[Q] Virtuous Unity or Rcmix hd? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using rcmix hd sense 3.0 since version 0.1, however I've noticed that there is an alternative available now too. could anyone explain the differences and which they prefer and why? Thanks

I think there are no major differences. In your case i would do a nandroid backup and test Virtuous Unity and if you don't like it flash the backup.

the differences are too close to be concerned with. unity is being developed from the ground up, and rcmix 3d has been built collaboratively, which i think gives it better support, it even uses a lot of the fixes from unity and some of the sense componenets that their team fixed, aswell as unity working together with capychimp to fix parts of eachothers rom. capychimp has got a very large dev base though, so expect more fixes and better support. Saying that, unity is supposedly going weekly, and looks very very stable and as close to a stock dhd 3.0 rom as it can get

Unity rom is from Pyramid build and RCmix is from the kingdom build ,Pyramid is a newer rom then the kingdom one. There lot more development on the unity build then RCmix and it gets updates almost every week.
Also the unity rom is gives much more battery life and performance thanks to the OC demon in it and lastly using the snd3254 hack the sound on unity is much more better compared to RCmix.

Best Custom ROM's?

Hey people!
I'm planning on rooting and installing a new custom ROM to my Desire and I was just wondering which were the best? Can you recommend any decent ROM's, preferably highly customizable ones?
Thanks in advance!

There is no best rom. It depends on your personal preferences. I can recommend redux:

But there are many threads with this topic here. Use the search function.

I have a bog standard setup at the moment of one of the test roms for gingerbread with apps2sd included which is nice
but also supernova looks nice for data2sd
insertcoin rom and rcmix s also look good
but as said - it all depends what you want and what you like
i.e. do you want MIUI / AOSP / Sense etc.
if you want ASOP / CM rom i'm stuck at GingerVillain.
I just tried a few, and I recognize your feeling 'which one to choose'.
* http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570 This one seemed to be a bit slow
* http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054435 this one works great so far - most likely to stay on, only issue is that on weak WIFI networks the signal drops now and then
* The clean CM7 (without sense) - After running that ROM for a day or two I realized that Sense actually IS a nice thing to have
I S-OFF as well and changed the partition table so I have 300+ mb internal memory left for apps - COOL!
My personal preference is MIUI from miuiandroid.com.
Insertcoin 1.0.8 for me.
If you want Sense I would recommend ReflexS by Neophyte, best ROM i've ever tried!!
Regards
I use MIUI XJ D2EXT since 1.5.20 release, try it and see, if you don't like the iphone style you can install another launcher and also you'll have updates every week on Friday.

I've used only Neo's roms for about a year, brilliant if you want a sense rom
Im using Rcmix s 2.1 test 2 at the moment
It was good on 2.0 but with the newly added sense 3.0 stuff its getting better and better.
I would tell you to use RCmix S , this rom is sense FAST rom.
RcMix S is amazing! Try it!

RC Mix is the Best
+1
also it has 3d stuff in test 2 which is really stable
Rcmix s 2.1 test 2 for me also. Fast and stable so far, except 1 issue I found and can't report (Not enough posts), in the clock, the "Desktop Clock" FC's for me. Other than that, this is the best rom for me so far.

Sense ROMs

I never really been that much into sense but I do like the widgets and customization it provides. Anyone got some good recommendations for the best sense based ROMs (in their opinion). Screenshots or links would be nice too

I'd recommend CoreDroid
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117841
coredroid for speed... but if you want maximum coolness you need Virtuous Unity http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115333
I'd recommend InsertCoin. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080999) It is Sense 2.1 for speed, but has some Sense 3.0 features such as the lock screen, widgets, wallpapers, etc. I tried Virtuous Unity and found it very sluggish.
Virtuous Unity for Sense 3.0 and Gingerbread
Virtuous 1.0.2 for Sense 2.1 and Froyo
I have not tried Unity yet as I am in love with Virtuous G-Lite at the moment, but I did like Virtuous 1.0.2 when I had that. There are some small bugs with Unity, according to the thread in the dev section, but generally great reviews on it.

