So I just got a brand new 32GB Kingston SDHC and every time I copy any music onto it, it takes the time to do so, but once I disconnect it, there is none on my card. Even when I connect it again to the computer to see if its there, its not. Any ideas on whats going on? Other files do go on and stay on, but not music (mp3 to be exact).
EDIT:
I have noticed that every time I do the transfer, the LOST.DIR folder fills up and when I look at the files within it using ES File Explorer they are my music files. Any ideas now, or do I need a new card?
Bump anyone?

Did you format the card at all? this can be done right from the phone. It will completely erase anything on there, and then android will build the folders as it needs them.
From the phone, Menu>settings>sd card & phone storage>press "unmountSD card">then press "Format SD card"
From a PC
i) Get a micro SD adapter
ii) unmount your microSD card and take out of phone
iii) put your micro SD card into your adapter and put into your computer's card reader (if you have one)
iv) go to "my computer" and right click on the SD card
v) select "format"
You can try NTFS, but I think, and I could be wrong, that the phone only supports Fat32.
Did you buy it from an authorized retailer? Or from a place like ebay? What you described is a tell-tale sign of a faked card. Its so easy to take a 2gb card, and paint on a number 3 onto it to make it look like a 32gb card.

I did get it from ebay, but it was from a store and came in a sealed package. And that doesn't explain why it shows 32GB on the computer and phone, any other ideas?
Its possible you may have a dud. You can try re-formatting as fat32 and if it doesn't work, I'd ask for an exchange/refund.
Ok, I have formatted several times and all that happens is some of the music will copy to the card, but not all of it. However, I have noticed that every time I do the transfer, the LOST.DIR folder fills up and when I look at the files within it using ES File Explorer they are my music files. It doesn't matter if it's from a store or a person, both are capable of selling fake cards. And anyone with a hair dryer can re-seal a package, or they can just buy new ones for a few pennies.

Most fake cards WILL show 32gb. There is a file or something built into the card that can be faked to show a bigger capacity. It's very easy for even the dumbest hacker to do.

A couple of months ago I purchased a 16gb microsd card from ebay.
I bought it for only $15 but I think I now understand why it was so cheap...
The card itself was new and all, but unbranded. So I think it's safe to say that it was a counterfeit sd card I still have the card right now and I can store music, movies, files, etc in the card; HOWEVER, when I try to boot android from the card I keep getting the "unable to mount to sdcard" error.
Is my card broken/dead? And if so, is there any way to fix it besides buying a new one??
I'm planning on buying a new one if there is no absolute way in fixing the card. What would you guys recommend for a new sdcard??
Thanks!

I wouldn't even work with that SD card knowing it's counterfeit. Did you try to use another Android type? Did it work before?
Me, I wouldn't even trust the damn thing. Go get yourself a nice Sandisk microSD card (like you shoulda done in the first place )

Yes, I should've but being a poor college student every penny counts
And yes, android DID work before...this error started popping up recently. I also heard from other sites/forums that msdcards CAN go dead.
I'll pick one up tonight. Any suggestions?
I'm thinking of a Transcend 4gb class 6.
I dont know what to say about the SD card, other than doing a format with the Windows Command prompt and also formatting the boot sector, but I would recommend a SanDisk. I have never had a problem, and the transfer rates are amazing. I have an 8 Gig now, and im either getting a 16 Gb or waiting to find a 32 GB

Just got home from Fry's.
I ended up purchasing a sony microSD 4gb class 4
I know Sony is a reputable brand so I trust them. But if any of you know any cons with Sony microSD let me know! I can already see a difference in speed with this new microSD.
Yipeeee!
i just got a new sd card switch to a 32g but for some reason when i try to put ALL my fav tunes on there it always seems to screw up and not copy most of them...what am i doing wrong i know i have enough space..
Maybe try putting the songs in small portions if you have a lot.. other than that I don't know, bro.

Did you try formatting the card? Where did you buy it? I have heard many many many times that ebay is infiltrated with fraud 32gb cards. They are really 4 or 8gb or something like that. When you mount the card in your computer or phone, what does it show the total size as?
it shows the right amount...
Fraud cards still show the "right" amount as far as I know. Dunno if they do in the phone though

You have been EVOfied.
You can test your card's real capacity with a utility like h2test, which will write files until it's full and then verify them. Though you've basically already verified it...if it consistently stops writing files at a certain capacity, that's probably the true capacity of the card. As others have said, if you bought it from ebay, it's common.
http://www.heise.de/software/download/h2test/19574
Don't let the German scare you. It supports English.
Just went through this with a Wintec card bought from Fry's. Here's what will happen with your card, too:
Code:
while (patience == good)
{
Card will spontaneously corrupt data;
Reformat card;
Restore data from back (you do have a backup, right?);
}
beat card into powder with a ball-peen hammer;
I spent $119 for my card and this happened. Return it if you can.

