I'm constantly receiving error or force close for these two: PVWmdrmProxy and PVWmdrmService.
Can someone tell me what are these and is it safe to remove these?
These came pre-installed with Virtuous unity v1.25.0 rom, and my device is HTC desire z.
Late response, but FWIW I get the same error too on version 1.31.
There's a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136439
I may try doing a 'superwipe' as they suggest when I upgrade to the next version of unity.

I figured out why it keeps force closing. The unity rom only has very little free ram so the android system says that the pv apps are the least important out of the system apps and kills them to create more free ram.

Ah, that makes sense.
I've just talked a friend of mine into parting with his Inspire 4G so when I get my hands on it fingers crossed the ram issue won't come up as much

Pulled the apk from the Desire Z dump and tried to run it on my G2 but it failed , Wondering what else i would need to get this to work
i don't think it will work just like that. you need a lot of sense or such to make it work that's why it never made its way to cyanogenmod .. miui guys from japan know how to do it but i don't think they want to tell how to do it.
You can't run any sence app on anything besides the rosie launcher. You can sometimes install it but it won't work, the app is written deep in the framework.

Kernel most likely doesn't support it.

Something is definitely missing
Just to see what I got, I downloaded the attached APK and used adb to install it, and then ran “adb logcat” while trying to launch it. The result is that it force closes right away, and from the output of logcat it looks like it is definitely missing some sort of libraries.
I'd post the thing but it's huge. Essentially, though, it winds up crashing because it expects something to be present that isn't; that's likely this sense thing that others have mentioned.
I suggest reading (and following along with) the thread in the Nexus One forum about getting FM Radio going on that phone. My guess is that whatever those guys come up with should also allow FM Radio on the G2 once it becomes possible to modify the G2 kernel to get the relavent drivers running.
Like its been mentioned it usually requires sense and the kernel to support it. Only the sense roms on the nexus one could use it. Not a developer at all but from what I understand so far, it is what is required.

it's working on the n1.. i assume you will need root to use it so if u plan not to root then don't expect to see it. for now thanks miui for the help.
Isn't the FM Radio a system app? That means that we won't be able to use it until we have write access to /system. So if you want to be able to even install it properly, you need to wait until we have root. From there we have to disassemble and find all the dependencies on the sense framework and port them back in. Also, I am sure that you'll need to use some of the corresponding libs.
Is anyone working on porting HTC Locations from the Desire Z and Desire HD to the Desire?
If not, are their any guides on getting started with this sort of project? I've done some development over the years on various platforms so I'm sure I could pick this up or contribute.
That would really be awesome. The best thing i like about the new Desire line is the HTC Locations and HTC Navigation bit.
Not sure anyone would want to take this on as you can just flash a HD rom and use it that way. The camera will be fixed eventually and that's the only issue with the hd roms. Unless you're opposed to your apps needing an ext partition.
I didn't realise you could do that, I'll head over and take a look, thanks for the info.
RCMixHD is best HD rom at the minute. Requires an EXT partition on your sdcard. Minimum 512mb i recommend at least 700mb one though. No Swap partition also.
Once you have the rom installed you must download Maps through it for anything to work (poi etc). UK maps were 400mb+
EDIT:
Also bear in mind that the camera doesn't work yet as a lot of stuff needs editing for it to work. The guys are working hard for it.

There are other things I'm not very found in the HD roms.
For once everything is smaller giving the lower dpi that the HD has compared to our Desire. One example is the keyboard that was almost useless if you have bigger fingers although I saw that's been fixed by replacing it with the Desire Z keyboard. But there are other stuff too.
I do think porting the HTC Location is a better way but I might think this is not so easy. For once will you able to legally buy the navigation part after you download the maps if you have another device that the Desire HD? And if you reflash are you still able to use the license and not pay again.
So I do think you're right about people not jumping in on this, but it would be great though
Yeah it's a shame really. The best we can hope for is for HTC to update our Desires with a new Sense rom that fits on Nand...could be asking too much of HTC there though!
Smaller DPI is SO much better, makes it look smooth - much prefer it to normal Sense on the Desire

It's a special file or partition where the OS stores less used data from RAM so that more RAM is available for apps that need it

