How can I install the newest version of the andriod market on my phone?
Regarding market it will automatically update to the newest version. We don't need to update it. The present market version is 2.3.6
Check it under settings/applications/manage applications/all/market.

For me, latest market design is buggy, icons are cut off, no carousel and stuff like that
To prevent questions, no, i dont use custom lcd density.
Any way to fix it? thanks.

Just got notified of an available update on my desire (orange stock froyo)
The update is to 2.17.61.3, any ideas what this brings along? Only changes to the market pre-gingerbread?
/lys
Well, go for it and let us know what changed. I'm on 3, but it's always good to see what updates other people get.

Just got the update and nothing obvious has changed. The changelist displayed on the update only mentioned the market.
I'll see if I notice anything different with usage...
Is this update after the froyo update? Usually market updates are done silently without the user even being asked about it. Check your software version is it 2.2? Or have you been updated to 2.2.1?
Still 2.2 but the build number is different. It was a small 4mb update.

I just made the update too, can't say I have noticed anything new!

Bump
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
No point bumping, it's just a few small bug fixes...not a lot added to the main OTA that went out before
Ok cheers for that.

How does automatic update of market apps work?
I have a few apps that have the automatic update option checked, but I still have to start the update process manually to update them to the latest version...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yes, that's how it works. It's more of a notification thing, taking in to account permissions can change and all that.
A fully automatic update would be great, but I don't think that's normal practice on any platform (or is it?)
Thank you! I didn't consider possible permission changes of applications, that makes sense.
Where should notifications appear? I'm not getting any, having the market either running in background or completely off...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It seems like a joke... The next day after I posted this question I got the notification and the automatic update of applications started on its own... Strange...

Hi all,
I have a problem w my phone as the market app is not updated( the one w new layout).
I have friends who SGS2 who did nth about it and receive the update. So what do i do abt it??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yea, me too. I'm also puzzled as well since we both have the same version i9100M from Canada but his got updated to the new market but mine hasn't. Hopefully someone here has a trick to make it autoupdate.
I deleted market data and cache and after a few minutes it got updated by itself, but the latest version is laggy and buggy, prompts you for updates when there are no updates and updates your apps couple of times to the same version. I got back to the older version, faster and more stable.

I have a SGS2 whereas my wife has SGS1. I didn't receive the market update so far, but she did. I have no idea the reason for that, but I liked the new layout (although I think that improvements can, and should, be made), and at least on her phone it seems that it doesn't lag at all.
Lets wait, or wipe the cache, as said above.
Or search xda and there's a download for the new 3.1.x build.

Is it possible to update market if not rooted & on the stock rom? I have 2.3.6 market & on stock 2.3.3. I tried to clear the data & cache but that doesn't update the market, still on 2.3.6.
Pls utilize the below link for installing the market update custom.
http://lts.cr/sgH
you have to enable the "unknown sources" to install.
Also, if someone knows how to revert back to the old market pls inform.

I am in the UK and my Market hasn't updated.. and I guess I am better that way as lot of people seem to be complaining about the new layout and stuff ( on unofficial 2.3.4 not rooted)

This...
After being on the new market for a long time I went back to 2.3.6 because that actually works! The new one was so extremely laggy and unresponsive.
Did like the looks but the speed of the original/old one makes up for it.

Been on 3.1.3 for a while, just deleted data today for the Market App and it changed to 3.1.5
New market is really slow on my Dlink router until I changed to a Linksys. Both with same settings. New market has bugs where it won't load nor install apps.

Yup, 3.1.5 here too after deleting data. But no improvements or changes, still laggy when using phone data, pretty decent on wi-fi though.
no matter how often I delete my data, the market won't update

Since I've install "custom" stock rom 2.3 on my Desire, I can't install many apps found on the market.
It tells me they are incompatible with my device.
Is there any solution to enable the installation of this app ?
(Sorry for my English, I'm French).
Can you give us some examples?
What ROM did you have now?
I'm on rom 2.3.3 with light mods of Teppic64.
The compatibility problem concerns various apps. All are compatibles with stock froyo rom because I use many of them since many months.
Since I passed on GB some apps can't be updated and don't appear on my apps list on market. And when I search new apps to download few are marked incompatible.

That maybe because they have not yet been updated to work with Gingerbread. Please supply examples of apps as per Dave's request
That's strange, because I'm using 2.3.5 (MIUI) as well, but do not have this issue. Everything is fine with the market - I can update both free and purchased apps.
As I said before give some examples.
The last example is Superuser who can't be update in V3. I've problem with Gmaps, vocal search, facebook and many others current apps or just french apss less known.
And all these apps don't appear in my apps list on market.
I forgot to precise, I use app2sd on ext3 partition.
For Super user try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006313
Honestly, if it works fine why you need to update, I never had to, but it's your choice.
Facebook? That's strange.
Google Maps works here, listed as compatible. Voice search - Incompatible due to not available my country.
Try to use the MarketEnabler app and see if that fixes things for you. If not, Nandroid Backup your ROM and try a different one.
I've already try market enabler but no results.
I've read a thread on google's forum talking about build.prop file in system folder to return on old froyo fingerprint used for market recognition.

that work to fix some apps that doensn't appear because that apps doesn't have full compatibility with gingerbread
but in ur case, as u don't see even google maps..this is impossible. probably gmaps is not available in ur country as u are using a stock gingerbread rom, instead previously u was using a custom rom with everything enabled
so the different is that before u was on a custom rom, now u are on a stock rom..u should install market enabler (adn choice USA as country for example) probably (even if this work only with the old market 2.x i think, but im not sure)
Thanks all for your replies.
I'll try an other rom to look if this problem persists.
I found the origin of my compatibility issues.
I use modified screen density since a lot of months. But my problem appeared only when I passed on GB. The problem persists with different apps density changer (blade buddy and screen density changer)

Strange isn't it. Mine did that yesterday too, even though I had previously deleted Market-updater.apk from /system/app
The latest version of new Market is a lot better though, especially with different DNS settings.
