CID and goldcards - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
I have lost my goldcard that I create when my HTC desire GSM phone was brand new, and untouched.
Is it still possible to get my correct CID, my phone has been rooted, and S-off with alpharev 1.8.
I have also flashed a custom rom loaded, but still have a backup of my old virginmobile rom.
Basically I'm trying to create a goldcard, incase I need to go back to stock.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I don't have first hand experience of this so you should wait for confirmation from someone with experience but I'm sure I read recently that a goldcard image is specific to an sdcard but not tied to a particular phone.
If this is correct you should be able to create a new goldcard image for your current sdcard and use that.
Steve

Yes You are correct.. Goldcard has nothing to do with the phone.. but it is a sd card.... so goto this link and create a goldcard anytime..http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
If you have any problem with adb thing.. then .. search for an app in market called goldcard helper... its free.. and it will give you reverse CID of ur sd card.. which you can use to create .img file.. hope you got it.. reply if its not clear.

Thanks guys, appreciate your help.
New goldcard successfully created. ;-)

TIP: I always make my current in use sdcard in to a gold card.never had any issues with this approach and you always know where it is!
Sent with Desire.

The only issue while using a partitioned card as gold card is that the pb99img on it might not be recognized by the update process. The partitions would usually have to be deleted to leave a single fat 32 partition

I have not experienced that issue. I have now a32GB card with 28gb fast 32 followed by 1gb Ext4 partition.

[Q] Help ! debranding desire HD vodafone dont work :@ !

hi all,
I got a HTC Desire HD from vodafone with hboot 0.85.0018 and rom version 1.75.
I want to debrand this so i made a goldcard (tried with MMC1 and MMC2 as described everywhere). i used modaco's goldcard tool and when i loaded the goldcard img and pressed 'patch MMC' it says succesfully created goldcard.
So i putted the debranded zip on the sdcard. it loads the zip but then gives the error 'main version is older blablab'.
i think this is related to the goldcard right?
I made a goldcard like 5 times again and with another micro sd card but it all didnt work.
so now i cant debrand my desire HD
Please if someone can help me!!
thanks in advance!
Nick
and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 doesnt work for you?
So I think Vodafone 1.75 is Android 2.2.1. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On top of the gold card you will also have to follow the procedure for downgrade to 1.32 (Android 2.2). Otherwise you won't be able to flash an older rom version over the existing software.
There is a guide to the downgrade procedure stickied in the development section.
Someone swyped my idea.

oops forgotten. i if course did that procedure too. but stil wont downngrade. its verry weird.
and yes its android 2.2.1
Are you using a low capacity sd card? Gold card won't work on sdhc, only sd. Use a 1 or 2 gb card.
Only other thing I could suggest is using a hex editor to insert the code manually, just to eliminate all possible errors.

yep i used to micro SD cards from 2gb.. and i insrted it manually too lol
Well im gonna try MMC1 on my 1 sd card and MMC2 on my other sd card in minutes and check if it works then .
So i just format as fat32 then make goldcard with MMC2.
Then put the zip on the SD card and insert it in my phone.
Then follow the downgrade process and check if it installs the zip right?
IT WORKS! it starts the update

[Q] PB99DIAG.ZIP No Image

Hi,
I have been using HTC Desire A8183 for a while and have just swapped to A8181 for Optus network. I have taken out my 32Gb Card from the A8183 and placed it in the new A8181 after I have rooted and flash AmonRA V2.0 recovery. Except I cannot get into recovery from Vol - plus Power button unless I wait a long time for it to look for PD99DIAG.ZIP image which it does not find. If I put a smaller 2Gb sd card in it is fine and goes through to recovery quickly.
Can someone please help and steer me in the right direction, is it a problem with the SD card, am I missing something?
And yes its the new Desire PVT4 (40000) if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
Have a look on your 32GB card for the PD99 file. I guess it is sorting through it if there is one. If it's bothering you that much, backup your SD card, then just format it and see if that works. But please backup.
Thanks I had a look and could not see the File, should it be in the root of the sdcard?

Only if your looking to update something.

the PB files are stock images and unless you have one on the SD card it shouldn't find one. The only time you'd use a PB99IMG.zip is when flashing it after extracting it from an RUU as you can't get an RUU to run
You also can't change from from A8181 to A8183
Thanks For your input and understand what you are saying I just don't know why my phones spend 10 minutes scanning for this image before loading the recovery. It should see there is no file and go straight to the recovery. Funny thing is I put a 2gb micro SD in with nothing in it and no problems straight into recovery, put my 16gb or 32gb micro SD in and I have to wait for this process of searching for this pb99diag image and nhh file etc. I don't understand is it the large size micro SD causing this?

