Beware of sandisk microsdhc products - General Accessories

I recently bought a sandisk microsdhc 8 gb class 4 card from a reputable seller in my country, and this is a genuine sandisk product, NOT a counterfeit or fake
product
These are the pictures of the product
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The serial number is SDSDQM-008G-B35N
The label on the card has a number "4" in a circle, so people would think this is a class 4 card, BUT this is not a class 4 product !
This is ACTUALLY a class 2 products
Proofs:
I tested it using a card reader
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Furthermore, on googling the serials "SDSDQM-008G-B35N", showed the original product's label, which is class 2 !
http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Sdsdqm008gb35n-Microsd-Capacity-Reliable/dp/B005177GZE
Even my "no name" cheap chinese brand microsdhc of unspecified class performs faster in writing operation than this sandisk microsdhc !
The same people that got tricked into buying fake class 4 sandisk products
http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Mobile...-SDHC-8gb-Class-2-printed-class-4/td-p/224410
I used sandisk products for years, for almost all of my gadgets, BUT now I am very dissappointed, I never thought a reputable company such as Sandisk would do this kind of scam
But seeing is believing
I don't even bother to email sandisk support nor complain to sandisk in my country, since the product isn't a defect product, nor it is a counterfeit product, BUT it is a genuine product with an intended false specifications in order to cheat consumers
I'll make sure that any sandisk products which I used are the last, never would I bought anything from sandisk again
I sincerely hope this kind of scam would increase sandisk sales
Oh BTW, this is the specification of different classes of speed in SD card
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
I regret not buying transcend microsdhc but buying sandisk instead
Hope this will be a valuable lesson for me and the others who tricked too, also an info for readers
Thanks

That's really interesting. Wouldn't have expected that from a company like Sandisk...
Sent from my Inc using Nil's Business Gingersense. Now that's Incredible.

I have a 16GB Class4 Sandisk MicroSD as well, it performs like a Class2 card, the maximum writing speed I could get is about 3.2mb/s, and it went to 2.0mb/s after a while. Tested using card reader, SD adapter and also directly through phone USB.
I'm going to get a 32GB MicroSD by this month, don't know whether should I trust Sandisk or not or get a Class10 DNA instead.

so thats why my 16gb felt like turtle? zzz

i just tested my 16gb Class4 Sandisc microSDHC with sd tools on my HD2.
dunno, but my class4 beheaves like a class4 or even class6.
i got 5.9MB/s writng speed and 23MB/s reading speed
this without modding the cache file

Maybe they just cocked up with the labeling?

I am going to have to check on mine now.

Just checked my 16gb that I got a few backs back. Same thing reputable dealer retail packing not tampered with and just tested getting 2.35 mb/s write speed and it can't in the wrong package as the card has a 4 stamped on it. Not impressed at all. I have always trusted sandisk but I think I may have to drop them a message and see what they say.

look inside this link
http://www.sandisk.com/products/mobile-memory-products
can u see any Class 4 card? yes, the one labeled "Ultra", but there is no 32bg ultra mobile card, so my guess is that the card you bought is a fake Class 2 one.
Who is that reputable seller? I hope u dont mean Amazon.
Anyways if u pay something like $50, u r fine.
@D4rkSoRRoW: since your card is probably fake too, i would appreciate that u tell us your amazon or ebay seller. Thanks

luckily I don't use sandisk..

Hi what program do you use to test your cards speed? thanks

Interesting thread, I've always been a little iffy on Sandisk.

in same lot, some of them have better speed than class number some of them have worst speed.
just use your luck.

wow, are you real sure you bought it from a honest seller? Because the middleman can always get a bulk for cheap if the original providers sold for less because of defects or human errors from the factory plant.....

SD Tools on the market is pretty good for testing read / write speeds of SD cards.
My Samsung 8GB class 6 gets over 9MB/sec writes and nearly 20MB/sec reads.

Anybody tried this 32 gb sd card? Awefully cheap, is it worth it?

