Hi folks,
I have been struggling with flashing back my desire to a stock ROM. I want to start from scratch by flashing the stock RUU because I cant move from this stage to customize my phone.
Software information :
Android
2.2
Baseband ver.
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version
2.6.32.15-g2633d94
Build number
2.33.161.2 CL284358 release keys
Softw. No
2.33.161.2
HBOOT 0.93.0001
S-ON
I've tried these RUUs to get it back:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed
but every time I get ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
Is it necessary to go trough this guideline before flashing RUU? ---> [HOW-TO] downgrade HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 again
Do I have Hboot 0.93 instead of 0.92?
Can somebody help me with this please?
Root your phone with unrevoked.
Because your phone is branded (2.33.161.2 is Vodafone if I'm not mistaken) you will need goldcard too if you want to flash unbranded 2.29.405.5 rom.
I tried to use unrevoked guideline but it says to go to HBOOT menu and there to the 'HBOOT USB', but this I don't have.
My HBOOT menu:
Fastboot
Recovery
Clear Storage
Simlock
"On EVO 4G, you will have to select HBOOT USB at that menu by pressing volume down four times, then power. Wait until the screen flashes through an “SD Checking” message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore keypresses."
Not relevent in our case...
Unfortunately it couldn't pass trough. unrevoked says "failed to get root. is your software too new?" - any hint please?
+ is the goldcard inevitable only for RUUs or also for flashing custom ROMs if I am branded?
You need to use unrEVOked 3.21 - but if you wanna debrand then just use a gold card to flash 2.29.405.5
if you want update, you can use goldcard,if you want downgrade, give me your email add, I can give you a software to do that

A nice tool how to easily create goldcard:

