[Q] How to fix Desire and reflash everything from scratch ?? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi .. I have a problem with my HTC Desire (GSM). Alpharev was installed to enable S-OFF. I messed something up and now my Desire boots into fastboot but there is only black screen. I can communicate with phone using fastboot command but screen is dead. It's not a problem with a screen but probably with bootloader etc. I've got goldcard.. How to reflash Desire from beginning ?
Please help

download fastboot commander and run that......see if it says your phone is s off.....if for some reason you can see any screen dialogue then maybe flash a recovery/hboot.....your phone is probably bricked mind....sorry

Check out this thread.....it gives you the "blind steps" on how to get to recovery etc when the screen is black:

angusc - you saved my ass
I had to flash with original rom from my polish provider (fastboot in RUU mode). It ended with error 90 but screen started working so I moved rom (zip) to sdcard (PB99IMG.zip) and restore ended successfully.
It didn't resolved my primary issue - overheating. It looks like I have to send my Desire to warranty. At the beginning everything was fine but after few months it started to reboot randomly when phone was in use and now phone reboots every few minutes.. When phone is turned off there is no problem to boot properly but after few minutes it crashes again because is overheated and goes into reboot loop during boot process.

Glad it helped you out
Sent with Desire.

[Q] PB99IMG

Tried to flash(or whatever) the PB99IMG because after i used unrevoked it got stuck at the white HTC logo screen.
Everything was OK except the RADIO_V2 was Fail-PU. Therefore, making the update partion fail and nothing changed with my phone, it still get stuck at the White htc logo screen
------
BACKGROUND INFO
HTC Desire 2.2 >> tried rooting it with unrevoked and then rebooted and can only get to bootloader or the white HTC logo screen
The PB99IMG.zip that i used was "PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed"
Thnx in advance
Run it again, had the same thing happen yesterday trying to go stock from being S-OFF but sith the System part failing. Ran the PB99IMG.zip a second time (about an hour later) and it went through without any issues
I ran it again .. same prob ... I think I'm s-on(don't know what this means or what this affects )
I tried it,one more time (after hours) ... it worked everything ok! .... Sadly it didn't solve my prob .. its still stuck on HTC logo screen
How long did you leave it on the logo? Took 5 minutes to boot after doing mine
Not sure like 15 min .. then powered off automatically
I'd wipe the data if I were you just to be on the safe side but failing that you might have killed it
How do I wipe the data ? ... its stuck on white screen.
Turn it off (pull the battery), go into HBOOT. There should be an option for 'Clear Data', might possibly be in FASTBOOT - I can't remember
Cleared data .. do I use pb99img again ?
No, just reboot
Still stuck
Got any other ideas what i should do ?
i have the same problem
any solution to solve it
my htc stuck in first screen !
i'm stuck at step 9: SPLASH2
and then it does nothing ://
any ideas what to do?? please help

Bootloop!

My desire (running GV 2.2, S-ON) rebooted itself about an hour ago and now seems to be in a bootloop - reboots on the htc logo screen.
Tried getting into recovery but it hangs on the same htc screen after selecting recovery...
Any ideas on how to revive it?

Try booting without sd card in the phone.
Any luck yet?
I've been having similar problems and have now resorted to using and RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667) and formating my SD card with a single partition - just really need this phone not to die as I still have 12 months left on my contract, *sigh*
Thanks both, I managed to get it going again via RUU. I'm actually selling the phone fairly soon, so wanted to go back to stock at some point anyway.

[Q] Desire HD almost dead (only boots to fastboot). Any way to S-ON?

