I had a moto droid, the headphone jack was defective. It would work as long as you didn't move the device around. It got worse after the warrantee ended and stopped working altogether.
My new incredible 2 does something similar. I have it in my pocket with nothing else and the jack constantly pops out and pauses my music.
If you rotate the jack like you would while walking it pops out. Is this model line defective like the droid or is it my device.

It's a known issue with history of threads on this forum.
Thanks for the reply the other posts were about music stopping, wasn't searching for the right terms. I was googling for some time and all the posts weren't coming up about the Inc2, they were about "incredibles" with 2 mentioned somewhere.
I was going nuts. I was thinking the same thing was happening with the incredible 2, that happened with my droid. I had purchased one new and one used ebay incredible 1 and they both had touchscreen / screen defects, the owners hadn't noticed. I was really bummed out with all my problems.
Then I said screw it and bought a contract free incredible 2 for way too much at verizon. Don't like 2 year contracts always got 1 year contracts. Was thinking about returning it until I read the posts you provided. I filed down the tip of the headphone jack and that seemed to make it stay in.
Thanks!

I feel your pain there.
One thing I've found useful is if I can't get a good result with "incredible 2" in my search terms, I'll throw in "incredible s" instead. Something else to try is in your search terms, throw "incredible 2" in quotes, or try some regex (google search supports some regex syntax).
I have an issue where if I have haedphones plugged in and I listen to pandora, notifications come through the headphones and the external speaker as well. Its really annoying at work, and the phone is set to vibrate or silent before plugging in the headphones.

HTC implemented a lot of custom media controls that seems to be pretty broken. There may be a setting somewhere to address this. I have the same issue using bluetooth (I hear the alert tone on my phone then car speakers).
If you unlink your volume settings and turn alerts volume down it still doesn't work. You can download Audio Manager and then set your alert tones to mute and it won't make a noise and you only get the LED blink.

Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. With regards to your inquiry, Please note that we didn’t receive any problems with HTC desire volume ,however you can search over android market for a 3rd party application to raise the device’s volume Thank you once again for your continued patronage. Best regards
anyone know any apps k and r u happy with the volume , please contact theme if your not let theme know about this issu
Thanks
You aren't very clear. Is your problem the quality or the volume? And is your phone branded or not? Branded phones are sometimes limited in volume.
i am not happy about the low handsfree rear speaker volume either. the phone ear piece speaker is ok volume wise. but the handsfree speaker is pretty crap and might probably take the crown for the worst handsfree speaker on the market. i have two desire phones and both are the same. loads of similar complaints on many forums (moneysavingexpert, avforums, three blog and others). htc must be having the heads in the sand if they havent heard about it. i think it is a deliberate denial of an obvious poor handsfree speaker, htc had some chap called dave who said he was following the posts on three blog and replied about poor stocks etc so HTC is aware about this issue, they are just dishing out denials or htc tech guys need to have their ears checked ASAP.
just put anyother phone or media player next to the htc desire and play the same sound / music via all the devices and htc desire will most probably take the crown for having the poorest rear speaker. at high volumes (which one needs anyway if one wants to hear in anywhere where the background noise is present) there is a lot of treble noise. on my archos 605 if i keep half the volume, for the same clip i wont get as good a volume on my desire at full volume. it is pretty easy to miss the notifications when out and about because one didnt hear the notifications.
the poor volume is obvious while using google navigation. while tomtom 760T has a great volume, but when i use the desires speakers for navigation voice, i have to keep the music off and can get tricky in busy traffic as sometimes the volume isnt enough or is barely enough. this might not be a problem when using car stereo with bluetooth but my car stereo does not have bluetooth or an input socket in the front as it is a few years old car.
the notifications volume must be with some internal settings i canty access as i have tried adjusting everything but it does not make a difference, or much of it. but the new yahoomail app i got from the market has a much much better volume that is easily audible. for the other notifications i downloaded the 'car mode' app that makes the notifications louder by using the rear speaker, i guess otherwise it uses the earpiece speaker by default, hence the low volume for the notifications. the volume is ok when inside and when it is quiet but just not enough when out and about. i didnt have a problem with speaker volumes with any of my handsets in the last decade, i am just adding that my ears are fine as they get checked by occupational health at work!