Senses blows... battery killer... but if u really want it. I would try virtuos unity
i also do recommend "CoreDroid Vision GB 2.3.3", any roms by siulmagic are better.but if you want fastest sense based rom then 1st shot should be "Desire_Gingerbread_sense 1.0" Unity is good but its bit slower
I'm curently using Unity Sense 3.0 and I haven't found any problems yet, which is good if you want a full Sense 3 (which is really heavy lol) but I find it runs smooth.
I had InsertCoin and have some stuff to help it movefasters, and amazing thems and the extended quick settings which are a plus.
So IncertCoin would be nice if you consider speed and like the themes.
Haven't test CoreDroid yet, but it does looks awesome.

I've used a variety of Sense and Sense-less ROMs, and never noticed a significant difference in battery life, much less anything that would make Sense a "battery killer". Things like radio and screen brightness have much more effect than Sense or no-Sense.
What blows is the stock Android camera app.

[Q] new to desire - whats the best rom?

hey guys,
i just bought a desire, moving from a htc hero. i am a bit confused with all the different roms available, so i would be very gratefull if someone could recommend a rom for me. i am looking for a rom with the following features:
1. as stable as the stock rom
2. has all the funcionallity of the stock roms (i noticed that for the hero some roms had problems with the camera for example, yet the camera is important to me, the same goes for gps)
3. is fast
4. has long battery life
5. sense is optional, i quite liked sense, especially the camera app and the dialer, yet i can live without it if i can find good replacements for the mentioned apps
6. gingerbread is optional - i am not quite sure how important the gingerbread improvements are and whether they come at the cost of speed and stability
thanks a lot in advance
imo the best rom was InsertCoin 1.0.5 with sense 2.1 and 3.0 parts..the new 1.0.8 with more stuff of 1.0.3 is beautiful but slowly respect the older 1.0.5
RcMixS v2.0 if you want GB with Sense 2.1 + 3.0.
Oxygen 2.1.4 / CM7 if you want pure (much faster than Sense) AOSP GB ROM.
MIUI if you want something completly different (iPhone like) with great battery life.
Also wrong forum section, this should go to Q&A...
HTC Desire --- Desire Android Development... does this look like a QnA section?

I hate to say this but given your criteria stick to stock, and don't bother reading this section, or making irrelevant posts in the DEV section
I can recomend GingerVillain (with dialer one as alternative to sene's dialer) or MIUI-XJ, both are without sense and super fast. Also have good batery life (ofc it depends on how u use your phone).
Fully customized GingerVillain - Super fast and lot of options.
Thanks
Thanks guys for your answers, as for the fact that i have posted in the wrong section, i have asked the thread to be moved to q&a. Peace

I highly recommend the InsertCoin series.
I'm currently using the InsertCoin Nightly ROM, although I am on V45 (latest is V50) as I feel it offers me the best experience and reliability.
Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

So what would be the problem with the non-stock roms?
Non apart from aosp not having sense, and some being a bit unstable, but most is very decent.
You need to decide if you want:
1. sense
2. aosp
3. miui
Try them out(just make a nandroid) and go between them till you find one you are comfortable with. Then choose a rom from either of the categories:
For sense roms, they are quite similar(all gb and sense 2.1+3.0 stuff). For aosp i personally prefer the clean oxygen, but some might consider the more configurable cm. For miui there are pretty much just the one choice

