so after a year, the red on my ear piece is starting to fade a bit, but what's worse is under it is definitely some dust and/or gunk that i tried to get at with a toothpick but even that was too thick to fit in there..here's a pic. any idea how to clean it out?

A vacuum cleaner?
Its a beeyotch to clean... There's a piece of foam under there so even with the grill off (which is underneath the glass) its something that is tedious
ah damn. oh well, then i won't even bother trying lol,..i got some out with a toothpick atleast
if it's affecting sounds quality, I'd check with a refurb if still within a year, if not, oh well. adds character
I noticed mine gathering lint from the first few days of owning it. Kind of annoying, but it doesn't noticeably affect sound quality and it doesn't seem like there's an easy way to clean in there, so I'm not too concerned. When the phone was brand new, I was much more paranoid about making sure it stays in perfect condition.

My screen is starting to get dusty on the inside. I'm going to have to clean it soon, but I keep putting it off because it's such a process to make sure there is nothing on the screen before you put the phone back together.
I've been able to successfully return phones to Verizon due to dust under the screen. Its considered a manufacturing defect. It should not happen. Happens more often on Motorola's though.

Anyone else having this issue? A few days ago the power button started to squeak every time I press on it. It's been really bothering since it makes it feel like a worn out old phone. I've only had it for about 3 weeks too.
Any suggestions on how to fix it? I am thinking about putting some mineral oil but I am not sure if this will work or if it's even a good idea.
For that button, I'd put some mineral oil on the corner of a piece of paper, just enough to apply a thin coat. Then stick the corner inbetween the button and housing to lube it. That way you will not risk getting it inside and will have no seepage. Reapply if needed.
A button that squeaks that moves maybe a fraction of a millimeter. Hmm.
My squeaks too since I got this phone

This may be me being amazingly paranoid, but the top of my nexus picked up a staple off my work desk and took it with it.
I've never had a magnetic phone before, and it doesn't do this at the bottom of the phone, just the top.
I'm a bit concerned about putting it by my head now, but I don't really want to make a hat out of tin foil to use my phone.
Anyone else notice their phone doing this?
its highly possible the internal speaker is quite close to the plastic case speakers have magnets on them.......

Little know fact that the Nexus was spliced with a Magpie.
Be careful or more shiny things will go missing

but the nexus is shiny..........mind = blown
Im guessing that if its the speaker that its actually no worse than wearing big headphones
Nice - maybe I can turn my Nexus into an expensive Fridge Magnet while they fix the volume problem
You can also glue a piece of metal to your head and instant hands free

Now that is genius. And much cheaper than an overpriced bluetooth headset.
The other month the metal frame round my Desire came loose to the point that it protruded quite uncomfortably in the hand. I bought and fitted a whole new case which was no problem, however now it lets in a lot of dust, mostly through the middle left of the screen, and I'm not talking about a little bit of dust, it lets in crazy amounts that after 2 weeks ends up obscuring the screen completely and I have to take it apart and clean it. I've added a couple of photos to show what I mean:

I think it's to do with the seal but I'm not sure exactly. Anyone else had this issue, or could help? Thanks.
There is a bit of a seal between the glass and the metal in the desire which you might need to replace one way or another. I also think the glass is put on during manufacture in vacuum conditions.
People who repair watches or replace batteries on watches that require to go x number of meters under water have to go through a similar process. Might be worth seeing what they can do.
it's quite unfortunate. Good luck with sorting out the issue.
I have the same problem. I once dismantaled the entire thing, cleaned out the dust and put it back together. It mostly got cleared for a while but then came back.
I've gotten used to it now...
Awhile back I bought a screen protector and it came in.
I read the instructions and everything, finally ready to apply.
I start applying and the first thing I notice is 3 layers of **** protecting the screen protector.
So eventually I ruined the first one because of dust and didn't know what ****ing layer was the screen protector.
I start on number two with a better attitude thinking I got this *****, the hell you know it gets screwed over. Apparently somewhere in between applying I bent the *****.. and this causes it to look like **** even then there was bubbles everywhere, where it says its bubble free
I don't even want to apply number three because I know something horribly will go wrong. Did anyone else use this brand and what was your experience?
I'd also like to note it did get scratched when applying the film too. Piece of **** companies
To top it off I got my case in too and it looks used, looks like a coffee stain on the back and was poorly cut.

Today I noticed that my phone has a crack that goes across the bottom and crosses the mic hole. No drops no cuts. I taken care of this phone and this is what I get. The cut even goes and crosses the silver band. It's awkward. I wonder if tmobile will trade it for a newer one. Makes no sense. The note 3 or iPhone lasted longer without any types of normal wear cracks.

Its probably just a bad picture but the bottom of your phone looked like it was dropped.

kinda see what you mean where the crack is looks like scuff marks
Just noticed as well today mine has THE same crack through the mic on bottom of phone and also on top of phone through infrared sensor. It's a known and not isolated problem among many G3 owners across the globe. Google it.
No scuffs. Just the way it came out. This really sucks.
