Well I think I am not able to update because I removed japanese keyboard.apk. Is it possible to reinstall it in some manner?
Yes it's possible, just request japaneseIME.apk and install it.

You should NEVER remove a system file without at least backing it up onto your SD card. If you've modified any other system files, the update will likely fail. Backup and do a complete flash through Update Service, PC Companion or the Flash Tool.
You can attempt to restore the keyboard with the attached file.

Hi,
Since the release of the latest application (v1.6) a lot of users have been upset about the horrible downgrade in software.
It seems that Softbank has still not hired any native English speakers.....
Anyway I'm not here to rant I'll just post the files for v1.5 since a lot of people were asking where they could find a copy for themselves.
I pulled both of these files out of a backup I stored onto my SD card using MyBackupPro. Not sure what the zip file is for, but the APK is there. Maybe somebody could clear that up for me as well.
Zip file
APK
As far as I know there is two ways to get this installed (there may be many other ways).
1. adb push the apk or
2. download MyBackup and do a quick backup of some apps you have installed already. download both of these files and paste them into the directory where MyBackup stores the backups for apps. run MyBackup and choose to restore the Softbank Mail app.
cheers.

Hi, after reading your post I discovered my version of SoftBank Mail is 1.0 but I've never received an update notification - probably because I'm not in Japan.
EDIT: Apparently it's because the version you've uploaded is designed for non-Japanese models and it's incompatible with mine.
I tried simply downloading the app and running a standard installation - it did install, but when I tried to launch it, I got a notification that it cannot be used on my device (Galapagos 005SH).
EDIT: The MyBackup method does not work because simply adding the files in the directory where the backed up APKs are doesn't automatically lead to the new APK(s) showing up in the list of available apps to restore - it's because the information is also written to a dedicated file (MBP extension I think it was). Perhaps that can be edited but...
I want to use flashtool to flash another rom on my phone because that will keep my root. However I want to have my original ROM backed up to flash it back with flashtool anytime in the future if I need to.
So my question is.. Could anybody explain me how to make this backup of my original rom or redirect me to a good tutorial or what so ever.
I did search already ofcourse, however couldn't find anything specific for Xperia Arc or Play.
Cheers.
You can use PC Companion or Update Service to reisntall your original firmware (and make a backup in the process) if and ONLY if it doesn't say an update is available.
Simply use those programs to flash/repair your phone and save the downloaded firmware files. Use the flash tool to decrypt those files and make your own .FTF file for backup.
http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/04/14/debrand-your-xperia-x10-tutorial/
Give it some laxatives. =)
Thanks BluechipJ,
Your answer brought me far, but still have a little problem creating a FTF file. When I want to bundle my files and press ok my phone isn't in the list (Xperia PLAY). I putted the LT15.sin in the loaders map. I think this one is for the ARC maybe? But also the ARC isn't listed in there.
I know I am in the wrong section coz of my PLAY.. but you already helped me out once so maybe you can help me out with this one too....
UPDATE:
I downloaded the newest Flashtool (before used 2.8) and now the arc is showing up in the list after putting the LT15.sin in the loaders map. So which .sin file I need to put in the loaders map to make the Play (R800i) showing up?

Since updating to Kitkat 4.4 I've lost the ability to sync files and folders on my MicroSD card.
There is a work around provided by the dropsync developers where you put your files in the /Android/data/com.ttxapps.dropsync/files folder on your microSD card and you're supposed to be able to sync there. However I don't have the 'com.ttxapps.dropsync/files' folder in my microSD card. In fact there is nothing in there that appears to be associated with dropsync. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling dropsync to see if those folders would be generated but they were not.
So I tried creating those folders in there myself and dropping my folders and files to be synced in there as well. When I tried to set the sync settings through dropsync it says that those folders cannot be two-way synced.
Does anyone have some advice for me? I really don't want to root because I don't want to void my warranty, but if there is absolutely no other way of resolving this issue that I may end up doing so.
Does anyone think android will change their minds about this and let apps write to the microSD card in a later update?

