not exactly sure....when u tried each cab, did u completely uninstall and delete all traces of each build including the fsck files? alot of times if not, and u try to install a new one, itll stick pick up the old data and mix with the new and cause issues. The one to try thats the easiest is the AOSP. data and service works off tops without doing anything.
try this...whatever cab u got in there..uninstall it...then ...go into file explorer or whatever and delete any and all traces of the previous build. after that, if u have clear temp or clean ram, use that. then soft reset.
get the build cab of ur choice, but id recommend the AOSP for the quickest start. download it to root of storage card which is /storage , not in a folder in storage(example /storage/programs). it has to b in the root. then install. then soft reset. once it boots back up, go to the android icon. press it..then update all the new files for the build b4 ur first boot up. u should see the tab to let u update. after update complete, then press run android...and hopefully any little issues or residual files are gone and u can complete the startup or bootup of android. let us know if that didnt wrk for ya.
ok now boots, and works fine
i'm using AOSP 2.1 updated
EDIT MY INTERNET WORKS NOW, LOL,
I'm having the same exact error on my AT&T Tilt 2 with stock ROM. I downloaded the AOSP into the storage/programs folder of the SD card, installed it to the SD card, then ran the update. After the update, I got the "Failed to mount the SD Card. Cannot Continue" error. I uninstalled the program and got rid of everything ans started from scratch with the same error.
Any idea?
Okay.... I've tried this a few times with no luck. Here is what I have:
AT&T Tilt 2 with stock ROM. I started with a fresh Hard Reset this morning (due to problems with Good Mobile Messaging) and loaded the AOSP file to my micro SD card (\Storage Card\ProjectAndroid 2.1AOSP 042610.cab). I ran a level 3 CleanRAM, then double clicked on the AOSP file on the SD card using TotalCommander. The file asked where to load it to and I chose the SD card. It successfully installed and I did a Soft Reset using the red reset button behind the battery cover.
Once turned back on I go to Start and press Project Android. Once loaded up, I went to Menu and Update. It updated successfully in about 5-10 minutes and I then clicked Run Android. The screen goes black and runs a bunch of script until it gets to this:
Welcome to Vogue Linux
Running an fsck on SD card
dosfsck 3.0.1, 23 Nov 2008, FAT32, LFN
Logical sector size is zero
mount:mounting/dev/block/mmcglkopl on/sdcard failed: Invalid argument
Failed
Failed to mount the SD card. Cannot continue
/bin/shi can't access tty; job control turned off
It then freezes at this point and stays there. I've uninstalled and removed all sources of the files (that I could find) and started from scratch several times and it does the same thing each time.
Is something wrong? Am I missing something simple?
ROM Version: 1.59.502.3 (67150) WWE
Rom date: 09/25/09
Radio Version: 4.48.25.20

is there any other info you need?
i did use this formatter

extract, install, open, select your unit, click on option, select full erase ON
let ir run..
this promise to fix this error acording to a forum that i read
outside of XDA, it can also throw that same error if you are using
a SLOW storage card.
pls report what happened so we help other people with the same issue..

