k i read about an app called spare parts on here so i figured hey i'll try it out. i did saw what extra setting were there and decided i wasn't gonna use it didn't even change any settings.
after opening the app and then pressing home something wierd happened i saw a white screen with HTC in green in the center for about 3-5 seconds my backround with a loading pop-up and nothing else for about another 3-5 seconds. this is happening every time i press the home button or exit out of an app. it's getting infuriating, i'm also getting wicked bad lagg in sense and lot's of hang up's and force closes. also wicked bad battery life. i don't know what to do to fix it.
i have the OTA and rooted last night with unrevoked method, this morning is when i tried the app around 10 or 11 not sure last couple days is a blur.
can anyone help, how can i restore what i had previously, do i have to do a full wipe.

get used to it if you intend to use sense, the screen you speak of is sort of like the htc sense/rosie intro. If you dont like it you can go vanilla and use another launcher, like adw froyo, launcherpro, or even the extra launcher thats included....
Sounds like you enabled aggressive handling of apps. Can you get in there to turn it off?

Or just do a factory reset.
also, you are experiencing some isolated problems which leads me to beleive the issue is software related rather than hardware.I have experienced NOT ONE of the issues you speak of. Make sure you update prl. I can vouch for that one. My data was 90% broken till i did. Also try and wipe data, that would prolly fix everything as well.....FYI, i cannot gurantee the problem lies with your hardware OR software. Thats just my diagnosis. Good luck

Heh...I did that once on my hero. I know the feeling.
some versions of spare parts come with a launcher. the problem is that when you press the home button now, it's trying to goof with /system, which is forcing the reboot. even though you may be rooted, you don't have rw privileges in /system while messing with android.
you may be able to get away with accessing /system and erasing your goofy installed spare parts app. you'll have to do that through adb shell, and the custom recovery. do a search for 'remove apps', you should find it easily enough. i think the thread was moved from dev to general, or q and a.
anything that will call a write to /system (i.e. a rooted app that needs access to it to work right) has the potential to cause the phone to reboot. when i installed adfree, it had the same effect. trying to install hosts (which write to /system/etc) caused a reboot. i had to install hosts through recovery with a push after remount.
hope that helps
Hmm I installed autokiller and it appears to work doesn't mess with anything that is
I really dunno a way of testing that its actually working though if you where looking for a way to manage memory
I was using a task killer but read up on stuff and turned it off just keeping it in case I need it for something that wont close and the phone is running great and battery life keeps getting better and better.

autokiller
People you need to be careful with autokillers!
Make sure that you are not closing down sense items.
Put anything that says htc or sense on ignore.
If not you are shutting down parts of sense. Then sense has to reboot. Witch is why you see the white screen with the htc logo in the middle.
Hey guys, I'm new to posting, but I've referenced the site alot. Anyways, I rooted using unrevoked 3. Ran fresh by flipz for a couple weeks, then evio 2, all is well until now. Decided to download cyan 6 stable, thought it was awesome, but I like variety. Switched to fresh, no backlighting on the 4 bottom UI "buttons." I've unrooted my phone, wiped the SD, factory reset, re rooted, downloaded a rooted "stock Rom" and I still can't get the lights go come on unless I'm running c6. I'm losing it so if anyone knows what or where I went wrong, please post ASAP! Thank you so much in advance! I hope its something simple since I've gotten so many hours in over one problem. Ps. I'm a night owl, its 5:45am. So I definitely miss the backlighting lol. Thanks again.