According to a news site I follow in Denmark, it was confirmed by HTC on a press meeting in China earlier this month, that the new Sense (and support for htcsense.com) will become available for HTC Desire through a future update sometime before 2011.
The news came from a translation of this tw page:
http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/?prod_id=4018&tid=4520460
I'm not sure if Locations will be a part of this (rumoured) update, but it wouldn't make sense not to include it, imo.
HTC Locations
Hi, I was wondering, has anyone revisited this? I'm really curious if it's possible to launch HTC Locations on a rooted Desire with CM7.1
Anyone tried it yet?
Saw there's lots of APK's out there already to install it - tried it on unrooted, latest unbranded firmware and working ok - looks different, but seems to be fairly similar...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...roid+market+2.2.6&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=
I think most of the update though is for behind-the-scenes stuff - like the refund timer of 15 mins rather than 24 hr, apk size limit increased etc.
Out of interest, does anyone know how this would get rolled out normally? Does the market update itself? as you can't search for it in the market...
AFAIK, it only works on Froyo for now.
Yep....only for devices running 2.2......if only i did'nt have CyanogenMod i would have installed it.......hmmmm seems it has only a 15 minute refund window

CyanogenMod is 2.2 (well 2.2.1, but I thought it would work on that too?).
Yes I tried. It works on my desire very well. Smoothly. Give us some beautiful weight.

I read the google blog thing that it was designed and will be rolled out for all devices 1.6+
Not too sure about the big green banner along the top- looks like a bit of a waste of space to me... also I thought there were new categories for widgets and live wallpapers?
Got it on my Desire and it works great for me. I think its a great improvement. Running a stock WWE ROM here. There's more info and download links here http://www.eurodroid.com/2010/12/new-android-market-includes-support-for-tablet-displays/

Is the change on the update window based on your market version?

Banner is great IMHO for the starting page but not on each app page. Wasted large banner space at the top and in large areas, fonts and padding dedicated for your review/similar sections (poor screen estate efficiency). They should shrink that all down, especially the font. Smoother UI and better in some respects but I preferred tabs much more (for sections I rarely use) as well as the fact that I can't manually stop/restart installs on this version anymore, like I was forced to do with previous versions due to recurring buggy market installs that get stuck.

Nope lol. I've been google stalking it but can't find it anywhere.
I signed up.. Still waiting. I'm sure once they start sending out links for this it will be on here.
I also was able to sign up before it was closed. No word yet. Hope they're not c*ck blocking on us custom rom users.
I also missed the signups, but I hope I can get my hands on the beta version because the one they have in the market is killing me!
Any update

did u actually get a private beta version sent to you? 1.6 is available in the android market and its practically unchanged
Just the one that's on the Market, I guess 1.6 isn't the beta we are looking for.
Has anyone installed the update? Many comments in Market about problems since updating to this version...
Guess not! I have the update installed, no problems but there's nothing new.

Still loads of bugs,
Cant get into friends with a force close.
Messages broken, they don't sync properly.
Also to rub salt into the wound, the have FULL access to your text messages with no legitimate reason. Poor effort. Might have to find the 1.5.4 apk.
I'll keep my 1.5.1 Works good even with friends. Anything after was a nightmare.
Im using Cyanogen V7.1-RC1 and seems like LauncherPro doesnt sync my Facebook events to LauncherPro Calendar widget or normal Calendar like it used (Theres only option to sync contacts in settings) before.
Not sure if the problem occured with Nightly build 119 which I used before, but Im pretty sure it worked with that, and ofc. with Sense based roms.
Is the problem now with LauncherPro or with Cyanogen? Or maybe even with the Facebook app?
Argh!!! Its all changed!! Suddenly about 15 mins ago it seemed to completely reload and now looks "improved" For the record, I previously force closed and cleared cache / data so this is just weird.
Cons:
Friends still force closes though
Pros:
Filters on friend feed.. Yay, finally get rid of pages of stupid game updates.
Looks and feels smoother. (I'm on Wifi though)
Craig
If you are having problems I really suggest running a fix_permissions from RM or from terminal, it solves most of my problems for me. I updated a few days ago but it suddenly changed for me too. The new news feed is pretty nice and I love how I can like comments now. Pages seem to be so-so but better than nothing. Chat actually seems to be working!
I don't use launcherpro but if I'm not mistaken, it uses its own client completely separate from the official facebook app so the new update shouldn't be affecting anything.
I'm running latest cm7.2 nightly, and can't download the new Firefox from play store. It says your device is incompatible. Is anyone able to download it.
Yeah looks like it's not compatible or restricted to some device. I'd look for an apk and try to sideload it. lol
Something's different compared to 7.1 - it works on there. Haven't figured it out yet, assume some form of market config.
Anybody got the apk?
