If you have a problem with yahoo syncing or working with your IMAP settings then read= after alot of wasted time I couldnt get to work with IMAP settings I found a work arround to be able to use POP instead without yahoo plus. Sign in to your email, on the top where it says "hi (your email)" left click and click account in menu. It asked me to login again and took me to account info. scroll down and click "Set language, site, and time zone" set regional site as "Yahoo asia" and when you click on anything else it asks you to save, save. Now you can go into mail options and "pop and fowarding". Now you can setup a yahoo account with the default pop settings!!! and Yahoo mail works again on "mail app" !!

can you share to us the steps you made to make yahoo work on your htc desire? I'm a very frustrated user right now coz i have been reading a lot of suggestions but none of them worked for me. Btw i use the IMAP and not the POP
Hi,
When I turned on the phone for the first time and went through the setup process I just had to enter my Yahoo address and password and my mail was setup automatically.
Alternatively, you could try this:
1. go to your Yahoo mail inbox as usual on your pc.
2. click "Options" (top right hand corner) then "More Options from the drop down box.
3. Click "POP & Forwarding" on the new page
4. click "Setup or edit POP & Forwarding" on new page
5. click "View POP settings" on new page
6. your POP Access settings are displayed
Sorry but don't know about IMAP.
Hope this helps .....
Is there anyway I can the HTC email widget to display my googlemail account as I've been trying to set it up bit without success?
I couldn't use theHTC mail widget for gmail either. I could setup hotmail no problem. Is it possible that gmail must be used through the gmail app only?
Looks like which is a shame as I prefer the HTC email layout
add account (active sync)
email address - enter your full email address (eg. [email protected])
server address "m.google.com"
domain - leave blank
username - enter your full email address (eg. [email protected])
password - your password
select SSL
hope this helps
it is possible to use the HTC widget for gmail yea.
First you have to go into gmail on your pc then settings (top right)
Then choose "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
Then choose "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)" or "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on" deppending on what you want.
Then hit "save changes" at the bottom of the page.
now on the desire:
put the widget down.
choose to manually enter settings.
All default settings should be fine, just enter your gmail user and pass.
Then all should be good =]
I've tried both comments above, I get to the screen asking what data I want to sync but when i click finish setup, I just get an error message saying failed to create the account, pls try again later

You want the pop3 option on your phone, not the activesync one. Just put in your google username/password. Make sure you have a data connection to the internet (3g/wifi).
I suggest using IMAP. Add the mail widget to one of the homescreens then tap to make an account. Choose pop/IMAP and you want IMAP.
Then add in your gmail (googlemail email and password. Make sure you are connected via wifi or your mobile connection and you should be all set....

Well, i said pop3 but yes, it's techinically the Other(pop3/imap) option. If you are setting up gmail then you don't have to choose manual, and therefore you don't actually select either pop3/imap, just enter your username and password...
Nope, neither of these work either
Try putting in "googlemail" instead of "gmail" where your email address and username goes.
That seemed to solve my problem.
I was putting googlemail but tried gmail and all working ok now so cheers

no problem. strange that some people need to use gmail and others need to use googlemail to get this to work
Gmail IMAP working like a charm for me.
Thinkin may stick to the gmail app now though as tend to get notified of new emails quicker then the HTC widget.
I have one gmail account through the gmail app and another gmail account through the HTC mail via ActiveSync. both push through as fast as each other imo.

Hey All,
Had the desire for a couple of weeks now and I must say I'm impressed with it, as most of you are as well.
I've come across the following very irritating problem though:
My primary e-mail address is hotmail. Been using it for years and years and I've never had the need to change to gmail. Having switched to android now I understand that I can't sync the phone to hotmail. I have it working on pop which is 'fine' but I want proper syncing of mail and calendars which is not supported.
Fair enough, I thought this was the time I'm supposed to switch to gmail. When I booted the phone up for the first time I was asked for a gmail account for google maps, etc. and I just used one I had created a while back. Now that I'm looking to migrate to gmail completely in order to benefit from syncing, etc. I want to change this e-mail address to another gmail one.
Has anyone managed to do this without doing a factory reset on the desire??
I've tried:
i. Changing the gmail password from a pc and rebooting the phone - it just says it failed to sign in and prompts for the new password, won't let you change e-mail address though.
ii. Clearing all cache's from google related application - gtalk, gmail, maps, gapps, etc. - This doesn't work either as somehow the account information is still held.
iii. Creating a secondary e-mail address and try get everything to use it instead then remove the primary one - didn't manage either. I changed google maps, gmail and the calendar app to use the new e-mail address but it still won't let me delete the other one as it says it's being used by some other app!
Any help would be much appreciated... I really don't feel like going through a factory reset and installing everything again!
Thanks!
Go to "Menu" - "Settings" - "Accounts & Sync", tap on the Google account en tap on "Remove account". (Go back to all accounts and you can add a new Google account.)

