[Q] cracked AMOLED screen, how to check the digitizer? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have cracked screen in my NEW (!) desire .
There is only a small hairline crack visible in the glass underneath the outer cover of the phone (i assume it's the screen - as seen on the famous tj's tear-down photostory ). The outer glass is completely intact (how the F#$% did that happen?).
When the phone is on the screen is all green, yellow - like a leaked lcd.
So here goes my question: how do i check/know if the digitizer is fine? Or will i only know it after i replace the AMOLED screen?

No expert here, but as far as I know digitizer has to do with the touchscreen, so I guess that if your touchscreen works(font mean the display) the digitizer works too...
Sent from my HTC Desire

Heh,
that is exactly the problem that i don't know if it works. Phone boots normaly, but i can't see anything on the display so i can't see if the digitizer works the straight-forward way.
I think the only way to check that would be to connect the phone to the computer somehow and see some "telemetry" - i was hoping for a suggestion in this area

You can try to use adb logcat boot up your phone and try to push various buttons (blindly ) if logcat shows interactions, digitizer should be fine.

i tried to connect to logcat but it's impossible if the "usb debugging" feature is disable in the phone.
Nevertheless i replaced the display and the phone works perfectly now
(note to self: do not boulder with your desire in your pocket )

Glass broken

Hello.
Today my Desire slipped off the cover, and fell onto concrete floor.
Result - Cracked screen, scratches on the front panel. The back panel is intact.
Touchscreen seems to be working fine in every part of the display, and AMOLED itself seems to be OK - cant see any damage through the broken glass.
I guess that it's the protective glass broken, not the screen itself?
The main impact was on the corner.
So a question - could somebody suggest, where could I buy front panel replacement, with the protective glass?
I would like to hear any suggestions.
Thanks.
Search ebay for "Digitizer HTC Desire"

You mean, that it's not the protective screen, but the digitizer?
Well, I'm no expert on this...
But since the Desire has a capacitive touchscreen panel, I assumed this must be the top layer....
Okay, today i've recieved my new toucscreen.
Installed, and everything seems to work fine, but.
It is kinda bugged - sometimes it changes screens spontaneously, in some places it dont respond on my touch.
I dont know what to do now, any suggestions?

Bought new Defy Touch Screen Digitalizer but...

I bought a new oem touch screen digitizer from dealextreme to replace my old shattered one but it is not recognizing inputs, except when I try to pull down the notification bar with phone locked (CM10 Jelly Bean - Quarkx).
This digitizer comes with a film on both sides of the glass and I removed both. I know that removing the outer film doesn't acctualy intefere but, does removing the inner film do since it is close to the LCD screen?
Edit: I've followed the instrunctions from here: http://www.repairsuniverse.com/motorola-defy-screen-repair-take-apart-guide.html

It is not the problem, I turned the phone on with mother board, LCD screen and touch screen digitizer all spread (cables connected of course) and it's still not working. I think my new touch screen digitizer is broken

I bought my digitizer from repairs universe. I also took off both films because the inner one had an air bubble. I broke mine because my proximity sensor doesn't work and i tried to remove a bit of the thick plastic which was covering the opening. now the very top right corner of the screen doesn't register any touches. I'm not sure what's wrong with yours but perhaps try a different rom. Or try disconnecting it again and put it back.

I tried both CM9 and CM10 and none is working, and I tried disconnecting and reconnecting countless times with no luck. I'll try to send it to customer service to fix it. Hope it is not too expensive.
Thanks!
Taking advantage of this topic, is there any way to configure 'automatically answer calls' without using the touch? CM7.1-11.

Desire disassemble now Display won't work

Hello,
I disassemble my Desire to replace the cover of it. The AMOLED display and the touch screen worked with no problems. I disassemble every part but had some problems by removing the touch screen so it was broken in one corner. I ignored it, replaced the cover, put all back together and attached connectors for display, keyboard and touchscreen. After that I start the phone but now I get only a black screen. I see nothing on the display but my phone starts because I feel the vibration and the lights of the buttons are glowing.
So, is there any option to fix that or is it now completly broken? I'm really sad because it worked with no problems a few hours ago and because of this cover replacement I have no video screen now.
On Ebay I can get a new AMOLED Display for 40$ (30-40€). Should I try this or is maybe the main PCB broken? The broken glass of the touch screen can not cause this problem, wouldn't it?
Greets,
Burak

If touch is working, digitizer is good. If not, it's broken. As far as I know, there are basically three layers in Samsung phones, (I think it will be the same for others)
1. Protective glass (as its name protective)
2. Digitizer ( detect touch)
3. Amoled display (produce color)
Hit thanks if this help you

How easy is it for the screen to die?

So I cracked the screen on my nexus I9250T (very small crack on glass only) and the screen doesn't turn on any more. Is it possible to kill the display that easily? I've checked connectors on the board itself and it all seems fine. Also if I do need to replace the screen is there any specific type that I should buy for an Australian phone?
Cheers!
I think you was unlucky. Often even with big crack (on every phone) the screen turns on anyway. You can have damaged an important part of the screen (not only the external glass) and because of this it doesn't turn on anymore.