No joy..... it hung up on the same screen that I quoted above for over 5 hours. I soft reset and then uninstalled the software. I guess if I'm destined to have Android, then I'll just go out and buy an Android based phone.....
i guess you didnt tried the FORMATTER that i've posted
anyways
maybe you should wait for the release of HTC VISION
or wait much looooooonger a couple of years for an official android rom
for our poor htc rhodium..
good luck.
I've searched and read guide after guide and I'm getting absolutely nowhere. I have tried to partition using ADB, I have tried to partition using a new Recovery image but I can't even change it.
Am I the only person who is having this trouble?
Can anyone see where I am going wrong....
Phone was modified using unrevoked3 and has Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 on it.
I have downloaded the SDK for windows package and extracted it to C:\Android I then run CMD in administrator mode, go to the directory and type 'adb shell'... works fine so I then disconnect and then type 'adb shell reboot recovery' and I get 'reboot: no such tool'. I have also tried rebooting the phone into recovery mode myself but when I try to connect to it via 'adb shell' it tells me there is no device (It shows in the device manager just the same as it did before). Screeched to a halt there.
Next I thought I would change the recovery image to "RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5". According to the comments in the thread I can use unrevoked to install this image. I run the program select the image, plug the phone in and away it goes. After 10 mins of it saying "waiting on root, you can safely reboot" or something like that I gave up and took the battery out as nothing was happening.
Where am I going wrong here? I am only trying to get an EXT3 partition onto the phone so that I can put the apps on there and having it run faster.
This is a VERY brief runthrough of what I have done. I have been searching for about 10 hours in total, reading guide after guide and trying to follow them. I don't even get past the first couple of steps and there is an awful lot of wrong and old information out there.
Oh, as a side note. Is there any way to have the OS boot up in 10 seconds like Sense on the desire z?
Thanks for any help, I'm at my wits end.
if you r rooted download Rom manager from market and select partition SD card
secondly u can get fast boot if you flash the hd Rom in Android development section
'adb shell reboot recovery' written in only one line leads you to nowhere, you should open the shell with 'adb shell' and then issue the command 'reboot recovery' (never used that last one so I don't know if it works).
Appart from that you should do what is said in the above post, just download ROM Manager and partition your SD from there (you will need to go back to clockworkmod, but I think you don't need to do unrevoked again since you are already root)
Thanks a lot guys. Will give this a go tomorrow.
Sounds so simple too, can't believe the way I was going about it.
if you have a cd rw on your pc, just download the gparted live cd ....... its awsome
i'm also struggling with this...also followed the methods OP has posted and getting no where..dont want to use ROM manager because i want to have around 1/2GB space for partition...ROM manager only allows a maximum of 512mb
Worked flawlessly, I can't believe how much searching I done and the answer was so simple.
Off to see what I can do with it now

Just gave this a go and it takes even longer to load lol. Once it hits the Matrix screen it's quick enough. The white screen with HTC is where it takes forever. It takes literally AGES.
The setup looked good too but I think I'll be back to froyo.

Thanks

installed ubuntu on my USB how do i partition the sd card?
Woowww 157 pages lol. My head SERIOUSLY hurts.
I managed to get the fast boot thing to work by selecting "Hibernate" rather than "Power Off". Going by the desire Z demo, it can shutdown and restart in approx 10 seconds without going into hibernation (Can't remove battery/power).
Still, I'm going to have a play around with the HD firmware you liked to. It seems to be getting very good reports
Fingers crossed on the camera getting sorted out soon.
Thanks again for your help.

Hello Everyone!
I just rooted using UnRevoked 3.0. I was installing apps on to sd card and suddenly (while installing free spades from Market) the phone just sat there at "Installing spades" and never completed. Even worse now NOTHING installs. Not even the OTA Sprint voice mail upgrade app. What I did notice is that I can't format the SD card, the option button is grayed out. When I try to unmount the card I get this error:
"Sorry! Activity SD & phone storage (in Application Settings) is not responding."
I have the option to FC or wait and if I try and wait, the message just loops. Is there ANYTHING ANYONE can tell me about this. Please, please help!!!!
Try restarting the phone and see if that helps.
restarting doesn't work, re-running Unrevoked doesn't work. I don't know what else to do. Am I just app-less now?
It happens. Sometimes it takes a few hours to go back to normal, at least in my experience. Is it working for you yet?

I encountered a problem similar to this with my Evo. Basically the card stopped working and said I need to format it, but then it wouldn't let me actually format it. I contacted HTC and apparently they had a "bad batch" of the cards and they'll replace it for free, when they have some in stock. My advice would be to contact HTC or Sprint.
Not working yet. But one thing I forgot about is that after I rooted it I also installed "Choose install" from the Market and set the default to the storage card. I wonder if I should try and unroot my phone. I'm stuck there to because if I understand things right I would have to access my sd card to load a new zip file on it in order to unroot. My pc will no longer let me browse my device.

