[Q] Evo 4G running CM7. Can send MMS can not receive MMS - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed my friends Evo 4G with CM7.02
He is using the stock texting app that comes with CM7.
He can send SMS fine. He can receive SMS fine. He can send MMS fine.
He can't receive MMS. They show up as an inline "download" button. Sent MMS show the picture inline. When you hit the download button it says "downloading" and never comes back.
He upgraded to CM7.1.0 and is STILL experiencing the same issue.
Is there a fix for this aside from installing Go SMS pro?

Did he install with a fresh install. Make sure he doesn't remove the stock messaging app as well.
Also, using wifi or 3/4G?

I am the guy with the evo
It doesn't work with wifi or 3/4G. I'm using the stock messaging app installed with CM7.

Howd did you go about your install of the rom?

I followed the walkthrough from xda here which IIRC was something like
Root phone
Install cwm
Clear 3 caches
Install rom
Reboot
Reinstall apps and accounts

I was having this issue for a long time and wiping/reloading seems to only temporarily fix the issue. I finally found a method elsewhere that works perfectly.
-Download Root Explorer (remember you have a 15 minute refund period on the Market)
-Navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
-Press and hold on the telephony.db and delete it
-Reboot the phone and voila!
I tried downloading an old message and it wouldn't download so I had a friend send me an MMS and *boom* I was able download his image as well as the old ones that I was never able to get.

I think he means ChompSMS and Handcent SMS
I did wipe everything prior to installing the booted stock 2.2 froyo.( the official version, not the leaked one)

Well, I was able to fix the problem. I'm almost sure its due to error on my end by trying to delete Sprint stock apps. although I can't say for sure which one I wasn't suppose to delete. Anyway, if anybody ever run into a similar problem here is how I fixed it.
1. I backed up all my app.
2. boot into recovery (clockmode) and wipe everything twice. (user data , and cache)
3. re-installed Froyo (the rooted version), and rebooted.
4. restored all my app. via Titanium backup.
5. verified my latest radio, and winmax. (didn't needed to reinstall these two)
6. tested MMS with Handcent MMs, and Chomp MMs, and with the original htc mms and they all worked.
I would like to thank to all that reply to my thread at my hour of need. hope the above will help another Evo user.

Ah-ha, I had this exact problem!! And I solved it like this!!
1. Delete ALL APN's from your device!!
2. Input the APN settings from O2 (Here: http://mobilereviews.o2.co.uk/devices/device.jsp?deviceId=651&tab=8&step=2&settingId=3201 )
3. Press so the green dot is selected (This APN will take care of Internet Access AND MMS, no need for 2)
4. Reboot your device.
5. When your phone starts up again, go to Messaging, Press Menu and go to Settings
6. Scroll down to Custom User Agent
7. Select iPhone (3.0)
(Optional) 8. If you are using Handcent (or another SMS App, you will have to change the User Agent in there to match).
PLEASE NOTE!!
If you are using Handcent, you may not be able to download MMS pictures via Handcent itself. If I receive a MMS I need to go to the Stock Messaging app and download it via that!!
Hope it goes well for you and let me know if it works!

I tried LOADS of APN's (including ones which came with various ROMs) and the one from O2 is the only one I have had to work.
Hi Mate
Instructions seemed to work ok but its a bit of a pain that you need to download the mms manually in the stock app first
not sure why the download button within Handcent doesnt work!
but none the less, thanks for the iphone 3 tip
cheers

Synergy Rls1 MMS not working

Has anyone else had an issue with this. I have tried for 3 days to fix it. Please help!
Sent from my SYNERGIZED OG4G using XDA app.
Please post what steps you have taken to fix your issue. It will help others troubleshoot. First thing I recommend is opening mms in Titanium Backup and wiping the data, then reboot and test. If you would be more descriptive with your questions you have a better chance of getting help.
Here is a nice video.

No, please post it but ONLY if you have it on hand easily. We can search for it. That thread is so popular its long and hard to follow unless you can dedicate some time to it every day.
Thanks for the heads up on it.
Update: Found it - this may help

Handcent won't work unless the stock messenger app does so lets just deal with stock for now. Like I said earlier, try uninstalling it then reinstalling it.
Switch R/W to R/O, try moving Mms.apk from /system/app to your SD card with Root Explorer. Back out of the Root Explorer and Hot Restart your phone. When your phone boots up the messenger app will be gone.
Move the Mms.apk from your SD card back to /system/app, switch R/W to R/O to first. Long press on the Mms.apk check off all of the permissions but leave "Special Permission" alone. Switch R/O to R/W and back out of the app and Hot restart your phone. The stock messenger app will be back. Try sending or receiving an mms.

Sorry I haven't had much time. Been wrkin like crazy. I haven't had a chance to try to fix it. I deleted handcent and that stopped the duplicate txt problem as it was a glitch in the app that has yet to be fixed. My txt and mms only come through when I pwr cycle my phone. This is what's annoying. Will try to solve the issue in the AM. Thanks for all input...

