[Q] Mobile network drops when screen blanks - Desire General

I've got an annoying problem on my Desire. The mobile network (GSM/WCDMA, not data) drops when my screen blanks.
It's been doing it a lot today when on a call, I can talk for 30 seconds or so (that's what my screen timeout is set at) and then when the screen blanks, the mobile signal drops to nothing from a full signal.
If I up the screen timeout to 'stay on' then I don't have the problem, so it's definitely something to do with the screen blanking.
I'm running a rooted Desire with RCMixS Ace S 2.36.405.8 WWE Release base, 2.3.3.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Searched rom corresponding thread?

I experienced similar problem when I was on AOSP ROM and flashed Sense RIL. If you did not change the RIL that's included in RCMix I'd recommend flashing the latest radio. This could solve you problem.

I decided to revert my Desire to the stock RUU, and the problem still exists.
At least I can now send it back to HTC, and as it's still within it's first year, I'm not very hopeful that they'll sort out a FOC repair or replacement.

FM Radio bug in HTC Sense FroYo (Telstra)

Just wanting to put this out there to canvas other users' experiences.
I tend to use the FM Radio quite a lot and, ever since upgrading to FroYo, have found that the FM Radio notification disappears from the status bar at some random interval. I've tried to find a cause or pattern but cannot, not time of day, time running, other app usage or whatever that I can see.
The problem is that, once it has gone, it is no longer possible to interact with the FM Radio any more - removing the headphones doesn't stop the audio as it should, I can't change the volume and if I try to turn it (the FM Radio app) off it actually seems to launch a new instance of the app which kills it and locks up the FM Radio completely, (finally) killing the audio. The FM Radio then cannot be used at all until the phone is rebooted.
I've also tried using Fast Reboot to reset the app - it says it has closed/restarted FM Radio but it doesn't help. I've also examined the various logs without seeing a cause.
My own phone is rooted with NeoPhyTe's Sense FroYo ROM on it so I was unsure if this was a problem with that, until a colleague recently upgraded his stock Desire with the latest ROM from the HTC site and has started to experience the problem too. His phone has none of the same apps (other than built-in) in common with mine, and I've tried it on a vanilla version of my own and still experienced it
Can anyone else confirm this behaviour?
I can confirm. Stock HTC Desire updated to 2.2 OTA. Exactly the same problem.
Thanks mate, I'm going to file a bug with both Telstra and HTC tomorrow. I guess the more who do it, the faster we might get a fix (yeah, right!).
have same problem here
htc desire, 2.2
kernel- 2.6.32.15

[Q] HTC desire freeze/hang after receiving a voice call

HTC desire freeze/hang after receiving a voice call.
When I receive a voice call then I see following strange behavior:
- Ring tone goes, but it stops after a few seconds.
- I can answer the call, but when the call is ended then my phone hangs/freezes.
=> I have to remove the battery...
Are there people with the same problem? Or is this already posted somewhere with cause and fix?
I'm using the oxygen ROM on my phone, but I also saw this with CM MOD7.
I have a screen protector foil on my phone, is this the cause? (I read this somewhere).
I can't remember that I had this problem with the RUU rom.
Br
Same thing here...
Every beautiful rom tried, ended up with freezes or black screens. Phone does not ring, even if the caller sounds like it would.
Saw this tip here, which I have not tried yet, but I will do.
My phone is a pvt4 and some guys (I hope you not see this as politics) here have a strong dislike for rom manager.
h**p://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/356192-warning-do-not-use-rom-manager.html
So, I am flashing know and report back in a few days. (Usually first days things seems right, but after a while I end up with a useless phone, flashing back to ugly RUU.
I will use (AmonRA Recovery image) with unrevoked and then re-try flashing RevolutioN.xMas.Edition.v3.0.A2SD2B-signed
My brother has the similar problem
He finds his Desire GSM screen black, and not reacting to the buttons. he has to remove the battery and turn the phone on. this is happening on recieving calls and on custom roms, as we saw, on any rom that we tried. it's not happening on stock rom, but we want to have an solution where he isn't limited with the internal space.
i look in the forum, but does someone have and advice how to use stock rom with enlarged space? like stok rom with app2sd or another similar rom (maybe i didn't write the names correctly)
thanks in advance for your help and advices

[Q] My desire lose reception after being a few minutes in standby - hardware issue?

