I upgraded to 2.3 and one feature I loved was its touchscreen keyboard. I went back to the frozen rom and was wondering if theres a way to get the keyboard from 2.3 onto 2.2?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's in the market under "Gingerbread Keyboard".
Otherwise: http://lifehacker.com/5708080/use-the-new-gingerbread-keyboard-on-your-rooted-android-phone
Thanks I see it and got it. But I cant use it. I have it setup for my input but it wont pop up?
Nevermind, rebooted and it work. Thank you
I like Better Keyboard 8 just throwing that out there.
Settings, locale and text, enable it.

I tried upgrading to Fresh Rom 3.1.0.1 but I'm took hooked on the Droid-X keyboard, I had to go back to Eclair Fresh Rom.
I tried CM6 out, bad ass rom btw but I'm so used to Sense, I wanted to stay on Fresh.
Now the Droid-X keyboard will not work on ForYo I heard but what does CM6 have? Sure looks like the Droid-X to me, re-skinned black. Matter of fact I've seen the Droid-X keyboard re-skinned black so I know it was done.
I snagged CM6, ripped it's keyboard apk and tried to install it on Fresh, which Fresh FroYo, which is told me I would be replacing my existing keyboard, then it told me it couldn't install.
Is there a way to remove the factory keyboard with 2.2 and push that one in and have it work or could you devs make it work?
If I'm on the wrong track here, let me know but the one IN CM6 sure looks like the Droid-X running on 2.2 to me.
Is the CM6 keyboard the native 2.2 keyboard?
On a related note, can someone post the .apk for the native 2.2 keyboard?
CM6 is using the stock froyo keyboard with the hidden number panel that you slide up to open. At least RC1 was, and I doubt the nightly would be any different. Correct me if I'm wrong please.
I believe the keyboard in CM6 is the stock Froyo 2.2 keyboard. I'm not sure if you removed the HTC one if it would default to that one since it's not already available when you try to chose a different input method.
Rm apk from cm6 push to w.e. Rom you want... profit

I could be totally wrong, but doesnt RM ReMove stuff? Delete it? Anyway, I took the keyboard from CM6, pushed it to system/app, reset, and it now shows up in input method, but force closes when selected. Must be relying on a lib file or something.
I have Netarchy's ROM installed, and i too fell in love with the CM6 keyboard. So i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744373 and now i have the CM6 Keyboard on my ROM. Works Flawless. No FC r anything.

You are AWESOME. Worked like a charm. Thanks a lot!
So then the CM6 keyboard, which is stock ForYo 2.2 keyboard, is the same keyboard the Droid-X was using on 2.1 Eclair?
I'm looking at both the one released as the Droid-X keyboard (Eclair), the white one and the one from CM6 which is black, they look the SAME to me other then color. Both are multi-touch etc too.
I'll have to check out that thread. Just leaving work so I'll check when I get home.
No Problem. Just trynna Help

The Droid X keyboard is a customized version of the stock Android 2.1 keyboard.
The CM6 keyboard IS the stock Android 2.2 keyboard.
The 2.2 keyboard has the feature that lets you drag up to get the number row, this isn't CM6 specific. I don't remember the CM6 keyboard supporting multi-touch, I think I even tried.
Hey guys, I looked around and couldn't find anything but. 8s there any way to get swype back on CM6? Thanks for replies in advance.

I used that version and it's quite fugly. There a way to skin it?
Is this the version of Swype from the original 2.1 slide rom or is it some dodgy low-res knockoff?

Its the same res, but blue instead of black. Also, the swype that comes with the slide is 1.29.x and the one I downloaded and am running is 1.60.x, and it runs much better.

weird. Is there a special way to install swype or something? I tried installing swype with astro, but swype is not showing up as an input method...
when I pressed launch (via app manager) it says activity not found: com.swype.android.inputmethod
Lol, I was just asking about this in my question thread. It might not be installing because it needs to changed from a .zip to .apk. that's just what was suggested to me. Haven't tried yet
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
lol nvm I just found out >_>
go setting->language & keyboard settings-> enable swype and you're good to go
speaking of which, is there a swype keyboard of similar version yet with a different skin? or does the later versions make a significant improvement? The blue one looks kinda eh on the screen =\
The keyboard in 1.60 is bigger more like the size htc_ime

Both of the APKs that were linked say that they're expired is there another version I can use?
I finally decided to root my phone and install CM7.
I love it, but the lack of a decent keyboard is killing me. I've searched everywhere and can't find one.
Anyone know how I can get back my original keyboard? Or at least a better one?
It'd also be nice to get HTC's camera software back.

