I know the EVO 3D has the dual cameras to take 3d pictures. What does it have so you can view that type of content that the EVO 4G does not have? I really dont give a flip about taking 3d pictures but would like to view the content. Is that possible on the phone I already have, EVO4G?

A 3d screen.
Quoted from PcWorld review:
One of the most important features of the EVO 3D is, of course, its 3D display. The phone uses parallax barriers to display 3D images and video, without the need for clunky 3D glasses (similar to the concept used on the Nintendo 3DS). The EVO 3D's 4.3-inch qHD 960-by-540-pixel screen looks terrific in 2D--and pretty good in 3D, as well. Let me be clear, however: This isn't the kind of 3D you'd see at the movie theater. Images aren't exactly flying in your face. Rather, it looks like you can peer into the phone much like a diorama.
You need to maintain an absolute dead-on viewing angle to properly appreciate the third dimension, though. If you're viewing at a slight angle, the image will look like a blurry mess. This can be difficult with a small screen. With an image or a short video clip, it isn't too hard to hold the phone directly in front of your eyes for a few seconds. And don't even think about trying to watch 3D movies outside; it completely fades in bright sunlight. If you don't want to view 3D images and prefer to stick to the standard 2D display, a toggle switch on the side of the device allows you to turn the effect off.
Thanks for the reply

No problem. I went yesterday to take a look at the Evo 3d and the phone is incredibly fast and Sense 3.0 is pretty sweet but the 3d aspect of it is really gimmicky to me. I have a full upgrade on my line with my EVO and was going ot get the 3D but I cannot seem to pull the trigger with what is supposedly coming out in July.
As someone who had an OG Evo, and moved to the Evo 3D, let me say that the 3D viewing is pretty spectacular for a small screen. You do have to maintain the proper angle to appreciate it though, since it uses a parallax barrier for viewing 3D.
Sounds like you have to work at it to enjoy too much. Think I will just stick with I have and wait for the technology to be expanded upon a little more.
Not really working on it so much, as it is getting used to seeing it properly. It's a lot like looking through a ViewMaster... Remember those?

Here is my personal opinion. I think the EVO 3D is NOT worth the upgrade unless you just flat out want a 3D display to watch 3D stuff on it like a movie or whatever. the specs for the phone are a joke. 200MHz faster? that's it? It's practically the same phone we have. I think every phone should start coming out with a 3D screen. However, the other thing is the phone has the power to take/record in 3D. But really, how many people ACTUALLY have 3D TV's to view this on? They don't give us software to put the recordings onto a DVD or in a format that we can play it on a big screen 3D TV. Most people that get the EVO 3D are only getting it to say they got the best and newest phone. I'll wait until the new processors come out with better more up-to-date hardware. plus those newer phones are going to have better battery life than our current processors.

It has DOUBLE the RAM, an second processing core in addition to the 200 MHz higher clocking which is also built on a smaller more energy efficient process, a GPU that is somewhere around 5x better, a bigger battery and a higher resolution. I'm waiting on the N3 or a Mango WP7 phone to use my upgrade but you are insane to think that the 3D isn't a significant improvement.
I now have the 3D phone, I can honestly say I don't care for the 3D nor is it the reason I got the phone. The EVO is an awesome phone, the new EVO 3D has a far superior build quality in my opinion. They fixed the glass placement into the bezel, call quality has improved, WiFi radio seems stronger, exchange email features are improved significantly, etc.
Absolutely love this phone, and Sprint is paying $150 trade in for the EVO.

So in your opinion, 3D aside, there are good reasons to upgrade to this phone. Thanks for the input.

Looks like you may be off A TON on your specs there.. read up and review, then again its your personal opinion but unfortunately you are way off on accuracy except one fact, it does have 3D, that is correct.
For the OP, if you are into hacking, modding etc, wait until the 3D is rooted then you have 1.2ghz DUAL CORE, more RAM then you will possibly need (this year) and with ROOT the possibilities are endless. If rooting/modding isn't your thing, you still get a one heck of the fastest cells out there, good battery life, great 4G, wifi and of course some cool 3D features. If you don't use the 3D, dont worry, the pics convert to normal 2D as well and you obviously have the ability to only use in 2D mode as well.. Its a good choice for one of the if not fastest cells today..
Take a look at this which describes the different CPU's and what the are and aren't capable of, it might help you decide what is good for now vs. what will be outdated later. The 3D is right up there and you can read about here:

Good luck!

