hey everyone
this is my first time i will root and install new rom on my htc desire, the thing is that i read the tutorials and everything, and i chosed to install cyanogen mod 7 rom, however cyanogen said this
The 7.0.3 update is *ONLY* for people using 7.0.2* stable builds. You'll hose your system if you install it on a nightly from the last week (2.3.4/GRJ22).
Click to collapse
does that mean that i cant install it unless i had 7.0.2 preinstalled on my phone ? which means that for now i should install 7.0.2 ??
please help, and if it is true what is the way to update it after installing the 7.0.2 rom ??
plus it says
Update your radio! New radio from HTC 2.2+ roms is required

how do i choose the radio ? and how do i know that i dont need to download it if my radio is what is stated... ???
however the tutorial i am using says this in intro
***This method only works for users with hboot 0.93 and lower. Sorry 1.06 users, but until unrevoked updates, your stuck on stock htc***

mine is 0.93.0001
does that mean that i cant continue doing the steps of rooting and flashing provided ??
third is that
thanks in advance
Your hboot is OK, you can go ahead with rooting and S-OFFing your device (which i recommend since you want to run CM7, go with CM7hboot to maximize ROM efficency and properly use phone's memory)
Download 7.0.3 and flash it. what cyangoen said means, that you can go from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3 without wipe (flashing one on top of the other so you dont have to set up your apps and settings again) and also he mentions that if someone was using that weeks nightly build, he/she MUST do a full wipe before flashing 7.0.3 or it wont work
about RADIO
if you were on Official Froyo, you do have correct RADIO
if you werent or if you just want to be up to date, you can do it yourself - download the radio from desire forums here, search for them in the 'Desire index - everything for the desire is here' thread.
download .zip of the radio and flash it from recovery, or if you decide to S-OFF you can also do it by downloading .img of the radio and flasing it using fastboot (you must have [email protected])
go with CM7hboot

HBOOT determines the partition layout in your phone memory.
stock bravo (desire) hboot is 250MB system, 147MB data and 40MB cache
now alpharev made custom hboots, one of them specifically for CM7 (since it didnt need 250MB on system)
and CM7hboot is : system 145M cache 5M data 287M
so u get lots of space for apps, nothing wasted (because u waste 150MB if running CM7 on stock hboot)

thanks alot
ive finished insalling my new rom
a great thanks for ur help

So I'm currently running Senseless revolution 2.0 ROM on my incredible. I'm looking to try out the CM7 nightlies and I looked in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916881 and it says "Third, make sure you have updated HBOOT (.92), radio images (2.15 series). The newer seem to be working much better." Are both of those necessary to use CM7? How would I go about doing this with my current rom installed? Would I simply put everything on the root of my SD card, boot into CWM, backup my current ROM, install HBOOT, the radio and then the ROM all at once? What would be the correct way of doing this exactly.... Thanks!

cm7 has worked for some without upgrading hboot or radio......but.......if you have any issues with things not working, the first thing that will be suggested is updating hboot and radio. you can flash the rom and see if works for you or not, then decide if you need to update hboot / radio. the links to get the latest of both hboot and radio are in the cm7 thread in the dev section. you need to to one at a time.....I would do hboot first......reboot and then update the radio, if needed.

ok so hboot and the raido update will install from boot loader and not recovery. if you are running revolution 2.0 Im pretty sure you have the updated radio. but to check go to settings -> about phone -> and it should tell you under " Baseband version"
for hboot. you will need to download it from here http://dougpiston.com/?p=44 then check the M5D sum because if this is corrupt then your phone will be toast.
follow this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9968133&postcount=6

Same way you would hBOOT. Download the radio zip. Place it on the root of your SD card. Check the m5d sum. Astro file manager can do this for you. Then turn off the phone turn it on while holding volume down. And it should pick it up and ask you to update. But please make sure you check m5d. If the file is corrupt in any way and you try and flash it will brick the phone. And nandroid will not help.