I had a Desire HD for a year. I just started rooting and using custom roms three months ago.
A few days ago, when I got the phone from charging, I found it frozen. I restarted it to get a looping "force close" for almost all processes. I restarted it again to the same result; the third time I restarted the phone emited 7 short vibrations just after powering it, and after some time in the initial HTC logo it froze in a black screen.
I tried to reflash my last custom rom I used, so I booted to ClockworkMod recovery and tried to reinstall the last ZIP file I kept on my SD card from last time, it installed ok, but then I got the exact same scenario: 7 vibrations, HTC logo, black screen of death.
Later, I tried to flash another custom rom, but now I can't boot to recovery. It does the exact same thing as trying to do a standard boot.
So now I'm stuck in Fastboot. I tried flashing a stock rom (downloaded the lastest official RUU), but while it seems to flash it ok, it still hangs the same. I also tried to flash copying the ROM.ZIP file from the RUU to the root of the SDCARD as PD98IMG.ZIP, but while it also seems to flash the ROM ok, it still fails to boot.
This is what I discovered (Googling):
-The 7 vibrations means bad CPU. What I don't understand is why fastboot works perfectly without any hang but can't boot even in recovery mode.
-I can't use my warranty while the phone is ENG S-OFF.
I think I succeeded to flash a stock ROM, so now the only thing that keeps me to carry my phone to fix is the ENG S-OFF. Is there a way to set ENG S-ON while in fastboot?

Ive had multiple vibrations thats when i was deving on something (unreleased)
Take out battery for 30mins then put it back n try recovery mode again, make sure you install a custom rom again after full wiping
EDIT: flashing stock ruu should s-on, then redo s-off that should fix it afaik

I already did this (not intentionally). It doesn't change anything.

If flashing stock RUU should s-on, then the flashes I tried didn't complete. I guess the flash finishes after the first boot, but as the phone hangs before booting, no flash is done?
Anyway, if this helps somehow, this is what shows my fastboot:
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF

[Q] What exactly is on the emmc and what should not work when it is fried ?

After self rebooting while trying out vlc beta et freezing:
My DZ refuses to (symptom is I end stuck on green HTC logo on white screen for each of these possibilities):
* boot to OS
* boot to recovery (through bootloader) (So no adb possible)
* factory reset from bootloader
It will however:
* boot to bootloader (Vol-+Power) and go to fastboot
* accept flashing via fastboot (Ive flashed various recoveries and finally even reflashed stock RUU hoping it could help)
I've notice that when I tuen it on normally, I vibrates then I get HTC logo than after a few seconds it vibrates once and stays on HTC logo
For the record this has allready happend once in the past... and I eventually got it to reboot by leaving the DZ batteryless for a hole weak (I tried 24h, 48h and eventually a weak) before putting the battery back in and seeing it let me boot it to recovery... My reasonning behind this wait was that there might be accumulated static somewhere and that leaving it out batteryless would drain all juice out and the static with it (based on computer motherbaord issues allready encountered)... Since then I have been on Virtuous Unity, Affinity, Quatro and lately Andromadus Audacity Beta1-4 and lastly mimicry whithout any problems.
So right now It is again sitting out battery less for several days as 24h has not sufficed...
As I wait (I'm suffering o an old iPhone 2g...) I have been going through all the forums looking for information... And have found tons of issues concerning the emmc and its "fryability". However everytime people talk about fried emmcs they seeem to be booting to recovery without an issue...
If the phone never boots, I'm guessing there are 3 possible explanations:
* emmc
* motherboard
* cpu
Now I've found that all can be repurchased (yeah warranty gone for me as I'm S-Off and unless I can boot one last time permroot and revert gfree I will stay S-Off) at http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-desire-z/
But the real question is: Is there a way to determine if emmc is fried (I'm booting to bootlader which seems to be on emmc from my understanding)
Finally I've allways assumed that it is useless to leave the phone at HTC logo more than 30 seconds... is this a mistake ?
Thanks in advance for any help/answers
P.S. Does the battery charge when in bootloader or fastboot ? If not I might not be able to reccharge it once it is drained...