Had to do this for Kingdom 7/23 but it seems there is an apn issue. Download apn backup/restore from market and use the fix from here.

I am having the same issue. I haven't been able to resolve at this time. I tried wiping data, then removing the app with Titanium. I then reflashed the synergy rom and still no luck. I looked at connection under messaging and all fields were blank so I tried manually putting in the info. User= Production, mms protocol =WAP 2.0 and mmsc= htttp://mms.sprintpcs.com. I have went to system and updated my profile. I backed up apn, checked for errors and then restored. At this point I'm stuck. I am going to try another of the methods below. Will keep watching this thread and post if something works.
So I rolled back to rooted stock and tested mms. Works fine. extracted mms from root and saved to sd/ rebooted to saved synergy back up. mms gone again. wiped data/uninstalled mms. installed extracted from stock mms. still no go! Next step wipe phone/reflash synergy/I cannot remember if mms was working with synergy at first or not. Used titanium to restore data and that may be where issue occured. If anyone has success, please post
I'm in the same boat, ladies and gents. APN settings are correct, done the Profile update, reinstalled the ROM numerous times. Stock Rooted ROM relays MMS fine, boot into recovery, wipe Davlik Cache, install Synergy, update Radios, reboot into ROM, and all is well BUT the MMS. Profile update, no luck, APN backup / restore, no luck. Cleared cache and Data from Messages app. Running out of ideas here, and I don't want to revert to my old nandroid of the rooted stock ROM.
Welcome to my world. Got a friend at work who just installed synergy God-mode the other day and his mms is working fine. checked his settings and the only difference I could find was in settings:connection- the name said Sprint instead of Production. Changed mine to that and still a no go. My sister was trying to send me a picture of the oceanfront in Florida and ended up having to email it to me. I love this rom, but this could be a deal breaker. Moved all backups to pc and am about to flash a "virgin" (as apposed to resoring the backup) synergy to my phone and test mms before restoring any data with Titanic. If it works I will only restore totally 'unrelated' apps one at a time and not all system data. Here we go again. Will post results.
Here's the latest....wiped data, wiped cache, wiped Devlik..reinstalled entirely new copy of synergy rom and mms working! Sent pix to husbands phone..he got it..sent another back to me... I got it. No extra apps installed or restored just yet. Very carefully restoring apps but no system data. Will post if still working.
Broke down, reloaded the ROM after doing a factory reset and cache wipe, restored a handful of Apps, and it works. Ti Backup, thanks for the help!
And more Thanks due to Sherry.

[Q] MMS transaction is failed

I am running Starsky rom 1.4 and I am not able to receive or send MMS messages using either stock messaging app or handcent. I flashed back to stock EC05 and everything works fine. I would like to stay on Starsky but this MMS thing is a deal breaker. Anyone have an idea on a fix?
The error message says "MMS transaction is failed" and something about HTTP 403.
Note that MMS works fine when on WIFI just not 3G/4G.
pull the mms.apk from another gingerbread rom and replace it with he one in /system/app using root file explorer
Just an update to this, I bailed on Starskyrom and just went with ACS ICS v5.

[FIXED] GO SMS Pro Group Text/Messaging

So on my NS4G, I used GO SMS Pro for group texts. However, on this phone, it seems like the MMS (group texts show up as MMS) isn't being downloaded on 3G. I can't send group texts either on 3G. However, on Wifi, it works fine. Is there a set of APN that needs to be changed or something for Sprint?
Not sure why it would work fine on NS4G on Sprint, but not this phone.
Thanks
EDIT: Got it fixed. Somehow the APN was screwed up. Had to delete the old APN and install the correct one. Everything is working as it should now.

No, I only use GVoice for voicemail. I use my regular cell # for texts/sms/mms. With Go SMS Pro, when you send group texts, it gets converted to MMS. My problem is that on 3G, it doesn't work; the texts never get sent. However, on wifi, it works fine.
Seems like mms works on stock messaging app on 3G, but with stock, you can't send group texts. On Go SMS Pro, mms only works on wifi, but not on 3G.
Can anyone else try sending mms using Go Sms Pro on 3G and see if it works?
Thanks

Could you post a step by step tutorial for this by any chance?
I'm having the exact same problem and I'm not sure on how to reinstall an APN
I got it from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30536253&postcount=2
This is what I did:
1. Install APN Backup and Restore from the play store
2. Make it an system app (either use root explorer or other file manager to move it there and make sure the permission is set)
3. Reboot
4. Open the app, click menu, and disable ICS check
5. Backup the APN (this way you have it backed up just in case)
6. Delete APNs
7. Use this APN that is from GS3 Sprint to restore APNs
8. Reboot
Hopefully that should fix the issue. I'm not sure if there's some default APN from LGOG, but I don't have that one.
If it does not fix your problem, you can always restore your older APN that you backed up.

Not sure if this fixed anyone else's Go SMS Pro group messaging mms problem but it didn't fix mine. However I did find that if I just turn off LTE (4G) and just use CDMA (3G) group messaging works just fine. Hope this helps.