I decided to sell My phone,Its useless as a media player
No support no update Thank You HTC
I bought 2 HTC Desire phones for me & my wife. Both of them have the most lowest & weakest speakerphones I have witnessed in any phone over the last 10 years. Even the regular flip phones which are not smartphones had the good quality speakerphones for conference. It's a shame having such a Flagship phone with pathetic speakerphone.
I called HTC customer service and though I already new their scripted answer I still asked 'Is it a known issue?'. There reply was what I expected. Complete Denial. 'No, this is the first time we are hearing it.' What a joke. I told him to do some google and check the forums. I also complimented him for lying so well.
He asked me to do soft reset, hard reset and do factory reset which would wipe out all data. Simply put they were giving me a run around & wasting my time so I stopped him right there that son I have already done that.
He transferred me to their Repair department, who turned out to be Telus customer service and they said since it's a new phone you have a 1 year warranty, take your phone to the store you bought it from with the receipt and they'll replace it. I asked what if the replaced phone also have the same problem then what are my options. She said you need to discuss it with the store from where you bought it from, they can let you have another phone but you can't break the 3 year contract.
Dealing with the phones issue is frustrating enough and on top of that frustration caused by the absolute denial by HTC's customer service & not providing a solution is totally unacceptable. I'm selling my HTC Desire on ebay and probably buy the Nokia N8.
Sometimes all what a customer needs is an apology and admission that yes we are not crazy, there is a known issuee with the phone and they'll fix it. But they are following on the footsteps of Apple who literally made their customers feel like they are crazy when they reported about iphone 4 antenna issues. Shame on Apple for telling them that they are not holding the phone properly as if dealing with ignorant kids. Such behavior isn't expected from such large and reputable corporations. Nokia on the other hand makes the best phones and admit their problems and fix them.
What do expect from a tiny rear speaker?? If you want decent sound then plug in some speakers!!
Or are you the annoying twats who play music when in public?

To be fair, I also have a T-Mobile Pulse Mini as a backup phone, and the internal speaker is way, way, better than the one on the Desire.
IMHO, the Desire's speak is "ok", if you want to take/make a handsfree call whilst sitting at your desk, but is worse than useless if you are in a car - for both taking calls and satellite navigation. I do have bluetooth handsfree, so it is less of an issue for me personally, but given the price of the phone I think they could've made the internal speaker a little higher quality.
Regards,
Dave
But the phone isn't a media player in the traditional sense, you wouldn't watch a film on it without headphones...given, it could be a bit louder for the navigation side of things but I've got Sat Nav for that...

I wouldn't only because it would sound terrible from the external speaker. If it sounded better, it is something that I might well do.

The headphone volume is really low on my desire (stock t-mobile rom) even with hi end noise cancelling headphones and volume at max (am told this is a problem with the t-mobile rom), now I use mixzing which has a gain and graphic for music. It is almost imposible to watch a film while on the underground tho, which is really annoying me, am waiting to see if the froyo update fixes this, if not I will root and change to unbranded rom.

Personally, I've never had a problem with the speaker volume on my Desire, its a lot louder than my my old iPhone, if a bit tinny.

Hey, i have a problem with the jack plug. of My DHD when using Headphones.
I went to the beach last week and i think some sand went in the jack plug. (even though i was carefull)
I can't plug headphones whithout seeing the phone make calls and launch voice search, every 5 seconds. Really Annoying as i can't listen to music anymore.
I tried cleaning the plug but nothing had changed.
My theory is that the phone thinks i'm pressing the call button of a handsfree set.
I'm thinking of buying a blutooth audio receiver.
Or, if there was a way to disable handsfree controls, i think this would do it, but it doesn't seem possible yet.
Has anyone Got a clue ?
Thx
Does this happen with every set of headphones, or just the HTC set provided?
Hey, i've tried with several sets of headphones and it does the same thing with each of them.
I'm thinkink about sending back it to htc.
Yet, as it's rooted, i'm not so sure they'll repair it for free :/
Do you think i should i revert it to stock before sending it?
Thnx
I've heard about this problem before in a different forum.
The ppl there found out that it has to do with the lenght of the plug. (some are slightly longer than others and they cause the problem)
According to the guys on the other forum, it shouldnt happen with the stock headphones though.