Hi guys,
I've been owning and using my DHD for nearly a year now and loving every minute of it.
Last week a new issue started to show: people calling me got directly to my voice mail.
After 3 days of checks and fixes with my call provider (blaming them for the issue) - they asked me to switch the Sim card on the phone with another line I own. To my amazement - the new sim card became unreachable and went to voice mail directly.
Since then I tried:
1. Complete Wipe and burned a new Snes based ROM (my older one was MIUI). Didn't help.
2. Complete Wipe and burned a AOSP (LordRom based kernel) ROM. Didn't help.
3. Upgraded the Radio and even RIL to the latest stable one - no change.
4. Changed the settings to 2G only, GSM only and even hand picked my ISP - no change.
5. Installed "no lock" and activated it to prevent the lock screen.
All of the above were done without any restore (only clean ROM) to ensure none of my installed apps were to blame.
The strange part is that if I let the phone go to standby and turn on the screen I can see an X on the reception area (hence "no reception") but after 5 seconds it switches to a full reception bars (and I can get calls). So calls come in only when I'm with the phone turned on and when it turns off the screens it acts "as if" it goes to airplane flight mode.
In addition - regardless of the ROM - it keeps going 8 minutes ahead in time whenever it losses reception and also eats up battery like crazy.
Do you guys think it's software (maybe Radio rom) related?
Or should I take it a part to look for a physical hardware problem?
Thanks!

[Q] Radio bug on 1.28.401.9 ?

Hi guys,
First of all, I'm new on XDA, this is first post and I'dl like to congratulate all XDA admins & main contributors for this high quality forum.
Second, I'm french so forgive me for my poor english skills
So, I'm opening this thread because when my phone loses the GSM/UMTS signal (for example when I'm in a deep parking) it can't recover it on its own when, for example, I go out of the parking.
In order to recover the signal I have to reboot the radio (airplane mode ON then OFF) or reboot the phone. This is quite annoying...
I guess the phone is supposed to recover the signal on its own !
Is anybody experiencing the same issue ?
I have an unbranded One X, firmware 1.28.401.9 and my radio version is 1.1204.103.14
My provider is "Free Mobile" (France).
I have noticed that sometimes it can take a considerable amount of time to find a signal once lost. I have become impatient and rebooted the radio like you describe, but it does seem to work on its own given enough time. can't be sure if it was present before the update however.
Thanks for your answer !
Ahah when I said my phone was unable to re-find the signal once lost, I rather meant I had no patience to wait for it ^^
But even if it takes a "considerable amount of time" as you said, it's still not normal !
My "old" Desire S needed just some seconds to do the job.
Maybe the phone needs some "training" time to recover the signal fast, like the battery needs some training before reaching its optimal level of efficiency !
Hi dude, dunno if it's carrier related or if it even can be carrier related, but I'm experiencing the same issues as you described, and I'm also with free mobile in France..
For information, I'm currently using ADHR 5.1 rom.
As for waiting the time for signal to come back, I don't know if we can say that I'm not patient enough, the fact is the longest I've been waiting was around 1hour, and it did not come back by itself. Needed to toggle on/off airplane mode too
Hello all,
Me too with Free Mobile, i have not this problem with rom CoreDroid 2 and/or 2.1.
Before, just 1 time this problem was here. Reboot phone and after GSM coming back. Rom CoreDroid 1.0.
Actualy rom CD 2.1
radio 1.1204.103.14
build 1.28.401.9
No problem.
PS: CD 1.0 was in build 1.26
Problem seems to be fixed in the 1.29 update, mine immediately reconnects now
Indeed. 1.29 fixed this issue.

[Q] FM Radio random stops

Hi,
Can anyone please verify whether their built in FM Radio randomly stops by itself after having it on for 40-50 mins plus? When I say 'stops' the radio broadcast stops, but the app itself is still on and at this point to get it back you have to turn the Radio app off and back on again. If you try to scan to another channel the screen just displays 'Scanning' but nothing ever happens and then I cannot even turn off the app - at this point you have to reboot the phone; even killing it from the task manager does not get it back.
I never had this prior the current software (1.29.401.11 - Stock ROM) but then again I am not sure if I did listen to the radio longer then 50 mins before....
Things I have tried are resetting the phone and also rooting and installing Android Revolutions but the problem is still there. I have now gone back to Stock ROM in case I need to send it back (however I did unlock the bootloader so might not even get HTC to honor the warranty at this stage and if that happens I am just going to sell it and get a GS3 - despite that I prefer HTC over Samsung).
So any replies will be of great help to decide how to move forward.
Thank you.
J
This is because of multitasking "feature" that HOX got from HTC. process is getting killed after some time, i got this same problem in my HOX.
Report it to tech support, so maybe they will fix it in next update.
Adam
Thanks for that - yup that seems about right - I did not realise the HTC multi-tasking feature would even come into play since the phone is plugged into a power source when the radio would cut off. I have now had it on continously for over 80 mins - how? Well, every so often I would go into the application so I guess the phone doesn't get a chance to see it as an idle process and kill it off!
I haven't noticed this feature doing the same with their music app so I am guessing they have some level of control over it - quite annoying that they don't treat the FM radio the same way as their music app...HTC quietly (not) so brilliant