Hi all,
I've got htc desire (bravo, GSM), but it comes with Cyanogenmod 7, alpharecovery and custom HBOOT (alpha or some like this). I would like to unroot my phone and have stock Htc Desire with stock ROM. I have been searching for any solutions on XDA forums for ages. I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6710092&postcount=4.
But I can't understand what i should do to get stock Desire.
Can somebody please help me? Thanks.
Sorry for my english.
Hello. First of all why do you want to unroot? The big part of peoples try to ROOT but are to afraid... You can flash a custom ROM that has only the stock ROM plus a few additions that will make your life easier. (ex.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916417).
Anyway if you want to UNROOT be sure to read the ALL of the bellow threads FROM THE BEGINNING TILL END and understand everything it is written there and after this proceed:

Read the tuts posted above, but also remember to change the HBOOT back to stock, running a RRU will not work on the CM7 HBOOT. Alpharev has the stock HBOOT on there web site, the tuts above will tell you.how to change it

Ok, i don't need to completly remove root. But I preferably want a stock ROM. And I prefer to update my recovery from this stupid cwm-alpharev(v2.5.1.8), in official last CM7 stable mod, there is application "ROM Manager" and there's an option Flash ClockworkMod Recovery (bla bla u must have CWM to use this app etc). Can I do it? Can I reflash old recovery (alpha rev.)? Newest is 3.X.X.X
PS:
HBOOT 0.93
I want stock ROM because i hate this ext partitioning and all about installing parts of ROM into external SD card. And than I had 1GB ext which I cannot use for apps, and 40mb of internal storage. I HATE IT.

Well on stock Rom, you get around 75 Mb for installing apps, which would be over with around 20 apps installed. If you're cool with that, install Teppic's stock rooted rom. You dont need to unroot just for using stock rom.
Hi guys
I have a desire bravo that i updated to the new gingerbread ruu when it came out.
Sorry but i have a few questions. Im on holiday at the moment and im using my desire wifi hotspot to use the internet at the moment so i really dont want to mess it up.
1) I used the clockwork mod to S-off and install a custom recovery this morning.
I know that the S-Off worked and i manged to install the custom recovery as the superuser app has shown up in my menu and the hboot menu shows S-Off.
First thing i did was to do a back up that i have saved to my computer..
I then moved on to Root the rom and it showed as being complete
When i installed root check from the market i get some problems. The first is : Application superuser has stopped unexpectedly. I have to force close the app to continue. Root check then tells me that "Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted"
Anyone have any ideas about what i did wrong ???
2) if i cant root the rom should i just install a new custom rom. Does anyone know what is the best GB rom with a new sense (not bothered about what one) i should install. Not worried about App to sd yet as i thought if i start small with a stable rom then i can always change to a rom with app to sd built in at a later time once i get used to changing roms
Thanks for your help as i said i really dont want to brick the phone as i will lost internet access and will be stuck till i get home.
Thanks Guys
BTW big thanks to the clockwork guys for all there hard work
When your phone is s-off, you don't have to root it (or rather the os). So if the s-off process finishes (you cannot s-off with a recovery, so I assume you did it with revolutionary), just flash a rom with root access and you're done.
There is no "best rom". It depends on personal preferences. Just try.
yes i used the revolutionary way to s-off and install the recovery files and i have to say it works very very well very easy to understand
Thanks for the info about rooting the rom. I think i understand now
so can i install any rom now as i updated to the offical gingerbread ruu when it came out ?
If so can you recommend a good gingerbread rom with a newish sense on ?

After you run the revolutionary process successful, flash a custom recovery with fastboot (how to use fastboot -> see my sig). I recommend 4ext or rmd. Now boot into recovery, make a full wipe and flash any rom you want (save important first). Just follow the given instructions in the corresponding thread.
For the sense rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
thanks guys. I think im going to give the AceSMod007-Lite (Sense2.1+3.0 GB ) a go as a lot of people recommend it. 1 quick question.
Can i install this rom even though i installed the offical RUU Gingerbread update and s-off'ed using revolutionary??
Thanks Guys
sorry one more question.
I did a backup of my rom via recovery. If i dont like the new Rom can i just restore to my standard rom via retore in recovery mode?
Yes, you can. Just wipe everything and restore. If you cannot to this, a backup would be senseless, don't you think?
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Thank you soooooooo much. I just flashed the rom and eveything is working perfect
my phone now shows that i have :
885 MB on Ext Partition
34.27 MB on /data
3.97 MB on /System
Does that sound right?
Looks fine.

WiFi issues
Hi there,
i'm new to xda, but not new in getting root, flashing ROMs, Radios, Recovery etc...
My problem ist the WiFi connection, connection is very bad, i cannot go far away from the WiFi Router/Access Point. The singnal is getting lost very very fast. I have a second Desire here with pre-rooted stock GB ROM, there it is much better!
Here some information about my device:
Runnymede AIO 6.0.4.1 (Had same issue in all versions before)
Droidzone Kernel from Aroma Installer
Newest Radio!
Stock HBoot with APP2SD
Did someone have the same problems and a solution for me? Maybe another Kernel? Or shoud i try another Sense 3.5 ROM (insertcoin, RSK, ...?) I don't linke AOSP and ICS is too buggy for me.