I use three different set of head phones. It doesn't happen with skullcandy or ipod in ear ones with me. (Does with sennhieser hd280)
I am pretty sure it's a jack related issue.
Anyone having this problem?
I am suffering with the volume rocker issue, but noticed this morning that 2 sets of headphones are not recognised when plugged in.
I've tried a restart, but no difference.
Right now I have a lot to talk to Samsung support about this morning
Don't know yet about the Nexus, but Samsung phones need earphones with a three ring jack.

nope, incorrect. They need headsets that have a TRRS jack. Normal headphones (that do not have a mic) are fine as long as they are a 3.5mm TRS jack.
Sorry, you're right!
Hope that 'll still help the OP though.
I just plugged in my old HTC Desire headphones, and listened to some youtube videos through them, but I noticed a couple of odd things:
1. No headphones symbol appeared.
2. When I used Twitter, pulling to refresh, the sound came through the headphones, but when the pop sound came for new Tweets, it came from the phone!?
Has anyone seen the headphones symbol?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the stock Samsung headphones do exactly the same things.

Just tried with two pairs of headphones and no symbol came up either, not a big deal though really.
Also I notice when you change volume on the phone (when music isn't playing) you hear the noise through both the phone and headphones, so I guess notification sounds play through both, like the Twitter thing you mentioned.
I think I just found out the answer. It's doesn't seem to be a "problem". It was never going to show.
I just tried it in a friends GS2. No headphone symbol popped up. I asked them has a headphone symbol ever popped up and she looked at me confused and said "No. Why would it? I've never had a phone even back to my Sony Ericsson days that did that."
I said, like computers, they normally show when anything is connected.
"But computers don't show when you connect headphones or a headset." she said.
"...... ..... Good point." lol
Hello One community,
I just purchased the One a week ago and finally had a chance to use the stock HTC headphones that came in the box. When I receive a call or get notifications, the sound comes through the head phone jack as well as the phone speakers. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried different settings and nothing seems to work. Is this the default behavior of the sound?
Probably meant to be like that. I know that in the past I've been listening to music and then when I was done I just set my phone down without taking the headphones out of the jack. They probably did it for that type of situation. I mean I'm not 100% sure but that seems logical.

pretty sure that is normal. Same thing happens when connected to a bluetooth headset.
Ok...thanks. guess I will just deal with it. My previous HTC Incredible 2, Incredible 4G , HTC DNA and Moto Razr HD didn't allow any sounds to come from the phone speaker when the head set is plugged in. That is why I still found it odd. It's kind of annoying. I use the headset to quiet the phone notifications when I'm in a public area. But since the sounds still come from the phone speakers, I have to mute the output, which defeats the purpose.
I got a brand new pair of earbuds (Brainwavz Delta something) and plugged them into my HTC 10.. they work fine for a bit then if I move the phone just right (or sometimes do nothing) the music stops, there's no longer a headphone icon in the status bar, and I have to unplug and plug them back in.. any idea what this may be caused by?
My Xiaomi Piston 3s worked fine with it, they just died in one ear :/
Edit** the headphones work fine with my Nexus 7, so it's not an issue of compatibility... unless the fact that it's a 3-ring plug (which should be fine, so were the pistons)
Same issue with headphone jack
I was using a pair of Fischer Audio Consonance Pro IEM's on my M8 and now 10 and experiencing the same issues. Songs skipping all over the place, starting, pausing, the OK Google app starting up and saying it couldn't hear what I said, or picking up something from what I am listening to. It is maddening. I love this phone so far, but this issue will drive me crazy if I can't be easily fixed.
It's as if the jack/plug is coming loose, since it fails to recognize the headphones until I unplug it and replug. It's very annoying, and seems to happen only if I tip the phone just the right way :/ hope it's not a hardware defect...
I have a feeling this is because of the edges, if you look at the headphones Jack it isn't flush the edge goes in a little thus you don't get 100% covered 3.5m lead.
Does seem worse in some headphones though

