Hi all, i have tried to find similar thread with "search" before opening this one, but this function is not working right now to me.
The problem: usually my Artemis integrated GPS works very very well, for weeks (cold fix in not more than 2', also without downlaod of efemeridi, and hot fix very very fast, with 7-10 satellites hooked). But in some days/weeks/periods the gps doesn't work well. In particular the cold fix (first fix) needs some minutes (5'-10'), and once the fix happened, the signal of each satellite hooked is really poor, or the number of satellites hooked is low and instable; for eg the gps hook not more than 3-4 satellites, and loose and find the signal continuously. And also other fixes during the day ar slow if made just after few hours from first one.
The strange thing, as said before, is that usually the gps works very very well, for weeks. But expecially during the winter it happens that it works bad for days/weeks. And without any operation after some days/weeks it turn working very well again.
The issue don't seems to be linked with bad weather days. Can it be related with seasons and relative different position of satellites in the sky?
Untill now i never found other guys with a similar problem on their Artemis device. So now i ask here for support.
Which could be the problem? And which is the solution?
Thanks in advance for support!!
PS i use WM5 original. The issue happened since first year of life untill now (i just did an hard reset). And the issue happened both with TT6 and TT7 (just installed).
Following on from THIS thread, I thought it would be worthwhile to gather results to see the extent of the problem and to see if there's any pattern with regards manafacture date/place etc.
The Issue
GPS position is extremely erratic and despite showing good precision of 4-5 metres, the position moves around by up to 100s of metres, making it near useless for most applications.
Resolutions Attempted
Clear AGPS data doesn't make a difference to everyone
Use Airplane mode or Turn off Google location service. - Seems to reduce the problem but does not completely solve it.
The Survey
Install from the Play Store - GPS Status & Toolbox and My Tracks
Open Location in the phone settings - Ensure all location options are enabled
Turn On Airplane Mode
In GPS Status & Toolbox - Menu>Tools>Manage A-GPS state>Reset
Open My Tracks, wait a couple of minutes to obtain a good fix, Menu>Record Track
There are 3 views in My Track; Map, Time & Elevation. You can select these by tapping the screen and selecting the left or right arrows.
Change to time view and after 15 minutes, Menu>Stop recording & save track
Turn off Airplane mode
Repeat steps 5 to 7

Grey Model - Serial HT248 - Software is 1.29.401.11 - Airplane Mode On (Serial is from memory, will check this-evening)
Absolutely superb results with no movement whatsoever
Note: I opened the track after recording and turning off Airplane mode so I could see the map in the background.
Grey Model - Serial HT248 - Software is 1.29.401.11 - Airplane Mode Off (Serial is from memory, will check this-evening)
Not quite as good as with Airplane On but still very good and more than acceptable. In fact tthe only movement was in the 1st minute of recording so I may have just started a little too soon.
Grey Model - Serial SH24K - Software is 1.29.401.11 - Airplane Mode On (Serial is from memory, will check this-evening)
Definitely worse than the previous phone but just about useable for coarse navigation, although the elevation seems to come off much worse.
Grey Model - Serial SH24K - Software is 1.29.401.11 - Airplane Mode Off (Serial is from memory, will check this-evening)
The pictures speak for themselves, Absolutely horrendous and completely unusable. This phone is going back for an exchange.
Update: I've spoken with Phones4U (seller of faulty device) and they've agreed to exchange it. I'll post results for that one when it arrives in the next couple of days.
Hi guys,
Im having the same erratic behaviour? Is this hardware related or software related? Im wondering is this due to absence of signal filtering? So its plotting raw data directly
Edit:
Nope, its hardware related and i don't think signal filtering is an issue.
Hi, this is my test. I think the GPS is working properly. What would you say about?
serial 26 China
I agree. I think HTC One X has an unstable GPS .
I am not sure if it is hardware or software (i.e. OS)
I am using ATT HTC One X with updated firmware.
And this is speaking from real world usage. Which is after all what is important to us.
I used CoPilot and Google maps . Both experienced very unstable GPS signals i.e. every 30 mins there will be a drop. I had this tested twice on QEW high way, i.e. from Toronto - Niagara Falls. So it was clear sky
I had back-forth trips for 5 times on QEW. 2 out of which I used HTC-one x . the other 3 trips I used Galaxy Nexus.
For the trips using HOX, the GPS signal dropped quite often, every 30 mins or so and it takes long time to relock position, if anything at all.
While using GNex, there is no drop of GPS signal for the same route.
Any folks here proved it to be an OS issue or Hardware?
Thanks for any light on this.
Navigon works perfect for me, it always brings me to my destination.
No problem with GPS I ques, it brings me to the door.
Probably a hardware fault with your machine, return it for warrantee.
No need to open another 'yes no yes no yes no yes no' thread, only HTC can help you with the hardware fault, not XDA. :cyclops:
Some will agree with you while others don't, so simple !!!
Hello, here attached are my stats with Airplane Mode Off, Serial - SH27J and Software - 2.17.401.2, white model. What do you think, is everything ok?
Mine is pants ... Utterly disgusted with HTC I've held off til September to give HTC a chance to resolve it, bought phone ... GPS all over the place AND no bl00dy Bluetooth voice dialing !
On top of that ... What's the point of taking it back for exchange : they nearly all seem to be like it : we got 2 me and the wife and the gps is the same, I can't tell her, she'll go ape, she's just spent 2 weeks getting it how she likes it
Miffed , very miffed

