Updating stock rom rooted to 2.3, will it unroot ? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
My desire hd's volume button broke.
So I wanna go back for warranty.
I still have a stock 2.2 rom rooted. I backupped it before I flashed a custom one.
If I restore that, and then update to official 2.3. Will it then unroot and go back to factory ?
Or how do I unroot ? And get S-on ?
Anyone help pls, I'm going back to the store tomorrow .
Thanks

Flashing your custom ROM will not remove ENG S-On, S-Off or Unroot.
Read jkoljo's Thread here: [TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide)
To go back to S-ON:
Flash stock ROM - Make sure it's named "PD98IMG.zip" & place on SDCard
Boot Bootloader & it will check for the PD98IMG.zip file, and ask if you want to install, Yes. Follow the promps. After boot.......
Temproot using Visionary
Use my tool, do Stock CID and S-ON (enter brand CID if you had a branded device, see second post)
Enjoy your factory-state phone
Just follow his guides exactly, and you will be right. Flashing the RUU will remove root, restore stock HBOOT, Radio & Recovery, but does not remove S-Off, so that's why you use Visionary for temp root & use the tool after.
When done, don't forget to remove Visionary & Superuser
Hope it work out OK.
EDIT: Didn't read your post properly. By flashing your backed up stock ROM, I pretty sure you will still have the HBOOT, Recovery, Root etc. Can't yet find a stock 2.2 RUU that will remove those (when flashed).
Maybe you'll find the answer in one of jkoljo threads.

Found the answer your looking for
Instructions on how to restore branded backup, and do s-on

Just flash a stock 1.32 RUU, then run radio s-off tool to go back to s-on. Just as described in the thread linked to above

Hi,
Thanks for the guide.
I used factory reset and it's back to standard now. It's unrooted etc, but clockworkmod is still on it.. And also s-off, but I'll do that with your tool. How do I get clockworkmod off ?
Thanks in advance

Factory reset will not remove root.
It's jkoljo's tool (didn't mean to mislead at all), I meant to show that I took the instructions from there and added some important / extra info.
Please read the link on my previous reply, has the info / steps you require. Plus related info in my 1st reply.

Thanks guys, it all worked out! I got S-ON now and fully factory state.
Cheers for the help!

No problem, don't forget to also remove the 'evidence' from the sdcard (PD98IMG.zip) , but in theory, yours is a hardware fault and not void warranty.

I cleaned my sd card hehe, but they give me back my sd card anyways. And there's also a software problem. When I turn it on from standby, the screen stays black and the buttons light up.. Also had this on a normal desire and then I bought this. So I'm wondering what they'll say now..

I noticed that before. I just remove the battery and reboot my phone.

If the above post, battery pull, doesn't work, it could be that the proximity sensor needs calibrating. Leppie has a tool / app in xda, not sure if require root though.
Edit: Here it is;
[APP] DHD Proximity Sensor Recalibrator 1.6 (18-Jun-11)
Edit2: You probably already know, but, make sure HTC don't update your software version updated to a build version 2.37 or higher. It can't be hacked yet. So you'll be screwed if you wish to enjoy all the goodies here at XDA.

[Q] Regarding flashing and what not.

Alright, so let me start off by saying that i'm a complete noob in the world of smartphones! I think i'm ready to throw a custom rom on my phone, but before i do that i'd like to have a couple of things clarified before i start screwing my phone up
So, in order to flash a custom rom onto my phone, firstly i need to downgrade my HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.80. No questions here really, seems pretty clear.
Then i need to gain root access to my phone, basically a 'protection' built in by most operating systems so that regular users wont screw things up by deleting/changing settings.
After that, i need to flash a custom recovery rom. This is basically a replacement for the original recovery screen which allows us to flash backup-images that we made (as the original recovery screen does not allow this). Correct?
Then i can flash a custom rom, which is nothing but a customized operating system by having certain things optimized and/or removed.
Now lets say everything worked out well and i have a custom rom on my phone, this means i have; Custom ROM + Custom Recovery + HBOOT 0.80.
If, for whatever reason, i need to send my phone back for repair. I would have to;
- Flash the backup-image that i made before starting this whole process.
- Flash the original recovery rom (is this possible?).
- Upgrade the HBOOT back to 0.92.
Correct?
I think thats all, thanks in advance!

1. You cannot make a backup image before starting the whole process. Nandroid to backup the whole system is only available after root.
2. You can flash the original rom, IF it is available.
3. The hboot would be upgraded automatically if you flashed an official HTC rom.
So basically if you are concerned about warranty issues and reverting back to stock, I'd have a look in the dev forum for official untouched roms, and see if yours is there. If it is then you just download it and flash it when needed. There is a thread listing official untouched roms for this very purpose!
Here's where you can get the stock HTC ROMs - if your current ROM is listed there then get it in case you ever have to unroot...
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
You can only downgrade the HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.80 if you have an AMOLED Desire - if you have an SLCD Desire you'll need a bit more work (at present, should change once unrEVOked gets updated)
Alright, thanks for the heads up! Just one more question, where can I see which rom I currently have installed? I have an unbranded HTC Desire with the 2.2 OTA update.
edit\
One more question, when downgrading my HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.80, do i need to make a GoldCard, or is this only needed for branded devices?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
A goldcard is normally only needed for a branded handset so you should be fine without one.
Your software version is found by Pressing menu, then tap about phone > Software information.