Found this on Ebay, don't know though. It comes out of Shanghai and the price is cheap. I'm more worried about cheap crap wrecking my phone. Anybody try one of these yet?
http://cgi.ebay.com/SanDisk-32GB-mi...gital_Camera_Memory_Cards&hash=item1e5e54d767
it won't wreck your phone, but it will probably die after a few weeks - if that long. If you but it, be prepared to throw away your money at some point and all the data on the card.
SanDisk probably won't warranty it because it is probably counterfeit.
don't think u ever will get it
last 16gb card i bought over ebay was about 7€cheaper then all the rest and i never saw it - got money back by paypal thats why i tried (and he had about 100 positive votings).
this seems to be about 50€ cheaper then a normal 32GB card and he has 0 votings - so he propably tires to get the money and vanish into dust before Paypal can claim the money from him.
would buy something more recent.
I bought a 16gb kingston class 4 on amazon, it was around 45$, and they had a promo that if you signed up for an amazon credit card you get 30$ off your first bill. so bought it and paid it off for 15$.
Honestly, with Froyo coming soon and apps2sd, Id really reccomend investing in a good class 4 or 6. The faster the speed of the card, the faster your phone will be able to pull and push data to it.
Another note, my class 4 can move large files at about 8-9 mb/s, but if there are many small files it will only run about 3 mb/s, so Id really recommend a reputable brand. That is not to say the kingston doesnt work good, just to say one of those cheapo 30$ cards advertising class 6 will probably run much slower and break apart quickly
Good point about the speed issue. Can't wait for Froyo.

Class ratings apply to write speeds not read speeds. Theoretically you can write faster to higher class cards, but this usually applies to direct writes on the device (camcorder recording to card) not USB between phone and PC. The USB copies (PC to phone) may be faster, but you have a additional overhead of the USB bus.
Buy a name brand card. I have an 8Gb Sandisk class 2 and it works great for Camera, camcorder, and anything else i want to do with the phone software. My 1080P camcorder has class 6 cards, but it requires it.
I'd steer clear from buying memory cards/ usb flash drives on eBay. I've seen way too many people get scammed on getting what they thought was a 16gb flash drive and end up with a 128mb stick with 16gb screenprinted on it. These microSD's are no different.

Actually I tested this using the sdhc adapter directly to the SD card slot. so no USB/phone interface interfering here. And again, thats what I was stressing. Buy a name brand card, probably a class 4 or 6 considering the move to froyo.

So you got the same MB/s throughput with the card reader as well as the phone connected to the PC? Still puts the USB bus in the way. EDIT - NM I see what you were measuring.
I wonder what the transfer rate is on the phone - back and forth between internal SD and external SD.
Huh, interesting concept. I dont even know of a way to test that
I bought a 32gig card from China for 18 bucks shipped. 1st time I've been scammed on ebay. It seemed to show up as a 32gig, but the phone wouldn't recognize it and wanted to format it....sure thing I figured. Now it shows as an 8mb card that won't format no matter what I do. I disputed it to paypal after the auction/seller disappeared on ebay, but they want me to send it back to China to refund. I considered this might happen and was willing to risk 20 bucks, but it didn't end up well. The funniest part was that it showed up in Kingston packaging, but the date was 2008. I'm pretty sure 32 gig microSD's didn't even exist in 2008.
Thats terrible!! well good luck getting your money back... Lol so I guess if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Id just stick with trustworthy sellers, brands, and sites, and look for good deals!

I am not sure where you found this - but the official specs call for up to 32GB card:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I897ZKAATT-features
Many people are using 32GB cards. It is the limit of the SDHC spec, so the 16gb is probably a typo from somewhere.

Whoa. My quote was from page 34 of the user manual. It's crazy to find that download on the Samsung site. Here is the link (I can't post links yet in this forum):

Not sure if the one I purchased is the same because the item post has been removed but mine came from Beijing I believe. Came in a Kingston package which was obviously fake. Put it in my phone did a format and it showed a 32gb card. Writing files takes forever directly from the computer but everything looks good so far. Mainly using it for music.

[Q] Is it a best deal on ebay for 32GB Micro SDHC???

I just found an ebay.com seller listed a kingston 32gb micro sdhc (class 4) card for just $16 ...I dont whether its a genuine deal or not but till now has already sold more than 80 cards (within 12 hrs)....
here's the link http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270781614305&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Last week I saw a similar deal (32gb kingston for $20) I purchased 3 .... although paypal refunded all my money today when i raised a claim but it's such a waste of time....
Can anybody confirm whether its a genuine deal? ALso can anybody suggest a best deal (with worldwide shipping) for buying 32gb micro sdhc class 4 (or 10) card
Nope they are fake. when you plug it in it will show 32gb but in reality they are 1-2 gb cards. I once bought a 16gb flash drive which turned out to be 2gb. never buy flash memory on ebay esp from china. Buy from trusted sellers only.
the money for the "16gb flashdrive" was refunded to me.