I also just noticed the proximity sensor isn't working so when I make phone calls the screen stays lit. So frustrating. All bc of the settings in cyan. I'm so lost.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Anything guys? I don't want to only have cyan for a for a Rom, and its heat don't get me wrong, like I said I like variety. Help out if you can.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Did you make sure to do a full wipe before going from cm6 to fresh? Going between a sense and asop rom usually requires a wipe
Yes. I went through the entire unrooting process again last night, installed a rooted factory Rom. Latest ota. Even the stock Rom didn't function correctly after full wipe factory reset and deleting all contents on my SD. I'm running Cyan until I find a fix bc it is really annoying. By full wipe. I use clockwork latest. Wipe data, factory reset, and Cache. And then advanced wipe dalvic. Am I missing something?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thanks for the effort this far. I just can't believe nobody but me has this problem. Cyan 6 has the on screen power widget. By default. I tried leaving that the same and flashing to fresh, tried to go into Cyan settings, all the lights are set. To zero by default, so I put those at 255 and wiped and flashed fresh, and other Roms still no lights or proximity sensor??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Try flashing again, but this time use amon ra instead of clockwork to wipe and flash. See if that helps.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Ok. I can install recoveries from clockwork through amon?e
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
No - there's the rub. But you can switch to amonra to wipe and flash just to resolve this issue, and then switch back to clockwork once its loaded. If you go this route, do a nand backup with amonra first, so you can restore in case something goes wrong with the initial flash.

Going through the process right now. Thanks and I'll let you know the results. This has been a 3 day headache. Cyan is cool, but I like to switch to sense occasionally. C6 is nice, and i can't complain bc its hard work for free. I am at a loss. I just did all of the above you instructed, same result, so I wiped and flashed again just to see what would happen, still no bottom lights or proximity sensor!!! Losing my mind. Any other suggestions please lmk, I'm checking this every 5 minutes lol. Thanks for trying. I've googled this and found no similar issues either. Sucks.

ok - as long as you're sure that you wiped all three in amonra and it still didn't work I have another option for you. I'm not a dev, and I'm not familiar with any recent builds of CM, but I am familiar with an app called Tasker. I've tested a few Tasker profiles that when set up, will monitor the proximity sensor and turn the screen off when it senses something (like your face) is close, and another profile that will turn the capacitive buttons on and off depending on the ambient light levels.
You would need both the tasker app and the locale execute plugin. Are you familiar with Tasker? You can get a 7 day free trial from their website here, and the locale execute plugin free from the market. If you want to give it a shot let me know, and let me know how familiar you are with setting up tasker profiles (so I know how detailed my instructions should be), and I'll spell it out for you.
This should work, unless your prox sensor and cap buttons are completely broken.
I have no experience with tasker profiles at all, so if you don't mind giving specific details I'm willing to try it out!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
dammit - things always seem much simpler in the middle of the night. The proximity profile isn't working right. It will turn off the screen fine, it just wont turn it back on - it would have to be turned on manually (if thats ok for you though let me know).
Try this app though - it simulates the way the proximity tool works, except instead of turning of the screen based on proximity sensor, it puts a black box over the entire screen whenever you're on a call (so you don't press anything by accident), and you long press a button to get rid of that black screen.
I'm testing the other profile now - the one for the capacative buttons. Now that I'm more awake I want to be sure I didn't miss anything there either.
edit - ok, I'm an idiot and I need to stop making claims when I'm tired. For the capacitive buttons, the profile will turn them on when it's dark, and turn them off when it's light, but I can't seem to get it to time out - so they'll always stay on when it's dark. I'm pretty sure I can set up a toggle widget to turn them on and off, though - let me know if you want to go that route.
Sorry about this - didn't mean to be so lame.
That's pretty much the way I have Cyan setup. Have to click the lock button to turn my screen off, and the lower 4 button lights only go off when I turn off the screen. So off, so yeah just send them when you can buddy. Thanks again.

I cant imagine I'm going to have to restore this to factory and then return it, with all the other guys bouncing from rom to rom with no trouble. Somebody has to know what setting I shouldn't have changed? Please help guys. This Evo is my life. You guys no how it is
Sorry I haven't been able to get that workaround going for you, but there's a thread in themes and apps where somebody posted a gscript script to toggle the capacitive buttons on and off. It's much simpler than what I was going to set up, and unlike tasker, gscript is free.
for the proximity part, if that app didn't cut it for you, the tasker profile would have worked like this - and you only need tasker for this, not that locale execute app.
1. Hit new, and give the profile a name like proxoff and hit ok.
2. go into the state options and select proximity sensor. Hit done.
3.hit the plus at the bottom left, and go into the display options and select display timeout
4. Set it to the lowest setting which is seven seconds. Hit done, then hit done again to get back to the main screen.
4. Hit new again, and name this one timeoutrestore
5. Go into the event options and select display, then select display on and hit done
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4, but this time use your normal timeout setting. Done, done, done all the way out.

