[Q] No tethering with Gingerbread ? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I think I have problem with tethering (usb or wifi) as my computer tells me I have internet but no page is actually charging. It looks like a DNS problem or something like that, I have only timeouts when loading pages.
I tried on various Revolution Gingerbread Roms and it has always been the case.
However when I switch on an old Sense Revolution nandroid backup or Cyanogen backup wifi and usb tethering seem to work.
Is it a gingerbread problem ? Is there any way to correct it ?
Thanks in advance.

I think you should try the Hotspot App. Our just try to extract it from the working rom. It is in /system/app WifiRouter.apk
(the size of mine is 409788)

So I'm obliged to use an app although the function is implemented in Android ? That's a bit weird

Noob here : App2SD & wifi tethering & tita.backup

Hi
I just want these 3 without losing sense
what should i do?
thx a lot for any help
Wifi tethering isn't working yet. You'll have to hold on for that.
For the other two, install Paul's default ROM - it's just rooted stock, so it'll be identical to what you had. Install Apps2SD and Titanium Backup on that.
I'm not a professor like our buddy above, but I can definitively say that Wireless Tether (downloaded from market) works like a charm.
Furthermore there are ROMs like AhmgskMod Sense Rom v1 (you'll find this rom here in the xda forum) that have it already built in...
Erriko, can you actually connect to it with another device, get an IP address, and surf web? As far as I'm aware, only ahmgsk supposedly has it working, and haven't seen much verification of that.
They actually just got it working, with an ugly hack.

[Q] WiFi Tether for Root Users

Quick question: Is anyone else having trouble with the WiFi Tether for Root Users and/or the built-in hotspot on Cyanogenmod 6.1 RC4? I've wiped, reflashed, fixed permissions and nothing seems to make it work. I know I'm missing something that's obvious to everyone else. BTW, both work fine on the stock rom with root & bacon bits.
I gotta be doing something stupid. Can someone help?
Thanks!
you'll get a better/faster response if you ask in the CM rom's thread.
cm6.4 includes a custom version of wifi tether therefore it causes problems with the wifi for root
Use Barnacle.

Wifi problem..

After upgrading to ARHD 5.1.4 i cant connect to my home network via wifi. In the office i have no problems. Reflashed radio, checked passwds, but i cant find a solution. Any ideas?
changed to LeeDroid 3.0.3 and the problem insists. Any ideas?
WiFi connection problems
Hi there,
Same here! (home: connection = OK, but no data will pass through; office: connection = OK and data fully functional).
Have been looking around a bit for WiFi problems and Gingerbread. Haven't come up with any solution so far, but the problem seems to be Android 2.3.3 and HTC twitters they are on it.
Which won't help so far...
Tried a patch too, but that didn't bring any solution neither...
BTW: they do say it has to do with WiFi dropping below -88dB. Well, I'm almost sitting on top of my WiFi Access point, so that can't be the problem neither.
Regards,
delete your SSID (or select "forget"), whichever option you have.
reboot the rooter.
Try again.
i did hard reset to my modem but no success. Is there a particular way to delete ssid?
I had similar problem when my SSID was on hidden.
Could that be the issue here?

Sorry to say your solution didn't do the trick for me.
It still bothers me why the signal and reception quality are super, connection is established but data won't flow
Regards
Same issue here, going to go back to 2.2.1 see if that makes any difference
well thats strange, any 2.2.1 froyo rom including stock and custom WiFi works perfectly, any 2.3.3 rom and my wifi refuses to process any data
any ideas guys?

[Q] Android 2.3.3 wifi compatability problems in custom roms

hi guys, go easy on me its my first post
love the website the guides have helped me to successfully downgrade, s-off and flash custom roms to my dhd
I searched for the answer to this question but couldnt find anything. Is there any plan for custom rom developers to fix the 2.3.3 rom wifi compatability problems with speedtouch modems, as this is the only reason i cant use 2.3.3 based roms? (a lot of people have this problem with the stock rom but it is also in leedroids new one, android rev. etc) Would like to ask this in the android dev section but i need 10 posts for that.
Thanks for the help you lot have already given me, and i love the video!
Steve
Hi, welcome and congrats on your first post.
What specifically is the problem with the wifi? Is it specific to a type of authorisation (WEP, WPA/2) issue or something else?
thanks
this is a link to a detailed description of this exact problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1063103.html
i really dont expect anyone to go through the hassle of reading this, so summarized it says that ever since the gingerbread 2.3.3 update the phone is capable of connecting to all modems, but cannot transfer data on certain ones (such as the speedtouch modems)
I found a good post on this in a german forum a couple of weeks ago but i cant find it now, (i'll keep looking) but it said the problem was that some modems transmit with n and some with b or something like that. and that the only answer was to wait (ages) for a stock rom update (2.3.4?) as 2.3.3 isn't compatible with these types of modems
i would have expected this had been solved in the custom roms though
this is a qoute from the link below
"It turns out the Be Box router which Be supplied, which is a THOMSON ST585v6, is not compatible but also other versions of THOMSON routers as well."
ptth://vvv.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc-desire-hd-troubleshooting/wifi-issue-with-gingerbread-update/ (change the ptth to http and vvv to www) i cant post outside links
Ok, just read through that thread. What model of Speedtouch router are you using?
One workaround is to use a static IP. Have you tried this? I can help you set this up if required.
HTC seem to blame this issue on Google, as an Android issue. Not sure about that as any ROM that uses Gingerbread would exhibit the same problem, which isn't the case.
modem is a Thompson Speedtouch ST585 v6
Thanks but i have already tried and the modem only works with dynamic IPs (tried to solve it with a static IP for ages with my dad but it didnt work xD)
This qoute from dioky on page 4 of the link below states (i'm pretty certain) the problem: (i clicked the thanks button for this answer)
"Hi there,
I have the same WiFi problems as all of you.
Furthermore I can confirm that changing ROM (ARHD or Leedroid) won't help, if you stay with Gingerbread versions, that is.
I found out that:
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) to SpeedTouch WiFi access point (b/g).
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) through D-Link DAP1360 .
* BUT: does flow (and connected fine off course) through Belkin G Plus MIMO access point (g)!
I have rechecked it by reflashing back to ARHD 3.7 returning to ARHD 5.1.7 and ARHD 5.1.4 and LeeDroiD 3.0.3.
Which in all, makes me conclude that there definitely is something on the software side concerning compatibility!
For now, I will return to ARHD 3.7 Android 2.2.1 until solution is found.
Regards,"