I read a little about the htc super star, so which do you think for better?
For starters I tryed to dig up a little information and found(I think all this stuff was leaked so im not sure how acurate it is now cause the superstar isnt even on htx wordwide website yet):
Touch pro 2:
528 MHz processor[288 MB of RAM
Ships with WM 6.1 but has can be upgraded to 6.5 when it comes out
full qwerty keyboard and it tilts too ]
3.6 inch WVGA touch screen
Confirmed to exist lol
Superstar
600 MHz processor
256 MB RAM
ships with WM 6.5
full qwerty keyboard
3.7 inch WVGA touch screen
I dont think it's been confirmed yet
Plus I think the processor are made by different companies, and I found all this stuff simply by Googling so I hope this is convenient but I cannot confirm all this is accurate, especially for the superstar but feel free to add info in comments, and of coarse, tell which one you think is better.
I will start the discussion by stating my opionion, and thats that the touch pro 2 is better cause it has more ram a tilting keyboard, and a zoom bar and looks way better, so with that, let the discussion begin! lol
Hope superstar have a face soon...I can wait a year more to upgrade to something REAL good
"The Superstar however is the real mystery, and the only device which can not be identified from the known specs. The Nvidia AP16 chipset is likely referring to nVidia APX Tegra platform, which I am sure it very encouraging news to us enthusiasts disappointed by Qualcomm. The 3.7 inch WVGA screen near guarantees a media-focused device, which is something I think very many of us are waiting for.
See FuzeMobility for more info."

but what is the main difference in the processor, its only 72 MHz more so what the touch pro 2 has a tiliting screen and a full qwerty keyboard and a zoom bar and dual speakers and dual mics, now thats awesome
The superstar is a completely different processor class and should be much much faster (don't just compare the rated speed). Like going from 486 to 586 in the PC world. The Tegra chipset is also 1080P video capable and there are many other goodies with a mean integrated graphics processor. The Pro 2 is good, but hardware that has been around for quite a while.
In that case then you got me salivating. However, I really doubt this thing comes to Sprint here in the states. If they bring out the TP2 Q3 of 09, why would they follow it up so quickly with this? I hope I'm wrong though as I'm upgrading in december. fingers crossed that something even cooler than the TP2 will be around.

so wait do you think this it would be worth waiting like half a year for this phone? and also do you think it will make it o the us, cause some phones like the touch hd never did
The superstar is superior, it will most likely feature HDMI out because it has HD capabilities, here is a pic:

The graphic will be able to play the real quake 3 with ease, it can play hd for 10 hours and music for 30 hours

wait a sec... I googled it and found this pic:
http://www.gsmdome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/nvideadevice.jpg
if its really THAT thick... yeah... umm I would expect specs that high but it doesn't look like that would even fit in my pocket. or maybe it just looks really bulky in the pic, but if you think of it that way then the htc shift is already out and is by far the best phone ever, so why doesn't every one get that? aside from the price, its WAY to big for a phone, so if the superstar is that big I would prefer a less powerful phone like the touch pro 2, or maybe that pics a fake. but I doubt it because it would explain why this device is so far ahead of other phones, but some people prefer bigger more powerful phones, just like the shift is a bigger phone than the touch pro 2 but is better, and I will admit even the touch pro 2 is big, but I draw the line when it is to big to fit in my pocket, but then again that's just my opinion on the touch pro 2 vs. the superstar btw after seeing that pic my opinion changed a lot lol
I don't think it's as big as it looks. In fact, I think it's just a REALLY stupid marketing pic. From the screen size, it looks about the same size on the front ast the Touch HD. The thickness is questionable, but I think the poor picture makes it look thicker than it really is. I'm guessing it's a little bit thicker than a Titan. The TP2 is a little bit less. Still would be bigger than the TP2, but maybe worth the sacrifice.
That said, (and I really have know information to back this up) I'd bet a paycheck they don't bring this to the states through a major carrier.

thats possible they didnt bring a lot of really nice phones to the u.s, but the touch pro 2 is still pretty nice, just a little under powered, if it had better graphics and a better processor, that would be the best phone ever lol
i don't mind having a big phone as long as it fits in my pocket i like the touchpro 2 and will be a nice back up if the superstar isn't in my budget or if it doesn't come to the us i'm currently using a wizard with a extended battery pack at times so i don't think a phone can get much thicker then that
htc superstar looks like a winner to me
but im interested and seeing about the buttons there seems to be a lack of buttons but i'm pretty sure it will have a g-sensor in it so that can kinda work in replace of the buttons

