Have just acquired a Touch Pro 2 on eBay, and am now thinking about getting an SD card for it. I assume the TP2 supports SDHC...?
I can get a 16GB class 2 card for about £30, or a 16GB class 6 card for £50. Am I likely to notice much actual difference in speed between the two when used with a TP2?
Depends.
In day to day usage of the TP2, no I don't really think so. You're not going to be able to take pictures any faster (the camera isn't capable of fast shooting), movies will run fine from a slow card. Maybe searching through your email would be a bit faster, if you have a lot, but I can't imagine it will be significant.
Where you would see a difference is if you take your SDHC card out of the TP2 and put it into a PC for dumping lots of data on it at once - for example, copying over lots of MP3s or movies. If you're transferring multiple GBs at a time direct from a PC, you will notice a worthwile % increase with the faster cards.
So if you do that regularly it might be worth it. If you tend to change the data on the card only infrequently, then I doubt it is.
Personally I will be getting a slow card. I only have a fast card SD card for my Digital SLR camera, where the faster card enables more shots to be taken per second.
whatever you do do not get a Transcend class6 16Gb card. They are not compatible. I know there's a thread listing card compatibility in the rhodium forum, but I couldn't find it now.

firstly i beleive the class relates to write and not read speed.
second do not buy a card off ebay whatever you do.
i have come accross an a-data 16gb class 6 in my searches. in the end i got 8gb class 4 from play for a tenner delivered. may get a 16gb if i ever hit the limit. by then the price will have dropped to reasonable level.
i had a 2gb in my xperia and never filled it. i have a ipod touch for music and a netbook.

all the cards i have ever bought off ebay have been fakes.
some have worked but been slow. others have corrupt sectors. some have failed all together. thankfully last time pay pal refunded me.

buy the card if you want. that site has programs you can test it with to determine if its legit. i will never buy a memory card from ebay again.
Class only deals with write speeds, not read speeds BUT if the card has a higher write speed, it will normally have a higher read speed as well. (Though it's not a set rule).
Thx for the heads up. I think i'm going to risk it anyways. This seller has been on there since 2000 and has sold a ridiculous amount of flash memory ~20,000. I would hope the system would show some signs of fakery over that span of time.

I decided I didn't really need 16GB of storage anyway, and ordered an 8GB class 6 card - a SanDisk Ultra. Got it from these guys on Amazon UK Marketplace.
They have a pretty high turn-over - nearly 30,000 ratings in the past year. I also used this tool to check whether the card was genuine or counterfeit. It passed with flying colours (no errors at all) so I think it's probably the real deal.
A quick, informal test (copying a 700MB file onto the card) suggested it was writing at about 12.5MB/s when the card was connected directly to the PC's USB port, and about 5.5 MB/s when accessed via the phone (in disk-drive mode). That suggests that the phone might get some benefit from a class 6 card, although it's hard to be sure. Certainly this a is a VERY fast card when removed from the phone and connected straight to the PC. (In fact the testing software rated it even higher - 14.9MB/s write, and 17.5MB/s read).
No reliability problems of the sort associated with the Trascend cards (although I'm not sure that affects 8GB cards anyway).
Trancend 16GB Class 6
I currently have a Trancend 16GB Class 6 and it works just fine.
I only buy cards from Sandisk and usually from amazon. EBay has a lot of fakes on it! I have a 16GB Class 2 from amazon that I picked up for $40. Speed test while in Disk Drive mode through the phone show a Write speed of 3.8MB/s and 6.4MB/s read speed. I have 10GB filled so far and It didn't really take that long to do. I'd say if you were filling the card up with 10GB of new music a day then yeah those speed suck but for a few big loads just to get it started no big deal to me.
I can stream a 800x480 AVC ~1.2Mbit off the card with no hiccups. So I'm not worrie about the speed considering anything more then that the processor becomes the bottleneck not the card.

I just recieved an A-Data 16GB Class 6 from ebay. Seems to be fine, passed memory test with no errors @ 8.9MB/S write and 15.1MB/sec read.
Worth the money just copying video and music files to the drive via pc. Way faster than my previous 8GB Class 2. Don't notice any real difference in the phone tho.

