Docomo Arc adding APN failed (but I got a semi solution) - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
I have flahsed docomo's rom for the ARC on my HK branded ARC, and for some peculiar reasons, when I tried to add an APN for my provider, which has a different MCC and MNC, that APN will not save on the phone. If you used the default MCC and MNC as the Japanese APN's, it will stay there but as soon as you change those settings that particular APN will disappear.
Out of desperation I went to the market to see if there are any APN apps that can force save a setting. I thus downloaded APN manager and it worked for I can, through that app, choose the APN I wanted to use and it will work!
However, if you go to setting by pressing the menu button to see the list of APNs stored in your phone, the one that is saved using the APN manager will disappear and you have to redo it again... So you cant open the APN menu under network settings... very queer...
But at least I have a semi solution for now, and I have no idea why the docomo ROM runs smoother than the official HK 2.3.3.... But unfortunately, it is only a 2.3.2 ....

[Q] Switching between APNs

Suppose I need to synchronize email and access the intranet using APN#1 but all other accesses need to go through APN#2.
On WinMo, there was the option to automatically select a different APN for work or internet related access. MMS also went automatically via yet another APN.
How can this be done on Android 2.2?

[Q] Automatic APN switching? / Do I need to manually change APN while roaming?

Hi, I've just flashed the Android Revolution HD 3.3 rom and 12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M radio.
I noticed that I was not able to use data connection until I manually enter the APN for my network provider.
Back when I was using the stock rom, it used to load APN settings automatically when I put in the sim card (I have two sim card from different networks, when I switch the cards, the APN settings changes automatically). I was wondering if there's anyway to make this rom do the same thing?
If not, this is not a big problem when I'm in town, as I can enter both networks APN and choose them manually instead.
However, will I'll need to research into APN for other networks before I travel? What happens to the APN settings while I'm on roaming?
===
Edit: In case this matters: I am in Hong Kong, using CSL and 3.
Edit2: both provides are in the apns-conf.xml file, somehow the APN still aren't switching automatically

How to Flash ROM and keep same Data plan?

Hi Guys.
I'm trying to understand how to guarantee the same data plan after flashing a new rom. (Desire HD)
On Windows Mobile it meant having to write down and remember the Access Point and password and manually type that in the phone once you've flashed a new rom.
What should we do with Android or what are the only things to look out for?
Where is this info stored? Is it in the SIM Card? Is it to do with the Baseband version?
I'd really appreciate any info you know about this.
Thanks.
Most, if not all custom ROMs have a huge APN list that will default to your network.
You can find your details in Settings > Mobile Network > Access Point Settings, (Or something like that, I use MIUI so it may be a little different)
I wouldn't worry about having to backup yours as it will be in the APN list.
Thanks andyharney.
My APN isn't listed in CM7 which is the first rom I've tried.
It is also locked so I wasn't sure what it was.
With the app APN Backup & Restore we can save the APN details as an xml file to the SD card and then read that xml file or restore the APN from that file.
I'll pass that APN info to the CM team.
Cheers mate.

[Q&A] S3Rx 2.0 (4.1.2)(MG2)

This thread is to help anybody that may have general questions about S3Rx and for those that can't post in the development section.
Loser,
I have been unable to send photos by text on every custom rom that I have used. I am currently on S3rx 2.0 with unthemed TW. Any suggestions?

Are you using the default TW MMS or something else?
loser,
I found my problem. I use TW MMS but I am on Straight Talk and after using an old APN it never worked for MMS. I found a newer version and it works for MMS. Also SR3X 2.0 is my daily driver and it works great. I started using custom roms quite a while ago and my first was cognition. This rom works so well that I have quit searching and flashing.
Thanks.:good::laugh:

I am planning to switch to ST and just bought a ATT microSIM from them. Can you please list APN settings for ST? How do you like S3 with ST?
Playlist issues
Loser,
I am having an issue with my playlists not showing up entirely. My playlists are there but only a fraction of the songs in the playlist show up. Any suggestions to get my entire playlist to show up? For the time being I have to use playlist backup for my entire playlists to have the songs. I do have rescan media root installed and turned on.