If he sends the same kingston card as shown in the pic.... is thr any chance of gettin fake ...
I hv seen many loose or unbranded cards as fake ....hv u encountered any fake card in kingston's retail packing?
Yes they are fake. Fake packaging. Made mostly for schmucks like you who think they are real because of the box they come in. If you put a Lamborghini logo and a ford, Its still just a crappy ford.
Anyone can duplicate packaging even if it has holograms. Everything is easily duplicated. Also the card they state is a class 4, Which I doubt. Its most likely a class 1. Either way Class 4 is useless. Get at least a class 6 card or class 10 which is best. If you care at all about watching movies or recording in HD onto the card.
LESSON OF THE DAY:
IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.... IT IS!
Thanks everybdy... anyway the listing removed by ebay ...

Recording and playback will be fine with a class 2 card. You certainly don't need anything faster than class 4. The only advantage a class 6 or 10 card has would be faster transfers between your pc and the card.

I have both...I can claim without a doubt my Class 10 32GB Patriot is a lot faster than my 16GB Class 4 Sandisk.
Where do I notice it most besides PC transfers? Media scanner.... the 32GB scans more than twice as fast as the 16GB on reboots after changes. Well worth the $86.

It scans far more than a "bit quicker". It scans faster then the internal SD card!!
No matter.....I paid $600 for a phone...and am flashing custom ROMS and Kernels and donating to the developers and this site supporting them for more speed with stability, I am not going to cut corners in the same arena to save $40 on a lesser SD Card. I want to get the most out of the handset on all fronts. In that regard the class 10 card makes sense.
Then again people will pay $600+ for a handset, $300+ a year for a data plan and balk at paying $3 for a helpful app or donating to a developer. Strange world this mobile phone world indeed.

Just want to say that remember that Hong Kong is not China even if they are connected and the people look alike. Hong Kong has been a British ruled colony until 1995. China's government tried to make villagers make steel made in the villagers backyards. Do the math.

[Q] Best sd card

I have a scan disk 8gig sd card, the one that came with the phone. I'm looking to upgrade the sd card. I have two questions (I did search on xda sorry if I didn't see this question answered already)
1) What's the highest gig the Evo 4G will support?
2) What type of sd card should I get, like company name and all that?
Thanks.
32gb, san disk class 6
There really isnt a best card, just get the highest class you can afford.
The one piece of advice though, do NOT buy memory cards off ebay. 80% of the cards on there are fakes. Purchase from an authorized retailer, like newegg.

The company that has had the most positive results is SanDisk. Not all packages will say what class the card is so look for a "C" with a number inside of it. 10 is the best right now but SanDisk ones are hard to find. Like a previous poster said, Class 6 is the most popular and fairly nicely priced.

Unfortunately, it's not just eBay. Both CircuitCity (when they were in business) and most recently BestBuy have actually had fake SanDisk cards ON THEIR SHELVES. That's pretty brazen by the forgers.

Because SanDisk seems to be such a big target for forgeries, I switched to Kingston for my memory cards in my phone, tablet, camera, my kids' Nintendo DS, etc. I've been very happy with them.
Just recently I got a 32gb Class 4 Patriot for under $40 (for my Acer A500 tablet) and I'm very happy with its performance. So don't overlook Class 4 if money is a bit tight because it will get you a much bigger card for the money that still does the job well.
I have a 16GB Class 4 Kingston in my HTC Evo 4G and currently have it partitioned for running Synergy RLS1, which is also performing very well.

yes there are different speeds. the class is the speed. so there is class 2,4,6,10 and i think thats it as far as i know. so class 2 would write = 2mb/s, class 4= 4mb/s, class 6= 6mb/s and last class 10= 10mb/s. that is there write speeds. so the one in ur link is a class 4 so 4mb/s. i notice it when transferring files from my pc to the micro sd card

Are the 16gb, class 10 Samsungs that seem to be flooding ebay in their bulk packaging form with the Blue lettering genuine? How are their benchmarks compared to the white lettered ones (and are they genuine, too)?