You will need access to an SD card to unroot. My advice would be to either buy another one or just borrow a friend's or something. Why do you want to unroot anyways?

I don't really want to, I just thought I would have to do that to try and go back to "stock" or if I'm using the word right, back to the way it was when I got it. I thought it might be my last resort to fixing it. I would still re-root again so I can try and figure out how to get rid of all of sprints bloatware.
Just an update - I bought me a new sd card from buy.com, a 16 gb for about $30. It fixed the problem for a little bit. I started installing my apps, got a good amount of them on there and it happened again! I'm starting to wonder if you just can't install very many apps for this phone or by some odd coincidence I got a 2nd bad storage card????. Weird. I might start a new thread for this but thanks for all you who participated. You rock!

i got mine all back today. I wiped the Dalvic cache from clockwork mod, and everything came back after a reboot about 5 minutes later.
For a few weeks i have been getting these total random shut downs of my DHD running the latest Virtuous Unity 2.35.
I saw that happening live 2 times on specific occasions/functionality calls:
1)After switching the DHD on and inserting the PIN to unlock the sim card...few secs and BAM....everything goes down. This happens from time to time.
2)Few secs after running the camera app...some loading goes on and BAM...here we go again...cell goes off
What the hell is happening, should i worry about the phone hardware or is it some wipe/format i didn't do properly prior to flashing the rom.
The problem is i noticed it also with other custom roms...but with those it never happened while i was using it, instead it happened getting the phone out of my small shoulder bag.
I am really afraid my cell has something wrong with the hardware...i was angry as hell and i tried to do some "heavy shakin" to see if the battery was not retained to its place as it should have but nothing happened...cell always on...
What should i do?
PS: i must say i tried almost 15 roms last 2 weeks but always used the related full wipe files/used a decent format/wipe procedure.
plz help me
---------------------------------------
Some tech stuff maybe you need to know
Device: Desire HD
Rom: (current) Virtuous Unity 2.35 (those days i flashed more than 10 roms, MIUI included)
Status: S-OFF HBOOT-0.85.2007 (CID-11111111)
Radio: 26.09.04.11_M2
RIL: 2.2.0131HM
Kernel: Stock that comes with VU
So that you know that's what i always did prior to flashing any ROM (currently using 4EXTRecovery 2.1.3 RC2) :
1)format system
2)format cache
3)format data
4)wipe data/factory reset
5)FLASH ROM
--------------------------------------
EDIT1: I noticed, just to keep you posted, that on the recovery menu the SD appear to be "not well partitioned", i don't know if it may be the cause.
Do you have app2ext working?
I'm guessing here. Try backing up your SDcard on a pc (preferably via cardreader) and giving it a thorough format with one partition only. You may need to delete the partitions first. I can't tell you how unless I know your operating system. If you continue having the shutdown issue afterwards you would be able to cross out SDcard problems at least.
Hi ROBINGAZI, thanks for your fast reply.
ehm, what is exactly app2ext?
I don't have a card reader right now, does it really change if I mount the SD via the phone? Anyways, i got a machine running WIN 7 x64.
hope this step will clear out the problem
Plug your phone to the computer as disk drive.
copy everything you have on the sdcard to a directory in your computer.
then click start>control panel>administrative tools> computer management.
a window will appear and you should see "storage"
in storage you will find "disk management".
you should be able to see your phone's SDcard there. right click and then delete the partition into unallocated space. Then right click and create a partition (fat32). format the partition.
if needed remount the sdcard to your computer (not the phone)
copy only one zip file (the rom you want to flash) to the SDcard (preferably something reliable like stock or something very close to stock).
unplug the phone and reboot into recovery. Do a full wipe...format everything apart from the sdcard if you think it is proper.
flash the rom and see what happens.
this way you can at least rule out the SDcard for causing your problems.
PS: Dont restore via nandroid...you could be putting the problem back into your phone.
BTW: Does your phone shut down properly or the screen goes blank like it would if you unplug a computer. Anyway make sure you dont just have a loose battery cover or battery before you try this out.
Thanks again.
Yeah my phone screen just goes blank like it would if you remove the battery from it while on.
I restored the SD card and it works properly. installed Revolution HD 5.2.6
As i stated earlier i also tried to shake the phone to see if the battery had some kind of faulty retention system but the phone stays on.
So i really can't understand what is the problem.
PS: I was curious, is there an application that tells you the entire life of a battery? meaning since when it started to operate?
NEW UPDATE ABOUT THE MATTER:
It's DEFINITELY the battery...i don't know why, i don't know with what criteria but it's the battery.
Yesterday i switched it with my brother's phone, obviously another DHD. Since then i have had absolutely no problem of any sort. He, instead, is experiencing random shut downs...
i think that the "problem is sloved" so to speak
the question about the battery app remains...or maybe there is a way to see the battery entire life cycle with a system file.
Hello,
I installed on my Desire with STOCK HBOOT Sandvold ICS in the Version 0.17.1.1. I choosed stock a2sd in the installation and active in terminal a2sd install. Then I restored my apps by Mybackup Root. I have now the problem if I want to install a app from the market I get the error message "No Disk space available" (or something like that, I'm using German language).
I have a 512mb ext4 partition and activate a2sd in Terminal. I searched the topic for problems like that and found that I have to install mount2sd. I did this, but it didn't help either.
What should I do now? I haven't enough posts to post in the sandvold ics topic.