Still no luck brothers. I'm going to run cyan 6 until there's a specific fix for that. I'm good at following directions so I don't see where I went wrong. Anyone else have serious issues with the inc2? I am not sure if mine is constantly running out of memory or something, but I have tried using a task killer which did not help. Push email does not push, whole phone slows down when all I do is run Facebook and use the default internet browser, and I mean to the point of the text becoming lagging, where I can continue to tap letters out and then it literally has to catch up to write it all out.
I have done a few factory reset and now have no applications installed and still see the phone struggling to type this very post out.
Sometimes it for so annoying that I just had to restart the phone or if that had trouble loading would simply pull the battery out.
Could the phone be over heating or something? Because it does not seem like it is an issue with background applications as it always tells me that I have more that 90% of the memory free.
I would somewhat understand if I was watching some highdef movie, streaming Pandora all at the same time...but no.
Sounds like my Eris before root...something is wrong...maybe try to swap if for another?

Do you use the HTC email app? Apparently this causes a lot of the problems you are describing.
i've been having some of these issues also, especially the typing lag. not really sure why. but i'm hoping that with a new custom ROM, things will be resolved.
I've had some of the same issues as described but I found it to be fixed once I got into the default recovery and cleared out the cache.
It doesn't erase anything on the phone and seems to have helped things out for me tremendously.
Just be prepared the first boot afterwards will take a while.
You also need to disable fast boot in the power menu through settings in order to access the default recovery.
Vol down + power I believe.

Yes I do. Mainly to push my university's email, which uses gmail. I guess I will try to use the gmail application instead and see how that works.
Ugh, hopefully Gingerbread fixes and upgrades a lot of this stuff.

Damn, it seems that disabling that HTC mail app and using the gmail app instead not only actually pushes email within seconds but also a lot of the lag seems to be absent. Weird, what the hell was HTC app doing, lol?

Unless I'm wrong, the HTC mail app will only push Exchange accounts. Everything else is polled at an interval. It can be a good part of keeping the phone awake/draining the battery. Though, it is for legitimate reasons.
Was browsing the Android Forum on XDA and happened to run into a thread about a program called Ram Manager. Its getting pretty much rave reviews in the thread and market so I decided to give it a try. I don't want to get ahead of myself but my Nitro is seeming to run much better with it. Just thought I would pass it along to my fellow Nitro users to see if you guys think it makes your phone better. There is a paid and free version on the market at
https://market.android.com/details?...WFydHByb2plY3RzLlJBTU9wdGltaXphdGlvbkZyZWUiXQ..
The thread on XDA can be found here

UPDATE: Ram Manager requires ROOT
I have no connection with this developer and just want to pass a possible lag fix down to the community.
What the heck, $2 wasn't going to kill me, so I bought it.
Only been running it about 10 minutes but I've been opening and switching back and forth to my most commonly used apps and so far it's been pretty much instantaneous. So far so good!
Thats what I thought also. Posted here because I wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts. I bought it too. Like to support the devs here.
guys is this something you have to start up manually after each reboot? i restarted after an install and didn't notice it running in my app manager... thanks!
ive got it running, seems ok. i think at this stage we're dealing in millisecond differences, lolz.
i think i saw a bigger difference in things when i installed juice defender ultimate and set it up properly.

You do not have to start it up after each reboot. It adjusts memory scheduling parameters and they are saved after each change made.