U beat me to it, that iz Nvidia's concept phone/mid that they made from since the start of 2007 or 2008. I will be getting the TP2 first then sell it on Ebay when the superStar comes out. If the SuperStar comes out an work like it does in the following video I will be really sold. Also I heard that it iz coming out Q4 '09. Here is a video of their Windows CE made UI, very fresh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQa9nP4yyms
yea that's goin to be a really nice device i think i might have to steal your idea zellbz sell get the pro2 and then when the superstar comes out do some testing and then sell the pro2 online on ebay or two a friend.
i dont think the size of the phone will be to bad it i'm a pretty big guy anyway so a bigger device is a plus

I remember this concept pic. from when they first announced that nvidia chipset. I doubt the superstar with look like that at all. In fact, it will probably be a tablet pc like the athena. btw, does the TP2 have a graphics processor at all?
I am upgrading soon. I know a lot of you hate threads like this, get over it. I am stuck between the Evo 3D or the upcoming Samsung Galaxy SII. I was thinking the Evo, simply because I am a fan of Sense, and it has a higher resolution. However, the new Epic comes with full 1080p HD recording, and the Super Amoled + display. Now, how often will I actually record in 1080p HD? Probably not often. The Super Amoled display looks beautiful though. I haven't seen much on the 3D's screen, does it look nice?
I am planning on upgrading to one of these within the upcoming week. Thanks for all of your thoughts/input!
I was expecting the evo 3d to actually have a 3d screen - it doesn't (at least that I could tell from playing with it in the sprint store). It has 3d photography or something?
I could be wrong.
It does have a 3D screen although it did not do much for me except give me a head ache.... and, this is not the Evo 3D or Galaxy SII forum.

Your point?... I'm currently on an HTC Evo 4G, running the Shooter port. I was asking which phone would be better to upgrade to from the Original Evo.. There was no need for this to be posted there.
Thanks for your comments/opinions.
Hello everyone,
I am a current evo 3d user who is purchasing the touch tomorrow (and giving the 3d to my financee).
Why am I purchasing the 4g touch. We all know it is a fast phone, it is great, etc, etc.
1) I want a phone that is fast, and great out of the box. I don't want to have to root it, overclock it, etc to make myself feel like I got my money's worth. The epic 4g touch will accomplish this (not saying I won't root it, or flash roms, I always do ).
2. I want a phone that is future proof. I want to be happy with the performance of my phone a year from now. I have yet to have a phone accomplish this, and I don't have the money to swap phones every 6 months (though I wish I did). I believe the epic 4g touch will be future proof...even for an entire upgrade cycle.
3. I want a great screen. The evo 3d didn't have this...and that is inexcusable for a "superphone" that cost as much as a good laptop. The epic 4g touch arguably has the best screen in the market at the moment.
4. Touchwize 4.0 looks pretty damn sweet
What do you guys think? Why are you buying the phone?
Also, for those who have the phone, how is the screen? Is the resolution lacking on such a big screen? How would you rate the phone for viewing pdf's....etc?
I am a graduate student, I need a phone I can read on .

This phone stock blows a rooted and overclocked 3d out the water. I just switched from the 3d and its better times 10.
Better signal. Better screen...even at lower resolution ..exynos core is a BEAST..plays n64 games on emulator stock smoother than overclocked evo. Better cameras..better speakers...this thing screams dude. And most of all...its a GREAT PHONE before anything. Great call quality..stronger reception than the 3d. If your on the fence..jump man..it's worth it
sent from my damn EPIC TOUCH 4G!!!!
Sounds like good reasons to me. The E3D is a great phone but I think this one is a little better all the way around.
I feel like the hdmi out would make up for the lack of a high res screen (even though it doesnt look any different from one that does). Just plus that sucker up to a cheap 10 inch hd TV and your set imo.

How much of a sore spot is not having TV Out on the original Epic? People go nuts over it whenever the thread gets bumped. If the WVGA screen uses any less battery than qHD then I can't think of anything I would complain about. I purchased 2 movies from Media Hub and, I am dead serious, the clarity is every bit as good as my 1080 HDTV...and that's on my Epic. I can't wait to see the same flix on the ET4G tomorrow since the screen is supposed to be a little better even. Power and battery life seem great from reviews, Improved Touchwiz..ok, I will give it a real chance. I can honestly see myself running rooted stock and not complaining abou it while waiting for the real goodies to get baked.

