[Q] Syndicate frozen 1.2 cant install sprint apps - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded and flashed Syndicate frozen 1.2 (coming from 1.1.1) and the Sprint apps are gone and cannot load them from the old zip files from version 1.1.1. Also the sprint network Fix.zip wont work on 1.2 either.
I tryed four times
the actual 1.2 update works great but there are 3 killer sprint apps and plus Allshare app that wont work with it
can someone tell me if its user error or if the new fix files just arent ready yet?

Most likely the files just aren't updated yet...check out acsyndicate.net for updates.
P.S I just had to reply because the sad face next to the title made me soo sad!!

U have to install them with root explore. Push them to system/app

or wait for syndicate frozen rom 1.3!!! Which will be out in the next few days!

Any files that are compatible could be manually pushed with adb or something like RootExplorer. Es file manager might work too.
The sprintfix will cause you issues, as it simply replaces the framework-res.apk. SFR 1.2 incorporates maddoggins 6 lock screen mod, which affects policy.jar and framework-res.apk. Framework-res is also most of your phones theme, so you'll be swapping that out until they release an updated Sprint fix. Allshare requires, I believe, mediauploader.apk and dlna.apk, both which I think ACS removes.

Also note that if you are not using Touchwiz launcher a lot of apps and widgets and wallpaper will not be available to use although you have installed them.

Pros And Cons Of DeOdex Over Odex?

What will I gain from deodexed roms?
What will I loose?
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
odex - more free space, faster boot, a little snappier.
deodex - customization (tweaks, themes ,fonts, etc.)
thats pretty much the big picture...
deodexed is preferred because u can just customize the phone in many ways... odex leaves u pretty much stuck at the same place u would be on a stock rom.
i do think this belongs in another thread.
Odexed - Unthemeable and MARGINALLY faster.
DeOdexed - Themeable and more space in system.
I really couldn't tell a difference as far as speed.
So far the biggest difference I can tell is that I had an odexed rom and I just flashed the latest update deodexed and titanium backup couldn't restore 90% of my data... I'm hoping this is an odexed vs deodexed thing and not a corrupt backup that passed verification thing..
To me the biggest advantage of going with an Odexed version is you can download updates from the Marketplace for the included apps when they become available. For example, if Google pushes an update to GMail or Sprint pushes an update to the Voicemail app, and you're on a deodexed ROM, you can't get it directly from the Marketplace....

Yea, I get updates all the time for my apps...
As far as downloading/updating apps it doesn't matter if it is deodex our odex; it depends on wether the rom is signed our not as far as I know.

I see. Apologies for spreading misinformation, apparently all the de-odexed ROMs I used previously we not re-signed then, or something.

The issue you are seeing is actually associated to ROM developers signing their apks with test keys.
Upon updating in the market, Android verifies the signing authority and if they don't match what they are in the Market, it fails to update.
DeOdexed or Odexed, If they are signed properly, things will update

I just flashed the new DeOdexed version as well and the big difference I can see is that I lost 35mb of app storage space. This is a bit of a issue for me. As soon as the Odex version is out I am going to reflash.

If you used the Deodexed rom that was released yesterday, the version of Busybox was the culprit for me. The rom came with some version 1.71 or something Busybox, and when I'd try to restore my backups, my phone would just reboot. I let Titanium install it's own Busybox (1.60 I believe) and it worked fine.
Everything updates....
just fine from the market. No issues here.

[Q] Galaxy S Froyo Update (Official): No Have Ocean Wave Live WallPaper

Any way to get the live wallpaper from 2.1 back?
True, there appears to be a few missing LWPs...
I believe it should be possible to get them back, as I've seen other threads taking LWPs from captivate (or was it vibrant, cant remember) for our i9000. I cbf trying to figure it out atm though.
Yeah it's very strange that they remove good things in new firmwares 0_0
For the Ocean waves wallpaper google this: ocean-waves-415. You can simply download it in the phone memory and than install.
I tried 2-3 other apk but this is the only one working.

the easy way to get livewallpaper with doc 7.6.2
JPA & JPO V7 Base to Medium Package (android developpers)
JPA & JPO V7 Base to Full Package (android developpers)
extract both of them
in fact if you install them they are ignored and nothing is installed, but if you extract and copy the .apk into the /system/app folder they work very well
copy the required apk into system/app
and here you go you have em all, including installation of other livewall papers, like I have purchased Aquarium.

