[Q] Desire s or Galaxy ace - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
This is my first android purchase so could someone please advise which would be the best model to buy Desire s or Galaxy ace, I'm running both side by side at the moment and first impressions seem that the 'S' is the way to go, Are either model difficult to debrand/sim unlock? as this is important to me, Does the Desire unlock utility posted in the general forum work with the 'S' if so I think that would make my decision much easier.
Thanks in advance...

Hi,
Without much hesitation, I would say the HTC Desire S because it is more powerful in characteristic ...
ace the galaxy is a range below the desired htc S..
good buy

Desire S is high-end (but its already outdated, obviously)
Galaxy Ace is low-end
so ummm - Desire S obviously >

Desire s it is then......thanks to both of you for your help...

Galaxy ace is no match for Desire S.
I suggest:
1. Samsung Galaxy S II
2. Motorola Atrix
3. Droid Incredible 2
4. Incredible S

wow.. diffrent class
galaxy ace is my late handheld
probably you must choose desire s... diffent processor, gpu, screen...
much dev on desire s

[Q] Whats the best 4" Android Phone - Replacing HTC Desire

Hi all gonna replace my HTC Desire its been great and I am keen to stay with this size device. What would people recommended? The LG seems good but its froyo and I don't really want to go back from gingerbread. Currently running vanilla gingerbread so be happy if I can just run that. Also I tend to flash different roms now and again so a good scene on here would be great.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
Thanks
Hi mate,
i've got the LG Optimus 2X (P990)
Amazing phone - so fast - and Gingerbread will be released for it in a month or so.
Another great thing about it is that it actually handles 32GB microsd cards

Thanks,
What is the battery life like? don't suppose you had a desire beforehand ?
I would take the Nexus S, pure Google-Phone - 4", similar to Samsung Galaxy S.
I own the Desire HD, 4.3" screen but amazing once you put a custom rom on it.
I would definitely look at something with the dual-core Tegra chipset.
Phones with 3.7 - 4 - 4.3 inch screens that are available now:
HTC Desire S (the successor to the original Desire). (3.7 inch screen, like orig Desire).
HTC Desire HD (successor to the HD2 (runs WM6.5), but runs Android).
Samsung Galaxy S (what I have right now).
Samsung Galaxy S2 (only available in Europe right now).
HTC Incredible S/HTC Droid Incredible 2 (in USA).
Motorola Atrix. (has Motoblur, and locked bootloader, meaning no custom ROMs yet).
Samsung/Google Nexus S (no MicroSD card slot).
LG Optimus 2x/LG G2x (in USA).
Sony Xperia Arc. (one of the thinnest smartphones avilable).
Sony Xperia Play (PlayStation certified).
Or the new HTC Sensation, which is what I'd like, but it's unreleased right now.
Don't forget the
HTC Glacier (aka T-Mobile myTouch 4g) (3.8" screen) (in USA)
I've got it and it does everything I've ever needed to do with it even though I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet.

[Q] Desire vs Desire Z vs Desire HD vs Desire S

Which one of the four Desires is best?
HTC Desire or HTC Desire S or HTC Desire HD or HTC Desire Z?
Comparison table drawn here: http://www.geekword.net/htc-desire-s-vs-htc-desire-hd-vs-htc-desire-z-vs-htc-desire/
Personal preferences except for the normal desire, that one is old.
If you want big screen HD.
If you want physical keyboard Z.
No keyboard and 4" to big S.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
both desire Z and desire S loose against desire HD. desire S is simply 'refreshed' desire for a lot of money, it is better to go for HD instead. desire Z compared to desire HD also looses. original desire... well if i was to buy a phone now i would not choose it because of it lacking true multitouch.
long story short - for me, the Desire HD is the winner here (and about its size... it is not that much bigger compared to other devices listed here, and it sports best specification at a reasonable price)
Desire S for me...i've had the Bravo since it was released and i still love it (i also had the Desire Z for a few weeks)
4.3" screens are too big for girl's hands, so if i were to upgrade it would be to the Desire S for the ff camera and more RAM
I really want a physical keyboard. So I guess than Desire Z is for me. My gf has HTC Evo Shift 4g (HTC Knight). Its the same screen size, but has a slide out keyboard. Perfect!
Unfortunately, although my carries has great service and price, it sucks at bringing new phones to customers. After all we did not get the Desire until late August 2010.

i found the Desire Z way too heavy
I just wish that the original Desire had more internal memory (and maybe a tad more ram)
the S's non-physical keys is a shame - but the S / Original for me.
front facing camera i can live without as I never used it on the Blackstone
Desire s i think