Did you used a system file manager app to create the folder (file manager app build in with the O/S)? you can't create with a third party file manager. Give it a try. If that's not working then you need....ROOT!!!

I used the "My Files" app which was already installed on the device. I'm pretty sure it's androids thing.

yep that's the system file manager. Tell you the truth, if your sync app already installed before you upgrade then you may have a chance, but if you install the app after the 4.4 upgrade then, most likely it's not going to work...just my observation.

It was installed and set up to sync all my files before the upgrade. It was working perfectly until I updated to Kitkat. Now it's all gone to hell and I'm about ready to root. This irritates me so much.

With the p600, your warranty will be voided if you try to root and you can't not downgrade.

Ugh... I'm completely updated with the stock firmware (installed the 103mb update earlier today). Will this tutorial still work for it?

Yes the link is good, but the files are not up to date here is mine;
1) Download this file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ixx-smp600.zip then unzip, you will see this file CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600.tar.md5.
2) Turn Off Tablet, Hold Volume Down + Power. Follow the instructions on the screen to get to download mode (Odin mode).
Rooting Instructions
1.Flash the CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600.tar.md5 file with Odin v3.09 (put in AP slot, don't change any other settings, click start)
2.Let it do its trick! boot up then go to play store download and install supersu in order to update supersu to the latest binary.
3. Boot back into Odin mode and flash TWRP version 2.6.3.3 found here https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/lt03wifiue/
That's all!
Hello everyone,
Sorry about the complicated title, let me explain my issue with my phone.
While i was surfing on internet, i've clicked on a link and Kaspersky warning message appeared on screen about a file that download to storage/downloads. Kaspersky deleted the file and as far as i can see from the download folder, it was gone.
*Here is the reported file name and the thread status; "flash.apk" "heur.trojan-dropper.androidos.hqwar.bt" I've scanned the phone with Kaspersky&Malwarebytes again and both programs found nothing.
Since i'm new to AndroidOS totally, i was wondering that do i need to reset OS to factory settings? I've read some discussions and they mentioned that some of the viruses can infect "internal storage/system" files and even i use the factory reset option, virus remains in the phone, reappears after factory reset i mean.
So, if the system files infected, flashing a new rom with a zip file that downloaded from oneplus.com wipes the previous system data?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Don't quote me on this, but as long as you didn't run the apk you should be fine.
Otherwise a factory reset should be fine.
Sent from my OnePlus7TPro using XDA Labs
Ya that's right, i did not run the apk but according to reports, hqwar does not need to be opened.
What about flashing the stock rom again? Does this write on current system files incase of an infect on backup storage?
Since i'm using bank apps daily, kinda concerned about this.

If you just downloaded it and it was deleted nothing could have happened...
Background
I have some entries in my hosts file and wish to keep them after installing an OTA update via lineage recovery.
My device is a/b partitioned, but since slot b is damaged I manually swap slots and install the OTA to slot a (working slot).
However, even though thinks like settings don't change during/after this OTA, my hosts file gets erased with every weekly update.
What I need
A method to keep the hosts file without being erased. If it's possible to create a script somewhere in the root partiton or elsewere which prevents the hosts file deletion, that would suffice (as long as this script won't be erased itself during OTA).
What I'd rather not do
· I know I could reverse engineer every update.zip and apply my version of the hosts file, but that would be way too much effort.
· I know I could always adb push ~/my/hosts /system/etc/ and yes, that's what I'm doing right now. But I'd rather not have to do this every time I flash an update.zip.
Does anyone have an idea?

It just happend. I think I can "repair" it with a factory reset, but I don't want to do that now.
Do you happen to have an idea (about my question)?
lineageos use the addon.d directory, you can place a script which is executed before and after OTA update.
In my LOS 18.1 there is 50-lineage.sh which backup and restore etc/hosts
