anyone know of anywhere to grab pre configured videos that will playback on the orbit? if its not allowed to be posted can anyone pm me ?
I have TCMP player installed on the phone which is brill, played back an mpg that I had on my comp in 352x240 and its was very smooth, not tried an avi's, tried a wmv but the res was 653x something or other ?!? this was very jerky on the phone
if there isnt anywhere to get files set up for playback on the orbit is there any good software to edit properties of the existing videos I have
I think, though I am often wrong, that if you download a copy of a movie you already own, even from some bittorrent site with something like bitcomet, that I would not be breaking the law.
thats right i think, only its hard to find stuff in 320x240 unless theres someway of changing avi's or finding media in PPC format
Any xvid a friend of mine has tried works in TCPMP even across his network. Usually at least VGA. But if you need card space.
ok well I had a go at encoding a normal film with pocketdivxencoder, it comes out smooth but a little pixelated. any optimum settings ?? it encodes at 320x132...why not 320x240?

Depends on where you live.
In the US, there is a fair use clause I think. In the UK there is no such thing as fair use - it is in fact illegal to rip mp3s from a CD that you own and put them on your own mp3 player (unless it's written into a license clause), although it's obviously not enforced. Part of the European Copyright Directive so probably applies to the rest of Europe too.
Having said that, I think there is some legislation that is currently in the process of going through that will allow you to make copies for your own use, as I everyone knows that the law is daft as it stands.
try pocketdivxencoder, i got me a copy of tenacious D in AVI format and converted it. Picture was DVD quality and filesize was only around 300-400mb
Yeah I only got pocketdivxencoder last night and had a go with the same file but using different setting, all play smooth but look pretty pixelated and a bit blurry if im being honest, I think it may be down to never using the program before
can you remember the parameters you used to encode the file? ie the audio/video quality slide bar resolution set to and advanced video options ?!? I just accepted the default settings that it gave when I selected the "PDA" from device list.
thanks
cant actually remember to be honest, think i just used default for a quick test when got it and the result was pretty good.
I had all but given up hope on this topic, but I guess I'll ask.
The Samsung Galaxy S will play Divx/Xvid/MKV natively without a conversion. This is probably one of the best features I have ever heard, as I have hoped for it to be in some sort of mobile device I already owned, such as a phone, psp, or some other multi-purpose device, instead of having to buy a standalone media player which tends to play many formats.
All videos I watch are encoded in these formats (well mkv encoded in x264, with mkv container). Is there, or will there ever be a way to play these on Android 2.1 or 2.2 for other models? I have an evo, and would be EC-FREAKING-STATIC if I could just drag and drop videos to watch on it. Especially with the hdmi out!! I love the evo, I really think it is great. This one feature is the icing on the cake for me.
If it cannot be done, can somebody just give me a brief description as to why? The way I see it, when you need to play these files on a pc, you just install a video codec to decode it. Isn't there some way it can be added?
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer this.
P.S.- For anyone who thinks conversion isn't a big deal, I agree, it really isn't. The thing is, a lot of the time I find out I need to be somewhere, have to leave right away, and don't have anything converted to watch. I can't tell you how many times I wish I had this feature!
atm there are not many options, at least as far as i know...
stock player (good baseline h264 playback)
rockplayer (good divx/xvid playback)
yxplayer (decent main/high h264 playback)
for everything else, i simply have "stream" folder on my PC, drop all other vids there, and play them using OrbLive while on the go.
Damn I have been living in the dark. Thanks!
just finished playing with rockplayer, and its pretty darn good
im actually waiting for something bad to happen, and then i
remember... I'm not using a windows mobile phone anymore.

lol, see now that's funny!
Wuzhenhua player maybe? I havent tried it out on the evo yet but it worked solidly on my other device.
I was just wondering what the best way to edit music files is before adding them to my evo. I have my music perfectly organized in itunes but when I drag and drop in my sd and look through my phone most songs don't have artwork or artists. I tried editing them in windows media player but that didn't work so what's the best program to organize my music.