And if it is sense that your after, I would highly recommend the Insertcoin Sense 2.1+3.0 (3D) combination rom.. it feels advanced, very stable, everything works, the 3D animations are sensational (no pun intended Lol).
BTW, you might want to sort out your medical expenses as you'll soon become addicted to flashing like the rest of us!
If you are looking for stable and fast sense rom with good battery life then nothing can bit
RCMix S v2.0 Evolutionary Sense(2.1+3.0) by robocik imo.
i also tried leedroid,InsertCoin,CrystalKingdom,Cool Kingdom roms but not satisfied with performance, those who hasn't try it yet give it a shot, best sense rom i am using so far
Insertcoin Nightly is very nice, fast and reliable , and even if there's a problem it's fixed very fast as Baadnwz releases updates every 1-2 days
Has got to be MIUI-XJ for me . I tried , and liked RC Mix v2.0 but once i switched to miui -xj i found what i had been looking for.
Well basically its between sense and aosp. I dont need sense for its flashiness, advantages would be the camera and dialer apps.
On the hero I was using cyanogenmod, I was quite happy with it, with the only drawbacks that the cammera was more sluggish than on the stock-sense-rom and that the gps would crash the phone now and then.
So if there is an aosp rom that has the camera working well, I would go for that and if there was a sense-rom thats not super heavy on the cpu and the battery, that would be cool too...
Hi.
Absolutely satisfied with [ROM][Sense 2.1+3.0mix][02 June]RCMix S v2.0 Evolutionary Sense.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570&highlight=update
Ive tried almost every ROM, but this suites for me. Quick, not battery draining, everything I need and never had any any problem with it.
The developer deserve a 1st price. At least from me.
Ayax
LeeDroid 3.0.8.2 for me
I've used LeeDroid since before version 2.
No problems with the Froyo builds he's done - all features I need work correctly, including video capture, PPTP VPN, and no force close errors!
I'm currently trialling his GB stuff - version 3.0.8.2 is still a little buggy for me.
Search one from my sig, it's stable, fast and has good battery life
hope it helps

Need advice from Desire HD users!!

I'm looking for a bit of advice, my friend just came into town to visit me with a desire hd, and I've been looking for a good stable rom for him, the phone is already s-off rooted and all that, it has a ext-4 recovery or something like that based off clockworkmod, whoever did the phone put a nosense/sense 3.0 rom on it but after I compared it to my htc hd2 running cm7 wasn't too impressed, and I know the desire hd can run a whole lot better, but after looking thru the roms found almost all roms are based of sense 3.0 or 3.5 , is there any good aosp or cm7 that any would recommend for me or any good stable sense rom that definitely is the preferred, and if anyone has any suggestions and can add what radio and ril I need for it I would appreciated. I searched and the cm7 looked like there were issues with them and ultimate droid had been discontinued, was hoping MDJ was still working in them, but I guess everyone is moving to sense.
deleted......
Be patient okay well cm7 is the best aosp Rom (stable and a lot of support)but in my opinion sense 3.5 from rcmix is THE BEST ROM
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Android Revolution HD is a great sense ROM, there is also a de-sense flashable zip.
By the way, your comments above (however intended) won't win you any help! ! Keep that in mind.
ROM styles and features are personal taste, so best to try a few and make up your own mind. Just follow the Devs guide / OP and FAQ.
Backup apps and data with apps such as Titanium Backup (pro) and use CWM Recovery for nan-backup prior to flashing new ROMs or addons.
You may need to full wipe before flashing between ROMs (lose apps and data),.so backup first.

There are many of us willing to help out as much as we can, but we are in different time zones, countries etc.
Have a look at some of the screenshots in my sig to help with visual ideas, plus an up-to-date list of current XDA roms with links to the XDA threads.
Personally I enjoyed CM7 for ages and now I'm really happy with MIUI or the MIUI Freshly Squeezed Edition.
If you want AOSP ROM then try Hydrogenmod once.
CM7 is ok, but imo, Miui looks better. You can replace the miui launcher with LP/ADW and you still get the miui icon backgrounds. They both are pretty smooth and stable. Miui also has a pretty good music player with lyrics and a equalizer. CM7 has a super bright torch (Its brighter than most lights...) and DSP manager. I haven't seen any issues with CM7, most of the nightlies are pretty stable, CM7 based roms such as helios and hydrogen are also stable. Sci miui, RD miui and freshly squeezed are also really stable miui roms.
Sense just looks really nice, but isnt that functional or smooth (The launcher pretty much lags when a page is filled with apps, and the appdrawer always lags). Sense just has a better camcorder (Best AOSP camcorder is LG camcorder, which can record 1080p but still has no proper touch to focus in video - It does display a focusing icon now but still doesnt seem to focus for me). ROM Cleaner [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050283] can remove most of the useless sense features.
Revolution would probably be the smoothest and most stable Sense 3.0 Rom. Leedroid is a good sense 2.1 rom (The new sense 3.0 version is somewhat glitchy). You can also try the V6 Supercharge script [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278299]
CM7 nightlies (I'm on 220 at present) have always worked very nicely for me, together with the latest radio and matching RIL. I generally have the LCD density set to around 190-200.
The only thing I missed coming from Sense was the calendar and bookmark widgets, replacements for these can be found using Android Pro Widgets on the market.
Why anyone would use Sense is a mystery to me. It's slow, bloated and battery life is horrible compared to CM7. Also beware MIUI as in my experience the battery drain on standby can be horrific - not sure if that has been sorted out in the most recent version though.
I apologize if some thought I was being out of line getting upset but sitting, watching the thread sit and the views count going up, and nobody bothering to make a suggestion was pretty upsetting. I know we are in different time zones, and I would understand if that was the case and nobody was in the forum to lend a hand, but that wasn't the case, people were taking the time to read it and move on and post to other threads, that's why I got upset.
For the people that took the time and help me out I thank you, I hope I can squeeze time today before my friend has to fly back home to do his phone and put something stable enough for his every day use.

