[Q]Slow data on AOSP Rom's - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, So I recently decided to test out an AOSP Rom, CM7 to be specific, and I can say that I love it. BUT, there is one problem, my data speeds. For some reason, from my room, with a sense rom my 3g data is about 170-230 kb/s download, but when running either CM7 or Evo-deck, my speed is about 70-100 kb/s.
Baseband v. 2.15.00.05.02
PRI 1.77_003
PRL 60679
Anyone know why the AOSP rom would be so much slower, or what I can do to fix it?

If you go into settings and update your profile and prl that fixes it.
If I've helped you hit the thanks!

You have to flash to a sense based ROM, then nandroid back. Make sure that you update profile after everything else

Ok, so I did that, and now I get 300-400kb/s on sense, and 150-200kb/s on AOSP...

Data Connection On Incredible

My mobile Network (Under Settings-Wireless & Networks ) says "Turning on" and it doesn't turn on the Data Connection. Any idea?
restart your phone?
what rom are you running?
I am having this same issue with the IncDoes Sense "Desire HD" [v0.4] ROM. I am currently running radio 2.15.00.07.28.
I am going to try to upgrade my radio to 2.15.00.09. I'll let you know if that changes anything.

Try to put it in airplane mode, then disable it. that usually works. I only had that issue with the Desire HD rom when i was on .03. It was fixed. If it still wont work, try a *228 option 1, if that fails, try a reflash or another kernel.

This happens to me on Virtuous as well; so it may be a Froyo thing.
Interesting... I wonder how many others are experiencing this. So far it is being reported on IncDoes, Skyraider, and Virtuous.
Is this a newb thing or is it happening to seasoned folks here as well?
I have a bone stock Dinc with 2.2 and the same thing happens to me.. I have to do the whole Airplane mode thing to get it to work.
FWIW, I'm running Virtuous 3.01, with Adryne kernal & first 2.15 radio - I haven't experienced this issue..... yet.
I've had this issue on any rom I have run that was 2.2 based. Including: skyraider sense and vanilla, incdoes desirehd+miui, and ruby.
Pretty sure its a 2.2 thing that nobody has cared to fix since it's more of a nuisance cuz it's fixed with a switch to airplane mode then back.
Would be cool if it was looked into and actually fixed... Although I'd have no clue how...

New update kernel

With the new update for the evo can I now use that kernel on other roms that run 2.3 with sense 2.1 and will it fix the brightness issue?

Depends on the rom! Just from my experience the version MIK tweaked from the MikG v1.0 - Re-Engineered GB Sense 2.1 + 3.0
[Kernel] - 2.6.35.10-htc-kernal_and18-2 - from the OTA:" worked for me on misfits and of course miks rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038967
It is in his OP thread.
I am running Gengersense B4, and I spent today updating to all of the new radios. The last thing I did was find the kernel included in yesterday's Gingerbread OTA, and of course, my Wifi now says "error".
The brightness problem with the leaked GB kernel is fixed, but my wifi no longer works. Anyone else with this problem?
I'm using Sac's Kingdom Rom V4 and the new kernel fixed my brightness issue (also made everything run much smoother).
Ya I updated all that crap and then my phone wouldn't sleep. Sometimes don't fix it if it ain't broke. I will probably try it again though.

Did you update to the 2.15 PRI? I know the 1.90 was quirky with newer baseband versions and was causing wakelock. I went with 2.15 today and also update the radio to 05.02, and I'm not getting any wakelock.

Is your wifi working? I'm frustrated because I finally got this rom fixed up for everyday use, the new radios were working great, and my LAST task to update the kernel fixed the brightness, but made my wifi crap out.
There are 2 kernels out one for the stock ota update and one modified for all other ROMs make sure you have the right one .
Here is a link .

But I think you could find it in that link a few posts up from the mikg ROM.

[Q] [q] update PRL on MTD based rom

I have looked across epic 4g Q n A, android dev, and general. But I can't find a true answer. Is it impossible to update PRL on MTD ROMs? Surely the Epic 4g community isn't the only crew in MTD land. With that theory other android communities must have figured this out already, right? What I can gather, PRL is flashable, but the only way you can get a PRL is from stock read:bml... Perhaps our friendly devs/rom builders should provide links to the latest PRL along with their MTD based rom. Someone please enlighten me

Yes, because it is pure AOSP the necessary communication files are missing. If you pull Sprintandroidextensions or Sprint_app_updater out of a BML ROM it will not update either.
Can the sprint stuff be added to cm7 short of modding the rom?
So I could nan cm7 go to cleangb, update PRL and nan back to cm7 and still have current PRL?

[Q] NS4G modems - it it worth upgrading from EL30?

Hi and thanks upfront for your feedback!
I've been dabbling with all the goodness on this forum and couldn't be happier with my Epic 4G. Currently running the latest CM10.1, and just last week took the plunge and upgraded to the EL30 modem, which has been a big improvement over the stock FC09 one. I can talk in my kitchen now without having to go outside!
I've read a lot of posts concerning the NS4G modem, and everything seems to be positive. So, here are my questions:
Is it worth upgrading to?
How's the battery life?
Are there any real issues, other than the documented stuff in the dev forums?
Thanks again upfront for any and all replies.
I have been happy with it because I noticed my time without service dropped significantly which I thought was a good test for me.

I switch back and forth a few times and I can say battery life really isn't different between the two but my signal and data speeds are much better then the epic modem

Okay, so I took the plunge. I flashed the latest patch zip for CM10.1, and when I booted - NO SERVICE! For some reason, the flash didn't work right, so I Odined the KL2 modem bin, reinstalled the patch, and it's working.
So far, so good - I like the extra goodies from the patch, including the new kernel, and especially the Touch (TWM) recovery. It's pretty slick. Can't wait to see how much better it works around San Diego tomorrow.

That was the best part! Before I had to boot and run the original ROM from Sprint off the SD card to update the PRL - now, it's a menu option, like a "real" (well, stock, anyways) phone!

Normally, running just CM, no modified kernels or a different modem, this is correct. However, the option should be there with the patch to use the ns4g modem.

That depends. The sprint nexus devices have an option in their overlay to have sprint prl and profile updates in. I simply copied that and built. Most cm devices don't have it in but since the nexus obviously has stock aosp it came with that function in the source so it is there. Could probably do that on standard modem too if someone added it.

I'm on CM10.1, but am using the NS4G modem, which requires the nitest kernel and patch found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037. That must be where the options came from. It also added TWRP recovery, and I'm very happy with it.
Thank you Jeffrey, Flast, Xbox, and Mark for the responses. So if I understand correctly I should have the option to update PRL because of the NS4G patch but for some reason I don't. Is it maybe because Mark is on the KL2 modem and I'm on the LF2 modem? I remember reading somewhere that the KL2 modem is from an unofficial leak and the LF2 is from OTA. If someone could shed a little more light on this I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think I may have found the problem. I flashed this patch from Nashdogg with the 12-31 Nitest kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037&page=140 which isn't your patch from the OP. I'm still not sure why Mark has the option to update PRL under settings though unless it was put in the newer patch made by Nashdogg and that's what he flashed.
Edit: Posted the wrong URL and had to update, my apologies
Some of Nash's newer updates don't have PRL and Profile updating in. I think he said he was going to add it, but I will check with him. I haven't made the patches for awhile, since I don't have the phone anymore.
