CRT animation Fix for lightning ROM - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hi all,
if you are using lightning ROM, you may have noticed that the CRT effect is not as it should be.
To get it working perfectly (as on the nexus s), I share with you this small method.
I have got it working on mine but I'm not responsible if you get any issue or brick your phone.
-You need Root explorer that you can download from the market.
-Download the framwork-res apk attached to this post and copy it to the SD card (internal or external, no difference).
Open root explorer and go to: /system/framework
Search for framework-res.apk and copy it to SD card (you will need it after)
Now, you need the framework-res.apk that you've downloaded before.
copy it and paste it to /system/framework.
At this stage you will get Force close of settings or something like that..don't worry and reboot the phone.
Open root explorer again and copy the first framwork-res.apk that you have saved to sd card and paste it again to: /system/framework
you will perhaps get some FC for the 2nd time but no problem.
Voilà...job done
Reboot and enjoy the original CRT animation

Mine looks worst now. Its got this checkered thing happening during the screen-off process.
The only thing I dislike about the current CRT-animation is that it is too fast. It should be a bit slower.

Could you please tell us, what you have changed inside the framework-res.apk? It would be really helpful for Themers and Rom Developers.

Hi,
It's strange, if you've done as mentionned in my post, you get the real thing as on nexus S.
Did you rebooted your phone after the last replacement of framework-res?

Hi,
Will you believe me?..I haven't changed anything inside the framework-res
I have downloaded as is from hotfile (with the original gingerbread keyborad)
First I just wanted to change the battery icone as I like the original gingerbread one, but finally it fixed the CRT animation
I'm not a developer, then can't explain you what are the exact changes that have been done on it.
I just shared my little experience as I know that the CRT animation on litening rom is annoying especially for a person who had a nexus S like me.
And by the way, great thanks for litepro for his great rom.

Yeah, I did everything in the OP. I'm on Lite'ning 1.4. I'll try again later.
Could you post a video of what the new CRT animation would look like in contrast the current one?

i'm using lite'ning 1.4 too.
I have just posted a video on youtube and the link is in the 1st post.
Normally you get the original CRT animation, I had a nexus S and I know what i'm talking about.

I don't think it has anything to do with your framework-res.apk that it works for you now. For some people the CRT-Animation just works sometimes. Someone discovered that if you set the Screen Density with LCD Density Changer you get a working CRT Animation until you long-press the Power Button.

it works perfectly, without changing screen density or any thing.

The problem, assuming it's the same on Lightning Rom as it is on VillainRom, is that it's hit and miss as to whether it occurs. Mine shows the corruption one minute then looks fine the next.

problem for me : after a new reboot the new CRT effect has disappeared...

I have it since 3 days and it works great..it doesn't show corruption at all.

Doesn't work for me, but in my opinion it can't work since nothing is changed if I put back the original framework.res

it worked for me

The corruption occurs whenever I play the game X Construction. it always looks corrupted afterwards. a reboot is needed to get it back to normal. if I don't play that game, it never gets corrupted.

replaced framework with yours, stuck in a boot loop ! thanx dude

could someone port that to haykuro's 6.0?
Is there any way someone can make a 6.0r1 Theme Template? I tried it but I got an error flashing it, btw the Aero Icons r the best

Yes, I've had the exact same problem, but I'm not sure exactly what's causing it. I had a base 6.0r1 with a couple of apps installed and the drawer.apk fix, and then attempted to put a themed 601 on top of it. I'm not sure if this is the culprit, but I'm staying away from theming this build for now.
I solved it by doing a factory data reset in the OS, turned off, booted into recovery, did another wipe (doubt this was necessary but I did it anyway), rebooted back into recovery, and installed the base 6.0r1.

Now that you brought this issue up, I just tried making a call for the first time since flashing this theme with a wipe and I am getting com.android.phone force close. Something is wrong with this port. A little research is needed.

The only things I did to the stock 6.0r1 build, other install Linda and Better Terminal, was install the fixed Launcher.apk and swapped out the audio files for the v2 louder ones.
Another thing I've noticed when using the 6.0r1 themed builds, is that there seems to be something strange going on with the boot screens. I see the HTC logo, then the white/blue Magic screen, then it goes to the sim lock page. after I unlock my sim, it goes back to the HTC screen, then an all black screen with some kind of logo on it . At first i thought it was a desktop wallpaper, but then the real wallpaper kicks in, and it's not in the wallpaper gallery. It almost looks like a curvy, glossy "i". I always ignored it
On second thought, my problems might have been from the other theme.
I downloaded this aero one, but when I installed it, I didn't see the aero notification bar. I had the white one with the new battery icons. I probably flashed the wrong update.zip. Chalk that one up to user error on my part.
I know for sure, the first time I got the "unable to make calls" issue, I was using the new battery icons, white notification bar, new data connection themed port from the other thread
Nabzilla, if you have time or another phone, try installing that one again and see what happens. I just looked in that thread, and I didn't see anyone else bring this up. I'm stumped.
BTW, I'd try again, but I'm about to go out for the night and I need a stable build that makes calls. Even though a night without the gf "checking up" on me doesn't sound half bad.
Update: Did a wipe and re-flashed the original 6.01 Haykuro rom; then relashed the aero 6.01 theme without a wipe this time. The phone is working perfectly now. Non wipe update seams to be the answer Very happy with this theme, thanx again for porting this!

