[Q] problem with Ext on sd - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I have space problem. I've installed AceSmod007 whit 512 MB Ext3 partition.
In data information i read:
9.71 MB available in data
7.20 MB available on system
412 available on Ext partition
Infact phone warns little free space. What should I do?
Thanks!

try moving apps to sdcard (settings>applications)

I tried. But it fills the fat partition. So now I have less in fat and much in ext.
The problem is that i can't install other apps because it fells that there isn't enaugh free space

how big is your sd card ?.
Im sure they recommend 1GB ext with this rom

After you flashed ROM all apps should be installed on ext, automatically. Try full wipe, wipe cache and flash ROM again

Finally I put cm7-r2 hboot and install the cm7 version of the rom with 1 GB Ext4.
It runs well

Ignore this.... If your using apps2sd its auto
Look up data2sd if you ever need even more room

Check if a2sd/a2sd+ is working:
Get connectbot from market, open it and enter:
Code:
su
ls -l /data
When you can see this:
Code:
app -> /sd-ext/app
app-private -> /sd-ext/app-private
a2sd is working. When you can also see this:
Code:
dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
a2sd+ is working.
When you can see only the first output, it's unsurprisingly, your /data partition gets filled. This is done by dalvik cache.

A2SD HELP!

I have been having nothing but problems with A2SD I decided to partition my EXT3 to 2GB and at first installed leedroid and have since moved to OxygeN both obviously show only around 120mb when I start phone I understand this. It doesn't show A2SD so I install quick system info that says I have 1.99GB A2SD storage. OK move to the future and I have around 14 apps installed and have ran out of space on my phone. internal storage 16.05mb A2SD free 1.85GB the phone is not installing apps to the SD card. It was the same for leedroid and for OxygeN. I have nearly all my A2SD space available. I have no apps moved to SD using Froyo-A2SD. I'm pulling my hair out as my phone refuses to let me download a 700k app from market now..
I tried wiping cache too it upped my free space to 17mb.

No I read thats a bad idea as it can cause problems?
EDIT - Tried it and now I have 97mb free.. AWESOME so far no probs will update if I have any more. Also noticed though when I backed up before adding the mod it had some games/apps in the devlik cache i no longer have installed? Any way I can remove them? Like Skype etc..
A2SD was the reason for me to root...tryed arround diff ROMs...had the same prob like u...then i find my perfect ROM: Acemod007
super fast, stable, super support, and the best: a2sd works perfectly! i have an 2 gb ext4 partition and round 150 apps installed and 200 mb internal free (running CM7r2)!
Check this out!

yep thats why i rooted It's an annoying problem.
To find out, if a2sd+ is working, open terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
ls -l /data
In the ouput you should find this
Code:
/app -> /sd-ext/app
/app-private -> /sd-ext/app-private
/dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
If you cannot find this, partition your sd card with gparted again (save important data before this):
1.) Create fat32 partition (primary)
2.) Create ext partition (primary)
3.) Flash e.g. oxygen rom
At last, make sure you followed the instructions in leedroid thread step by step in the correct order.
is the code i should write 1 or i ?
Neither nor. It's an "L" in lower case character.

[Q] Question about SD card memory

Hi guys, Im a total noob in this stuff.
But my question is, me SD card has a 1GB EXT3 partition and the rest is FAT32.
I recently flashed LeeDrOiD GB Sens rom and I was wondering when I go to the Menu and I look at the memory available it says I have 119MB available space on the internal storage, shouldn't it be 1GB since the EXT3 partition should also be the internal storage...?
Or am i totally lost in this stuff?
You are totally lost. The ext partition does not extend the internal storage. If you installed a2sd correctly, a symlink to /sd-ext will be created. This forces all apps to install in /sd-ext/data instead of internal memory (/data).
To check if a2sd is working, open terminal emulator and enter these commands:
Code:
su
ls -l /data
In the output you should see this:
Code:
/app -> /sd-ext/app
/app-private-> /sd-ext/app-private
If your rom supports a2sd+, you should also find this:
Code:
/dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
The "->" means "is moved to".
Hmm, okay. Its not working.
This is what I get,
app
app-private
backup
dalvik-cache
...
...
And so on... There is no -> symbol.
Well I just made an EXT3 partition and flashed the new LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 - Port - R5 A2SD++. I thought A2SD would install automatically with this ROM.
Is there anything else I need todo so the apps go to the EXT3?
Thank for your reply!
Take a look on the leedroid thread. The dev posted a guide how to get a2sd working.
sorry but i can't write this code,is it a capital i or 1 and does it have spaces between them?
sorry but need the step by step instructions, thnx
Code:
ls -l
ls for list and -l for l(ong). Hope that helps.