I knew where to find my software version, just wasnt sure which i had to download. I think i found it.
I have version 2.09.405.8, that should be this one:

Alright, so i installed a custom rom, didnt like it and decided to go back to stock 2.2 FroYo. My nandroid had a backup of a rooted 2.1 image, but using the system update from there didnt work as it whined about signatures.
So i ran the RUU update from my pc, everything is back to stock. 2.2 Froyo with a 5.x radio and 0.92 HBOOT.
Now i wanted to see if Clockworkmod Recovery had been removed aswell (read: see if the original recovery image was on there), but when i boot in to recovery mode, i get the red exclamation mark. After pressing Volume Up + Power i get the following message:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Is this normal for phones that 'haven't been messed with' (if you know what i mean )
I just don't want to get warranty issues incase something happens
Thanks in advance again!

Yes, that's totally normal. If you ran the ruu then you are back to an out of the factory handset.
Alright awesome, now i can go arround messing with ROM's again without having to worry that much. I guess i just had to go a bit of a trial and error to find out how it works, i've learned alot.
Just need to find a rom that looks close to a 2.2 stock one. I tried OpenDesire but didnt like all the custom stuff
Thanks!!

[Q] Root question

Hi guys, got my Orange-branded uk desire a couple of days ago and have been reading up on rooting etc ever since.
In homage to my username, i'm following this to remove the carrier software:
(rootmydroid.cx.ux/) guides/general/howto-root-your-htc-desire-wildfire-evo-incredible-with-unrevoked/
I'm at step 3. My question is where can i find the most up-to-date official htc rom to flash onto my desire? I know a google search will give me loads of choices, but a lot are now months old and I'm keen not to flash an old version - im running 2.2 at the moment, but i basically just want an unbranded phone without the hassle of making a goldcard.
Is there one single file out there that i need? or will it consist of seperate rom and a radio files? Will the rom come as a .zip or .exe?
I know its a basic question, and once i've got the answer i'll leave you alone and follow the guide myself....just didnt want to flash with unrevoked, and not have a rom to reflash!
if it helps, these are my details:
bravo pvt4 ship s-on
hboot 0.93.0001
micro 051d
touch panel synt0101
radio 5.10.5.30
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
You will need a Goldcard if you're moving off an Orange rom even if you're going to stock HTC.
This is the first thing to do before going any further.
As for an upto date stock unbranded rom, see http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
You will need to run this RUU on your PC while your phone is connected in fastboot mode.
Please be aware tho, that there isn't an Orange RUU available at the moment so going back to an Orange stock rom could be an issue.
Oh, and do a nand backup as soon as you have rooted.
Mike
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ah right, ok
I was under the impression that loading a rom via unevoked would effectively overwrite the rom i have now, meaning the carrier's applications would be removed in the process?
I guess a complete debrand isn't what I'm after - I don't mind if i still have the Orange logo on start-up (I don't want to unlock it from the Orange network either), as long as there are none of their applications like Orange Maps and Orange Photos when I'm actually using the phone.
Would i still need a goldcard for that? Or would i be able to follow the guide in the link in my first post, flashing the rom you suggested at stage 3?
Thanks in advance!
If you're going to go to a stock, unrooted, unbranded ROM then you won't be able to restore a nandroid backup as you need root!!
First thing, as said, is to make a gold card. Then use it to flash the 2.29.405.2 RUU. Then see how you get on as it is. If you still don't think it's doing what you need it to then root and go for a custom ROM
Right, ive created a goldcard using a guide on the unlockr.com
The website provides links to desire rooting tools 0.75 or 0.80 bootloaders, however mine is 0.93.0001. Can anyone offer any guidance please?
Thanks in advance!
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
can i use that with a goldcard to just debrand then? thought that was only for rooting?

The stock rom (or pretty near to stock) you posted a while back eddy was good enough for his needs do you think?
I think Frankdroid did a variation in your thread of it with root and a2sd+. I was using it for a while and battery was good and the rom smooth enough.