I'm coming from the Epic 4g and I loved that phone. I told myself I wouldn't upgrade until I found a true successor. With everything I have read about the E4gt i'm hoping this is the one. Plus I loved the developers for the Epic 4G and i'm hoping they come along to this phone as well!
I'm buying it because I know it's a beast of a phone that I'm going to fall in love with and appreciate for a very long time like i did my Evo was for it's time. But actually I am also buying a Samsung this time around because believe it or not, Apple is filing litigation against them. That unfortunately has become my litmus test of great products to come. As you can probably tell, I hate apple with a passion. Whoever Apple's suing the most at any given point will receive my business.
I am.... maybe buying it depending on Nexus Prime news or lack of Nexus Prime news over the next 4 weeks.
The deciding factors for me are:
1) The performance of the Processor and Video Processing. yes benchmarks doesn't fully tell the truth, but with out tweaking anything the numbers its putting it out is mind blowing. 90mflops with over 3000!!! Look at the gaming number too!!! next to the photon its a Tachyon!!
2) The Camera sensor. the only device to record at 1080p!!!! What is wrong with HTC and Motorola? why cant they contend with that ability. Its not a Android software issue. if the EVO 3D had DUAL 8MP EVO cameras at least then the EVO 3D would have had more stomping ground. More megapixels does mean a sharper image when sized down to smaller resolutions, to get real 35mm photo quality images digitally you need around 20 megapixels to equal the same sharpness and depth of analog camera quality. so in Digital Megapixel world less means LESS, yes the sensor may matter, but still digital needs more pixels to equal analog quality.
3) Battery Life. So far the reviews for Sept 15th are confirming that the battery life is better than the other 2 contenders.
4) THE SCREEN. 4.5 inches of pure bliss beauty. I cant wait to see the Samsung NOTE Super AMOLED HD 5 inch screen!!!!! too bad they couldnt have a higher resolution on the AMOLED + to the 960 x 540. Really I want the Samsung NOTE over the Epic now, but it looks like Sprint might not get it as in the specs doesn't show CDMA, still could mean a version for sprint may come out of the molds..
5) Software abilities, Yes Sense 3.0 still has amazing features that wont be copied, but then from the new motion sensing feature of Touchwiz looks promising. it was about time they used the motion/extra sensors to input with the software. Really I want full customization of any animated features for ALL phones, if you want a specific animated software feature, you should not be limited to only certain things per manufactures decision only be limited by the main operating system. If you want the cool Carousel feature of the main menu, Sense UI should not be the only one to have it. Heck having the carosel feature with shaking the Epic touch left or right with out using your finger would be KILLER. I also like the cube conveyor belt like feature of the Apps selection on the Nexus S. I have a few other animated features I want to see implemented that I saw with Ubuntu since android is based off of linux kernel, majority of all the Ubuntu like animated features could work on it. all in all the new software features is a serious worthiness.

Most men have, I would be lying if I said I hadn't
Aside from the GPS, Samsung pretty much nailed the hardware in the Galaxy S line. Their Hummingbird based hardware blew away it's contemporaries, and the SAMOLED screen drew raves (although the pentile matrix display was docked points by some for the screen door effect and fuzzy text). But the software wasn't on the same level. Touchwiz 3.0 was not the greatest skin in the world.
The reason I'm getting the Epic Touch is because Samsung continued its hardware domination this generation, fixed GPS, went RGB stripe with the SAMOLED Plus screen, and, more importantly, worked very hard to make the software work on the same level as HTC's Sense skin. The result is arguably the best phone on the market (screen size preferences being the biggest deciding factor) and for what I look for in a phone, easily blows away it's nearest competitor. I am very, very happy that I decided to forgo the Evo 3D to wait indefinitely for the S2. Thank god it's here now, and thank god they moved to the 4.52" screen. The Epic Touch is basically my dream phone.