Does anybody know if the Rom devs.plan to solve this (or even know about this problem)?
any ideas peeps?? this is a major problem for me
You want to try giving a static IP another shot?
i'm pretty sure it wont work as i tried to solve the prob like this but whatever i did i couldnt get it to work. but i'll give it another shot. another idea would maybe be updating the modem drivers if there is such a thing?
What is your routers current firmware version? And is that a branded router?
i really have no idea. i'm a total noob with routers
can you tell me an easy way how i could find out?
Sure, are you using your PC to access the web at the minute?
If you install TeamViewer I could show you.
?????? What is that ?
Its a piece of software that will allow me to remotely control a computer.
I can confirm that I have this problem with 2.3.3 and my Thomson/SpeedTouch 585v6 (FW 6.1.4.3) too.
It seems to connect WiFi fine, even assigns an IP but nothing actually works.
Solution for Wifi problem 2.3.3
Hello!
I have the same problem on my DHD with 2.3.3
Before there is an permanent fix for this You could manually configure the IP adress in the phones Wifi and it works great.
You can not use the DHCP in the phone.

I should have mentioned that I actually have a HTC Desire (not HD). But the ROM is a 2.3.3. It actually assigns the IP via DHCP just fine.
I have already tried manually assigning the IP address (and other fields) but still no luck.
There are those who can connect with a manual IP and a few, even after assigning it manually, still can not connect.
i tried using a static IP but it doesnt work..tried for days now
sounds like i am one of the few it doesnt work for after assigning manually...
i am a total noob but i was wondering if it would be possible for a custom rom dev to take the wifi drivers from froyo and use them in a gingerbread based rom??
UPDATE
I called up my ISP requesting a newer firmware for the 585v6 router (although I know it is no longer supported). Anyway, without any hassle at all, they gave me the newer: TG585 v7 router with firmware 8.2.23.0 (pre-installed).
This connects without any problems to my 2.3.3 ROM (RCMix 2.0).

[Q] Wifi Tether Problems

Hi all. I've looked for weeks through hundreds of threads for a solution to my problem but haven't found a solution. My apologies if one exists.
I am running an odin-rooted EL29 stock rom. I have downloaded various versions of the Wifi Tether app but am running 3.1-beta11 right now. I can get my Win7 Pro laptop to see my phone's wifi but cannot successfully connect to the internet with it. The wifi icon in the system tray continues searching after I tell it to connect.
I've followed the many tutorials on how to do this but none of them work. Does anyone here have any solutions for me to try? Please, of course!
Okay, so I just noticed the sticky at the top of the list about Wifi and others for EL29. All of these fixes look like brand new ROMs, though. I would rather not wipe everything and start clean if I don't have to.
I too had many problems with WiFi and WiFi tether. I actually went to the WiFi Tether home page and dl'd every version there. I paintakingly install each until I found the only one that worked was version 2.0.7. Only problem with this version is that encryption doesn't work.
Also, and I presume you are with Sprint, keep in mind that most of the newer ROMS have the Sprint HotSpot app working fully including encryption and for free.
I tether all my wifi machines to either WiFi Wireless Tether or Sprints HotSpot.
Good luck,

IF Ive helped, HIT the Thanks button.....
Have you tried going into the settings and under change setup method change it from Auto to WEXT(adhoc)
I was having a similar issue and that seemed to work for me.

I don't think Beta 11 works. That was my experience. Beta 6 & 7 worked then I figured I should upgrade to the latest and tried 11 and it didn't work. Saw a few other people who also had problems with 11 and went back to either 6 or 7. I know for sure 6 & 7 work on Stock but haven't tested any other ROMs.
The Calkulin 2.8.1 Rom can be flashed without wiping your settings and data. Just wipe cache and Dalvic cache and flash the Rom. Make a Nandroid backup first of course. I have flashed this Rom over stock several times with no issues at all. The Rom has the Hotspot hack which lets you use the Sprint Hotspot software which works perfectly and Sprint has no idea that you are using it.
This is what worked for me on a stock rom, Odin rooted + CWM.