I have a branded (UK) Vodafone Desire that I loaded a stock Froyo ROM onto, now I need to get back to the branded Vodafone image (so I can return it for repair)
I have been trying to do this with the correct (Vodafone UK) RUU listed on thread 695667, but I keep getting a ERROR 140 : BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR.
I'm guessing this was because the HBOOT was 0.93, so I then successfully downgraded to Android 2.1 taking HBOOT back from 0.93 to 0.83 using the details in thread 768256.
My HBOOT is now 0.83 but the RUU still fails - same ERROR 140 : BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR.
So, is there a way to downgrade my HBOOT to 0.8 again (hoping that the RUU will work correctly with that version) ??
Or is there a way to extract the ROM image from the RUU exe and apply it using another method. ??
Thanks .. Ken
The problem is not HBOOT. Run the downgrade utility again, but -don't- install the downgrade in the bootloader (as described in the post), just select no, and then you can install the Vodafone RUU.
That worked a treat - thanks teppic74 !!
I have this strange problem.
I did the s-off using the alpharev. Once that was done, I experienced random reboots and phone lockups.
So, I decided to revert back and used the 2.29.405.2 ruu to get back to stock htc image.
Now, I am unable to root my desire using un-revoked. The phone freezes after doing the hboot and pre-boot sequence. I tried downgrading my hboot and I continue to experience the same problem.
Is there a way to get the phone to factory conditions ? I use a MAC. Can I use the RUU exe instead of the PB99IMG.zip ?
Has anyone faced a similar problem before ?
Any leads/pointers would be appreciated.
And yes, I am not a newbie and can find me way out through the adb forests !
Thanks
Shyam
bootloader should not change things about rooting.
have u checked hboot what does it tell now?
Thread moved to Q&A.
0.93.0001 S-ON is the hboot version that I get.
RUUs are Windows applications. You could just get the 2.29.405.5 PB99IMG and flash that to go back to the latest stock ROM
I am unable to root the stock 2.29.405.2 using unrevoked too !! The phone freezes after doing the pre-boot sequence.
Shyam
Are you using the current version of unrevoked or just some old version you found on your harddisk? Older versions could not root froyo based roms.
€: Perhaps they also patched something in 2.29.405.2 that prevents this rooting method.
I've had no issues with 2.29.405.2 using unrEVOked 3.22 - not tried since going back to 2.29.405.5
HTC bravo- t.mo uk
hboot 0.93.001
1. phone recovery corrupted[not amon ra or clockwork mod]
2. since hboot 0.93 older stock ruu wont work[1.15 and 1.21 dont work tried both]need a rom with a newer hboot
3. tried to rip .zip and renamed as pb99img but still didnt work. it wont update as it is an older version
4. does not boot into rom, stops at htc logo
5. no goldcard.
6. no HTC service centre, this country [freakin doesnt service outside home devices]
Is there any possible solution to recover the phone and make it functional?
Download RUU and create a Goldcard.
this ruu will not work because it is an older version. I require hboot 0.93 or higher. also cant create a goldcard as revskills has stopped making gold cards from cid..
Any other solution?
That MoDaCo tool works fine, and just get a stock WWE RUU such as this:
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
will surely try out and post back in some time
tried creating a goldcard with another device. got the cid , created goldcard image but get an error when patching.
"obj ref is not an obj" something like that. and it doesnt patch. any idea why is this happening. antivirus is disabled and htc sync is installed
ok so now i have a goldcard. used a different card-patched and successful. so now i tried to load pb99img.zip and it says
"CID incorrect"
update fail...what did i do wrong
oh man what the **** is their problem.
my desire is tmo uk spec..: but currently i have hboot 0.93 htc wwe 2.29 on it..corrupted and ****ed.
so i created goldcard and tried with wwe 2.29 again but it says cid error.
tried with tmo uk 1.21[latest] and it says bootloader error.
somebody please help me out here.
any help on this guys?
Debranded my handset with a stock HTC ROM, and now instead of getting OTA updates earlier I get them later. The check for update box does absolutely nothing.
Can anyone help me ascertain why? Running 2.2.1 build 1.72.405.3
Or at least help me update.
Thanks,
Jake
How did you debrand? I also debranded my phone (was on T-mobile) by using a goldcard and using that to install a stock ROM but that wasn't enough. You'll need to change your phone's CID (an ID that determines which ROMs you can install - stock, Vodafone, T-Mobile etc), or SuperCID (install any ROM).
In order to do that, you will probably need to downgrade your ROM. Simply follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
After the downgrade, follow these steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
The author's Easy Radio Tool allows you to do various things (S-OFF, SimUnlock, SuperCID). The only thing you need to do to get the OTA is to perform the last command in the list on the application (Stock CID), although of course you can do all the other stuff as well.
I just simply did the Stock CID and immediately afterward could get the update notification. My previously T-Mobile Desire HD is now running the shiny new 2.3 update nicely.
How do I check whether I have SuperCID, as I followed this tutorial here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857444
So I *should* have it.
I debranded by following the above tutorial and installing a stock ROM which I downloaded from here.
According to this post,
Checking the device state:
- Go to the bootloader (turn fastboot off, turn off phone, hold vol- and power)
- If it says ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF in the first line, your device is Radio S-OFF
- If it says ACE PVT ENG S-OFF, you have ENG S-OFF, go to System info
- If system info CID is 11111111, your device is SuperCID
- And if you can verify either Radio S-OFF or SuperCID (and you did both), it worked fine and you have both of them
- You can check your original CID by going to radio tool folder with cmd and typing: "adb shell getprop ro.cid"
Click to collapse
Although SuperCID allows you to install RUUs from anywhere, I wonder if it would also prevent you from getting the OTA update. It's possible that, when you preform a check, the phone sends your CID to HTC's servers which see if your CID has an update, and a CID of 11111111 will never have. If all else fails, try setting your CID to the stock HTC one rather than SuperCID.
Ah I don't have ENG S-OFF, and when I go into FASTBOOT and select BOOTLOADER it returns me to the 'main menu', followed by a short period where everything is non responsive and a brief message flashed in green about a few files. Is this normal when attempting to access the BOOTLOADER menu with ENG S-OFF?
Yes that's normal. I believe the delay is the bootloader scanning the SD card for a firmware file.
So I can't check my SID?
To check it I have to get ENG S-OFF, and to get ENG S-OFF I have to permroot my phone, for which I have to flash back to a 1.32 build...
Also, if I flash back to 1.32 to permroot and S-OFF etc, and *then* I finally update OTA to the latest will that not remove my permroot and S-OFF like it did with the 1.72 OTA update? Would I have to install a full RUU rather than update? But then surely I can never update...
This confuses me.
If you update using the OTA, you will lose your root but you won't lose your S-OFF as far as I'm aware. According to the instructions on the One click Radio S-OFF tool, in order to revert back to stock you have to use the tool again to S-ON, which implies that S-OFF is retained between firmware updates.
So, if you permroot (downgrading to 1.32 if needs be) and then use the Radio S-OFF tool to set your CID to stock you should be able to get the OTA update and get future ones too.
*Edit* just looking at the instructions for the One Click tool, it looks like you can do a temproot if you just want to set the CID to stock.
Every time I run visionary and try to temproot it gets stuck on the plain black screen after the "attempting to temproot now". Have to press the home key (and wait) to back out of the app, any successive launches just take me straight back there.
Are you sure you've downgraded and running the 1.32.405.6 ROM? Have you got USB debugging enabled?