Try playing a few songs with the manila musictab with the screen turned off..
I had a Transcend 16Gb class6 that disconnected if I tried that. I had to reboot to get the card to register in the Phone.
Been out on the road for work all week using music over bluetooth and co-pilot 8 heavily. Working like a charm.....maybe i just got lucky.
I'm putting my $0.02 on the table on MicroSDHC cards. Basically for those of you that want faster data transfer on a larger card like an 8GB or 16GB MicroSDHC, it can make a difference but beware of brands that are not well known and their transfer speeds. The Class ratings on the MicroSDHC cards only apply to their guaranteed throughput rates and are NOT indicative of the actual speed experienced on the cards. I've seen some Class 2 Sandisk cards outperform Class 6 A-Data cards before which is a little scary.

I have been Googling this for days now, and coulden't find any conclusive information, especially since most of it was from random tech blogs and not respected tech/research sites.
I am looking to buy two MicroSDHC cards to use in a Photofast CR-5400 ( http://www.amazon.com/PhotoFast-CR-5400-MicroSD-Adapter-Dual/dp/B001I0T92Q ), speed and performance are pretty important as I will he handling a lot of data through it.
First of all before I start, anybody familiar with this adapter? Where would be the best place to purchase one so I don't wind up with a Hong-Kong bootleg? Ive had trouble purchasing flash memory online before from places like Amazon or Ebay where the memory was a bootleg that didn't perform anything like the real thing.
Now, I know that Memory Stick Pro DUO devices are generally faster than SD or SDHC devices, but AFAIK that device sets them up in a RAID 0 configuration so I am hoping that will help, this is why im trying to get the best performance MicroSDHC cards I can afford. And trying to get reliable information on these things has been a lesson in confusion.
First of all, it almost seems like the class speeds don't matter. Ive seen benchmarks that showed class 4 or class 2 cards outperform a class 6. Whats the point of these classes if they are so meaningless? How can a class 2 device have faster write speeds than a class 6? And is this classification only for writing or reading too? Why are the "ultra" models of some cards, which are supposed to be very high speed, listed as class 4?
Second, I heard that there are other variables that usually are not listed anywhere, such as Random Access Times, which from what I read are internal processes taking place in the card itself rather than having anything to do with the card reading/writing to whatever it is plugged into. And I really have no idea what else could be a factor.
I was looking at THIS Transcend card ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208475 ) mainly because the previous 8GB version ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208453 ) seems to be the best one you can possibly get, the 8GB model is class 6, rated as very high speed, and even has a low Random Access Time. But that doesn't mean that just because the previous model was good, the next one will be of the same quality, and on top of that I don't know if it'll even matter in that Photofast adapter or not. Not to mention its kinda pricey, don't forget that I will need to buy two as well as the adapter (though since the 16GB Memory Sticks came out at over $200 and they are barely around $100 now, and the 32GB still isn't out yet, I am going to assume it will still be at least $50 cheaper than just buying a 32GB Memory Stick............ when they come out).
So what would you recommend I do? Where can I find information that makes sense of this? Where can I find good benchmarks/testing done on these cards that on top of speed measures the other factors as well? Where would be the best place in the US, retail or online, to purchase such a 16GB MicroSDHC card for the best price?

what are you using the Memory card for? (what application, video/photo taking, loading applications...)
Class X just says the minimum write speeds on an empty(defragmented) card... 2 means 2MB/s write, 4 means 4MB/s etc...
some SDHC cards also come with another rating... 133x that says max 20MB/s speed, depending on the manufacturer, that may be write or read speed
best place to buy is directly from Newegg/Tigerdirect, or from Amazon fulfilled by Amazon itself or a reputable merchant

Patriot 8gb class 4- very slow from pc to card ???
Anyone having any current luck with Patriot 8GB Class 4 micro sd's?
I copied everything from my PNY 2GB to my netbook. Very quick as expected...
Formatted the Patriot FAT32. Tried to copy back to the 8GB from the netbook and it was painfully slow. So slow it is not usable.
Both pc and Tilt recognizes the Patriot as 8gb.
Anyone having similar problems or any suggestions?

Took about 12-15 minutes to copy back to card.
It appears to be a formatting problem with the XP fomatting.

Tried the Wife's new HP laptop (school issued) last night and had the same problem. That pointed me to a possible card issue.
Moral of the story- google is your friend.
Just to be safe, I would stay away from Patriot's 8GB C4 cards.
I would just try another brand of microsd card. Sandisk are reputable but usually the most expensive, though on amazon 8gb cards can be had for less than 20 bucks. Kingston is another good brand.
I know speeds are:
Class 4 - Minimum of 4 MB/s performance.
Class 6 - Minimum of 6 MB/s performance.
Class 10 - Minimum of 10 MB/s performance.
Can the Galaxy S even get up to class 10 if I go that route?