I would vote for Desire S. It's screen is smaller than HD's, but it has the same pixel count, so the images will look better. It also has front camera, which will be useful in near future. The hardware in both phones is the same, but since S is newer, it may be longer supported by HTC.
If there is a senseles phone, it is Incredible S, which is Desire HD with front camera and doesn't worth its money.
I actually bought the original Desire a month ago and I can honestly say its the best thing I have ever had. Even though its a year old now, its still awesome. I even flashed it with the latest RCMIX HD rom so it now has all the features of the desire hd, plus its literally twice as fast. I also repartitioned the sd card, so the internal storage is like 800MBs.
To be honest, I checked the other phones before I bought this one, and I found the HD too big and expensive, and didn't like the keyboard of the desire Z. As for the S model, it doesn't seem to be anything special with the fact that its expensive too.
So if you're looking for the right sized phone and don't want to spend big bux yet still have a beast in your hands, the original desire is the way to go. Remember, as long as you can flash it, you'll never miss all the fun of the new phones.

i have original desire.. what i miss the most is proper multitouch. .apart from that it is great.. perfect weight and size! htc desire hd is too big imo.. if you want keyboard get the desire z but heard it's a bit heavy... i would recommand desire s
Just buy the mobile what you think is the best for you.

I still have old desire. I`m thinking that i would be missing trackball in other desires
Yup I like the optical trackball too. Bear in mind that desire's multitouch is not good at all.
Desire is my choice, have one for alomost half a year now and I am super happy with it. Didn't test desire s and z, but I test HD one, and I don't like him at all, a little bit new software then desire but very clumsy made, and it's too big to put him in normal pockets, only if you are rapper and have that big pockets.
In my opinion the original Desire is the best if you consider the prices. If you already have the original Desire or an older phone and you want to make an investition, i think that the best choice is by far the Desire S.
The Desire Z is too big and heavy and has no big improvements and the HD is too big for what it is capable of.
My next step will be the Desire S for sure, in a few weeks :-D

The original desire wins for me . I'm due an upgrade , so i decided to be brave and try rooting it and flashing a new rom , now i don't need a new phone . It's opened a whole new fun world .
desire hd if you like the size

not holding out for the Sensation?
If my Desire/Bravo had proper multitouch support and an hdmi out I'd keep it for another 2-3 years..
Pleased as punch with the orignal desire, came to it from the blackstone.
Yes a faster processor would be nice, yes being able to play PSP quality games would be nice but ulitmatley its a phone and web browser which desire 1 does well.
I don't think I'll be getting the itch to change phones until battery life under load is measured in days not hours and OTA data network infrastructure improves and by that I mean High speed (3.5 and 4G) coverage and cost.
Google maps is a toy, it would be great to use when abroad in foreign cities but at £3-8 per MB its unusable.
One example I have is when I got lost in geneva, was in a rush and nobody was around to ask for directions so I fired up data roaming to quickly find out where I was - I had satelight view with a couple of layers as well still set from wehn I use it at home - £5! for about 1minutes usage!!!!

Is it a good idea to buy HTC Incredible S instead of HTC Desire?

Only thing it is holding me back because it isn't popular phone so I might don't have much of support or any help for rooting, hardware issue or anything like that. I could just save $150 and go for HTC Desire, but I like 8mpx, front camera and the screen on HTC Incredible S. I like HTC Desire because it is quite popular and it has a lot of support, but Incredible S sounds and look much cooler.
Also excuse me for posting in wrong section, I couldn't find a correct section for general discussion of android phone (hardware).
EDIT: I posted this thread in both section Desire and Incredible S for unbiased opinion.
Two words. Incredible s. If you can wait get a sensation
Sent From My HTC sensation (desire with rcmix s )
Incredible S defenietly has better specifications, but it indeed does not have the same customrom / supportuserbase on xda yet.
Like stated above, the Sensation will be out in 1-2months, and thats a great phone. If you cannot wait and want a new phone now, perhaps the Desire HD is a valid option also (Better than regular Desire, similar specs to Incredible, but awesome support/userbase here on XDA).
Blah id get the lg optimus 2x for that amount of cash (dual corez)
But if i had to choose incredible s (desire is booring)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I got an Arc to wait for the Sensation with root, I am considering to sell it and get a Desire or DHD just because the Arc while it has root it doesn't have any custom rom!
I sold my 1 year used N1 for 330$ 2 weeks ago so I think selling a Desire or DHD in 2 months will be pretty the same, whereas the SE price droping fast and its lack of popularity will mean that I will sell it for even less than a Desire.
So if you can't live without custom roms more than 2 weeks...buy a good old Desire or DHD!
The Sensation will be out between the 8th and 15th June, add to that another month to find a root and the price to decrease
Well, guys, thanks for replying, but why would you ever mention Sensation? I have a budget and I couldn't shell out that much of money and what I heard, dual-core is a battery drainer plus I don't want 4.3" screen as it's too big for me. Even 4" is, that's why I was going for Desire which is 3.7" or something.
Can you put custom ROM on Incredible S?
^If you're that worried about budget and everything, you might want to look into the Nexus S, it runs better than any of these phones (except dual-core), has decent dev support, is factory-unlocked, and it's more pocket-able than 4.3" phones.
If you're absolutely tied between the Desire and the Incredible S, then go for the Incredible S because of significantly better specs, a newer version of Sense and WAY more onboard memory.
To be honest, the main reasons people here work on custom roms, is because we don't have Sense 2.0 on the Desire without an Ace rom (DHD), because of memory limitations (147MB on stock partition table, vs 1.1GB in Incredible S), to make it run faster, or to run MIUI or AOSP.
Sense is great, and with the Incredible S, your phone will run better than a Desire running sense ever would, so go with that!