Very interesting Gabrielvl ... worth knowing if the fault comes back after the warranty runs out:good:
Hallo,
I'm on a Vodafone brandet hox. I had the same GPS-fault. I updated my phone to buildnumber 2.17.161.4 yesterday. I performed a factory-reset before i started the update and after the update and now the GPS works fine. No signallost or positionhopping. It seams the bug is fixed and it is a softwareproblem not a hardwareproblem.

Thanks, I have succesfully fixed my Wifi already using this method so if this also fixes my GPS I will be a happy man!
Will try and let you know.
I restarted to jogging and then using the SPORT TRACKER app to record my progress
sometimes use the nokia 5800, motorola defy and now my wonder (before I was afraid of breaking it) ....
The Nokia 5800 is quite a bit to fix to satellites, but once fix is quite accurate
the motorola defy is a bit slow to fix, but then it is very accurate and uses little battery
wonder with the stock rom XXML8 is a bit slow to fix and inaccurate ....
monday for example it taked 3 minutes to fix satellites and at start recording revealed a maximum speed of 32kmh and the registration stopped by itself 1 km before I stoped it.... and during the jogging I heard the sound of power on BT, in fact it was on .... and it happened 2 more times during the run .... thing does not happen with defy ....
i change the file gps.conf and today i started my jogging with defy and wonder, i powered on both two on the same time, and start the SportTracker app, wonder fixed satellites 500m after defy, but also other data was different like max speed (faster in wonder), avg speed (slowless in wonder) and energy (i valued the error of 500m)
i remember that my wonder just bought was very fast to fix satellites...
no one can help me?
I had/have similar problems. I tried to delete A-GPS Data and fix satellites with GPS Status+Toolbar. i think it helps.
You have rootet your phone? You could disable all user-Apps with Titanium Backup or you could make a Nandroid-Backup and set your phone to factory settings. Then you can see wether some apps are the problem or its the SGW.
Put stock rom, and frozen some app with titanium.
This morning I did the fix with AGPS in a few seconds, then take off the data connection and delivery.
Registration distorted in 3 points ....
What is the fault of the sensor support? You activate them?
Yesterday with Odin i installed the Italian original fw I8150XXLA2_I8150ITVKK1_I8150XXKL3, root, cwm and I only installed Endomondo Titanium BK and MyTracks
Well the fix for satellites wasin less than a minute without AGPS, and the recording is very faithful to the road ....
I tried 3 times, in different places, turning off the device and moving to the few miles and then back on so that the engagement was more difficult, try to walk and drive
Now I would understand if it is a problem of new fw (xxlm8) or rom based on it or some app that somehow influences both the fix that on the recordings
in the last weeks I've been using the RUNTASTIC app to record my workouts, i use the voice feedback and I noticed that my device occasionally loses the GPS signal for 1-2 seconds
that happened on a path to the sea and close to my house, never in the same plot points that do solitmente on 10km happens 2-3 times
Hello,
I'd like to use my SW3 to go for a run (without my phone) then be able to see my time, and look at a map of the route I have ran (using the phone's built in GPS).
This is proving more difficult that I thought it would be.
Google Fit is doing weird things. It does track my route, but it's not very accurate. The map shows points along the route joined up by straight lines so it misses out chunks of the route.
The time is initially accurate, but if I load the app up about half an hour later it randomly adds half an hour on to my run.
Strava only seems to work when I'm near the phone.
Anyone else able to do this? Can anyone recommend a good running app that works with the SW3 that gives accurate times and a decent map of the route?
Thanks in advance!

