I am using the Ustream.tv app that allows you to broadcast live from your Android phone. Video quality is fine but sound quality isn't.
Anyone know of an external microphone I could connect to my Epic to improve sound quality?

I have an external mic (called an iRig Mic) that connects to a phone with a headset-jack.
On an iPhone it can be used to record audio when shooting videos, but when i connect it to my Nexus S running android, the sound from the mic is not recorded. Instead the audio from the internal mic i used.
Is there any way to change the audio source when recording videos? This would be a great feature for journalists using their phone as a camcorder for interviews.
Recording audio via 3.5 jack on android using external microphone
You have to buy adapter which will split the signal for microphone in and audio out (you probably know 3.5 jack in your phone is 2 directional as it supports headset with mic)
You can try to look for it on Amazon (headset buddy)
or solder into headset in the pins which are responsible for mic signal.
Then,
I know only 1 app for android which supports recording from external microphone:
Arabela Audio Recorder - choose DEFAULT audio source and it should catch the signal from external mic connected through adapter via 3.5 jack.
I THINK it can catch the audio while recording video because it works in background ... so later you will be able to remove the audio from video recording and join it with the one you recorded using Arabela with some kind of video editor
regards
couple of questions,
for the external mic is it stereo or mono?
any other programs you know that can capture external mic input since this post?
thanks!

Does anyone knows how to set the receiver loopback on in an Evo 4G? i need to test microphone and earpiece speaker simultaneously.
I've tried with an android app but it seems that the only way its to record and play, and the quality is too poor, also you can hear a delay.
Also i found some diagnostic nbh file that have this loopback option but it makes other things such as format and stuff i dont want.
Thanks
I bought a Samson Meteor microphone to record some class lectures. I used SGSII 4-IN-1 connection kit to hook it up. I was able to record with it but the quality was quite low but on my Ubuntu box using Audacity it sounded great. Does anyone know if there is some way to connect an external mic and get good sound? The native voice recorder app on the S3 used the usb mic without a hitch. I installed another app that lets you select a mic but it only recognizes the built ins. Has anyone else tried the external mic thing?
I was wondering if there are any apps out there for E4GT, that allows one to reduce the sensitivity of the microphone and and of its compression . I have attempted to record video and audio at live events, and the mic is simply too sensitive to handle loud environments.. It would be really nice to be able to get a semi intelligible recording of loud environments.
Thanks in advance!!!
Ok so there is an app called HDC Mic Gain Control,
but it requires I use a Kernel that has /proc/mic_level
Is there a way I can compile this into my Agat Kernel, with the FI27 repack, or do I have to go to someone else's compile???
I'm still pretty newb at adding modules to Kernels
Try recording with a phone jack headset plugged in. I've pulled off some decent recordings of my buddy's band. The one I use came with the og epic 4g.

I'll give it a go, I suppose there are some external mic options
Hi!
I have a GNex with 4.2.2 firmware and a Jabra Wave+ bt headset.
I tried to use BTMONO app to pick audio from BT when recording video.
Igcamcorder app let me choose to record the audio from the external mic instead of the terminal mic.
This configuration works very well with the Galaxy tab 2 10.1 and the same BT headset when activating BTMONO, but when using Galaxy Nexus its continue to use internal mic.
I really appreciate to use Galaxy Nexus with external BT mic. With this configuration i will be able to do professional video recording (Full HD and decent audio) with a very portable hardware.
Please let me know if there is a solution, even hacking firmware or using another app.
Thanks in advance,
Alessandro