Hi,
This is how you downgrade a Desire/Bravo with the HBOOT 1.02.0001 already installed, - this method is appropriate for people who need to downgrade the HBOOT for unlock purposes. I struggled for ages on this and once I found the method thought i'd post it around the internet as I couldn't find this info anywhere.
-Summary of steps-
1)Turn S-Off + Update HBOOT
2)Downgrade HBOOT to 0.93.0001 (Turns S-ON)
I have personally tested this and it worked perfectly without any problems. However flashing anything to your phone is done at your own risk, & I accept no responsability for your device.
--Step 1--
Download and run the Revolutionary tool here http://revolutionary.io/ to turn S-Off - Follow the steps on their website for how to do this if you get stuck.
Once you have run the Revolutionary tool, when it asks if you want to install the Clockworkmod recovery press no.
You will now have an S-Off phone running HBOOT 6.93.1002
--Step 2--
Format a microSD card, download the following zip file and save it to your memory card.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/dyyn35zm07x2x7a/PB99IMG.zip LINK UPDATED 2 JAN 2013
You should now have a single file on your memory card named PB99IMG.zip
--Step 3--
Put the microSD card back in your phone and hold 'VOL+DOWN + ACTION' and press the power button to get to the HBOOT menu. Wait around 10 seconds (give or take) and the phone will detect the update and ask you to install it, Select yes to install then reboot your phone back into the HBOOT menu.
You will now have an S-On phone with the 0.93.0001 HBOOT
--Step4-- IF THIS STEP APPLIES TO YOU FOR UNLOCKING
Unlock with XTC-Clip as you normally would - Creating goldcard with 0.93.X001 HBOOT.
Your phone will now be unlocked.[/QUOTE]
NOTE: You can do the official updates through the phone as normal without loosing your unlock
Hope you find this info useful
what ruu (PB99IMG) is it?
what if someone has an orange branded phone, coz there is no ruu for it and they would need a goldcard.
what about people from different regions coz theres different ruu's for different regions aswell and they would need a gold card.
edit: its a hboot.img, thought it was an ruu.
did u try this yet? does it work?
normaly when u change hboots u have to format partitions. if u go to the trouble of getting s-off then why not just run the correct ruu for ur device, just to be safe.

Hi,
It souldn't matter what network the phone is on - The HBoot was taken from a WWE RUU & I tested it with a UK Vodaphone branded desire which worked. I used this method to unlock a 1.02.0001 phone which isnt supported by xtc hence the downgrade needed. You shouldn't need a goldcard for the downgrade part as running the revolutionary tool will switch s-off, after applying the downgraded hboot it will turn s-on but as you will be on the old 0.93.0001 hboot you can just create the goldcard with xtc and complete the unlock if this step applies to you - it probably does as I dont know another reason for downgrading to this HBOOT.
Running the downgrade will wipe the phone - it did atleast with mine.
The reason I couldnt run an RUU to downgrade the hboot after turning s-off is because revolutionarys tool adds some protection to prevent hboot flashing via RUU & fastboot. The only way I could find to do it was to flash it directly from the SD card.
As for the other regions you may be right and need a local hboot - I'm not able to test this as I only ever get UK phones to unlock. If it is the case the HBOOT which you want to downgrade to can always be extracted from a local RUU and added to your own update.zip (named correctly of course) - The network branded phones on the other hand should make no difference - as s is off, so a UK orange, vodafone etc will take the hboot from WWE RUU aslong as s is off. (This is why its neccessary to run revolutionary first)
Hope this info helps.
cool. just so u know to unlock the hboot 6.93.1002 u have to flash the Alpharev downgrader img, that way it can be overwritten by an ruu

Hi,
Thanks for mensioning that, I did actually run the Alpharev downgrader as part of the process but completely forgot to add that step ( I wrote the tutorial after doing it not during ) With me though after running the alpharev downgrade the hboot still wouldnt downgrade from the ruu - also tried manually flashing with fastboot but got various errors (something to do with usb something or other - maby it was just my usb's playing up again as they occasionaly do) so for me I still had to do the sd card way but if you find it works for you with the ruu then even better.
For anyone getting stuck, do this step after running revolutionary - Just download the Bravo Downgrader from here http://alpharev.nl/ and run it before continuing with the rest of the steps.
i always use PB99IMG awsell, my laptop dont like my phone haha

desire with broken volume keys
hi friends, I found a HTC Desire bravo at the flee market and bought it thinking it is actually a nexus-one... a nice phone with lots of nice futures in it after a charging session the phone boot up and it was alive back again. with one problem the volume keys was not working.. ı dismantled it and cleaned up as it is described in xda forums and didn't worked so i made a little check and found the thin foil attaching the volume keys to the main board was broken since there is no way to fix it without changing the main board and i had no intention to pay lots of money on it i left it like that with one problem; no way to boot in to recovery from start... after couple of days i found i didn't liked the rom on it i decided to change it, there was no problem since i could boot it to recovery using the restart menu which the ROM had since it was rooted but i made a mistake and fell in to a boot lope the only way to boot it back was the adb commands but phone couldn't start up so no debugging mode only fast boot so i tried many fast boot commands to boot in to recovery with no success after searching forums i found lots of desire bravos around with the same problem.. so i used ruu to reboot it properly the only ruu worked for me was the official 2.3.3 update ruu ''RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe'' the phone booted and working now but no s off and no root and there was no way to root it without the volume up and down keys i was stuck with the useless unrooted rom so here how i rooted the phone without the volume keys first you have to download ''DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip'' and run it in USB debugging mode after that you have a working recovery partition to install a recovery bin using fastboot or what ever( the problem was after the update i lost the phones recovery partition and couldn't get the state s-off even i am s-off there was no recovery partition... since i am not good at commands to re format the boot loader this could be a life saver so i decided to share my experience... afterwards you can boot into recovery since you have a recovery partition you can push any recovery to your phone i think zergrush tool is not intended to use with bravo that why no body mentioned it in the bravo forums ops i forgot the say i used alphadevs methods and software to gain s-off on my phone before using zergrush i hope this will hwlp people like me stucked with non fonctioning volume keys
