I was trying out the rooted stock evo 4g ROM from this thread today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038701
I believe this is a nono, but can I run the Firmware update when running that rooted ROM? Or will that reflash the OEM bootloader and set me back to S-On?
I am currently running cyanogem m7, but am trying to decide if I want to switch back to the htc sense based OEM ROM.
You know Xhausx has a newer thread with the newest Ota update rolled in right? Why wouldn't you just flash the newer ROM instead of accepting the official Ota which will turn you S-on with locked bootloader?
I was referring to a rooted version of the gingerbread OTA as shown in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038701
I flashed that deodexed ROM and it worked fine, I was just wondering if I could update radios's without overwriting my clockwork recovery if I ran a 'Update Firmware' from within that rooted OEM ROM.
I will take a look at Xhausx's post.
I assume this is the Xhausx thread you were talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110733
So I already have 4.22.651.2 from his post flashed, if I were to run 'Firmware Update' does that update just the radios, or does it update everything: the radios, the recovery, boot, and install the OTA gingerbread ROM?

Well it would definitely update your bootloader and I believe radios as well if it actually let you flash it. I believe when you run Unrevoked forever it runs a script to block flashing of OTA's anyways though. But yeah, the 4.24 ROMs are based off the newest update. Flash the radio combos separately after downloading them as well.

Ok, I have had my Evo for a while and have had it rooted with NAND unlocked and eng bootloader running cyanogenmod nightly builds. That is until yesterday when I got all willy nilly about trying to go to the stock froyo ota.
So this is a description of my willy nilly as far as I remember.
I figured I had to downgrade to 651.1 so that I could apply the incremental update so I followed an unroot back to stock tutorial and reflashed with this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915
But when I tried to get the update and apply it, it failed on signature.
So I tried to follow this guide. So now I am trying to downgrade with RUU method and HTC sync.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743192
This keeps on failing even after several tries but eventually I boot back up to the rom (651.1) and the signature works and I get upgraded to 2.2!
Yay, so now I am at 2.2 with a different (locked) bootloader that comes with this OTA update. I also have stock recovery and no root now. But I also have SU app that I cant remove and some stuff just gets wonky. Like when I try to update google maps, the phone just reboots.
So what do I want?
I want some signed way of just loading the full update 651.6 without root and using the stock recovery. Or maybe an RUU file for this update that will just get me to stock froyo, no SU app none of it.
See the rom I upgraded from probably was modified more than I thought it was and thats why I am having issues.

Oh I did not specify. I was looking for the RUU for 3.26.651.6!
Bump, just checking to see if the RUU has been released for this update?
Ok here it is!!!!

I have an EVO that has S-OFF. I was going to try the steps listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755035
To update to the latest OTA...basically so I don't have to run an RUU and lose all of my settings. I run a fully stock ROM, just rooted and some bloatware removed. I'd like the newest ROM for the Blockbuster app and some of the fixes that people have been reporting.
There's some discussion about the current recoveries not working correctly with the 2.10 partitions. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
Any information surrounding this and whether Clockwork and Amon-Ra are going to release updated official versions?
Like in evo development and its two versions you can flash and not loose root but read before you flash

I guess I'm not following you. I don't want to flash one of the two in evo dev for two reasons:
1. They wipe your phone
2. Radios have to be flashed separately
I've got the OTA downloaded to my phone. I just wanted to use it in Clockwork to update my phone to the latest version. Just wondering if this will work? I know it will overwrite my recovery, but can't I just flash a new recovery later on since I have S-OFF?
The question about the recovery still remains though, like I asked in the OP.
Thanks for any help.

