So, I get updates from XDA via facebook and twitter, which is nice! The most recent one was about the iheartradio 3.0.3 app. There was a small thread and a link to the .apk for the app. Someone else had mentioned that they couldn't find the app in the market. So I went to the market on my PC36100 and I couldn't find it either. And then I remembered that the android market was now categorizing apps "not compatible" with particular devices. So, I went to the market via the web and there it was: iheartradio 3.0.3 - Not Compatible with my device! So, I went to the XDA thread to leave a little note about what I had found. WRONG! Because I have not posted 10 (threads, posts, replies?) I could not post to that particular "development thread". It's not a development thread, its an app notice, but I digress. I understand why XDA implemented this 10 post minimum, but it is a kind of a bummer. I don't post much on XDA because my knowledge of android is plebeian at best and the 10 post minimum doesn't help. I understand members, mods and devs are probably pretty tired of the vague, redundant and repetitive questions of the etiquette uninitiated and digitally uneducated masses... I'm just saying! [/RANT]
On the bright side, posting this increased your post count, and as of right now looks like you've broken the 10 post barrier. So, hooray, issue resolved!
i think the dev section is for roms only. u woulda got flamed bad. u coulda posted in the themes and apps section cuz u r talkin about an app

Firstly thank you for putting my TallMin icons the main site, very much appreciated. I have a question (posting so that I won't get banned if I'm doing wrong). I understand that people won't go into a different phone forum to check for icons, so am I ok to post multiple threads showing my icons?
For instance 1 on the desire themes section, and one in the nexus one themes section?
As I said I have already created these, but if it is deemed to be spam in your eyes please do let me know and I'll remove the extra threads asap.
Thanks
Your welcome
You can post threads to your work with no problem, just be sure you don´t double post the same work on different sections.
it is the same work though, but only posting it in one phone section sort of cuts out a whole lot of people who would also be interested. I couldn't find anything in the rules about this so thought it best to clarify directly.
(I've also seen people post same work in multiple phone sections so this is why i thought it should be ok)
This forum is so big that it´s almost impossible to be aware of all threads and posts. XDA rules mention no double posting/thread is allowed.
I got your point and for that you can use a better section to publish your work like:
Windows Mobile Themes
(Themes and skins for Windows Mobile devices)
Or
Windows Mobile Apps and Games
(Applications and games created by xda-developers users for use on Windows Mobile. No commercial apps/games allowed.)
So no matter what device, you can have one single thread containing all resolutions or specific devices.
I see thanks. Quite a few of the threads already have replies in, I'm almost certain some of those replies are from people that would have not seen the post if it only existed in the forums you mentioned. So I have to disagree with that rule, but will of course abide by it.
didn't know this was a rule but I suppose it does make sense,

A: Having a posting requirement for new users. I understand it cuts down on the "how do i root my phone" posts, but it seems just as bad to require 10 posts in a non-dev section before allowing new users to post in the dev section.
My real issue is that yelp does on work on the virtuous g2 rom. I noticed other people were having the same issue, and I would like to reply to them and let others know that this is a problem. But I have to get 10 posts first. Awesome.
10 posts is not alot...
Get yourself started with this thread. Lol.

I am having the same problem with Yelp. Whenever I open Yelp using Virtuous 0.9 it force closes upon opening the application.

If your looking for an answer to your problem with yelp FC's on the Virtuous 0.9.0, I seriously doubt that it will get much attention or a solution posting under a thread titled "[Q] Do you know what's dumb?" You might try posting in the Virtuous thread.
its pretty dumb that you wasted a thread on this, actually. haha. they want members to actively participate. 10 posts is not alot at all.
there are TONS of ways to participate on XDA to get 10 posts. share your screenshot or some wallpapers - there's 2. Go check out the Q&A section - surely there's something you can contribute to in there.
I realize it's frustrating, but the point isn't to annoy and frustrate new users - it's to prevent new users from annoying and frustrating people who are contributing to the community in general. It's also to encourage new people to participate and contribute in ways other than bug reporting/issue reporting. Not that bug/issue reporting isn't important, but if you come on here, report your bug, and then leave, the community gains nothing. If you join in some of the more community-building threads, the community gains a valuable member.