This works for me on my S3. I used to use the same except for Proxy was proxy.mvno.tracfone.com and Port was 80 but it would not let me send photos. I could receive them though. I have used Straight Talk for a year now and have not had any problems with their service. I use auto refill and it has not been any problem.

I've been on straight talk for about a year also, no issues, and I have saved quite a bit of money over my previous plans! This is the setup that I use, and have never had any issues.

Move apps to extsdcard
First of all, thank you very much for this invaluable ROM. The time and effort you have put into it really shows.
I have a question which I have not been able to find an answer for, which I hope can be answered here. Although I have not completely used my internal memory (3.5GB free), I am reportedly out of space to load any new apps or even update existing ones ("Insufficient storage available"). Also, the option to move apps to my extsdcard is missing. And apps such as app2sd and App manager are unable to move apps to the extsdcard as well ("The device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function cannot be supported by this device").
I loaded S3Rx 2.2 after a full wipe.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
After GB, Google removed that feature.
Some manufacturers under extreme pressure from consumers (Samsung Galaxy S4, for example) reinstated it, and others like Toshiba on the Thrive tablet added a feature to 'move data to SD' with their ICS update.
Neither are officially supported by Google.
A Google search will turn up a lot of opinions as to why.....
thank you

Thanks for the reply.
I had a suspicion of such, but wasn't sure if that was the case with this phone/ROM.
I guess I am an app-aholic.

As Danvee stated, there isn't a need to move apps to sd as the sd & data partitions are one giant block. So all of the apps that you donwnload which go into /data/app would take up the same space being moved to the sdcard.
As for your insuffiecient storage issue, does it only happen on certain apps? Check for any *.odex files in your /data/app directory.

The insufficient space issue turned out to be quite bizarre. Uninstalling apps didn't fix it either. I was still unable to install after removing several apps. I also wasn't able to install straight from an apk. Out of curiosity, I cleared the data on "Downloads", "Google Services Framework", and "Package installer", but no luck. So, I assume something in the system became corrupted. I decided to go ahead and reflash - which, of course, fixed my issue.
incredible

ATT --> T-Mobile
I tried searching over all and couldn't find an answer, so if I missed something I'm sorry.
I am currently on ATT and trying to switch to T-Mobile to save about $30/month on my bill.
Will this phone with this ROM work on T-Mobile? When I say work, I mean the same way as it works on ATT. Will I need to flash something else for data to work?
I have a the latest version installed S3Rx 3.0 (3-22-14) and ATT modem.

Additional, I went to T-Mobile and asked to test their SIM card, it turns out that this ROM is not unlocked. Any chance of unlocking this ROM in the next version?

You need to unlock it yourself, it's not part of the rom. See here for unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176719
Also, there's a T Mobile version of this same rom in the T Mobile section that will probably work better. Yes, you can flash a T mobile based rom on an AT&T device, my wife is actually using it as we speak.
Although, you might not get 3G data, but there are people working on it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344627

Thank you for reply. However the unlock method you recommended no longer works. Red text = does not exist in the 4.3 its for 4.1.2 only. Also, not having 3g is a compromise I am not willing to take.
This is by far the best ROM for S3 and its a shame its not unlocked. Would it be possible to release unlocked version of this ROM?
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone

Like I said, unlocking has nothing to do with the rom. You can try calling AT&T for an unlock code.

[Q] Unlocking Default APNs to Edit

Anyone have a solution on making the APNs editable? I'm looking to change the APN protocol to IPv4/IPv6 instead of the default IPv6 but the APN isn't editable and has a padlock next to it.
Go to setting in APN and create a new one then copy everything to the new one and replace what you want from there.