I had exactly the same problem. At first I chose during flashing the option "Regular a2sdext" as it seems good to me. However, nothing has changed, it was not working for me at all. Then I reflashed again with "Stock a2sd" and after booting I went to terminal and activated it. I tried it with several combinations (in some of them I got the message "Insufficcient storage available" and I only had like 5 apps installed...). At the end I finally made it work with the combination that is recommended by Sandvold - Y N Y. After that I have been installing several apps and my internal memory does not go down almost at all :good:... I will see later, but for now, this is the best set up for me....
I had this problem
I had this problem with one application. When installing from market, there'd be a pop up message saying that there was no more storage space even though there was plenty.
A few hours later, everything went back to normal and I managed to install all the apps I wanted.
(Side question: have you guys updated to Sandvold ICS 0.18 Beta?! I have, but I lost root access, so now I'm trying to regain it. Could someone alert Sandvold? I'm a new member and I can't post to 'Android development forums")

I have been testing 0.18 for a few hours now. Your phone issues should be resolved except you will encounter a new issue. You will lose superuser privilliges, to restore this, you have to install a zip of superuser through recovery.

I had 0.17.1.1 and all was well, it was tiny bit laggy, but overall it was cool.
i updated to 0.18, and I lost root access: the apps requesting SuperUser premissions were denied. (If you don't know what root access is, please google it)
As iyf said, you can flash the zip provided in Sandvold's official thread to restore root access. Check page 1601 or so for the flashable zip that will restore root access. I did so, and regained root access.
Then I got back all my apps as Sandvold 0.18 is my daily driver. But as I was using it, I noticed that whenever you change something in the system settings, it does not apply immediately. For example, I want my phone to lock immediately when it goes to sleep, well it simply doesn't. The power menu lost a few of the shortcuts it had in 0.17.1.1 (sound profiles...) and even if you restored them in the system settings, it won't change.
All in all, 0.18 is great step in terms of stability and reactiveness. No more scroll lag, apps open seamlessly, and no more 3G signal problems. The camera still isn't working though. Nevertheless, bizarrely the system lost its coherence: the system settings are not immediately applied and used, and the screen just won't lock. Those are the problems I encountered this afternoon.
I hope Sandvold takes a look at this thread as I cannot post on the official ROM thread coz I just registered on XDA.
(My Home button died today, even if I press it really hard, it won't respond, but I think it's a hardware issue)
EDIT: About the no more space issue, I had this today even though there was plenty of space left. I rebooted the phone and the warning disappeared.