I'm fairly new to this and only had this ROM installed for a few days (so experts, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong), but this ROM has a form of A2SD built into it that operates automatically. Provided that your ext4 partition is 1GB+, you should have plenty of room for your apps without changing hboots. Just an idea if you don't want to go to the trouble of researching this extra step.

Ok, I've got a stock Desire (with Three UK) unrooted and I was contemplating on flashing maybe an ICS/JB ROM.
But, I wanted some guidance on what would be the best way to start rooting, etc and any prtions that I need to be wary off.
I'm aware that the Desire does not have a lot of internal memory & did read a few threads on ways the internal storage can be optimised, but am still a little unclear.
I've already read about the unrevoked root process & have downloaded the necessary files. Also, have read on updating the modified USB driver, before rooting through Windows.
Some Guidance would be great ..
If your hboot is 0. 93 or 1. 02 Go to revolutionary.io for one stop solution for rooting/soff.
So, what would be the sequence I need to follow? Would the below sequence be the way to go about?
1. S-Off & Root: I have downloaded the unRevoked Root tool & I believe that it'll also offer S-OFF (Read the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044)
2. Before running the unRevoked Root Process, I need to update the Windows HBOOT drivers
3. I believe that the Desire has an internal memory (quite a small one) and my Desire also has an external SD card. I've read a few posts about re-partitioning the internal memory so that there's just enough space for a new ICS/JB Custom ROM, and more space for internal storage. But, I need more simpler info. here.
4. Do I have to update the radio as my Desire still have the 2/3 year old one??
5. Finally, I know how to flash a custom ROM, as I've done it several times on my other phone, Desire HD. I gained root & s-off on the DHD using the AAHK hit.
Unrevoked doesn't s-off. What's your hboot version?
To partition your sd-card properly, use 4ext recovery.

I don't have the phone right now with me as my sister is using it. I can check the HBOOT once I get the phone in a couple of hours.
I've just created a CD disk of GParted (Using ISO) and was planning to use that to create the partitions.
Where can I check for the latest radio for the phone..?
EDIT: Planning to follow this guide, step by step ..

I will get the HBOOT version once I get the Phone in a couple of hours.
Other Info I managed to get from my sister over the phone:
Android: 2.2.2
Baseband: 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
Kernel: 2.6.32.15
Build Number: 2.29.771.3CL345089
Software Number: 2.29.771.3
So, I see that there's a newer radio (5.17.05.23) .. Should I go ahead and Flash it? Will it Offer any improvements? Also, I'm in the UK with Three Mobile, does that matter?? i.e is the radio location specific??
na, the radio is the same for all. most devs roms these days say that u must have latest radio so ya mite aswell flash it. the best way to flash it is using fastboot commands, u can look at the guide in my sig and learn about that or if u have the older version of Clockworkmod Recovery (2.5.0.7) installed u cant just flash it like a normal zip file.

Ok, Im' stuck right now.
I tried to root using UnRevoked 3.32 and it failed gaining root, with a message that maybe a newer firmware.
I then tried revolutionary.io one and it successfully managed to S-OFF & installed CWM recovery 4.x.x . Then I move the Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip to the SD card to flash from recovery, to gain root.
But, when I get into CWM recovery, I see all the options but when I select any option all I see is the splash screen with 'revolutionary'. When I hit the power button I am returned to the menu. Only a battery pull gets me out
Need help now as I have S-OFF and No Root. By the way, I also tried another guide to 'root branded devices' and have converted my SD card to a Gold Card successfully. But, the guide doesn't explain how I can gain root after that ..

Are you pressing the trackball to select options within recovery? (Eventually I would recommend switching to 4ext touch recovery, much better and more intuitive)
You only need to flash the zip to root your current Rom, and install root apps like titanium to backup apps and data.
If you have nothing to backup you can already full wipe and install a custom Rom of your choice, because they will come pre-rooted
In terms of getting some much needed memory back what worked for me on my old Desire was to partition my SDcard and install S2e. This was on the CM7 rom but you get the idea...
If you say JB, there will be no recommendation.
If you say otherwise, a lots of options will be there.
You are using froyo. Why don't you go for GB? There are a lots of good ROMs out there.