You know what's dumb?
A: Thinking it's cool to post "how do I root my phone" in the dev section. Nuff said.
Anyway, yelp not working isn't something that belongs in the dev section and I'm sure they know they're not alone in that issue, they don't need you to clutter a thread with 'hey, me too!!'. I'm sure there will be a solution to the issue and in the meantime I'd just use the website.
So, I've been lurking around and starting to post, here.
I don't subscribe to any threads, but I should probably change that, because:
I CAN NOT FIND MY POSTS.
Where is the option to view my posts? I thought that was S.O.P. I checked FAQ, and didn't see the info.
Sorry I'm so darned stupid. I can find my posts through my hero cdma xda premium via profile, but that app seems to really drain the ol' battery.
I thank you in advance for your infinite kindness and wisdom.
Hi permazorch,
Firstly, welcome to XDA. You can typically view the threads/posts you have created in your public profile.
If you click on your username, you should be redirected to your user profile ... in case, this should be a direct link to it:

HTH,
Thanks! It's appreciated.

dang you really didnt know huh
No, u r not the biggest idiot.
I made my first post 5months after creating my account. All that time i made few unsuccessful attempts to create insane threads in the development section. Xda was my first online forum and now im glad that i joined it.
Things keep changing mate....
my first few days i was confused by the whole "no posting in development" thing because its xda-DEVELOPERS.com i thought every forum was developers, i came here off google and didnt know about the development SUB-sections.
it happens. theres bigger idiots around.!
under your profile is the easiest way
Forums can get hard to get used to, especially since all are different. Best thing to do when your lost, is what you did.....ask away, you may get some flamers, but ignore them, and someone will offer good advice.
I use the xda app only. We have the participated tab. It shows the threads you are part of with the most recent contributions. Is there nothing like that on the webpage?

As a bigtime noob still trying to figure this place out, I'm glad you asked the question.
hi guys..i want to see the android devlopment section sort topics by their update date, not by the most active topic. for example if there's a rom updated on 29th aug i want it to show it above all the rest, is that possible?
We can do away with the search button as well and have the devs at our becon call lol. joking
Threads move up if they have new replies on them. If no one replies in them they fall back even with development threads. If your looking to keep up with your rom updates then you need to keep up with its thread. Hate to say so
The thing is, XDA is a forum format first and foremost. (Look at that alliteration!) It's not a website set up solely for devs to post ROMs. So I don't think you can sort threads by update date, since that's not even a sortable field. In fact, I don't even think goo.im, which IS a website set up solely for devs to post ROMs, does that.
Aww that would have made life much easier. Thanks for the replies though

xda forum posts are a pain to search through- multiple topics are discussed in a single thread for a rom, a thread system like reddit would make this site so much more efficient to read. Alternatively, posts could be auto-tagged or categorized by issues and the user could filter based on those tags- imagine clicking on the tag "camera" and getting posts related to camera issues/solutions rather than reading through the whole thread. :silly:
Great idea, I've never thought of that...this could make it too easy to read the threads like u mentioned..this feature can be made for Android Development and Original Android Development sections, but one does not simply ask for a change. :silly:
(and you earned your first thank from me)

I agree with you. magnificent
We have a search function on the site and in our app also. Your idea is very good though, probably could reduce a lot of useless post and unneeded Question thread. The only issue I see for this though is implementing this into xda, one way we could do it small sections at a time. I'll bring this thread up with other mods and Admins for sure.
But it would make things horrible in large threads. Everybody would be wanting to participate in the main convo of the OP, and irrelevant issues could be dragged on and on; both of which would defeat the purpose.
Plus, there would be countless possibilites where a new post would appear.

Why not be able to choose the way you view the thread and subsequent replies? (Also, they can be hidden from view unless clicked on)

You want threads inside threads and just make more mess of the current layout and then more mods when not needed. Just leave things as they are. No need for more mess and more mods running around the place. :banghead:

Yo dawg, I heard you like threads, so I put the threads inside your threads, so you can read the threads while you read the threads

If you're using a browser, go to the top of the page and check under "display modes". One of them allows you to see the thread in conversation mode, so replies are tied to posts, making it more of a treeview.
I think this is what you're asking for.
If you're looking for it on the app then you'd have to speak to the Tapatalk developers about integrating said display modes into their app before it ever made its way into the xda app.
