I just tethered to my roomates windows machine which has XP on it, just to test for you. I'm on decks 1.2y. I was first on tiamat 4.0.5 and wired usb tethering didn't work. I switched to SZ 2.2.1 and it started working fine. Have you tried using a different kernel? Are you sure your USB cable is good? Did the drivers install properly on the computer? (when I checked USB tethering for the first time, a little box popped up by the notification tray that said 'installing drivers', then said 'drivers installed successfully'. Did you get this?) Have you tried pdaNet or EasyTether just for the fun of it, to see if either of those apps work?
If you want wired tether just use pdanet its free in the market or the other free wired tether app with the big phone icon I forgot the name.

All you need is the proper drivers installed on your comp. The pdanet drivers should work
Then the native tethering should work

Hi everyone I have been reading and so far I guess the only thing that works for tethering is pda net...
Well I have a dell laptop and I plugged my phone into it... how do I get it to work?

You need to download and install the pdanet app on your laptop. Do a Google search. It should be easy to find. There are different versions depending what OS you are running.

Easy Tether also works. I have yet to try PDA Net even though I have it installed.

Nice. Is easy tether working good?

Pdanet also installs the adb drivers necessary for the g2 so you can get screen caps thru the dalvik debug monitor if you have the sdk

I have pdanet and easy tether. There both pretty simple and easy to use. Pda installs the drivers but easy tether costs less. Easy tether was the only one that recognized the adb on my phone to computer and actually allowed me to command prompt into my phone so I can root it. So they are both good id say

I just got my Inc 2. GB 2.3.3. S-OFF'd and rooted.
I loaded up android-wired-tether (its what i used on my eris) and it wont work. WinXP sits and attempts to acquire IP for quite a while, eventually gets an IP but then cannot connect to the internet.
Anyone else have success with this app? or is there another USB tether app out there that is good?
is there a fix?
PdaNet is a good wired app. Or, you could try WiFi tether, excellent wirelesstether app. You'll have to Google it, its not available in the market

^^ what he said.
Do you have HTC sync installed ? I wanna say you have to have that installed on your computer for wired tether because it has drivers you need. Not 100% sure but its worth a try if you don't have it installed.
some dude hacked/fixed the wired tether app
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/issues/detail?id=47#c1
so it works now. just a bummer the maintainers aren't maintaining it.
I've tried installing two different wireless tethers and neither one wants to work. I'm rooted with stock rom. Any ideas/suggestions?

You sure its not working?? Its a adhoc connection and most tablets wont pick that up. My desktop sometimes wont either but to fix that i have to switch my wifi on the desktop off and on then it sees the connection

which rom are you using? i had that problem before when i was trying wifi tether hack apps but i download a rom that actually had the hotspot hack which allow to use the sprint hotspot and that worked like a charm.
i also suggest you to try using ( Hotspot hack ) posting on the development section.
i hope that helped
Thanks guys. I'm using stock rom. When I had my evo, it worked like a charm.

I am having the same kind of problem; wifi tether does not work. I was on rooted stock rom, then Calkulin 1.5a. On the client side, I tried Ubuntu 11.10, Window XP, both detected the ad-hoc device, but just could not establish connection. I am using the hotspot hack, which work without issue.
I'm on add ROM with sprint hot spot and it works perfectly.

" Infrastructure mode, unlike ad-hoc mode, allows multiple devices and devices that don't support ad-hoc mode to connect to the Wi-Fi access point spawned by the app, so it's definitely something we want. I've also asked about getting infrastructure mode on the*Epic Touch 4G, which uses a newer Broadcom chipset, to which Harald replied "we will see." Fingers crossed here."

I use wireless tether from the market and works great. I know on a past phone I had to create a folder on my SD card called android.tether with a bin file in it. I don't know if that is why mine works or not.

I use a USB tether app called Easytether. It's my sole means of internet for my computer and it isn't working with CM. Can anybody help me get this working or explain why it won't work? I tried checking Tethering in the pull down menu but it stays off. Went in to settings to try to check it, still a no go. Uninstalled Easytether thinking maybe then I'd be able to enable tethering, no go. Reinstalled Easytether, tried it again, still no good. I don't have a wireless card for my desktop, so I really need this working.
This app worked flawlessly on stock and on non-AOSP ROMs.
its most likely because asop has different drivers then the stock roms so it prob doesnt support those drivers yet. try going on the irc and see if they might be able to do anything about it.
I haven't used that particular app, or CM on this phone, so I can't offer any ideas as to why it's not working for you. I would recommend WiFi Tether for Root Users from the Play Store. I've never had a problem with it...

I don't have a wireless card. This app ran me a one time fee of $10 as well, so I'd like to get it working again haha.
So you need to tether via usb. Gotcha. I had that working a while back, lemme check a few things out & I'll let you know if I figure out a working solution.

I've been talking with Shelnutt2 and Artlan, they're trying to get it resolved. The built in tethering for CM 10.1 isn't working on the LS970 currently either. I'm sure they'll have it resolved shortly.
PDANet seems to be working for me via usb, so you could always try that out. No guarantees it will work on Cm (I'm running lifeless), but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Easytether worked for me on Lifeless as well, but we're going from stock based ROMs to AOSP. I'm still having issues getting this running. Going to check in IRC and see if the Devs can help. Built in tethering on CM also isn't working for me.
I've tried a couple of tutorials, but without luck...
Does anybody was successful in seting up USB reverse tethering on Linux (I'm using Mint 15)? I've got adb/fastbot drivers, but it won't work

It's live USB... I don't have space for Wine... btw, I was trying playing with Wine in the past, but without luck... and I'm pretty sure that reverse tethering net will be slower with emulated profram