If you have S-OFF then yes you can flash a custom recovery after updating. Your custom recovery must be in a PC36IMG.zip and flashed through the bootloader after the update. I would not install the OTA through a custom recovery though because it contains new radio, hboot, etc. You may need to restore all the bloatware you removed so the OTA can apply all it's patch files correctly instead of giving errors and closing. You may also need to flash stock recovery before trying the OTA.
Why wouldn't you just use titanium backup to save the data you need and then update the latest all in one radio and stock rooted 3.70? It's a lot less hassle.
I just got the new OTA avaliable on my phone but i am already rooted. Looking through xda i found a few links to install the rooted OTA but i am little confused on what i should download or need to do.
ROM version, Radio Version WIMAX version or all 3

You can just flash the updated rooted OTA if you wish. You will have the same thing as everyone else that way, just not the radio and 4g and pri update that comes with it....
Unless you flash sprint lovers version (the all in one)
I personally have a launch day hw003 EVO and I was also already rooted via unrevoked. Unrevoked made an update to their unrevokedforever.zip that now supports the newest radio that comes with 3.70 so what I did was this
Download and flashed newest unrevokedforever.zip
used 3.29 RUU to revert phone back to stock but S-Off stayed on because of unrevoked forever
Accepted OTA update which updated my hboot to 2.10 as well as updated all my radios safely..
Then I insalled the custome version of Amon-Ra recovery meant to work with hboot 2.10
flashed the 3.70 base rom of my choice
Thanks lenny can you by chance help me step by step. My first smartphone don't want to completely screw it up
Hi guys. Could not find a straight up answer to my question due to the fact other people seem to do things different. Here is my question:
My phone came branded from Three UK. Firmware version was 1.26. Anyways i unlocked through HTCDev and flashed custom recovery. Anyways flashed ARHD latest version and that is based on 1.28 update.
Here is my main question.
Since i have done a backup of my stock rom on 1.26 can i just revert back to that and flash stock recovery and just update then OTA once an update is released? Or is there a different process to the whole thing? I know it is best not to flash a RUU since my phone is branded. But does the method i just suggested work? And can i still do it with unlock bootloader or does it need to be locked.
Any answers would be appreciated..Thanks
seriously no one knows the answer if i could restore my backup stock rom, flash stock recovery lock bootloader and then update OTA when my carrier releases it?
I did about the same thing yesterday but for different reasons. I wanted to make sure my radio and hboot were updated.
My process:
I reflashed the nandroid backup of my stock 1.26 rom first
flashed the stock kernel through fastboot
booted into the stock rom
downloaded the 1.28 OTA update and installed it
Reflashed the custom recovery
reflashed my custom rom
I hope it helps. So I didn't re-lock the bootloader first.

Hello all, First of all I want to thank this enormous community for their massive support to the mobile platform.
My question has been answered many times but there is a problem that I am facing while doing it particularly with my phone,
I currently have unlocked bootloader with S-OFF and I am running 4.1.1 Jelly Bean RC3 custom rom by The Albinoman. I am now getting an upgrade and I want to give my phone to my younger sister with stock rom and S-ON with locked bootloader,
I managed to get to Froyo and GB version 4.06.605.3 with RUU/PB31IMG.zip images and got S-ON with locked bootloader. However my system refuses to update to 4.08.605.2 version.
The phone downloaded the update OTA but does not restart to install it. Sometimes when it restarts, It gives the triangle with exclamation error.
I tried flashing the it as update.zip from stock recovery and custom recovery as well, but it wont just install it. Be it S-ON or S-OFF or locked bootloader or unlocked one.
I tried to update to 4.08.605.2 from froyo and gb 4.06.605.3, but to no avail. I also tried running 4.08 RUU with 4.06 installed. The RUU would report a success but the software still wont be updated on the phone.
Do you have any recommendations on what to do?
Your help would be really appreciated

Try to flash back to froyo and keep s-off just in case and fash the newest GB ota

First, were it me I'd keep S-OFF and bootloader unlocked. The phone stays more useful that way, and it's your sister, not a random stranger.
Flash a stock ROM from recovery and call it a day.
That said, the RUUs should flash unless they're trying to downgrade hboot. Perhaps that's the problem?