If you like what all HTC can do with Sense 3.5 on Android, check out RCMix Runny 1.5 or RCMix Bliss 1.3 ROMs. Stable releases with fixes coming often for issues if any.
For a stable release with Sense 3 and latest gingerbread, check Android Revolution HD (most widely used ROM for DHD).
But, the best thing you can do is try as many ROM's as you can and use each for atleast a week. I could not stand MIUI which many like for whatever reasons they have.
Can someone tell me which ROM has the best battery life?
In my little experience i can say:
-the fastest Sense 3 Rom i've used was the Pyramid3d 1.1
-the nicest one with all the new Sense 3.5 feature, stable and smooth, is the Runny3D and i must say love Sense 3.5!
Now i'm on BlackIce,very speed and for now i've got the best battery life but i'm using it since yesterday so i must test well... Thanks to IceTool Dolby and SRS are working too .
So if you wont AOSP Rom i think BlackIce is the best one!
(Sorry for bad english!)

RCMix3d 3.0 or Android Revolution HD 6.1.2

which rom do you prefer?
Pros/cons
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
I prefer to use RCMix3d Runny v3.0 personally. Experiencing original sense 3.5 is awesome . the only bug you will see is the 720p videos. you can solve this problem by using free video player apps like "MX Video player" or "MoboPlayer".
RCMix3D Runny v3 is fantastic. Moved to this from LeeDroid. I have used Revolution HD as well.
My rating would be
RCMix
LeeDroid
Revolution
in that order.
Frankly, after using MIUI none of the Sense or other roms made me feel satisfied. I like the usefulness of the MIUI. But I don't like the UI so much. It's simple and all but you need so much extra-apps or widgets to make it your way. I guess till HTC decides to do sth new for DHD, I will go on using MIUI.
(The biggest pro of Sense was scrollable and set of widgets Sense provide. That you can have with MIUI too now. If you don't want fancy looks and all, MIUI is giving everything you need really smoothly.)
The Android Revolution HD is much faster and stabler. I did use RCMix Runny and Sensation rom's and they are little buggy and sometimes slow too.
But that's just my opinion.
depends on what exactly you prefer
if you like stability and very good support (trust me ..it matters)(actualy i think it has the BEST SUPPORT ON XDA ...but is my opinion)
than ANDROID REVOLUTION is by FAAAAR the CHOICE
the philosophy of Android Revolution is to be as closed to the HTC BASE
The ROM is EXTREMELY STABLE, almost BUG -free , fast and very good with battery
Now if you prefer to have the latest Stuff (and usually the Newbies do ) , than Runny is the choice for you. Capychimp is a great developer, probably the Best in mater of Porting stuf, also very few bugs, and good support
my opinion is that you have to chose between these to(LeeDroid is also very good but Revolution is better and for me MIUI is not an Options since SENSE was one of the reasons that i buy an HTC)
so long story short
For the HYPE...Runny
For the STABILITY...Android Revolution (in my opinion , the BEST ROM, and i've tried from Cyanogen to MIUI....but is always a matter of taste )