I used to get corrupted stuff too. What I did that stopped it for me was put a thick piece of paper on top of the card and into the slot. When the battery was on top of the card, out would keep it from moving. I suspected the card and phone contacts weren't staying firmly set. If a write cycle happened when the connection was intermittent, corrupt files and or file allocation table.
Is the microSD card in the Evo when you transfer all that stuff to it? If so, it might be worth a shot to take it out and just use a standalone card reader or USB adapter to hook it up to your computer and then transfer that way. No idea if it would make a difference, but just another thing you can try.

I had a strange problem happen to my SD Card on my SG3. I have a Patriot 16GB class 10 card that I used on my EVO 4G for a almost 2 year without a problem. After when I got my new phone I clean all folders that I no longer needed except my pictures and some applications. Put the card in my SG3 and everything was OK. I was able to copy files take a pictures and everything seems to work the way it should. Last week I was on a trip and during the process to taking a picture I got a message that my card was removed and basically disappear. I reboot the phone and nothing happen. then a little bit later I saw another message that card was found and everything show up again. Then I check do I have all the pictures and most of them were there except on a last one was (when card disappear) basically it was look like that picture was taken a half way. So I delete that bad picture and continue. A day later it happen again but this time when card show up again instead a normal card I have that message in notification bar with a little sd card that it says Blank SD card. then if I pull down and click on it phone is asking me to format the card. I try to mount the card but got the same message Blank card or unsupported file system. Ok so I didn't have at that time my adapter to plug in to my laptop and wait until I got home to try to repair the card.
Here is what I got now and I'm not sure is phone damage the card or card slot on the phone is not good.
I use minitool under windows and GParted as well under linux. Both of them recognize my card as 60 GB Unallocated space (it is a 16GB). when I try to recreate or format both of them said successful but card is not show up. I have to plug it back and then it goes again as a 60GB unallocated space.
Does any one know how to format a 16GB card as FAT32? I mean the settings I have to use to put to get back again this card as a 16GB not as 60GB.
Sorry for the long explanation and thanks for you help in advance.
P.S. I' not rooted and on LG8 update.

Windows will format it just fine under Disk Management. The fact that its reading it as a 60GB... I'd bet on the card as bad. I have hours and hours trying to save thumb drives and SD cards. 97% of them had no hope. Sometimes the card reader can act up... but not likely, and the phone's kicking it out too. Try to stick with Kingston or SanDisk even if you have to pay a little more. Yes, Cards do go bad like that.

Thanks for the reply. It is look like that this card is going bad. It kind a surprise me since I didn't have any problems under my old phone. I will play a little bit more to try to repair it but....... looks like will be a lost a time.
Do you think that because it was a class 10 card causing a issue? I saw a couple treads but most of the SD card that people use are class 4.

Probably 1.5 year. I got my EVO 4G back in sept. 2010 and bought the card a couple months later when rooted my phone.
Yeah, like root said, the class wasn't the issue. The different phone might have pissed it off but you really never know. I never liked Patriot myself, but then some people like them. Gotta back stuff up or have it auto upload somewhere.

When I first got my SGS3 I used my old card from my OG Droid. I got an OTA update and my phone quit working (I got the "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped working" message). I took the phone back and they asked if I had ever had an SD card in it. I said "Yes, my old card from my Droid." I was told that this is a "known issue" with the SGS3 and that any SD card I used should be formatted in the phone itself. I'm not sure if this is the issue here, but it might be.

P.S. I did play with couple more tools but unfortunately no luck at all. It is time to look for a new one.
Whipped out my phone today to snap a quick photo and it didnt save wtf? Take another photo and it says it cant write to SD card and switching to phone. It let me take the pic and save to phone. Looked at gallery and it said 600 photos on SD card. Tried to delete some and take pix, but same thing happened. When i unmounted and remounted it showed the pix i deleted still and 600 photos. Can't figure out why its not deleteing or saving to my SD card. Using a Samsung 32gb class 10.
edit: looks like if i connect my phone to the PC and try to delete the pix off it, it says remove write protection first. any idea what may cause this? Music says write protection as well
edit2: looks like pix saved after formating, attempting to move all pix and music back on and try again.