I bought a bunch in bulk packaging due to the price a few months back. Haven't run into any noticeable problems as of yet.
From my understanding, the bulk packaging may seem like illegal counterfeits, but are not. They are sold in bulk packaging to manufacturers who claim they will use them in their devices. The excess ones are then sold through retail venues (against the agreement they have with sandisk).
I bought one of the white lettered ones from a US-based seller (nextwebsales) via an auction for 10 bucks. I'll post the benches on here when I receive it.
I received the card today and it was NOT the white lettered card shown in the picture, but rather the blue lettered one. I attached a couple of pictures. The card checked out in h2testw, so no problems with the capacity. I did a few benchmarks with crystaldiskmark and attached one that seems representative of the performance. Mind you, this was done with an integrated SD card reader (so using the included adapter) on a 6-year old dell laptop running Vista 32-bit, so until I finally get an android phone (soon, my precious, soon) or a card reader for my new PC, I can't be sure these benches are completely accurate. The sequential read speed seems a bit low and nothing else looks particularly spectacular. I'm not so sure this is genuine Samsung OEM, but for 10 bucks it seems decent until I actually invest in a real 32GB card when I replace my iPhone with an android counterpart.

Nice! While I can't say I recommend buying one of these sketchy cards from eBay, I will say I don't think I got ripped off. For the performance, reliability, and warranty of some of the name brand cards it's definitely worth the premium.
For Canadians looking for a cheap 16gb Class 10 microSD card:

Only $12.99, Super cheap if you could pick it up. I just grabbed one myself.
Well, I may have to amend my previous statements about this card. I just received a $0.99 microsd card reader from eBay and let 'er rip on my desktop (Windows 7 64-bit) and it yielded much different results. This was after a quick format and plugging in the reader into a front I/O port not directly soldered to the mobo. It looks like the laptop reader/Vista was throttling the performance. If it holds up, it may be a good deal.

what do you think - surely better than than class 6, or not?
be aware some people are not fond of play.com and their customer service. i have never tried their preordering service - perhaps others can share their experience?
whew! I just bought 64Gb Class 6 version. Since this is a new product, I hope it'll also work with our Note.
It works. But didn't want to work initially, formatted to fat32 and still nothing, but all of a sudden it works. Plugged in and out of my phone finally worked. When transfering, my phone crashes (turns off) Running latest Stunner, have to pull the battery, dunno what the bug is, but I have to install files plugged in directly for faster transfer, kinda slow with USB Mounted anyways.
I trust Rakuten, they are the best source to get East Asian goods and are very reputable, I guess you could say their the equivalent to an Amazon specialising in East Asian goods mainly from Japan.

thanks -
they are a reputable company and been around for ages but apparently their customer service is not very good
do you know if this card would be better than the class 6 64gb sandisk ?
are there any class 10 cards where the read data access times are as good as class 6?
Oh great if it's work with our Galaxy Note !!!
It's strange because it's a class 10 and it's not cheaper ... the class 6 cost very more ... I don't understand this one.

This is my biggest worries about buying microSD card with price that is "too good to be true".
I have bought many many microSD and SD cards (since the days of Windows Mobile phones) and there are tons of fake cards. I noticed that this is usually when the prices of the card is really cheap.
To the OP or whoever bought this card, what's the R/W speed? Use SD Tools from Google Play (link) to measure the speed. In the past, I have bought brand name card from even reputable seller (Amazon Prime) but Amazon themselves got FAKE card. I.e. I got a Kingston Class 6 16GB and the R/W speed is less than 1 Mbps (!!!) My Sandisk 8GB Class 4 R/W is more than 2Mbps.
Not to say bad thing about OP, but just to consider the above.

Hey thanks!
it is always a good idea to be cautious when you buy a memory card and that is why it is important to buy from a reputable store
it seems you were unfortunte to get a dud card as amazon (not amazon market) are usually a safe bet but i guess nothing is for certain in this world ... except death and taxes
Play (again not Play 'Market') are reputable also and been around for many years and i would trust them not to sell fake cards but it is their customer service that is bad. They usually discount things on a pre-release but sometimes they get the availability date wrong and so you might be left waiting. I know Amazon don't withdraw money until the item gets shipped but i don't think that is the case with play and that is where you might end up having a bad experience if they delay shipping etc
some still say a class 6 is better than 10?!!?
