give you days of phone usage. Also turn off 4G/Wifi/blue tooth as suggested too that. That will leave your phone in the state that onlly voice calls and texts can be done.
When I want to get on the Internet, send pictures, update facebook, I turn on the Internet and immediately do a sync then turn the Internet back off. You can even add a widget to do that for you, but my widget doesn't always work so I have a shortcut widget to setup.
If you do this, you should be able to go for days and days unless you are playing games or listening to music, etc.
Also you might try to turn down the screen light level to the lowest possible setting.
Good luck!
I think this havent been discuss.. my question is: what do you guys do to keep your battery thru the whole day? I have seen people said that they keep their phone alive for at least a 1.5 or 2 days????

No problem for the link. There are many ways to help save battery. I for one turn off GPS, Bluetooth, and mobile data when I'm not using them. I use AOSP Roms mostly because they give me better battery life, I use Incredikernel because it regulates how my battery works more efficiently, and I also have an extended battery. Wiping your battery stats every once in a while can help you prolong your battery life as well.

optimized sense with the stock kernel will warrant some seriously nice battery life. thats how I maintain mine.
Depends on what I do, through a normal day (texting, few short calls, 30 minutes of music streaming, less than 5 minutes of GPS) it'll last ~1.5-2 days with CM7 nightlies and chad's incredikernel - underclocked 128MIN - ~800max
But if I use GPS all day, which I sometimes do- it'll drop 50% after 4-5 hours of use (this means screen-on, GPS running, also uses 3G data for maps) and I'll usually need to plug it in before the day ends.
I have a 1900mAh battery that fits in the stock case, so this isn't what I get on the stock 1300mAh battery.
If you can't last it through the day it usually means that you are a very heavy user (you like browsing the web all the time, streaming music, texting, watching videos) OR you have a setup that likes to eat your battery.
I need two of my 3 batteries to make it through one day. I use juice defender, and when I stream pandora at work I turn it off cause it interferes. I always have a charger handy too

This made me me lol!
I actually didn't know that the 2150 was smaller than the 3500. That thing is a beast, my friend uses one and his phone is at least twice as thick as mine.
If you are rooted, you can update the radio, I've noticed much better performance out of the updates cause they seem to manage gps and wireless better. The radio update turn off wireless if you are out of range and turn off gps if no app is using it.

yeah but you have to take into account how slim the stock incredible is. Without any case and with only the stock battery it's too thin (for me at least). Hard to hold onto the sides and I accidentally press the volume buttons often. I've also dropped it 3 times with that setup.
With a case it's great and with the 2150 it was great, loved both setups but I'm liking the new style now with the 1900 and case so that's where I'm sticking at.
Does wiping the battery stats help the battery life? Or is it just so the phone better understands how much battery is left?
Stock battery has always worked best for me.. I also have the seido 1750 mah as well as some chinese versions of 1500 mah.. I use them as backups.. I'm currently using miui as my rom and the battery life is great... I usually get about 24hrs before i'm down to 20%. No way I would make the whole day on previous roms..
I take cues from battery university. Basically, don't let the battery go below 20% shallow charge /discharge

The kernel your running makes a huge difference in battery life. Been using Ziggy's BFS for quite some time now with the Seido 1750. Gets me though the whole day