I use MP3Tag for editing that info ( i do it before importing it to iTunes ), but i would think that should still be intact if you have it in iTunes. If you already have the music on the card, you can try installing mp3tag, right click the folder on the SD Card where you have your music, select "MP3Tag" & it will open all the MP3's in that folder for you to edit the meta data.
doubleTwist. 'Nuff said.
I've always been a proponent of proper ID3 tagging. I use Tag&Rename, which is great for batch operations and will even let you embed album art into each individual file. Develop a system of your own. I have my music folder classified by genre, and then artists within each genre folder, then albums within those. I would suggest at least keeping folders for artists.
Also, I hate iTunes because the one time I actually tried it, it reorganized all my files, copied them, retagged them, and screwed them all up. And because it's Appleware. Do the work and you'll be rewarded.
I've been using iTunes for my main collection, then when I copy stuff onto my SD card, if I care enough at the time (Hey! Sometimes I'm in a hurry!), I'll use dBpoweramp's ID3 editor. Lets me embed album artwork and edit the tags on just about any file type, from MP3 and AAC to FLAC and ALAC.
ive tried doubletwist and i wasnt a huge fan. sorry for such a late response i forgot i made this thread lol im going to try Tag&Rename see how that goes ill reply after. only reason i use itunes is because i used to have an iphone lol and i had spent a while organizing all my music on itunes not realizing it didnt actually change the file and i didnt feel like reorganizing it all over again but now i feel up to it so hopefully this doesnt take forever
This is a bit interesting. I recently got a Focus updating from my iPhone. I loaded Zune up and then added my library but was told that a number of songs could not be played. No biggie as I don't really use my phone as my iPod. Fast forward to today and I had unbranded my loaded the pre-Nodo update with the new Zune. I decided to load up my library and I can now play Apple DRM free files (M4A).
Has anyone else noticed this? New feature of the update perhaps, or am I just losing my mind?
Are you on a Mac? I know the Zune Connector software was updated to support Apple audio files
I am on Windows... I wasn't sure if it would work to be honest. The first time that I loaded the files in, none of the ones bought via iTunes would play but now all of them do. I even loaded a song to the phone and it played.
That is quite nice.
In reverse yesterday Zune quit showing ANY artwork of any album, just a plain background. Even with the albums which were previously displaying.
According to the supported codecs list, WP7 can play m4a: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff462087(VS.92).aspx
Are you sure you weren't trying to load m4p files?
No, these are M4A files. Like I said, I might have been out of my mind.
Well, now I am ever happier with the phone.
Hey guys, i don't know about you, but i have a TON of FLAC audio files which i would love to play on my phone. But, the issue is that Zune wont recognize it. I created a suggestion and if you feel the same way, you should vote for it to be implemented in future updates.

That's why I stopped using Zune.
I have no idea why Microsoft decided to not support FLAC in Zune but someone in the Zune camp needs a kick in the backside.
Anyone with a half descent sound system can here the difference between a mp3 and FLAC file.
This is a lost cause. There's no way Microsoft will ever support open source codec's such as FLAC or MKV. Not only are these codecs undermining their MPEG-LA licensing efforts but using them will look weird when they start suing people for infringing on Microsoft's patents using these free ones.
Use WMA lossless.
I highly doubt you have such great gear tied to your phone that a 320 MP3 won't do.
It's not so much about the quality through the phone...I don't care about it, but many people like me, have really big FLAC libraries. I have absolutely no intention to convert these huge libraries to a lossy format because I listen to them through high end sound systems in my home. So, I just want Zune to recognize any flac file I throw into it, like it was an mp3, and be able to manage these libraries through Zune, even if it has to convert the tracks I sync with it to mp3. I wonder why everybody thinks that it's only an issue about the quality through the phone...It's more of an organizing issue...I want to be able to browse my libraries like everyone else and sync the files I want through Zune...
I can certainly understand the wish and frustration. But it's not going to happen. So you better learn to live with it or choose another OS.
There is a chance that an OEM can do it though, so you may have better luck letting them know.
hard drive space is cheap, why not convert it all for Zune, while retaining the flac files for use with other devices

Actually, I can't imagine what other devices may support flac but not support aac/wma lossless.

I Know how you feel I have over 2 TB of saved files that I spent days converting.
I will just keep using foobar or something similar.
For the record most of the music sold by HDtracks is FLAC.
frankly speaking I prefer FLAC than mp3 but as for now what I can hear is Lossless WMA