On this subject, my advice to anyone is to get their own domain name and then use Google Apps for Domains.
At present this is what I do for my email, but if in a few years time something better than Gmail comes along, chances are I can repoint my domain to a new mail service and thus keep my email address in perpetuity.
Regards,
Dave

Forgot to mention I tried this as well but it won't let me remove it as it says the account is being used by some application
Really frustrating!
I got this same problem as this old post, but can not find the solution....does anyone know the answer as time has moved on and maybe it is an available solution.
My issue is that I just flashed LeeDrOid 2.3b&c to my Desire. I entered my HOTMAIL e-mail details as the first address at the set up prompt. Now i can not findout how to delete that account.
It seems that the whole Android E-mail setup and operation is not really as good as Windows Mobile! or its operator error ;-)
For my Sync'd HOTMAIL I'm currently using TouchDown and set the server name to 'm.hotmail.com' this thirdparty software allows full syncronisation to my Hotmail account both ways including any folders that i choose, apart from the deleted bin on my Webmail does not get emptied if i delete all from the TouchDown application on my Desire.
On my Gmail i have created my account in the Exchange option and used m.gmail.com for the server, whilst this gives me a view of all the account folders all of them show "no mail" even though i have set the Receive days to 30 days and know that I have e-mails in the folders that are newer than 30 days old.
I really would like a fully operational integrated IMAP set up for both my Gmail accounts (i have 2 account) and one HOTMAIL account, ideally using the built in Gmail and "standard Mail" programs that come with FROYO Sense.
So anyone know the answer to achieving this?
i) How to delete my original Hotmail account entered on start up of my new ROM.
ii) Is it possible to set up withing the Sense builtin applications for Exchange Gmail and also for Exchange Hotmail so that i can do away with hte TouchDown application?
Thanx for any assistance on this.
so I have a work calendar that I keep track of for work and helps get me through my day. I have it currently set up as an exchange syncing only the calendar option checked off. It works without a hitch, however when I goto my mail app (stock) when I choose combined view it will automatically start downloading the emails to my phone. I cant get rid of the emails I have to remove the account and re add, however this issue repeats itself every time I start up the mail app in combined view.
anyone know a way around this ?
What happens if you uncheck this email account sync in the Mail App Account Settings.
Mail App > Settings > Accounts > Account settings > Accounts & sync.
If this doesn't work, you could set the "Update schedule" to "Manual" and "Message size limit" to "Headers only"

Ive already had email sync unchecked, I only have calendar checked to sync. I have just tried setting the update schedule to "Manual" but once I select combined inbox it will auto re-download the email messages from that account.

Same situation here. I couldn't find a solution, so I got used to ignoring them. Probably not the solution you're after but I'm interested if anybody else finds a work around.
couldn't you guys use any other mail client?
true, that would be an option. Any good third party email clients worth considering ?

I don't use it myself but some people like K9 Email client. Team Blackout has themed it too. I'm sure you should be able to find one that suits you there are so many on the Play Store.
I am currently trying Bluemail. I've used Maildroid, it's good. I haven't tried Cloudmagic yet.
If you all haven't noticed by now, you are greeted by a nice "Your browser isn't supported" message when trying to add a Gmail account in the Mail app by using the Google option after a hard reset or a first time use. Fear not, a simple workaround exists.. Upon inspecting my Gmail settings on my Windows 10 machine, I noticed that it simply adds the account by setting it up as IMAP.
I tried the following and it worked flawlessly on my phone:
Open the Account settings in the Mail app
When you see the "Choose an account" menu, click "Other account" which is right above Advanced setup
Enter your full gmail email address and password. IF YOU HAVE 2-FACTOR AUTH ENABLED, YOU MUST CREATE AN APPLICATION PASSWORD AND USE THAT INSTEAD
From there you should start getting e-mail
There are a few caveats to this approach though. It seems that this method will ONLY allow you to sync Email.. No Calendar or contacts (If someone figures out some voodoo to make that happen, I will update the OP).
Thanks Google.

The Outlook app should send the correct User-Agent, it's a simple fix from Microsoft.
Till then
To add your Google account on your Lumia 950, please follow the steps below:
01. Go to "Settings".
02. Tap on "Accounts".
03. Tap on "Your email and accounts".
04. Tap "Add an account".
05. Tap "Other accounts POP, IMAP".
06. Enter your Email address and Password.
07. Tap the Sign in button.
08. Once you're signed in Open the Edge browser.
09. Visit gmail.com and log in to your Google account.
10. Open the message with the subject "Blocked sign-in attempt for security reasons"
11. Tap on the Allow Access button.
12. You will be forwarded to the Google security setting page. "Under the Access for less secure apps", select "Turn on".
Wait for the settings on the phone to update, and your Google account will work on your phone.

I've had the enable security for less secure apps enabled for a few years now (as that's why I don't get the e-mail message). That won't work for me. From looking at the post, it looks like it's doing the same exact thing I'm doing... Adding a Gmail account using IMAP.
I don't use Gmail, and no one should because Outlook.com is way better, but you could try adding the account using Advanced setup and Google's setting from Step 2: Set up your client https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en

-_-
Realize, that this STILL puts us at the same exact steps to add Gmail using IMAP.
Set my mail as IMAP too... for now, until google decides to fix authentication.
Until then no calendar, and bookmarks.
I exported google contacts to outlook contacts. I can check my calendar on my nexus 7, but I am writing new events to outlook calendar. and for bookmarks I don't know why I can't import bookmarks from chrome to edge on windows 10 pc to sync them between pc and mobile
Also heard some people using iCloud to sync their data from google servers to windows mobile

Yes, but there might be a difference in the server settings.