Ram Manager changes memory settings on your phone (memory scheduler settings that prioritize certain appliciations and set the timeouts for applications before they are cleared out of ram) that persist through reboot. When you change your ringtone, do you expect to see a ringtone service running after every reboot?
You guys are so spoiled! The phone is lightning fast (as soon as you get rid of the laggy stock launcher). How much more fast do you need to be satisfied?
/me gonna try it now too...
thought on this so far? how are y'all figuring out if it makes an impact or not? i've been running it for several days now and disabled it this morning to see if i notice a diff

Ram Manager is executed After Startup, but all it needs to do is change memory settings, then it ends.
i've been trying to confirm that it *kills* apps that are running that are not being used. have several running all morning that haven't been used.
I would love it if my screen stayed off when I'm not using my phone. My screen is constantly lighting up. Many different things can trigger it, but once the screen is lit up, it stays lit for hours. This is very stressful. I have not modified my phone; it is stock. I have installed an Snes emulator and Worms Armageddon. That's it.
When I'm charging the phone, I'm usually asleep. When the phone completes recharging, the screen lights up and stays lit ALL FREAKING NIGHT. When I wake in the morning, I have to reach over and hit the button. When it's in my pocket and I receive a text, the screen lights up and STAYS LIT until I reach in and hit the button. Sometimes the phone is lit for an hour or more before I notice the heat in my pocket.
Also, this phone is huge and beautiful and I love it, but it's so wide in my pocket that the power button is constantly being pressed somehow. This also causes the screen to light up and stay lit inside my pocket. So far on average 80-90% of my battery is CONSTANTLY CONSUMED by this screen constantly turning on and staying on when I don't want it to. Do I have any options?
Is there a rom that addresses these issues?
1. Happened a couple times on my wife's stock rooted phone. A dalvik cache clear set it right whenever it happened.
2. Get a TPU case that has holes for buttons. This way buttons would be accessibly only by accessing it wantedly, and not by pockets.
3. Install greenify, and push all games to that. This way your emulator would be put to hibernate mode until needed again.

Yep I'm crazy. I flashed back to stock and low and behold it wasn't there.
I don't feel much closer to a solution here. I would really like to know: Is this behaviour normal for the S3? Do your phones do this too? Or is it just mine? My Galaxy (original) never did this kind of thing. It would light up, then time out, and turn off the screen, like a phone should.
Just today, I open my work locker to check my S3. Screen's on again of course. Why is it on? Because I got a text 2 HOURS AGO. I just .... don't freaking understand this behaviour. It's AWFULY FRUSTRATING AND STRESSFUL.

1. I looked it up. A "dalvik chache clear" requires that I install something called the "Clockwork Mod" - is that right?
2. I have never used a case for my phone and I NEVER will. I suppose I'll just have to put up with the button problem. I'll be more careful maybe.
3. How would pushing my games to greenify solve my problem? Doesn't android automatically hibernate all unused apps anyway? And do you think my Snes emulator is affecting my phone in the way I described? I don't think it would.
1. Yes
3. If an app requests to access resources like internet at regular intervals, android doesn't stop it. Greenify stops this from happening by disabling the app completely. Consider it on lines of disabled service.

I +1 on greenify!
Its a great app!
But don't hibernate apps such as Facebook,Gmail,Twitter, anything with push notifications. Since greenify "freezes" them until you open them manually, you won't receive any notifications. But nonetheless its a great app and battery saver

Greenify sounds great and I'll likely get it.
But none of this addresses the issue: My issue is not with the phone's efficiency. I know it would be fantastically efficient if it didn't permanently light up the screen every time I received a text. This wears out the screen too! THIS is the problem and it's a real big problem!
EDIT: "To prevent spam to the forums, new users must wait five minutes between posts" - Okay but why do I also have to wait 5 minutes to fix my typos? GRRRR!! Website design oversight, I think!

Yeah I checked that. it's always been set to 30 seconds. Thanks though.
To me it sounds like you dont have anything on your phone so why not do a factory reset? You can use SMS Backup to keep all your texts, and everything else is synced. If you dont want to factory reset, then I don't know what.
Id just root it and put a custom recovery such as TWRP and clear both caches.
