Its a problem with the auto bright and the polling interval. its just not doing smooth transitions. Work in the settings to get it to smooth out. i used to have this issue, dont remember exactly how i fixed it though.
Are you doing anything with the special settings under automatic backlight in CMsettings? or just using the auto brightness in the regular Android settings? I'm using no special stuff in CMsettings and mine works fine.

Auto brightness and cyanogen rom question

Any way to fix the cyanogens rom auto dimmer for the brightness of the screen? Mine goes from dark to bright, there is no in between

I haven't noticed that, but I have noticed that it doesn't go as dark as when you set it manually. It's blinding at night.

Im the exact opposite I went back to skyraider because cm6 rc3 was dark as hell at night or even in a lit room. I had to go outside to get the screen to turn up
I just set the screen on medium brightness, but I miss the auto adjustment like 2.1 had. This is the only thing that is giving me issues. I see that there are some settings in cyogenmod, any way to make up the amount of points of brightness so I don't get just dark/medium/bright?

I had the same problem initially. I think I've got it fixed, though. CM6 is WAY more configurable than anything else I've played with.

Go into menu, settings, CyanogenMod settings, user interface, automatic backlight. from there, you can change the light level required to dim the screen. in the edit other levels menu, you can completely customize the levels and even add new thresholds if you want.
I just adjusted the dim level to 24 and changed the lowest light level to 35. No further problems.
Did the screen setting need a re boot? Mine didn't do anything

Screen brightness changed immediately after clicking Save & Apply for me. I found that there's a big change in the light level going from 31 to 32 (32-35 are all the same, didn't go further) and setting it at 32 seems to work well for now. My guess is that there are ranges for any given value of brightness
I couldn't get the Buttons values to change except for turning them off when set to 0. Even a value of 1 sets the buttons to full brightness, which is disappointing as it bothers me how bright they are.
Anyway, thank you jtcarnes for the quick instructions and thanks CM for the feature.
I personally just use this program called bightness profiles and set it to about 30-40% inside and then 100% outside when needed, atually saves more power this way also.

isn't the same!
You can set it to leave the screen on dim when it's plugged in, but I don't think that's what you mean is it?

Wake up brightness keeps resetting

While I'm at home in the evening, I've been trying to turn my brightness down to the lowest level. I tried the system slider and also tried different widgets and apps bit there has been one issue with all of them. Every time I put the phone into sleep/lock, the brightness setting doesn't stay are the lowest setting. (Auto-brightness off). The brightness would reset to 20 - 30%.

There's probably an app you have installed that is messing with it

Go to
Settings --> Display
There's another option called "Auto adjust screen power" which auto adjusts LCD brightness as well.
Just a guess really.. Hope it does something for ya

Stock ROM - Turning off Auto Brightness

Is their a way to turn off auto brightness? It is very annoying seeing the brightness level change so rapidly and I can't believe SE haven't picked up on this problem.
How do you guys manage with it?
Search the market for "Disable Auto Brightness Xperia", you'll need root though!

Because there isn't.
I was just about to say... Cause I'd have it on and I can safely say there's no option for it on STOCK... It's manual control.

in settings/display enable the adaptive brigthness,
that will activate the sensor.
after you set it and its dont change the brigthness values, make a reboot .