[Q] Changing framework-res

I'm familiar with changing the icons/files in framework-res on the phones, I assume the process would be the same on the Archos Gen 8s. I understand we don't have a nandroid backup to load if we screw it up but messing with the SDE version of Android somewhat alleviates that fear.
Am I right that it should be the same?
Yes.
Just keep in mind that you need to use a version like UrukDroid that gives you writeAccess to /system, because SDE only doesn't work.
Thanks. I'm using Uruk 0.4.1, so I'm ready to get to work.
This is mostly to fix the stupid Talk notification icon (am I the only one that has two white pixels on top of the talk bubble?) but I know from past experience it will soon progress to sick days, missed family events, and late night arguments with my wife as I desperately attempt to tweak just one more thing to get rid of the urge. . .
Yes its time for some themes...stock looks ugly when compared to my epic 4g

Thanks for the link but don't think this will really help as it is. The script tries to mount the /system folder on the internal nand, which won't work for us (well, not using the UrukDroid root, anyway). Should be able to tweak the script though.
Have tried replacing the framework.apk manually with an edited one, and set the correct permissions (on UrukDroid 0.4.2), but all I get is a black screen after the second Archos splash screen. Have done it the same way I did on my Desire, by editing the contents of framework-res.apk, rather than unpacking and repacking, but I guess there may be a signing issue here. I forget how much of the hard work Clockwork recovery does for you! Also, it may require edited the services.jar, but I'm not sure how to do that, or what needs editing. So far, all I did was try to change icons etc.

[ROM][3/1/2011] LiquidM_Villain (v1.1)

Hi at long last release time is upon us. I bring to you the Acer Liquid Metal Rom port, with the joint effort of Me,HomerSP(Team Villain) and with testing and collaboration by TheDeadCpu. Now what can i tell you about the rom, is it fast? of course it is, is the battery life good? hard to tell im always on 2g(At&t) Does it all work? No of course not. now with that said lets get on to what does not work.
You NEED CWM3.0, not the Beta Version of CWM 3.0 that only works on gingerbread, if you have that recovery and you flash my rom it will get stuck in the white htc logo, so please download the CWM recovery with rom manager, or make sure its not the Beta version.

That I am doing. Though I have noticed that sometimes "store" in WinRar compresses by just a few bytes. I made one that was completely not compressed (byte match for stored size versus on drive size). Still not working, so I've ruled that out as being the issue.
I'm attaching a version created by the tool in the link above. It still doesn't work. I have no clue why... still looking for hints.

That looks like it'd be a cool animation. I'll mess with it later when I get home. But at first glance comparing it to other animations I have that work, they are either greyscale or RGB jpgs @ 72dpi. Yours are indexed pngs @ 300dpi. That link says png should be ok, but it says to use RGB. Maybe you could try that next.
Here you go. I converted the images to 72dpi RGB jpgs. I'll still probably try again leaving them as 72dpi RGB pngs, but these animations work now.
I included your original 30fps version, but also slowed it down a bit. I think the 12fps looks good, but unless you have just wiped your dalvik cache, you might not have enough time to see very many blinks. The 21fps version isn't bad, but I think it's still a bit too fast. Tweak the speed to your preference.
These are not flashable, btw, so just copy over with root explorer or whatever.
Has to be renamed sanim.zip to work in GB.

True, I guess I assumed he was using a kernel with the symlink to bootanimation.zip since his phone was actually trying to use the original file. Thanks for the reminder to anyone else trying to get this to work.

I've tried this myself many times to no evail. I get boot animations from a rom that i like and try to put the boot ani in a diff rom and it never works. i'm never able to get the files into the other zip. I can't wait till i figure out how to completely customize roms to exactly what i want! i'm learning a little more day by day. this thread has helped me a little and will now be my reference if i run into this problem once i finally make my own boot ani. Thanks guys!

CTOS Bootup Animation

Hello all!
I claim no fame to this bootup animation. It's a CTOS Bootup from the game WatchDogs. I got the main animation zip from This XDA page in the G3 Forums. All I did was convert it to .qmg format so I can use it on my Note 4. it works perfectly on my phone using DynamicKat ROM.
Extract the zip and place the two files into /system/media and change permissions to rw-r-r- .
EDIT:For those implementing the sounds, it goes into /system/media/audio/ui
As always I recommend changing the original files to *.qmg.bak (* is the like files you are copying over) in case the world explodes, your GF dumps you, or the phone simply doesn't like being touched.
P.S. I shouldn't have to remind you, but just in case... Warranty is voided, do at your own risk, etc etc.

Looks pretty cool. I like the others posted on the op too. Is it difficult converting them? Thanks for this.

It's not that difficult, but depending on the size of the bootupanimation.zip and number of images, it can take a while to convert. I followed this guide and did it in a few minutes. Warning though, if you are doing this yourself the limit to this program is 255 images. The samsung converter seems to auto adjust the bootup size to the images used. Be sure to follow the guide to a 'T' and you'll be fine.
If you want me to I can do a few conversions or help you with some steps. Just let me know.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out and I'll ask if I got any questions
Thanks works great on my side

That's a good idea, I've never been much for sounds with my bootup. I can look into how to make that happen though.

Wouldn't you know it, MAJOR blonde moment. That site I linked includes the bootup sounds. Updated OP with the zip to extract it and copy it over.
Lol ? thank u btw
Well, I'm having issues with the sound on bootup. I changed permissions and all, made sure the sound work while in the phone, and nothing during bootup. Could be the ROM I'm on. Using DynamicKat. I'm mostly deaf though so it might simply be a quiet sound. Lemme know what's up.

The original bootanimation.zip had 265 images, I had to delete a few in order to get the program to render the animation. It's limit is 255. That's why the sound is a little off for you. In the ROM I'm using, there was no PowerOn.ogg. had to look at another ROM to see where the bootup sound was located. It's where it should be but I hear no sounds. No big deal for me, glad it works for you though.
I c, my sound is on system-media-sound-ui hopefully that could help
Works great man. Liked this game and the boot animation is really cool