Nope Tiger Direct, its a Samsung 32gb Class 10, had it in a few different android phones and it worked well in this one up until today.
Going to attempt to copy it to HDD, format, then try a pic with it. If that works, move everything back over to it.
When SD cards start randomly throwing write-protection at you randomly along with other issues as you've mentioned, it usually (and unfortunately) means that the card is failing.
You can try to recreate the partition table and then re-format the SD card to see if that helps at all:
Put the card into a card reader, and insert it into a Windows PC.
Press the Windows key + R at the same time on your keyboard.
In the Run dialog, type "diskpart.exe" (without the quotes).
If prompted, provide consent to run the program as an administrator.
Type list disk (followed by the Enter key).
Find the number corresponding to your SD card (e.g. disk 1).
Type select disk X (followed by the Enter key. X is the number for the SD card.)
Type clean (followed by the Enter key).
Type create partition primary (followed by the Enter key).
Type select partition 1 (followed by the Enter key).
Type format fs=fat32 quick (followed by the Enter key).
Type assign (followed by the Enter key).
Copy your data back to the SD card, then reinsert into your phone.

It's bound to happen with any flash-based media, there's different variables like static damage etc. that are hard to factor in. I have a 32GB SanDisk Ultra Mobile UHS-1/Class 10 that I've used for a few months and, knock on wood, it's still working perfectly fine. On that same hand, I've had Kingston SD cards and flash drives both fail on me within a month of purchasing them for no apparent reason.
I'm running a 32 GB class 4 sandisk card. Had it about a year. Only issue I have is slow data transfer, as expected. I have 700+ pictures on it now, and several Hours of downloaded videos and videos from my phone. I am planning on picking up one of those 64 GB MicroSDXC UHS-1 cards if Amazon drops them back down to $49. They were that price for a few weeks so I thought that meant the 128 cards would be out soon and I was wanting to see how much those would be. But, now they are back to $60.

For the longest time, I have been unable to use my 128GB Sandisk MicroSD card properly with my GN4. I have tried SD card fixes, foldermount, and messed with the platform.xml file as well. What I used to do back in the days of ICS/Pre KitKat 4.4.4 was take the SD card and plug it into my computer (via SD card adapter) and transfer the files I needed directly since it takes a while longer if I connected the phone to the computer. I can still transfer files to the microSD card if I plug it in, but they are not able to be read. This is starting to piss me off as I have a lot of music that I would like to store on the card. Anyone have anything else they can suggest?
I used foldermount last week - Some of the music files work properly, while some don't play and I get the message "unable to play this file."
I bought this card brand new and I'm hoping it's not "a bad card"

I also use a 128gb Sandisk Card, the "ultra" I believe. I never had a problem with it, I just came from the Note 3 and put it in the Note 4 with no issues. Is yours the "Ultra" also?
Maybe a bad card. I got 3 fake ones on eBay before I got a real one. I flipped out on the sellers and reported them. Each time I got a bad one I spent hrs copying data over to the 128. I would copy over around 20 gb, and another 20 and so on. When I went to look at the files that I had first put on there they would be gone. There are programs u can download for free. Just Google how to tell if sd card is fake. A fake card is really a 2/4/8/16/32 card changed to look and act like a 128 and once it hits it's limit that u don't know what that is, the earlier data that was put on the card, disappears.
Here is a link for a program I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730285
This happened to me back in Oct/Nov when note 4 was launched. I ended up paying $120 on eBay for SanDisk's highest r/w 128 gb card.
The first seller claimed he didn't know they were fake and promised to stop selling them if I retracted my bad feedback as it was the only bad feedback he had ever received. Once I saw they were removed from his selling list I retracted the feedback. The second and third sellers I was not nice to, did not even have to send them back the pos card. My response was something like refund my ****ing money now for selling me this fake ****ing sd card. Ten minutes later both had gave me my money back. Assholes. After I got a good one I had contacted the first seller again and explained how much trouble I had and the scam artists there are on eBay. I feel that he was genuinely sorry and had no idea. He also stopped doing business with who he was getting the fake cards.
This good card has been great, note 4 32 gb internal, 128 external, both full, zero problems.
Plug it into your computer and check if it's formatted correctly (fat32 vs NTFS). That might solve the problem. Don't quote me, but I think it needs fat32.

Yes it does need to be fat 32.
Also if is fake, u might format it, move data, insert in phone, and it says it's not readable and needs to be formatted.
Yes mine is the ultra version as well (in red letters on the micro sd card)

Yes it does need to be fat 32.
Also if is fake, u might format it, move data, insert in phone, and it says it's not readable and needs to be formatted.

the two options are exFAT and NTFS. I formatted on exFAT and it seemed to be working just fine until today.
So I use my sd card as direct storage for when pictures are taken. I was at dinner today and took pictures of the food we ate. All of a sudden when I go to the Gallery, I see a black and grey image with an exclamation point for the pictures taken at dinner with the exception of one. I am wondering whether Samsung/Google is releasing updates that put the phone back into the main issue of not being able to R/W to the external sd card? I don't know what else could be the reason. I also tested the card to make sure it wasn't fake. SO DAMN FRUSTRATING!
Shouldn't have to format it. Already exfat when it comes. If it's real, contact sandisk with pictures of the card and it's serial number and a copy of the receipt. They will replace it.
