Hey guys, just wondering if there are any tips on removing the clutter on the SD card between ROM flashes. There are so many files and data that android creates on there that I don't know what I should and shouldn't get rid of. Do most of you just format it before a flash or what? I just feel like keeping all those old SD files on there from prior ROMs isn't good.
Keep the files you want and delete the rest.
I delete all the files on the sd card pertaining to android between flashes that includes the following folders
data, android, lost.dir, .android_secure, .data, rosie_scroll, tmp.
Its safe to delete them and I find that i have less problems when doing so.

Hi All
Firstly, huge apologies if this has been answered already. I have searched a ton of threads and none really explain exactly what I need to know...
Secondly, I am in no way aware of how any coding or development works on the desire or any android device for that matter so my knowledge is only from what I have personally done to my device:
S-ON (dont have the balls to attempt this!)
Currently I am running RCMixHD ver 0.14. This ROM includes a script which (so I understand) activates the data2ext, and creates this within my ext partition. Now I have read a few threads and posts about possible corruption with this, and so I have a question?
Can I simply copy the entire contents of the SD card to my PC, and then in the event of the SD card becoming corrupt, copy it to a different SD card, pop it back in the phone and then carry on?
Also I am considering a bigger SD card than the 4gb one I have, could this method also be used to transfer everything onto the new SD card without wiping and losing every app and photo etc.
Apologies for the semi-noob post, but I want to be clear before I do any potential damage to my phone!
Thanks
Yes and Yes but i dont know if u need S-Off for data2sdext.
But switching to S-Off is not a real problem or really dangerous! Done this on many phones!

Once you have all your apps, clockworkmod recovery should backup all your ext partition. If you want an extra backup, boot in recovery and mount sdcard + ext, then do a tar of you ext partition and save it to you sdcard (something like cd /sd-ext tar czvf /sdcard/ext.tgz *)
Your ext partition will then be saved.
I recently backed up my sd card and noticed that there is just a hell of a lot of crap there I would love to get rid of as much as I can because I am sure my nearly filled 16gb card would benefit from several gigs of extra space.
Anyway, here is what want to do. Copy the folders involved with clockwork (or nandroid) bapckup. After all the important files are safely backed up, format the card and copy the backup files back to the phone. Then just do a simple restore and the SD card SHOULD be as pristine as possible with my apps restored. I am basing this purely on assumption, but it seems to make sense.
If I am going under the proper assumptions and this will work, are there any pitfalls I should be ready for? What folders am I looking for? Just the clockwork folder? Do I need to get any of the system folders like .android-secure or any of those important looking ones?
Thanks for the help.

I have done the exact thing several times when partitioning my SD card. Should work fine.
Well, I'd dump CWM for Amon Ra, first, then copy your files to your computer, like you said.
Then use the format option in Settings to format your card, reboot, and you'll have just the needed files on there.
Then copy back the stuff you know you need.
Hi All,
I want to have a clear out of my sd card as it seems to have alot of data on it which isnt any of my media (music, pics, vids etc.) I do try out loads of apps and games so it could be filled with old useless files.
I was just wondering if there are any files/folders on there which i should definately back up to restore after a format? For instance what folder are all the titanium backup files? I will obviously be backing up all of my own media files.
Could someone also let me know which format to use when re formatting a sd card? Im using Virtuous Unity (latest) if that makes any difference.
Also is there any special procedure to follow when doing a format or is it simply back up files/folders you want to keep, format sd card, restore backed up files/folders?
Thanks in advance!

I did it like that,,, copy and paste folders to your HDD and back.
Format of the SD Card should alway be FAT32 ... dont know really much about the folders, but you may check if some old apps, that are not in use created folders (like call recorder creates that "voix" folder, etc)

Thanks again!
Greetings everyone,
After almost a year of using xperia arc and plenty of cleanups with SEUS I never formated my SD Card. I have a 16GB class 6 one which is half full (Mostly with music, pictures and videos) and yet its full of folders from Apps i used in the past.
The question is; If i delete everything from sd card via computer, then re-mount the card will the needed folders be replaced? Also I have moved apps to sd which i still use, will the folders be replaced aswell?
and last; I already copied all the files i need to my computer, if I will re-download an app and paste the folder back there, will I have the saves back?

a bit difficult, try to delete the unused folders instead
but if you do the right backup of the needed data, yes the data will be there.
and the deleted folders created by system should be recreated

You must make sure that you format your SD card with FAT32 file system. If you are using Windows OS then there is no need to get worried.Just go ahead with the normal procedure.
Once you format, all the folders and files will be deleted and when you mount it in your phone, the necessary files and folders will be created on its own. These necessary files do not belong to the applications you moved to SD card and it means that you must create a back up of your apps before you format your card,in order to use the apps even if you format your sd card.
I would suggest "Titanium Backup" app to back-up your apps. And when you are done with the back up, make sure that you copy the folder named "TitaniumBackup" from your sd card to your PC/Notebook and then format your card.

Thank you Guys For your help
I understand that my Galaxy Nexus does not actually have an SD Card, but an SD card folder, right? So for best performance I can move some files, like most downloaded apps, to the SD Card folder. Maybe data files like eBooks, right? Then I get lost. I have downloaded a couple of apps that are supposed to help me move things to the SD Card, but I don't quite get how to move them. Some SD Card apps show a list of apps that can be moved, but there does not seem to be a place to tell it, 'OK, do it.' I know I can attach to my PC/USB and see the file folders, but it seems like just drag & drop would lead to confusing my phone's operating system.
Maybe someone can recommend an app that is simple enough for me to understand.
Galaxy Nexus (Sprint) unlocked and rooted to use SuperUser. Running JB 4.1.1 stock from the recent update. Baseband ver: L700.05 V.FH05 / L700.FH05, Kernel ver 3.0.31-00006-gea59422 Build JRO03U.L700FH06 (BTW, I am trying to document the pertinent information about ROM & build and so forth to use when I ask for help from developers. Can someone tell me what is important for you to see?)

first off moving apps to the sd card wouldn't improve performance, so there wouldn't be a need to do such a thing. The reason the sd card is a partition instead of an actual removable card is because that way people wouldn't need to move apps to the sd card. The memory for internal vs sd card will be automatically adjusted as needed. But if you want to move some files from one part of your phone to the sdcard, so then you can simply drag and drop on your pc or use any file manager app like astro or root explorer if you need something from say the data partition.
So, just forget about it...

So then, I should just leave it alone and not worry about it unless I develop a problem down the road, right? I guess Google knew there would be people like me.

pretty much, glad i could help out
Moving files won't do anything, it's all the same, just a different folder called "SDcard" to keep compatibility with apps that are looking for an SDcard.
Ahh, now it makes sense. If an app was designed to take advantage of an SD Card, then it is still compatible with Nexus. Thanks, I get it now.