[Q] Has anyone gotten the odexer tool to work with eb13 syndacite?

After recently upgrading to the new syndicate rom, I tried a few times to odex the rom, via the on click method here at xda. I keep getting stuck on the black samsung screen. I had the drivers installed, and I made sure my media scanner wasn't running. I tested my phone throughout this process and everything was fine until I would odex the rom. Maybe the no carrier iq has something to do with it? This new rom is really fast but I can't help but want to see it odexed.
Same thing happened to me with the new Syndicate ROM.... the developer of the odexer tool has been busy working on the ROM kernel, but says he will put time into updating the tool soon hopefully. Not much we can do right now I don't think, a few others have had the same results as well.

Srf 1.2 and themes

What themes are compatable with srf 1.2 and genocide on eco5.
I guess I don't understand, in the apps and themes section some of the themes say eco5 meaning I should be able to use them. So for example the asc honeycomb fusion explosion says eco5 but it says I need a rom that is deodexed, I am a noob what does that mean?

Well, I don't know the exact definition but most of the ROMs are deodexed to allow sustom themes and modifications to be added. I don't believe you can add themes to Odexed ROMs. I may be wrong here but you are definately good to go on SRF 1.2

WHAT IS AN ODEX FILE?
In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution.
THEN COMES DEODEX
Deodexing is basically repackaging of these APKs in a certain way, such that they are reassembled into classes.dex files. By doing that, all pieces of an application package are put together back in one place, thus eliminating the worry of a modified APK conflicting with some separate odexed parts.
In summary, Deodexed ROMs (or APKs) have all their application packages put back together in one place, allowing for easy modification such as theming. Since no pieces of code are coming from any external location, custom ROMs or APKs are always deodexed to ensure integrity.

Yes, there are other ROMs...
There are indeed custom ROMs out there...I am just offering help for those folks like me who are rooted but wish to continue using the stock ROM and just tweak it a bit by stripping it down and removing bloat. Installing a full custom ROM is a separate matter...

Backup/Restore Suggestions...
The first thing I like to do immediately after rooting a new phone and making a ClockworkMod backup is to use Root Explorer to then make two copies of the following folders prior to stripping out any apps: System/App folder, System/Media folder, and the ClockworkMod/Backup folder (Which at this point contains a ClockworkMod backup of the original, unstripped stock ROM.)
I like to keep one copy of each of these three folders on the SD card itself, and put the second copy of each on my computer at home as a safe, redundant backup.
Then, if you ever want to restore any app that you had previously stripped out, you simply use Root Explorer to copy and paste the app (and it's .odex file) from your original copy of the System/App folder on the SD card to the System/App folder on the phone, and then (if necessary) change the app and it's .odex's permissions to match the correct settings that all of the other apps and .odex's are set to: Long-press the .apk or .odex, select "permissions", then make sure the permissions match up exactly with the other system .apk's permissions. Reboot the phone, and the app will be restored, good to go! (I like to reboot to recovery and clear the cache and Dalvik cache also...)
Cheers!

Google "Epic 4G Touch Root Zedomax" and go to the XDA forum thread where you can follow the instructions to use Odin to install a (mostly) stock kernel with Superuser added to it, or Google "Android Creative Syndicate" and go to their website where you can find another Kernel to load the same way that has Superuser and ClockworkMod in it...Both will get you rooted, and there is a stock ROM (EG30) out there also that you can install with Odin in case anything goes wrong and you have to roll everything back to stock...(I did this once also.)
I am using Zedomax's Kernel right now...once installed it shows as "2.6.35.7"

depends on what you mean by "effective"
although they are frozen, they still take up a lot of space in the /system partition.

Those are mostly still correct. I thought removing Google talk messed other stuff though so I wouldn't delete that. When I run a stock setup I only delete stuff I know for sure I don't use. This includes the Samsung widgets and apps, Sprint apps, and the randoms like nova and nascar.