[Q] [ICS 0.7]insufficient storage error for particular apps

For certain apps play store is aborting the install displaying insufficient storage after downloading the app.
I was trying to install double twist player which around 7 MB. But play store was not allowing me to install even after several attempts.
I have installed ICS 0.7 (typical) with stock a2sd script with dalvik+app data in sd-ext.
i read somewhere wiping dalvik+cache will fix this, I did a wipe cache+dalvik from recovery but nothing changed.
With titanium backup when i checked the memory usage
System ROM : 262 MB (40.2 MB free)
Internal : 154 MB (150 MB free)
SD Card : 14.3 GB (3.64 GB free)
SD card(a2sd) : 1.58 GB (1.40 GB free)
I am not sure then why it is showing insufficient storage ?
Another amusing thing was i was able to install other apps of size 180 KB, 2 MB, 4 MB and even 7 MB. While some other apps of 3 MB and 4 MB i was not able to install.
Looks like the same issue as posted here
I am not entirely sure about that.
Coz in that post he says his titanium backup shows data is not moved to sd-ext

But for me with disk usage what i get is similar to titanium
/data (147.6 MB) - 143.5 MB free
/cache (40 MB) - 38.6 MB free
/data/dalvik cache (1511 MB) - 1344 MB free
/system (250 MB) - 38.3 MB free

I run the same setup but with a2sd , dalvik and app to sd-ext , app data to internal.
My titanium:
System ROM 262 MB (43 MB free)
Internal 154 MB (129 MB free)
SD card 15.5 GB (14.2 GB free)
SD card (a2sd) 1.00 GB (789 MB free)

Hmmm looks similar.
One thing i forgot to mention yesterday i actually changed my microSD card (from 4 GB to 16 GB).
1) Used 4ext recovery to do (nand+ext) backup in 4 GB card
2) then copied fat32 contents from 4 GB card to 16GB card fat32 partition
3) restored the backup using 4ext in 16 GB
Not sure whether its due to that.
I am planning to try a full wipe and then restore apps using backup pro.
Lets c what happens after that.
In terminal
Code:
su
mkdir /mnt/sdcard/ICS/market-cache
cd /cache
mv download download.bak
ln -s /mnt/sdcard/ICS/market-cache download
ls -ahl
Yes the complete wipe did the trick, i think its some partition issue which was root cause of prob i guess.
In 4 GB card ext4 partition was 768 MB and in 16 GB ext4 i have given 1.5 GB. And i used 4ext recovery to restore nand+ext backup created, which might have caused some conflict related to storage space or a2sd working. (jst my guess)
I was getting lot of FCs and restarts doing so. I did recovery restore seeing this link
May be best option to transfer data/apps while swapping the card was to backup apps and data using my backup pro. And make a complete wipe and install ROM and then restore apps and data, at least in d case of ICS beta ROM .

from my little understanding of linux commands you are asking to create a folder market-cache and then link the file downloaded to market-cache folder. Am i rt?
In that case it shud b 'cp' nt 'mv'
But i already did complete wipe n install. May be, i will try this next time . Thanks.
Another prob now....FCs poping up when i open dialer, maps, google talk, browser etc....i did try wipe dalvik+cache...even tried new installation after factor reset...the pop ups are coming after some time (may be few hours)...
These probs started coming after i started using sandisk mobile ultra 16 GB class 6 card.
i am attaching my logcat...pls help
Similar problem
Hi,
I have a similar problem,
I'm on HTC desire, Hboot stock bravo, partionned sd card with recovery (ext3)
I installed Beta_07.zip afert a full wipe (factory, cache, dalvick cache, battery stats, format sd card then create a partition, then install beta 07 from zip, selected default installation, then a2sd install in terminal, answer no for moving dalvik cache (because of bad performances), and yes for moving data, reboot ...
And now in the market i can't download anything at all
I wanted to install market fix (15 ko) ... market download it, and can't install "not enough space".
I'm soooo tired
I've tried
Code:
su
mkdir /mnt/sdcard/ICS/market-cache
cd /cache
mv download download.bak
ln -s /mnt/sdcard/ICS/market-cache download
ls -ahl
It doesn't work, he doesn't find market-cache directory :-/
Can you help me, please ?
can anyone please review the logcat and tell me whats going wrong?