I rebooted the phone and the warning disappeared.

of course I know what root is, otherwise I would not be here, right? ... I just did not understand what happened to you when you updated to 0.18.... Now I understand.... and regarding to your issues - in 0.17.1 I had exactly the same problem - my screen did not lock even I set it up correctly and I also had the problem with Home button, it simply did not work + I could not receive any phone calls... all of that was really annoying and I tried to find some help on sandvold's blog, without any success, I also tried their IRC, nobody helped me either. I did not want to do a full wipe again, but at the end I did (and now I have to set up everything as well ) but after full wipe, everything is working correclty... I can receive phone calls, my screen locks and home button is also working ... so I recommend you to do a full wipe, I am sure it will resolve your issues as well...

I also lost the root access with Beta 0.18(with full wipe),
(Beta 0.17 "root access" is OK!)
Superuser is out of order with this issue so that I can't activate A2SD
btw,
I have once tried the "AD2SDX", but didn't work normally:
I merged 1GB ext4 for it. And every time when I install about 10~15 Apps
A message on the top of the screen would tell me that I almost reached the limit.

By full wipe you mean:
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. wipe battery stats
right?
I always do that when I flash a new ROM... Anyway, will try again later and hope that it works.

yes, it is what I meant... I did full wipe before flashing and then another after it ... I do not wipe battery stats during that process, but it does not matter I hope it will work for you...

Whenever I got this message, I'd reboot or hot reboot and it would disappear. I can't remember if I had the same script.

you mean working with AD2SDX ?
Can I ask you how do you merge and format ext4 ?
Actually, I'm using MiniTool Partition Wizard, is it okay ?
cause I did reboot after I saw the message, but didn't work.
But I surely know that I can see "1GB" in "Apps" in "settings"
quite confusing

It's not okay, minitool doesn't do that correctly. Use 4ext recovery to partition your sd card.

Quite confusing indeed. I must say I'm no expert developer or programmer, heck I'm an engineering student. i just experiment on my Desire. But my experience in bricking/unbricking/flashing/etc tells me the following:
Minitool wizard apparently is not okay. I used it at first too but my Desire just could not read or detect the EXT3 partition I created. I tried EXT4. I tried different roms and scripts, none worked for me. (To be honest, I only tried 3 roms and a few scripts).
What I used is plain simple: Clockworkmod Recovery partitioning tools. It works for me!
First restore your SD card to full FAT32 configuration (I might suggest changing the basic storage unit from a few bytes to a few kilobytes as it might increase SD card responsiveness).
BACK IT UP, you will lose everything on it when you partition it in CWM.
Boot into recovery and select partition SD card (It is advised that the size of your partition does not exceed 1.5 GB as a few ROM developers have pointed out - not Sandvold though- I use 512 MB, which is more than enough for me). Set SWAP to 0 Bytes. (i have no idea what swap is, should google it, but most threads advise a swap of 0 B).
That's it, you have your partition.
I use CWM and Sandvold 0.18. If you use this setup, everything should be okay, at least it's ok on my phone.
I use stock a2sd when flashing Sandvold ICS ROMs.
I'm on stock HBOOT, S-OFF, and using the regular Kernel that comes with Sandvold 0.18. (I tried tiamat, but the battery dies after half a day of use!)

just to add - I have Amon RA Recovery and I partitioned my SD card by that, it was also working without any problems everytime I did it...
@CzarD - I am glad to hear that the wipe helped you...
You should try out the Amarullz or INT2SD from the Aroma installer. I have INT2SD and I have 1,3G of free space (2G EXT partition)

As I know, swap in linux is somewhat like virtual memory in Windows.
Will be launched when the system is in low memory.
That's exactly everything I know
I'm now Using Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4, stock HBOOT, S-OFF
And just follow your way to full wipe then install the system again(stock a2sd)
I still can't get the root access. thus, I can't activate a2sd in terminal
PS: with Beta 0.18
But Beta 0.17.1 currently work!
