i just got my dash and it is actin strangely. it keeps goin between phone & flight mode and it sometimes turns off the phone function or says...''sim failure, sim card may be invalid or missing''. please help as i am getting irritable without my fone.
Maybe the SIM card has somehow become wet or unseated. Remove it, wipe it down with a soft cloth, and reinsert it. The problems may go away.
Take a pencil eraser and rub the SIM card contacts on the phone and SIM card itself.
thanks alot guys...
big thanks for the eraser tip. it still does it occasionally but i can use my phone again... thanks
ohhh booooyyyy....
it's at it again but the eraser thing wont even work so i'm back to square one.... and i tried to use the eraser on the sim contacts on the phone but i can't reach them to do it as they are behind this metal strip which i guess holds the card to the contacts. i did notice that the same metal strip is also soldered to the board, could there be another use? i was wondering if it was able to tell that the card was there via this bracket as well as by the pins on the sim port, if so maybe it was loose or something?(just stabbing at ideas)

I once had this, I did a hard reset and that solved the problem. Make sure to backup your data first.
why dont you try another sim card form a friend or something.
like that you can determine where the problem is coming form.
Well, I have a micro SIM from T-Mobile which I was using in my lumia. I wanted to see if I could find a way to make it fit in a regular SIM slot. I decided to try making an extender out of a gift card. When I put it in, it didn't fit. I pulled, and pulled with tweezers, my hands, etc. All failed, and eventually the little piece I was pulling, broke off. I then had a piece of the gift card stuck deep in the slot. So stupidly, I decided to dig around in the SIM slot with the edge of the tweezers to pull it out. Now I can't put a SIM in the SIM slot, and there's still gift card in there. I may have damaged the SIM reader prongs as well... Any ideas on how to fix it? Can I pull off the actual back part to get to it? I really hope I'm not ultimately screwed...

take apart your phone and have a look see, at the very least you should be able to get out the giftcard piece. if you didnt cause too much damage it probably will be fine once out
For some reason when I get a text message my screen will only dim after a short while, it never turns off. I have the timeout set to 15 seconds in settings.
Also, I don't know if its supposed to be this way but the sim card does not go in the side of the phone completely for me like the sd card does. Basically when I close the little cover for the sd card and sim card it pushes in the sim card enough for the phone to read it.
I've already had an issue where I had the phone bounce in my pocket, the little cover for the sd card and sim card got loose, and the sim card moved out so my phone restarted with no sim until I pushed the cover back in.
This is for AT&T by the way.

For the sim card, I had a problem with it not being in there well when I got it from AT&T. I put it in myself later using something thin to push it in and make sure it got pushed in all the way. I've had absolutely no problems yet. Hopefully that continues.
This sim card has to pushed in quite far for the "click" until its completely seated. I had to use a paper clip to push it in enough. Try that.
The paper clip trick worked, thanks guys .

Ditto. I had to offer push my sim card in further when I got home, too. After it did, it locked in place as expected.

Hi,
recently i was in New Orleans (quite hot and sticky, very humid) and was changing the battery on the phone, soon as i did this the Sim Card wouldnt be recognised, which i found abit odd and with numerous attempts at removing the sim card to no avail, soon looked behind the battery to discover the water damage mark was set to red and crosses, assuming it was water damaged somehow i took it to a shop who replaced the sim card tray and checked the phone for water damage... there was none which is alot more striking, had this confirmed with about 5 other phone repair shops that there isnt water damage despite the indicator telling me there is and the sim card tray replaced about 3 times now.
Is this a common problem? what could it be? i'm now left with a overely expensive brick of a tablet.
So apparently it wasn't a bad drop, nothing happened to phone (no cracks or anything) everything is working fine expect sim card, it says ''No Sim Card, Emergency Calls only'' and when i remove card a notification pop up saying ''Unable to detect sim card'' i tried other sim cards and none of them works so i'm guessing its a hardware damage?
Just because there is no external obvious damage, doesn't mean the internals are free of damage. Almost certainly, you broke the SIM tray. You might try to "thicken" the SIM with a piece of tape (don't cover the gold contacts) and see if it cause the SIM to make better contact inside the tray. Be careful you don't put on too much tape, and get the SIM stuck inside.
Other than that, you probably need the SIM tray repaired, or other similar hardware repair.

I forgot to mention that my sim card started working somehow 2 days ago and the problem didn't occur after, if it happens again I'll try what you said. Thanks : )