[Q] Out of space with a2sd on LaidbackNikez JB Alpha9

Hi everyone,
I've installed today the last release of LaidbackNikez JB Rom after a full wipe.
I have a sd-ext partition of 512 Mo.
I followed the install instructions and run a2sd install yny, reboot, and when I restore my apps with TB I have an out of space error.
It seems that a2sd doesn't work.
Anyone have a solution for that ?
512MB is quite small, A2SD could be working as it should, and you may have literally just run out of space...
uninstall something to make room, then install an app like 'diskusage' to browse all your partitions (can do this for any rom), you may find your ext partition full as it contains apps and dalvik-cache
i would backup your sd card, and repartition your sd with a larger ext4 partition (1 to 2GB max depending on how many apps you have), using gparted or 4ext recovery only

I have exactly the same problem. It has been working fine since ICS Beta Rom started with 10 till 18.1, both releases of JB Pre-Alpha 7 & 8. But after upgrading to Alpha 9, I can't restore my backups tooo... I get an error "Not enough space"
Have a Sandisk 16GB Class 4 card, that was working fine till now. Also tried a Tanscend 16GB Class10 card. Same issue. I just go to settings>>Apps, I can see them on the Internal Memory only.
I've discovered on my nexus one, with a2sd yny and a tiny cache partition, that app cache is stored in the data partition. along with app data of course. This is what has caused me to run out space even though I still had plenty of sd-ext remaining.
anyone experiencing this issue will need to run the df command from a terminal or install an app that tells them the usage of each partition. if you have a large enough sd-ext, rerunning a2sd with yyy (ie. moving app data to sd-ext) should solve your problems.

[Q] plants vs zombies2 install problem

I wanted to install p. vs z 2 but it has 168 MB. And our Desire 151MB system partitionn :crying:
Of cause i have an ext partition. There are 754 free Mb of 1,41 GB. (quick system info)
But my intern memory just have 33,44MB of 151 free.
So on the ext i could install it 4 times but the store first download to intern. Is there a way to install? Maybe if someone uploads the apk and i flash it in the recovery directly to ext4?
An other question. When i startet my phone there where just 5,6MB free. When moves the a2sd script things to the partition and when moves it it back?

Your /data partition is 151MB, not your /system partition. Your /system partition is 250MB as you are on stock hboot.

When installing apps, as far as I know it doesn't actually install it to internal (/data), and then move it to ext4. It should install it directly to ext4.
However, depending on the ROM, it needs to see the available space on the internal. The apk is then tricked to your ext4 partition.
One way to install it which might work (not tried it)
- Find and download the apk
- Copy and paste it to your /sd-ext partition using a file browser
- Change file permissions to match your other apps
- Reboot

What ROM are you using, and are you using the built in A2SD script or something else? Any A2SD script should move apps (and maybe dalvik cache) automatically to your ext4 partition. I does not move it to internal and back to ext4.
It looks like your memory usage is not very efficient. You may benefit from changing hboot if your ROM /system size is a lot smaller than 250MB. Your dalvik cache might also be on internal, when you could move it to sd-ext where there is plenty of free space.

i'm using RSK Sattelite ROM.
but if the apps are installed to ext how comes that the data sometimes has about 10MB free and after i installed an update there are 15MB free??

It depends a bit on how your script works. Reading the ROM OP it has some sort of "a2sdx" built it, I'm not familiar with exactly how it works. You need to understand this script first before wondering about anything internal memory related.
Think about it logically though...the script is meant to move things to the ext. That's its purpose. Generally they move at least the whole app apk to ext.
So
- If you have an app installed, it should already be on the ext.
- When you update the app, it will overwrite the existing apk on ext.
- There are other things along with an app such as app libs, app data and dalvik cache, which may be on internal or ext depending on the script. These can change on app updates as well.
Have a look at an app like 'DiskUsage', use it to browse your /data partition. See what's using the space. Often you may have some stray /system apps on /data, and you need to move them back to /system.
