[Q]How to flash radio? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please can someone explain me how to flash a radio?
And also what radio should I flash to get GPS on CM7? Does it matter where do I live? (Croatia)
Thank you

Uses ROM manager and get recovery 2.5 and flash it from there.

So I need to download radio and put to SDcard and in recovery go to install from zip or something like that?
And also, what radio?

Download radio zip
Put on SD card
Start ROM Manager
Click Reboot into Recovery
Flash from there
I recommend this radio: http://rom.tat.tw/wildfire/wildpuzzlerom/radio/Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10.zip

I have flashed it but it did not fix the problem... But thanks anyway

I found out in this topic here:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/20578-gps-doesnt-work/
that some people fixed issues with this radio:
Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25
Can I also try to install it? I mean is it the right version?

because this rom is bad. so you cant solve problems with this rom

Yes, if 20.10 works for you (i.e. is a right versiob), 19.25 will work as well.

Thank you all
I flashed this other version and I did not belive it works, because when I turned it on there was no icon in notif. bar. But then I have installed CoPilot Live and actually it works!

i'm just about to flash a radio for the first time - basically to get copiliot working. found new radio - flashing...will update with progress

My normal fix for gps issues is to flash the 19.25 radio, test gps and then reflash the 20.10 radio and its never failed me yet.

Note that you may need to check which version of CWM you are using.. To reflash the radio you may need to downgrade it...
Or use this.
Flash this in your current recovery, it will give you a temporary 2.5 recovery that goes away on reboot.
Flash the radio inside the 2.5 recovery

Don't use ROM manager, use your normal recovery.
Otherwise yes, that's how you flash a radio.

Hmm, do you remember which version? There are different versions for gingerbread and ics. If you have the correct version something might have gone wrong with the install. This looks a bit like gapps is the problem here...

[Q] What is a radio?

Hi, I have the Koodo T989D and I was thinking of flashing a custom ROM but I also read that you need a radio? Can someone else in detail what it is? What is the best radio? I'm using my unlocked T989D on WIND MOBILE in Canada. Thanks!
Most of the roms available here do not have the radio included in it, meaning that the version of the radio (System Setings -> About phone -> Baseband version) will not be overwritten.
If you flash a rom and find after that the phone disconnects from wifi or does not connect with your service provider, it is safe to keep a radio zip file handy.
You can find most of the available radios for your phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
There is no "good" radio. It depends on your location.
Fell free to test all of them and see which one performs better.

Alright so my phone is a Koodo T989D, would I be able to install lets say a T-Mobile T989? Also I see a lot of radio for Telus,T-Mobile etc.. which one would be the newest and better one compared to call those like the multiple ones.
i would say to use a TELUS radio because TELUS is Canadian it should get you a better reception

I have the same phone and am using it for Mobilicity. I'm using Liquid Smooth RC7 right now with UVLH1 radio. This combination works well for me. I know RC 9 is released but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. RC7 is working perfect for me so I am reluctant to flash the new version.
But just as others have said, try different radios to see which one works best for you. Everyone is different depending on where they live. Just remember to Nandroid it first before trying anything.

Ok, how do I flash it? My phone is rooted. So if I flash the TELUS one and follow the process, my phone can't be bricked right if only I did a wrong step.

Before you flash anything, remember to back up your stock rom first in case you ever need to change it back for warranty purposes or in case your messed up somewhere along the way.
Once its backed up,then you start to flash the rom of your choice. Just follow the instructions laid out by the dev. Your radio wont be affected when you flash a rom. You can flash the radios separately afterwards. I use Cwm without any issues but others use TWRP. Use what you are comfortable with. You shouldnt soft brick your phone as long as you flash the ones deigned for our phones.

Ok, so how do I backup this rom? Also if I want to still use this stock koodo rom, can you show me the step by step to install the TELUS radio? Right now I have the koodo radio but if I install the TELUS radio, it will change the radio by default to TELUS right?

1.Reboot the phone into recovery and backup current ROM.
2.Pick a radio from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400 and download zip file.
3. Reboot into recovery and flash zip file.\
Check to see if reception and data speeds improve. If not, try another radio until you find one that works for you.

Ok, first I don't know how to backup the current rom? I have this recovery file and the stock koodo rom. Second I saw people on youtube wipe the cache and other things. Do I need to do that as well? If so what else do I have to wipe?

So I just installed the TELUS radio and it didn't work so I wanted to revert back but whenever I shut down, the capacative touch buttons on it won't turn off which causing me to take out the battery to turn back on the phone. Why is this happening?
What do you mean it didn't work? Are you not getting any reception or data? Did you check your APN settings? You can always restore the backup if you remembered to do so before you flashed the radio. Or you can flash the Koodo radio listed in the radio link from my previous post.
Not sure why the buttons stay lit. I never had that before. Maybe a different radio doesn't work with stock rom. Try to flash a custom one. As stated before, try Liquidsmooth or CM10 Stable.

Nothing confusing. The kernel might solve some reboot issues. If you did not flash the kernel but the phone rebooted then no need to flash kernel.

Go into the bootloader (turn phone off, then boot back up using volume down + power), and it will say which radio you have there.

That error is to do with an old recovery. Flash the radio.img with fastboot instead, it's much safer.
- Extract the radio.img file from the zip
- I strongly recommend to find and verify the md5 sum of the radio.img before you flash it, a bad radio flash will lead to a proper brick (search for a program called 'md5check' or similar.
- Use this guide to flash it (skip the adb part, read the fastboot bits)

If it says baseband unknown and you still get a signal and can make phone calls, then you are okay. If you can't make calls, or it bothers you that it says unknown even after flashing the radio again you probably should clean flash a new ROM.
