[Q] [Help] the device is not ready error msg - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i just flashed ARHD 5.1.11, when i drag and drop some files from my sd card to the pc, it works. but when i drag and drop back from pc to the sd card which is in my dhd connected by usb, i got the 'the device is not ready' error message. and the pc cannot locate my sd card anymore though phone still shows im connected in disk drive. the error message only appears when i tried to transfer files larger than 1mb. i tried rebooting pc and dhd, google for help, change usb port, re-flash ARHD 5.1.11, tried another pc. no luck. can someone please help me on this matter? thanks!

Bump for help

Flash another rom. Does the problem still exists?

i've tried that. but it can't solve the problem. i've inserted the memory card to a card reader and transfer files and it work. so i don't know what's wrong with my phone.

Same problem here, Incredible S
Nobody found a solution to this problem yet? I just realized I'm having the same problem with my HTC Incredible S ("the device is not ready" error while in the middle of transferring big files from PC to phone).
Could it be just an HTC issue? I also remember Desire HD having lots of other SD card issues (mainly SD card suddenly unrecognizable / unmounted at random times, sometimes requiring reboot).

Damaged SD Card Notification - Just Appeared And With Multiple Cards

Hi All,
I'm starting to get annoyed with my Desire with the little problems which are starting to appear!
Today - all of a sudden I got a notification to say "Damaged SD Card" so I took the card out and put it back in but that didn't work.
I then took it out and put it in an adapter on my computer and it sees all the files in it, so I'm trying to copy them across so I can reformat the card.
But I tried a different card in the Desire, the one that came with the phone and it has the same error!
I hard resetted the phone (which annoyed me because my SMS backup doesn't start until midnight!) tried both cards again and still the same error!
Any ideas what I can do?
Thanks for your help in advance

Try reformatting with the desire, and not the pc!
Also make sure your card is class 4 minimum I had the problem on my hero with class 2 where it kept corrupting. Now have class 4 had no problems

[Q] Topic: Preparing SD card; Checking for errors

Help:
This memory card worked perfectly with my other HTC Desire, until i swapped it due to technical problems with it.
I've tried putting in a 4gb Memory card into my HTC Desire and it doesnt seem to work. As i turn the phone on the message "SD card safe to remove" appears. I've tried going into settings and mounting the memory card and after all it says is "Preparing SD card; Checking for errors", and nothing really happens after that, other than freezing the settings menu.
I've tried formatting the memory card, which did nothing. Tried factory restore on the Desire which also did nothing.
I've tried the memory card on other mobile phones and work perfectly normal. I've tried another memory card on the Desire but yet, same message appears again. So therefore if im not wrong, this issue must be something to do with the Desire itself. There is one thing i've noticed, when i turn the phone on i get this message "S-off" with the joker from batman appearing, i'm assuming this must have something to do with it aswell or is that just some software which allows the Desire to work on all networks?
Can anybody help?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Does this have anything to do with it?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601340
Is your device rooted?? And what ROM are you using?
Well it has S-off on it, so i'm assuming that it must be rooted then. How do i find out what ROM it is.

Advanced Ace Hack Kit (SD-card damaged)

Hey, I just Rooted my DHD with AAHK, with the result of having a rooted phone, but with a damaged SD-card. Can I just format the SD-card without any issues, or do I have to run the Setup all over again if I do?
JayBeee
Same thing for me
Exact same thing happened to me - what did you do to resolve it? Just reformat?
Hey guys, I'm having this same problem too. Ran AAHK and seemed to run perfectly. When it was finished my phone is saying that the SD card is damaged and my computer (Mac Book Pro) wont recognize it. Any idea's? Thanks for the help.
Happened to me once. You have to format it from the phone's storage settings menu.

My computer did not recognize the sd card either when the "SD card damaged" message appeared.
All I did was to run chkdsk from windows 7 for the sd card in question and then the card was recognizable again...
Phewwww.. That was a shock as I did not have a recent backup of all my files.
Hope that helps a little

files not showing when connected to PC

when i connect my phone to my PC, it is recognized. when i goto SD card, all it says is available space, but nothing is showing as being on there. so this is preventing me from added a zip file to it to flash. no files are showing, not even the internal storage.
im rooted on d2att_port.
any ideas how to get my files to show? this happened before iand i cant remember how it wAS FIXED. search is unavailable so im asking here.
thanks
I had this issue just last week. What worked for me was to unmount sd card in settings. That may have fixed it there but I also powered down the phone..ejected sd card and reinserted.

All files on external SD card corrupt after unexpected shutdown

Hey guys and girls!
This morning my phone turned off by itself (13% battery left) and needed somewhat longer than usual to reboot (in the meantime I plugged it back in to the charger). First thing I noticed was that my whole theme got reset as well as it started showing me introductional tips ("long press here to move your apps to the homescreen, ecc.). It also started to update apps in the Play Store even though I set it to manual ... so basically a LOT of things were reset.
The biggest problem I'm having now is though that all my files (pictures, videos, music) that are stored on an external micro SD card are corrupt. It's not possible anymore to open anything. I already removed the micro SD card and put it into an adapter to have a look at the files via the laptop. But nothing, even though the sizes of the files seem OK, I can't open them.
Does anyone have a clue as to what exactly happened here? Are those files lost (at least of some I have a backup) or is there anything I can do to "repair" them? Help is really appreciated, thanks!
PS: Things like the card unmounting and re-mounting never occurred. So I can't tell if the card was dying or if actually the phone ruined my files.
Did you happen to be using a SanDisk SD Card? I've had my 10 brick 2 of those until I switched to Samsung SD Cards about a year ago and haven't had issues since.
I never could manage to recover files from the damaged SD cards.
I have a Samsung SD card and had something similar.
I guess I was on Viper Rom and basically my phone restarted around 15-20% of battery. After a long wait for booting back again, all my settings were gone.
Files and others in the SD card was okay but basically until I formatted the card, I wasn't able to boot into the Download Mode to install a new rom...
I fixed the restart issue by installing the official HTC Rom.
Thanks for your replies.
It is indeed a SanDisk 16GB card. It seems though that the card is still working (no problems accessing it via phone or laptop), just the files appear to be broken. In the meantime I also tried apps like PC Inspector File Recovery, but to no success
I'm still on stock HTC Sense by the way, no root, nothing.
Anyone know though why that happened (resetting everything, etc.)?
Hit me with a PM I'll give you a SanDisk restore tool which works quite ok. there is a huge chance some files can be recovered, some will be damaged though. Don't push any new files on the card after you tried to restore the files
HTC 10-Corrupted microSD card
I know this is an older thread, but I was wondering if there is a solution. I have an HTC 10 which has an micro SD card in it, that is "married" to the phone. When connected to a computer, the computer recognizes the phone, and the microSD card, and begins to load the folders/files. Eventually this process stalls, and the phone/drive is no longer readable by the computer. To get the computer to recognize the phone/card again, I need to restart the phone, but the same thing happens again.
I have like 20gigs of data on the card, and cannot just put the card in a reader, because it's encrypted to the phone. Any possible solutions? It's frustrating to see the files/pictures for a minute or two, and then have them disappear. I have tried copying/pasting the files while they're visible, but this often triggers the computer to no longer recognize the phone/memory card. I've tried to un-encrypt the microSD card, but the phone can't recognize/access the microSD card long enough to complete that process.
Please help if you can.