Not really, the best way would be to get a very small 3.5m extension cable, one that isn't so sensitive, but you would only find out through trial and error. Or buy another set of headphones. For example my bose qc25 aren't to bad but a cheap sony set I have if I move abit they crackle.
Is the one bit of design htc messed up. If they would of moved it a few mm to the front and problem solved.
Surprised more people aren't moaning about it as one big points is the 24 bit audio.
Can we confirm that this is an issue across all HTC 10's and not just an unlucky few? I thought my phone might've been defected. 2 Beats headphones I have (got both as gifts) do not seem to work properly. But if I use other a plantronics headset I have, works just dandy. I'm afraid to buy any headphones not knowing which would or wouldn't work. This is not a good thing at all.
I have a Sol republic headphone with mic integrated and doesn't work properly on mine either. However, a friend of mine has a sol republic headphone too, and it works. I bought a panasonic tcm 125 and it works really well.. so IDK, I'm going to change the cable on my sol rep to see if that fix the problem.
Might be headphones with integrated control/mic which has the extra ring :/
Question: when does the issue happen for everyone else? Mine almost always acts up when I turn the screen off, maybe that has something to do with it
I can confirm this is NOT a wide spread issue, I even dropped my phone, not low enough to hang on the cord but enough movement to yank on it, I have messed with it, played around to see if I can make it have an issue, but no issue exists, its either an unlucky few or your headphones.
The only issue I have not related to this is my headphones I tested, the "Audio Technica ATH-M50" jack is too big to fit in the headphone jack while my phone has its case on (Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal), taking the case off solves it, just barely not big enough cut out on the case for that model of headphones, regardless they don't sound as good as my IEM's so F em! lol
Have you guys tried other headphones or AUX cords? I don't have this issue anywhere, not via Headphones, not at my work on are speaker system, and not in my car via AUX.
So the actual shape or design of the headphone jack it self is NOT flawed like I noticed some have speculated.
I've been using my m50x or bose qc20's. Both work fine with no issues.
Pretty sure it's headphones with integrated controls for Apple devices that don't work. My jbl reflects which I use for running (3 rings) don't work if pushed all the way in. But my bose sound true work just fine. And the bose just so happen to be made for samsung and android devices. If I had some apple earpods around I'd test it but I'm thinking it's just headphones with integrated controls exclusively for Apple that might have issues.

Wish that were the case.. mine are specifically Android remote headphones :/
Experiencing similar issues with my Sennheiser Urbanite XL headphones. Seemingly random moments where the headphones seem to just disconnect with the slightest movement (or non-movement).

Hmmm you're right. My sisters htc 10 seemingly all headphones just do not to work. Might be a small batch issue. I'm thinking about exchanging out for another one because I have the yellow band issue on the bottom of the screen anyways. Really don't want to play the exchange game like I did with the nexus 6p especially since HTC doesn't have the same support Google does. Gonna exchange if I get a bad one twice I'm just returning this phone all together. Hate to see it go because this phone is gorgeous.

Ah I have the unlocked model and I modded it to use on Verizon. I had no problem replacing phones through verizon though. Switched out my s6 edge 4 times for free due to display and speaker issues. Of course you end up getting their certified like new device which may or may not bother you. But if it doesn't you can just go to a corporate store and show them some headphones won't work. Most likely they'll ship you one free of charge.

I'm not a huge fan of Verizon anyway.. parents are just too afraid to lose the coverage (T-Mobile is top of my list but they're not so convinced)
I accidentally whacked my headphone jack very lightly with the tip of my finger and now my headphones seem to randomly disconnect. It works fine with my aux cable, but with my headphones with a mic it seems this happens.