Right...
If you just wanna debrand, as is get rid of the Orange crap, and not be rooted then all you need is a gold card and the RUU from my signature. This will give you a stock, unbranded HTC ROM
If you wanna root and go for a custom ROM, use unrEVOked
yea, i just wanna get rid of the Orange crap. I've made my goldcard, following a guide on theunlockr .com, but have come unstuck when it lists some downloads for certain bootloaders that would allow me to run the RUU, however my bootloader is a lot newer so i wasnt sure where i go from here, now that i've made my goldcard
I've downloaded the RUU, but when i run the .exe, is says its not a valid win32 application....?
Basically i've got a goldcard and the ruu. How do i now get it loaded on my phone?
Which RUU did you download? Latest unbranded one is the one in my signature. Ignore guides online as they've not been updated for months
ive got the ruu from your sig. Goldcard was made following an old guide on the web. Will this be ok?
just not sure where to go next in terms of actually getting the ruu on my phone with the goldcard
Gold card guide is fine. That RUU is also fine as it's my upload and is the one I use myself (using Windows 7 Ultimate x64). Don't know why your version of Windows won't run it - unless it's a corrupt download
yeah, weird. Using Win xp. I'll redownload the ruu in your sig. Once i've got it, what do i do? Turn on phone with power/vol down? Then what do i need to select? I'm guessing once im in the right section, i just connect phone to pc, and just run the ruu .exe?
Sorry, loads of basic q's, appreciate your help!
Turn phone on holding the back button and you'll be in FASTBOOT. Connect to the PC and once your Desire says FASTBOOT USB run the RUU
An error (-5001 : 0x80070002) has occured while running the setup.

Bugger! Any ideas?
It worked! Thanks a lot for your help EddyOS

[Q] Unrooting for insurance

I have seen some threads about un-rooting for warranty claims, but want a definite answer before doing anything.
My DHD has ENG S-OFF, Radio S-OFF and Clockwork Mod Recovery, and basically I want someone to be able to tell me/ point me in the direction of files and instructions for returning my handset to 1.32 stock with no superuser, custom recovery or s-off's of any kind.
Also, if the engineers where to update my phone like i know their prone to doing, is it still possible to downgrade back to 1.32 and root again to get my beloved MIUI back?

you can download a stock rom from the links on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846248
And It'll take the HTC back to it's factory defaults, as if it was new. It'll probably be best to use the RUU (that's what it's called) for Orange UK (if your phone's locked to that, assuming you updated your operator)
HOWEVER! Running an OTA update to gingerbread from the new system'll leave you with a probably unrootable Desire HD (to check if it's still got the radio S-off at least, go into fastboot and check that the CID is just 1's)

So I would install this like a ROM through Clockwork Mod?
So would this RUU remove all of my custom recovery, and S-OFF's? It's just I wanna make sure it's all gone just in case....
So there is no way that these can be downgraded like 1.72 can be?
Narh, you don't flash it through clockwork mod, it's run from your computer. You'll need the HTC Sync application installed on your computer, and a sense rom to connect the phone via htc sync.
When you run the RUU, it'll tell you what to do. I think it removes a ENG S-OFF but but a radio S-OFF'll stay on the phone (it is more or less permanent). However, I don't think the radio s-off'll show up in fastboot that obviously.
The reason you can't downgrade the firmware on RUUs is because in the process of rooting, the phone's CID changes to 111111111 (or something) so the PD98IMG file for downgrading will refuse to work with the phone because of an "Incorrect CID"

[SOLVED] Back to stock

Hi!
I'm having several issues with my DHD, one of them being that suddenly, for no reason, I can only boot in HBOOT...
That's why I need to send my phone back to warranty, and therefore to get it completely back to stock, and I have a few questions I'd like to ask before I start messing with my phone :
_If I flash an RUU, I assume my phone will be back to stock firmware and radio?
_How do I remove CWM?
_I'm not sure if I'm radio S-OFF, how do I know it and how to set it back to S-ON?
_I currently have SuperCID (1111111 or something like that), how to set it back to normal?
_Most important of all, if I flash an RUU, will I still be able to flash the original HBOOT?
Many thanks in advance!
PS: I know that there are already many threads about how to get back to stock, but I'm pretty sure none of them answer all of the above questions.
All you have to do is install from pc using RUU with exe(not zip from sd card) so that you don't have to worry about anything. Simply connect to pc and run exe..done.
Using the RUU also removes anything custom. ENG-S-OFF CWM etc will be gone. You will have to do the downgrade and root process over.

Not really, He'll still have Radio S-Off, so he'll be able to downgrade with an earlier version RUU without having to temproot.

[Q] Flashed RUU but still S-off, i think i am stucked

SITUATION:
I had my DesireZ rooted almost a year now( unluckily by visionary.)
I was using a CM7 rom and i decided to unroot it so that i can gain my warranty back. I googled and flashed a RUU to my phone (This RUU)
But afterwards i found that i still have S-off. I accidentally format my SD card too.....
PROBLEM:
1) I cannot find a way to turn it back to S-on
2) I decided to give up on turning it back to s-on, but i cannot use custom recovery as i cannot operate Superuser somehow.
s-off means your unlocked. you can unroot your phone but you still have to lock it. follow guides in sticky. also i would root my phone again and then start fresh with the wiki
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I found my software number is 1.34, i checked other threads...
is that the reason i cannot root?
You should run gfree with the -s on arg.