I just got the Samsung Epic Touch 4G and the call quality is MUCH better but the EVO 3D has faster data speeds. I had the EVO 3D for about 2 plus months.
Some of these things are just my opinion of course so some may have another view:
Epic Touch 4G - Pros
1. Significantly better voice quality
2. So far no dropped calls (I'll update if this changes).
3. The screen is much more vibrant but the resolution difference is kind of noticeable so in some cases I find the EVO 3D better and in some situations I prefer the ET4G.
4. Accurately shows number of unread messages in email on exchange all the time
5. Larger screen
6. Lighter
7. Slimmer
8. Blacks are extremely good - you can switch it to Movie mode if you find the colors oversaturated.
9. Contacts show easier - IMHO
10. Better speaker quality or just louder
11. Better camera - pictures are much crisper.
12. Vlingo integrated nicely so it accurately dials by name - when adding Vlingo to the 3D I had to touch the screen to use Vlingo - not so with the ET4G.
13. Better viewing angles for screen - easier to read even when not perfectly parallel with your eyes.
Epic Touch 4G - Cons
1. TouchWiz not as good in most ways as Sense IMHO
2. Lock screen seems to require more of a swipe to clear.
3. I prefer the wallpapers on the EVO 3D (insignificant I realize).
4. I prefer the news and weather widgets on the EVO 3D (not terribly important either).
5. It seems just a little slower to charge although neither is fast even when charging via AC.
6. Slower data speeds than the 3D.
7. For some reason when you press the voice mail icon it goes to speaker even if you have BT enabled. (Samsung is aware of the issue and working on a fix)
EVO 3D - Pros
1. The data on the EVO 3D is much faster than the ET4G
2. The screen has a higher resolution but isn't as vibrant so in some cases I find the EVO 3D better and in some situations I prefer the ET4G
3. I find rearranging icons easier with Sense than TouchWiz. In general I prefer most things about Sense.
4. I prefer the IM format on the E3D - can't say definitevely it is better - just a preference.
EVO 3D – Cons
1. Horrible voice quality
2. Dropped calls
3. Doesn't accurately indicate number of unread messages on Exchange mailboxes.
4. Smaller Screen
5. Voice dial not at all accurate.
OTHER
I don't really notice much difference in speed between the two - some say they notice a big difference and claim the Epic Touch 4G is much faster/smoother- I don't notice that at all.
If it wasn't for the crappy call quality and dropped calls/signal issues on the EVO 3D I would have been happy to have stuck with the EVO 3D.
I see a lot of people who like the look of other screens and I cant figure out why. I don't think any other screen even comes close to the quality of Samsung SAMOLED and the SAMOLED+. My friend has the EVO 3D and imo my Epic 4G looked 10x better in every scenario. Now that I have the SAMOLED+ in my Epic Touch 4G the screen is even better......and bigger I still cant get over how much better it looks in comparison to qHD screens or any other screen for that matter.

I would say when I'm looking at tiny print I notice the difference in resolution. I'd say in most cases I prefer the larger and richer screen of the ET4G. Some things of course are a matter of opinion so I wouldn't fault someone for saying at times they prefer one or the other.
Thanks for the honest comparison. I spent some time with the ET4G and can say a agree with all of your points. The screen of the ET4G is absolutely beautiful and obviously more vibrant than that of the E3D, however, occasionally the lower pixel density becomes noticeable. Anyone who says the ET4G is noticeably faster than the E3D is lying, though the ET4G is noticeably smoother.
Your comment about data speeds is what concerns me most about the ET4G. My voice and data on my E3D is the best I've ever had. However, my NS4G and my wife's Epic both have worse data and voice than my 3D; your lower data speeds seem to indicate that Samsung perhaps hasn't worked out their various issues with signal strength- my biggest concern about their phones. Anyhoo, thanks again for the comparison.
Id love to see the lastest Sense installed on the epic touch. Maybe someone will make it happen. I wouldnt surprise me at all, these guys do some amazing things!

I enjoyed comparing the two. I don't know what you are coming from that your E3D is the best you've had, my old htc vogue had much better voice quality than my E3d (I exchanged it twice in different places an all were bad). The ET4G is better than my 3d for voice quite noticably. I have been continuing my tests on data and I will say it is still slower than the E3D. Some people are getting great speeds on their ET4G - I can only compare what I got on my old E3D vs. my new ET4G and it is about 35% slower on average at my home.
I forgot to mention that for whatever reason I prefer the IM on the E3D as well.