Yes the Vibrant can make full use of the fastest chips out there.
Spend a few dollars more at Newegg and get a good chip from a known maker (Crucial, PNY, Micron, etc). The stuff is pretty cheap anyways....worth a few bucks just for piece of mind.

Crucial and the other he mentioned are way more ereliable and have a better burst capacity (ability to write for shot periods of time faster than normal benchmark).

I dont know much about phone memory. i'll be getting my first smart phone this week (vibrant). I followed the link and the only company you had listed that i saw was PNY and they only sold cards at class 4 speeds. So besides kingston and patriot are the other's ok? Centon had a few class 6 cards that i was looking at. Or perhaps i should be asking are there any other companies i should stay away from?

A lot of brands are okay. Well, that is if you buy it from a legit retailer and not from ebay where there is a chance for you to get a fake one.
Sandisk, PNY, Kingston, Adata, Transcend (I have a class 6 one), Crucial, and etc. They are all about the same. Go to Newegg for reviews.

I wouldn't say "impatient" but sometimes we have better things to do than sit there and wait for a file to finish transferring. Especially big files.
Usually files don't really get big enough on phones for 4mbs to be a huge problem.
But I'm not going to argue with you, the faster the better definitely. The good thing is there usually isn't a big difference in price between the different classes if you're shopping in the right places either.
the stock card is a class 4. I have an 8GB class 6 from my G1 days when we were doing 3 partitions on one card (crazy to me now). Does it matter? Yeah... Is it worth spending a lot of money on? Matter of opinion... how much are you using the sd card for read/write? I use the internal memory most.
I can see speed being an issue if you're taking a lot of pictures and video and saving to SD card. I usually use my external just for music, so Class 2 is fine for that (still, wouldn't turn down a Class 6 card if the cost differential were slight).
I'm going to buy a 16GB microsd card from sandisk. I've been finding on Amazon and found these two products:

well in some pages you can find comparative boxes about those micro sd, i remember that microsd 16 gb sandisk (class4) is more faster than 16 gb kingtons class4 , so i supousse that this ultra micro sd is like class 6 real XD, i will find some information about it, oh plz don't forget that some devices don't support those kind of micro sd (an example htc hd2 has little bugs with microsd class 4, i have one...)

the ultra one has the better speed and more stable than the normal one. And, it has the same compatitablity.
So, if you are not concern about the price, the ultra one is the better choice.
Also, that should have the extreme III type, that is the best~

16GB Sandisk Micro SDHC
I'm currently using 16GB Sandisk Micro SDHC (class 4) for my LG P500. It is fast & I have not encountered any issues so far.
I've been using Sandisk memory cards for other gadgets & I think it is one of the most reliable brands that is available in my location.
With sandisk/kingston, class 2 should be fine too. CLASS 4 might help recording high def video
Stick with the name brands and forget the Chinese non name brand off off of Flea-bay, they are crap and do not work imho!!
The more expensive cards are usually just higher speed.
I use fast cards in my DSLR to help when shooting bursts. Slower cards fill up, and drop the fps.

You should choose your memory card depending on what you're going to use it for. Either way, you should go with Sandisk cards, as they are the highest quality and produce their own chips. Kingstons should be avoided even though for some reason they are known as a quality brand... kingston just buys chips from other manufacturers and puts their name on them.... you will find many different kinds of chips inside kingston, so you will find more variation and defects from batch to batch.
As far as class, that is only referring to the sequential write speed. If you are getting the card for a digital camera, then a high class card is good, because you will be writing a lot of files sequentially.
But if you plan on using the card for WP7 or to run android of off, generally a class 2 or 4 card is better, because they have better random access speeds. The tweaks card makers do to make cards have higher sequential write speeds many times will lower the random access speed, so you will have more issues running WP7 or Android off of a class 6 or 10 card.
for 8gb ultra i got with usb2.0 card reader : 13mb/s write , 20.5mb/s read

I know thread is too old to write anything. But still (since google pointed me here)...
I've used both types of cards and have found that Sandisc ultra (Red & Black) is far better in speeds and reliability than the Sandisc simple/normal black colour chips. Also know that there are further/more better than ultra, called by Sandisc as extreme and Extreme Pro.
Also warranty for all is same: Lifetime. And Sandisc provided me a new chip within 25 days after my old 32 normal chip went faulty.