I couldn't go for Google Nexus S because it doesn't have support in Moscow, Russia e.g if I have hardware failure or such, I couldn't take it to the support.
Sounds like I wouldn't need to change ROM on Incredible S but I would like to be able to root it to have full power on it. Is Android applications depended of which phone model do you have (I'm already aware it's depended of android version)?
Also, is dev support is that important? If it is, then I guess I should fall back down to HTC Desire.
Also, I'm pretty tired of this 5 minutes limit for editing/posting, when will it get removed?
If you are in desperate need of a new phone and you can afford something more expensive than Desire, I think you should get either Incredible S or Nexus S.
If you can wait and still afford the price when it comes to the market, I think Sensation would be the better option.
The good old Desire is still a good option to get. Despite of all its weaknesses due to being an old model with old specs, Desire is very cheap at this moment, especially the second handed one.
I had a Desire about a year ago, then moved to the Samsung Galaxy S.
But just today I bought a Desire for £200 brand new, I couldn't resist as it's just such a good phone!
Running AdamG's Oxygen ROM on it now, it's so awesome!
Oh well I just discovered the weather from Sense 3.0 has been ported to DHD in a 100% workingl rom, the Desire will follow shortly
I guess it boils down to price for you by the sounds of it. Also consider if you are big in to gaming and video as Incredible GPU is much better than Desire from what I can remember. Is the Incredible locked though, as in bootloader/ROM's? Also something to bear in mind.

[Q] Can Desire HD use MHL??

Hello, Just heard about the MHL adapter for Galaxy s2 & HTC sensation, Will it work with Desire HD!??
;-)
Yeah anyone?
Its a software thing so if the developers decide to put it in their ROM's then its possible.

[Q] Help me decide my new phone!!

I'm planning to buy HTC Wildfire / Samsung Galaxy Ace / HTC Wildfire S.
I don't know what to do
HTC Wildfire:
Pros:
Sense, Many ROMS, little more RAM.
Cons:
Less pixels, smaller screen, Lesser Batter Life.
Samsung Galaxy Ace:
Pros:
More pixels, larger phone, better battery life
Cons:
Less RAM (278 or something), ****ty TouchWiz, Not many ROMs available till now.
Please help me decide!!
Check this for comparison

Get the Ace...
(or the wildfire S)
Yes, I'm reconsidering HTC Wildfire S!
The original's biggest flaw is the lack of GPU, which makes 3d games imposible/way to laggy
Galaxy Ace costs 15K. If you have that budget, I would strongly recommend you extend it by 5K (Wait a little if you cant extend it immediately), and get the Nexus S. Stay clear of the original Wildfire, seriously. Also, going by current trends, it seems there is not much interest in the Wildfire S, and even AlphaRev X failed for it, so there is no idea really when it will get root and custom ROMs.
I am sure you will find the Nexus S far more enjoyable then you can ever find the SG Ace or Wildfire S, more so if you enjoy modding and flashing Custom ROMs.
Another alternative is the ZTE Blade. (Dell XCD35). It beats both, has a lot of Custom ROMs and interest, and costs just 10K. Also, its HDPI, which is a big advantage.
I had considered Nexus S before but my dad isn't going to allow me to increase the budget
Even if you postpone your timeframe to buy? That's unfortunate. Did you consider the Dell?
EDIT: Consider the Motorola Defy as well. I forgot about it, but, I had an opportunity to play with it, and, it was awesome. Besides, it seems the Defy also has an active community. (And also includes the eyecandy MIUI ROM. )
If you are looking for HTC sense then no option from me. I would suggest to use a 3rd party launcher like lpp in any device.
Then options from me are blade, defy, nexus s. I know they are already suggested.
Go for blade if your budget is low and if you don't give importance to camera.
Last time I checked angry birds on my friends defy stock Rom without overclock. It's far better than on wildfire with overclock. Wildfire lacks gpu which makes gaming horrible. Consider gpu also.
And if you can wait for the nexus s budget, better wait. And in the meanwhile you may get even better options.
Personally, I'm ready to swap my wildfire for blade ( at the moment ) if any of my friends are interested in camera or flash. Definitely ignore wildfire.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
i wouldnt advise a wildfire due to the age. you may be able to get a old desire cheap though.