In nearly every way I prefer sense but I would only go back to it if it was finally accurate for number of unread messages - that was a huge issue for me with the e3d. I had 3 of them and everyone I know with one has the same issue for it not reporting the correct number of unread messages if your email account is on an exchange server.
Great for the honest review.
The photon was no doubt faster feeling than the evo, the epic is noticeably faster than the photon. I owned the photon for a month and was prone to lag and not as speedy. Trying to lag this epic touch down I really can't. But I guess one would have to do certain things on a phone or care more to realize it.

I don't use the camera much but so far the pictures on the ET4G is significantly better. I probably should mention it - the camera isn't important to me so I skipped that.
2 days ago, when i went to the Sprint store, I went in wanting the Evo 3D.
& came out with the Epic 4g Touch.
it feels better, slimmer, larger screen, lighter (i think).
and also, the whole "3d" scheme for the Evo didnt seem very 3D at all, to be honest it actually gave me a headache looking at the 3D pics/videos.
it looked exactly like when you're watching a 3D movie & you take the glasses off, i even asked the guy "do i need 3D glasses to see this?" i was totally serious too.
in the end 4g Touch > Evo 3d
just my $0.02

Post where ? This thread ? Another thread ? I'm obviously still shopping. Hmm, very interesting .. Although ive watched 3D movies without any problem, course with the glasses ..
it'd be interesting to see if wearing the real 3d glasses would help with the evo at all lol

The 3d on the evo is really nice. That is, after you have owned it and understand it. Does any one know if touch wiz can tag facebook photos?
I had evo 3d for almost 20days I can say everything on epic 4G trumps evo 3d. Even on screen 3d has higher resolution but can't compare with super amoled. Epic 4G is like 5times faster than evo 3d speed is night and day different.

Epic 4G or Epic 4G Touch?
Temporarily using a Blackberry 9650 while I decide which phone I want to buy. Had the EVO LTE for a few weeks last month and I enjoyed it, but did notice a couple of glaring performance issues mainly when heavily multi-tasking. I'm going to walk into the Sprint store today and have some hands-on with the GS3 to see if I can replicate these kinds of problems on it also (seeing as they run the same SoC).
So what made you pick one over the other? The main reason I'm leaning toward the GS3 now is because of the 2gb of RAM, which makes it seem a little more future proof. The EVO LTE looks and feels better, and also has a better camera (although I really don't like HTC's camera software). The screens are both great. Another thing that really worries me about the GS3 is radio/GPS issues. The EVO LTE was great in this department, and historically this hasn't been Samsung's strongpoint, so if anyone who has the phone and would like to chime in please feel free!
Sorry if this gets asked a lot, and I know that "just try them both and pick whichever you prefer" seems best for most, but I'm the type of person that also likes to get opinions from other techies, just in case there's something I'm overlooking
I heard the EVO has a "reboot problem" in the OS, causing it to randomly reboot often. As far as hardware goes, the EVO might just have the upper hand (I'm speaking mostly due to camera).
What contributes to the opinion that the camera is better on the EVO? I feel quite the opposite. I hear the new Sense is like dropping anchor at full speed. I also bow to the mighty God Odin, fixer of bootloops restorer of stock roms. I like the Gorilla Glass, not sure if EVO has been upgraded to that. Samsung does take forever with updates (though we've had 2 already) but they don't release crap updates. Either HTC has some whiny fans or their updates aren't really top-notch. Samsung phones tend to feel more organic in shape in my hand. I find it to be the difference between driving and older honda versus an old volvo. Some people love boxy. I also feel like Samsung is headed in the right direction. After HTC lost the Nexus they seemed to lose their steam. At thsi point Apple is looking desperate against the momentum of Samsung. Makes me feel like I'm backing a strong horse.
I personally just think I've seen it all with sense, one of my major reasons was that I had a galaxy note before the evo lte and I got use to the feeling of big phones, I found the evo to be a bit too narrow, the s3 is slightly wider. Also multi tasking was kinda horrible on the evo lte. With that being said I didn't root the evo because I had the intention of returning it for the s3 from day one, so maybe i would've enjoyed it more if it was rooted