I would always buy a class 10 card, because when you copy your photos it doesn't take so much time...
I discovered - the hard way - that "normal" class 2 or 4 MicroSD cards won't stay alive very long on Samsung Note 4 or similar phones... One day they stop working and all pictures and info is lost forever. The only MicroSD that can get the job done is a Class 10 UHC Sandisk card. I have used Kingston and all died only after a few months, specially if you install apps on them. They can´t handle the workload and you will end up losing everything you have on them. I have one of the red and gray Sandisk cards and it's awesome. It's fast and it's still working after 2 and a half years of use in a Sony Xperia Z2. Gotta love this little tough card.
First do yourself a favor and tape your micro SD card to the phone with a little piece of Scotch tape. I received the 200GB SanDisk Ultra for free when I purchased the V10 and unfortunately while swapping batteries in the dark the Micro SD card came loose and fell out. Huge bummer given the cost.
Spilled milk aside I've decided to replace it with a Samsung Evo Plus 256 GB micro SD (true usable 238). They can be had on ebay for about $70-90. The 200 GB SanDisk Ultra is about the same. Crazy because these things were nearly $200 early in 2015. I happened to have 64 GB Samsung Pro but quickly filled it up with my YouTube Red subscription and Google Play movies and surprisingly there weren't as many videos as I thought would fit. So I figure go for the big Kahuna.
I decided on Samsung after reading that they had had a better track record with stability than SanDisk.
Anyone else using the 256 Samsung how good is 95mb/s for a power user phone like this? Is there lag? There seems to be a great deal of variance in performance for micro SD which does not entirely square with price.
I am pretty sure most Note 7 users have 256s.... Me & My wife have them installed. Haven't run test. It works... Holds all my pics, movies and roms.
95 (MB) OR (Mb)/s. Huge difference. And I don't know of any phone that will do the rated MB. I usually get 12-25MB out of my 128/200GB cards, usually around 15ish. That translates to about 96Mb-160Mb/s. The new UFS cards Samsung started talking about will probably get close to SATA3 speeds which amounts to around 500MB/s, which in real life will probably mean a out 3-400MB/s and I am being optimistic. Nonetheless when phones start coming out with UFS micro slots they should be as snappy as internal storage, mostly. Random IOPS will probably be a lot better but less than 100MB/s I would guess.
And I am talking about phones. Rated speeds will usually be about 20-50% of advertised speed. Closer to 80% or so in a computer. OEM's tend not put the best hardware for micro SD cards in phones. I would guess because of real estate and possibly heat and battery. Nonetheless, I hadn't planned on buying the V20 but the multimedia capabilites were too hard to pass up and my final cost after promotions and a couple of phone sales will probably be less than $400. If I include amps and DACs closer to $200. My next phone will have UFS for micro slot. No doubt.
Won't UFS come at a much higher cost premium and will the practical speed improvement for phone storage really justify the cost if the prices for these huge capacity micro SD's are collapsing?

If I remember, seeing that UHS 3 cards have two rows of pins on them for faster transfer speeds, but I don't believe any phone supports that second row of pins yet.
Oh yea i forgot to mention that i almost had a similar incident you had. Upon recalling my note 7 I put my memory card in that plastic casting and in my pocket.... somehow the memcard slip out and out of my pocket.. Luckily after searching around I call best buy and ask my old coworkers if they see any memcard around and they did =D... it be bad if they didn't.....

I have a 128 gb SDXC micro sd that worked fine on my v10 but isnt even showing up as a option on my v20 . the settings app only shows internal storage. I really dont want to format it but guess might have to . but I have a lot of files on there and don't want to transfer them as even deleted on a computer they still leave a trace

Yeah the reason you see those cards for that cheap is because Samsung flooded the market with 256gb cards with the Note 7 and then S7/Edge promo where they gave them for free. I have 2(one in my V20) and am selling my second one (hopefully today) for $80

LG figured rather than offer another free 200 GB SanDisk card the V20 buyers can buy all those Samsung 256 GB cards flooding Ebay and sell the B&O headphones to offset. Thanks Samsung!

All micro sd cards are compatible with the V20.
I can confirm that V20 can't read micro SD UFS-1. I bought Samsung 128GB micro SD EVO+ and Kingston 128GB micro SD UFS-1, but both can't be detected by V20. I feel very strange and confirm that these two card can be read by V10.

Wrong! These two cards are brand new and can be used on PC ,V10 or my wife"s Samsung Note 3. Unfortunately, my V20 can't support them.