I am also having this problem, but it started only after I partitioned my SD card with GPart into EXT, Swap and FAT32 partitions and then installed the MIUI FROYO ROM

Sorry to comment on my own post but I resolved the above problem by doing a Clockworkmod backup, Wiping User data & Dalvik cache and then flashing xavierjohn22's "MIUI XJ A2SD/A2SD+ 1.3.25 - 2.3 x1"
This was a PIA as I had to re install Titanium Backup, but then, at least I was able to use it to recover most of my data and apps from the TB backup made before my Superuser became corrupt.
The upside is that I now have the Excellent Gingerbread version of MIUI.

[Q]Can't downgrade from gingerbread!

Hi everyone,
Ive been trying to downgrade my DHD for a while now but it just doesn't work! Im using jkoljo's guide > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
I can make a gold card fine, but when i do this step in cmd
./data/local/tmp/GingerBreak
on my phones screen i can see it saying "safe to remove sd card" and then i cant access the disk drive option to place the PD98IMG.zip on there.
If i restart the phone i can see the sd card again.
Just now i tried getting into the bootloader with vol - and power button and it freezes if my sd card is in the phone but works absolutely fine if the sd card is not? if it helps im using a samsung 8gb sd card
Please help its doing my head in!
Thanks in advance!

first step is not Jkoljo´s guide.... its efrant guide for gingerbreak

well theres a file called gingerbreak in the downgrade zip in jkoljos guide so assumed that would work, im just looking at efrants guide now ill try it out and post back as soon as i can
just out of curiosity, that guide is posted in the nexus one forum, will it still work on the DHD?
No it will not work. I wonder why ppl keep linking threads across forums.. It is like trying to fit Audi exhaust pipe to BMW.. Just won't work.

Even I had lots of problem with Goldcard. Try different cards for it to work. Also if the PD98IMG.zip from jkoljo's guide gives you wrong image error, then try downloading a 1.32 RUU that almost resembles your system config.
For example I am from India and because I couldnt get my hands on a 1.32 India RUU, I downloaded the Asia RUU and it worked.!!

I read in another post that someone else had problems with the goldcard aswell and the solution to his problem was to use mmc4 instead.
Perhaps you should try that? Otherwise it sounds like you should try another memory card.

[Q] Changing sd cards after ace hack kit - advice needed

Hi there,
I hope someone can give me a little advice on this matter as I can't find the answers I'm looking for so far.
I have basically flashed my first rom on my dhd using ace hack kit to root and s-off my device and make a goldcard as it was locked to t-mobile. Everything has worked fine and I flashed runnydroid no problem at all. Becuse It was my first time flashing I used a new 8gb sd card so I could start fresh. I have filled this sd card up really quickly and would like to swap it for my 16gb card I am wondering if this will cause issues with the gold card and other files.
If I clean my new card can I just transfer all files over from the current sd card can I just carry on or will the card need to be partitioned and so on? Can someone just give me a heads up on what I need to do?
Thanks in advance

You should be fine with the goldcard thing! If not just redo the process. HOWEVER! When you move the files from the old SD card to the new one remember to take ALL the files. Including hidden ones. Very important!

You can format your SD card after doing the rooting. You can make gold card any time. If you still sceptical about this keep all the files somewhere safe. Specially the file start with "part7" which contains important information regarding partition when stock ROM was installed. This is most important file, rest you can delete IMO. SD card doesn't need any partition, just format it with FAT32.
Be gracious, hit "Thanks" if my post helped you.

[Q] Changing SD-Card

Hey,
I'm selling my HTC Desire so I want to change the SD card back to the original one. I'm using 8GB and want to switch to 4GB. My Desire is rooted with the SGBS Rom on top.
I tried to just copy the data from the 8GB card to the 4gig (deleted MP3s and stuff) and inserted the 4gig in the phone. But all I got was a bootloop. The 8gig is working fine still.
Can you guys tell me what to do now? Would be so nice.

make an ext partition on the 4gb one
How do I do that? Through the recovery?
easiest way is with a program - gparted

Or via 4ext recovery

Or via reading some of the plethora of available guides on how to do that.
Or simply run a RUU. Selling a phone in any other state than full stock is pure idiocy in my book.

+1 on that
Unless you already have a person lined up for buying the (rooted) phone off you already, why narrow the potential buyer range?
I'll avoid creating another topic and ask here. I just bought an 8gb card for my Desire (originally it has a 4gb one). I don't have a A2SD or anything like that currently, but I possible will in the future. The phone is rooted, S-OFFed and runs MIUI. What I did. Made a nandroid backup, copied it and titanium backup files to the desktop using SD adapter, the inserted the 8gig card into the phone, partitioned it with the help of CWR. So I' ve created a 256mb EXT4 partition, 32mb SWAP one, the rest is FAT32. Then I've put the nandroid backup to the new card, booted to recovery and tried to restore it. But the MD5 sum was wrong.. WTF? Am I doing something wrong? Cheers for any help?