Another thing that really worries me about the GS3 is radio/GPS issues

I can't speak for everyone but here on Long Island those issues haven't existed or manifested themselves. Cell radio is fine, 3G coverage is the same as not better then my previous phone (Original Galaxy, Epic 4G) and GPS has been super quick to lock (after the hassle that was the Epic in terms of GPS it's like night and day, and I use GPS for my work every day at least 3 times a day).
Also I haven't played enough with the new Sense but the new version of Touchwiz overall is full of good customization and doesn't seem to be too annoying (out of the box it can be, but you can adjust most of it away).
Overall it's hard to find too much fault, some people find issues with AMOLED screens, and while the 'haze' was noticeable on my Epic up close, the GS3 has such a high PPI that I don't notice it.
Few things that turned me off of the EVO LTE: No removable storage, No swappable battery (GS3 does actually get very good battery life but I'm a power-user by habit and always like to have a quick-swap spare available) and that EpicCM team wasn't a part of the community (I'm sure the EVO has wonderful dev's as well, a buddy of mine does dev for it with the at&t version, but after following the CM7->CM9 progress on the Epic, as well as all the rest of the Sprint/Samsung dev community, I'm happy to stick with it).

Well the HTC One X camera uses a BSI sensor and f/2.0 lens. What it translates to in real-world usage is anyone's guess, but on paper the camera is supposed to be better.

Oh, apparently I was wrong about that, is it the one x that doesn't? maybe I'm going crazy
The only thing that I can say that I didn't like about the evo was: the non removable battery, lack of multitasking. But I do miss the screen and that awesome camera button.

I had the evo lte and loved it but the only thing tgat annoyed me was the weak antenna it woukd always drop dignal and also the evo lte has better cam than sg3 and also evo lte feels more sturdy the sg3 is a goid phone also pretty fast and good multy tasking i dont mind the non removable vattery on evo lte but both great phones also negative about sg3 ut feels very plasticky
Im on my SG3
SG3:
Good:
easy to root, install rom
removable battery
universal accessories (all versions including international can use same accessories)
very good loudspeaker
Bad:
battery drains quick compare to the Evo Lte
it does not feel like solid phone (like it can break easily)
slow charging (as with most Samsung)
Evo LTE:
Good:
Excellent battery life
Excellent fit and finish
Phone feels solid
kickstand
camera
music player with soundhound integration
fast charging (as with most HTC phones)
Bad:
non removable battery (my biggest complaint) I stream sports videos a lot so I go through batteries like crazy
dialer cannot send text, have to use messaging app separately
when you click on a phone number from a link or text you are forced to use the phone/dial pad instead of the messaging app (very annoying) I think it is Apple lawsuit related
no quick toggles from drop down menu
loudspeaker volume is too low
Man, I was heavily leaning towards the GS3 until today. I went to the Sprint store on my lunch break and played with both phones extensively, and in the end the GS3 suffered from the same performance issues the LTEVO did, so I'm guessing it's maybe related to ICS? To be more specific, I'm picky. I like having a phone that switches from task to task very quickly (I felt my Epic 4G Touch did that very well). So for example, if I'm on the app store downloading app after app, the phones will begin to slow a little during installs if I switching from screen to screen. I thought at first it was maybe the LTEVO, but I was able to replicate that behavior on the GS3 also, so it's safe to say that the 2gb of RAM isn't really needed, or is at least not helping any of the "real world" tests I tried.
Also, the camera on the LTEVO is quite a bit better. It was both faster, and offered better quality shots more consistently. HTC's camera software absolutely sucks, but I think the camera unit is better. I tested the macro settings and they were significantly better on the LTEVO. Basically, I could focus on things closer to the lens compared to the GS3.
So I think I'm going to pick the LTEVO again. I don't want anyone to think that I'm bashing the GS3. In all honesty either of those phones are an absolute great choice since they are extremely similar where it counts, and really only different in the personal preference areas (such as look, build, removable battery, etc). Performance is just about the same on both phones. I hope this thread was as helpful to someone else as it was to me

For the EVO LTE bad list, you sound like you're nitpicking for a longer list. How many people send texts through the dialer? The HTCLinkify thing can be removed (so the click on a phone number thing is fixable), the EVO LTE has a button in the notification to get into settings (not as good as toggles, but not as bad as "nothing"). the loud speaker being too low is arbitrary.
You also left out some cons for the SGS3. There's a LOT of proprietary software that isn't very good (sounds like Sense doesn't it?), S-Voice is a gimmick.
There's just as many Sense haters as there are Touchwiz haters...it all comes down to preference. I'm going for the LTE because it's many of the same developers who's softwares I've been using since the OG EVO. Can't beat that pedigree. For most people, though, it's a question of would they rather be bloated down by Touchwiz and have a blue phone or be bloated down by HTC Sense and have a black phone with a kickstand. Otherwise, the specs are too identical to even consider voting one way or the other.
I was in love with the new evo, and when I saw my employee pricing through best buy for the gs3 I fell in love with it more ahaha. Some doof in corporate marked it 350 off contract so I traded in my 3d and it payed for it. But after playing with my friends evo, I realized that I liked my phone better. Touchwiz 5 is great IMO and I was ready to try something other than a HTC phone.