first see what chip you have, you can use adb commands within your bootloader
have you been able to get fastboot to work at all?
Thanks for all the links, I had allready read those threads and those are what generated my questions.
Yes fastboot seems to work (flashing ends with OK every time)
I have tried to adb to the phone when in bootloader but that is a no go (From my research I thought the phone had to be either booted normally or in recovery to be able to adb to it and since I can do none of those two...)
When I reflashed stock 1.34 ROM from fastboot it overwrote the bootloader and replaced the engineering one with the stock one (I can see that when in bootlader)... So am I correct in assuming that the emmc is not fried and that all flashboot flashes are therefor working ?
to my understanding some blocks in the emmc get corrupt and others don't, just being able to rewrite hboot or recovery doesn't mean everything is fine it may just mean this block is ok. where you able to write a new recovery and boot into it?

Flashing a recovery seems OK (i.e. according to command line it worked) but booting to it does not work...
I've tried cwm and 4ext (used to be on 4Ext).
I'll wait out my week with the battery pulled out and see what happens when I put it back in... But if it does boot I'm S-Oning it and send it in for warranty because this behavior isn't normal...

Well no luck...
I've reflashed it with HTC 1.34.405*RUU.exe --> Seemd to go fine but didn't reboot after
I've reflashed using the corresponding PC10IMP.zip on /sdcard and booting into bootloader:
where I got
BOOTLOADER ok
BOOT ok
RECOVERY ok
SYSTEM ok
etc...
Everything said OK... but still won't boot to OS or to recovery stays on green HTC logo on white background.
I've noticed 2 things:
* that on booting it vibrates once then a few seconds (~5) it vibrates once again while on HTC green on white logo and just stays there after...
* that when it is off and I plug the usb, the led does not turn on... (indicator of mobo problem ?)
Well tonight I tried reviving the phone again... 10 days without touching the phone...
Lets' back up here... 10 days ago I flashed a modified Stock PC10IMG of 1.34.405.5 RUU - modified because I repalced bootloader with DZ engineering one and recovery with 4ext-touch-recovery-1.0.0.3-RC3. But the phone would not:
* boot to recovery
* fastboot boot 4ext-touch-recovery-1.0.0.5-RC3.img
* fastboot boot boottosd.img
So back to tonight... I tried
fastboot boot 4ext-touch-recovery-1.0.0.5-RC3.img
and it booted to recovery right away (less than 10 seconds... in the past I have left it for more than 10 minutes without succes...) and complained that cache partition needed wiping... (This is odd to me I thought the PC10IMG flashing would do that...)
So anyways I did just that and then went for the emmc version and got:
#cat /sys/class/block/mmcblk0/device/name
SEM04G
So normally the good emmcs...
Then I rebooted to recovery from Nand flash (not fastboot) worked and finaly rebooted to stock 1.34.405.5 (i.e. rooted for now)
So now I'm just wondering WHAT HAPPENED ?
I did nothing in between 2 series of similar boot tests... except wait 10 days.
I'm leaning more and more towards static electricity problems...
So now I'm wondering... Get back to S-on ? but I'ts working so servicing will not be accepted... Or going back to Andromadus mimicry (I have a backup I can apply )
Well going for andromadus as I allready bought a phone with broken lcd for parts !
If anyone has commands he would like me to run I'm more than willing to do it...

Htc one V CDMA bootloop on Htc logo screen

Hello everyone a few weeks back I had unlocked and flashed a custom rom on my phone Pacman V.14 or so
everything went well and scince then the phone worked flawlessly
Yesterday my signal on my phone went blank I had no signal at all it was roaming everywhere clearly it was a antenna problem as the phone was not on airplane mode. I decided to reboot the phone to see if that would fix it well... now when it turns on it just gets to the htc screen and it shuts off and restarts and it just loops endlessly
I said ok no problem Ill just relock the loader fastboot flash boot.img and recovery.img from a RUU then run the RUU
the RUU recovery was successful and when It reboot I had the same problem now I dont know what to do
the phone is screwed right?