GhostRacer is what I use. It syncs with RunKeeper, and Strava.
Well. I've been using Ghostracer for a while and it's brilliant - at the end of the run it uploads to Strava and then you can see your run metrics and map - I've just finished my first run with the new MM update and the watch worked perfectly, my run was recorded with fantastic GPS accuracy (it even shows where I had to cross the road and back due to roadworks) as well as streaming music via bluetooth! - very happy with this solution.
Thanks for this. I've downloaded ghostracer and will try it out tomorrow. I've also been reading about the issue where GPS doesn't work if you get a bit sweaty. Apparently the solution is to wear the watch over a sweatband! I'll try ghostracer first and if the GPS is still dropping I'll try the sweatband.
Was thinking of upgrading to a Fitbit Surge when I got the money as it has GPS + HR but have just noticed it doesn't play music without a phone. Do either of you know of a device that does the following all independently of a phone;
1. GPS
2. HR
3. bluetooth music player
4. waterproof (or at least water resistant)
5. sleep tracker
6. Watch (ideally with 'always on' LCD type display option)
maybe I'm just being greedy now...
Thanks again!

I read about the need for a sweatband too, but bought this instead: http://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-Mil...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00.
I've worn it during lots of running, including a half marathon, and have not had any trouble related to sweat.

Thanks for this - think i found the UK version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OBZ6I...TF8&colid=12B0B3JX0K1YK&coliid=I13Z14BVM9XIOI
£20 seems expensive though, can help wondering if a bit of masking tape would do the same job! Might try that first.

I use the SW3 with Bluetooth headphones AND a Bluetooth HR monitor when I'm running and cycling - - I use a MIO Fuse for the heart rate - It was £70 on Amazon last July and has been faultless - I'd check it out to see if it does what you want! - I am also using just the Skinomi screen protector and so far so good. I haven't had any problems with the sweat/GPS drop-out that has been reported!
Strava does work independently from your phone with SW3. There's a beta trial at the moment which I think is open to all, you just need to register on the Strava Support Forum (there's a thread dedicated to it) and they give you access. It may even have been in an update - in your Strava settings on your phone if there is a "wear" option that let's you tick the box "use device GPS" then you can do it. It works seamlessly - I ran the Paris marathon at the weekend with bluetooth streaming of music to my headphones and strava running on my watch and my batttery lasted!
Ghostracer worked for me before the Strava beta, I only went back to Strava as Ghostracer updated and stopped working a few weeks ago.
Sorry I can't post any links but I'm at work. The thread on the Strava support forum is called "Android Wear standalone GPS Tracking" and the second post down is where you can sign up to the beta.
Good luck! Chris

You should jump on the google+ group for ghostracer to sort out your issue. The dev is very active and responsive. https://plus.google.com/communities/108600094791246159447
I have the beta for strava, too, and it doesn't do 5% of what gr does.

Cheers. I had GR and Strava installed on both phone and SW3 but Strava has just mysteriously disappeared form the watch. GR now appears on the watch twice. Weird.
Will try GR at Parkrun tomorrow. Hopefully it will just work!
Thanks!
Thanks - will try GR again, I did post on the G+ thread but didn't seem to see any answers. If it's sorted I'll jump back on it!:good:
Ghost Runner works an absolute treat. Massive improvement on GPS accuracy. Thanks for the tips folks!

Thanks, it was a smart suggestion
Hello,
Since Android 6, my smartwatch 3 needs a very long time to get a GPS position.
I use it only for running, with ghostracer or runkeeper.
Time to get the position was between 30sec and 1min before android 6 update.
It is now between 20 minutes and 30 minutes. The behaviour is the same with ghostracer and runkeeper (or wear GPS)
I also have an issue with Google Maps where the map stays gray as if there was no internet access. But I am not sure it is related.
I already tried a factory reset of the watch without success.
Do you see any other way to correct it ? I did not find a way to downgrade the watch.
Thanks.
Experiencing the same thing... I picked up a Moto360 Gen 2 for cheap, I'm infinitely happier with it as a watch. I think I am going to unload my Sony, and pick up a Tomtom tracker for running. $100 or so, direct swap for me, and infinitely more appropriate as a tracker. Half the time I go running, my SW3 fails to pick up a signal the entire run. Or it picks it up and loses it at some point during my run. It's basically useless for tracking at this point. I've owned a lot of devices, it's by far and away the worst GPS reliability I've ever seen.
Im getting about 20 second lock time. dont' have this problem. It could be your unit.
hardreset
Hi,
i did recently a HardReset and the GPS-Fix is much quicker than before..... maybe this helps you
Hi there - try before running pair it with smartphone with GPS on and then let it catch fix - when you will go out with only watch without phone - it should catch fix much faster. I know it does not fix problem, but it will help you for now
Still no solutions? I'd buy one...
Guys I have the same problem. How fix it?
Edit: as You write I did a foctory reset and nie GPS on my watch is working.