I owned both and I really wanted to like the evo lte over the s3. I really liked the screen of the evo lte, kickstand, build quality, the dedicated camera button, it was black, and the overall look of it was very cool. It's a shame that the way the multitasking worked on it was really retarded (not sure if this could be fixed by a software update or custom rom). Not only that but the lack of a replaceable battery is really a killer too.
I guess the s3 won me over because of the replaceable battery, the crazy development that will be going on for it, the fact that multitasking didn't have to reload every single time I changed back to a program, and how I could keep programs in my memory to make them smoother (2gb).
there are already a ton of gs3 vs evolte threads bro

Exactly my experience and thoughts. +1
Before even reading the rest of the replies I'll post my 2¢. Just picked up the Galaxy S3 on Monday evening.
I had the EVO 4G original at release and LOVED LOVED LOVED IT - then last June it, along with half my electronics at home, was the victim of a lightning hit down the alley on one of the transformers. Fortunately my computer gear survived. But I digress. From the EVO 4G I went to the EVO 3D, which, while the phone itself was OK, there wasn't as much of a development community out there for it as some other phones, my OG EVO especially. Cyanogen never came out for it in a year, and battery life ended up being worse and worse over time. If I'd kept the OG EVO I'd probably have been in a much different frame of mind regarding HTC's phones, but the 3D was just not their greatest hit.
Ultimately, I was torn between the 4G LTE and S3 - got both in my hands to play with and was still torn. Ultimately, I didn't want another HTC 'black slab' and I learned to dislike Sense more and more, since many of the higher functioning ROMs out there were Sense-based and I had to run ADW or another launcher on top of it.
So far I couldn't be happier with my choice. I got the blue, no case (maybe I will), and have not rooted (yet). I like the touchwiz interface, have pared down my homescreens to only 4 like I prefer, and battery life is outstanding! I am going to let it discharge all the way and see how long I can squeeze out of it. It's the idle/standby time that is so outstanding in my mind. Only a few percentage points gone overnight as opposed to 30-40% with the EVO 3D.
Oh, and the screen on this thing is amazing. So clear and sharp and beautiful...and as big as cellphone screens should ever get! Seriously.
Because of one thing - the name
Saying "Galaxy S3" is much easier than Saying "Sprint EVO 4G LTE". But don't listen to us. Walk, ride, skip or fly over to your nearest sprint store and see for yourself. The GS3 has 2GB of ram which is really awesome when multitasking. If you ask me all high end devices should have 2GB of ram. Other than that it's about the build. The EVO has a nicer screen, it feels like a solid brick that could hurt someone, and it has a kick stand. The GS3 feels soft like a babies bottom or a mammary and it looks super awesome also like a mammary. Amirite?
I actually feel differently on the aspect of development. I came from the OG EVO also, and dev support on that thing was amazing. From that I "upgraded" to the EVO 3D, but soon thereafter switched to the Epic 4G Touch as soon as it launched. Dev support just wasn't there for the EVO 3D. After I did some research, it made sense (no pun intended), but the EVO 3D was doomed from the start. What I mean by that is that it was never intended to be the true successor to the OG EVO, and thus not a lot of devs followed the device. Made perfect sense. The Epic 4G Touch had *better* dev support, but it still wasn't anywhere near what the OG EVO had.
I guess either way it's too early to tell which of the two (LTEVO and GS3) is going to have better dev support, but for some reason my gut is telling me that the LTEVO will.
I don't know if I agree with the 2gb of RAM on a phone just yet. iOS is a pretty crappy multi-tasking OS, yet the iPhone 4S only has 512mb of RAM and it's still a very good performing phone by today's standards. I also tested the SG3 (as mentioned in one of my previous posts), and it suffered from the same performance issues the LTEVO did when running it through my personal "real world" tests. So at least in my experience, the 2gb didn't seem to help the SG3.
Either way, both great phones. No clear winner over the other, when taking everything into consideration