Ultra keyboard and swiftkey are both good, available in the market. No htc keyboards work on CM as far as I know. Same with the camera. If you want those things, you'd need to flash a sense ROM. So, AOSP or Sense is the question.

You could sign up for the Swype Beta and get Swype for free.
+1 on SwiftKey, one of the best. Good luck

That's the Google keyboard, you can get the HTC keyboard off this site or make a custom keyboard. Just search HTC hi res22, I think the guy name was Jonas

Been using smart keyboard and its very similar to the HTC keyboard.
if you like the sense-like keyboard feel, try swiftkey. it is pretty amazing how accurately it predicts words. almost spooky.
i personally use the newest swype beta, and am loving it. i can type extremely fast and accurately, the voice typing is awesome and crazy good, and i can type one handed faster than i can with two hands on swiftkey. try it you wont be sorry. the beta is still open so just sign up and you will get accepted within 10 minutes.
Anyone know where to get the Gingerbread keyboard for a screen our size? I downloaded one of the apk's and its made for a 3" screen or something like that. I love this phone but hate the samsung/swype keyboards.
I downloaded "keyboard from Android 2.3" from the market and I really like it so far.

i thought the stock samsung keyboard was basically the gingerbread keyboard that came with the phone
I am pretty sure that the stock keyboard is Samsung's take on it. Just like TW, this is their keyboard.
Also I downloaded the Keyboard from android 2.3 off the market. I'm very pleased with it as well
I downloaded it as well, but when you go to install it, there is a warning that says, "...Gingerbread keyboard application may collect all the text you type, including passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal data. Continue?" I hit "Cancel." Is this normal for a keyboard from the market to ask?
I am pretty sure that is normal, of all the keyboards that i have tried in the past they all gave me a warning like that, i think that it is a built in message just for safety reasons but i have never had a problem with it
I saw that too, but I didn't worry too much about it. I don't use my phone to enter credit card numbers or anything like that.

Yes, if you installed a Swype beta in the past it included this as well IIRC

All you have to do is long press in any text box and select "input method" when the option pops up. It will ask you to choose between sammys take on either Swype or the stock Gingerbread keyboard. Hope that helps
If it was in a rom.. Then go into the zip file and open it up.
1. Open ____.zip file. (aka your rom)
2. Go to system/apps/
3. Now look for the keyboard that your looking for.
4. Extract it.
5. Find the apk file where you extracted it and then go to your phone and place the apk file in your phones sd card or usb storage.
6. Install it and it should work.. But idk. If it force closes then its not fit for the screen and firmware
6.

I am tying to use gingerbread keyboard but it keeps switching back to swype .... Should i just use the samsung keyboard and wait for the update? Or is there a way to make it stop switching to swype?
You can go to settings and uncheck swype keyboard if you don't want to use it.
I have done that several times and it keeps going back to Swype ... Its like my phone is forcing me to use swype when im using the gingerbread keyboar.. When i keep on the samsung keyboard, it seems to stay on that . And it doesnt switch back to swype... But i dont want to use the samsung keyboard, it sucks!!

If you are rooted, freeze Swipe in Titanium Backup or some other utility. You could also uninstall it (still need root).
If you are not rooted, search the Market for another keyboard and install it and use it. SwiftKey is great (imo).
This is why many root their phones.
Thank you so much!! Forgot that i have the ability to Freeze apps now that i have rooted my s2.... i love this forum! Very active and helpful ...better than any other android forum website.
So i uninstalled Swype ... Nowni am trying to use gingerbread keyboard , but keeps switching back to Samsung keyboard.... Seems like my phone keeps rejecting gingerbread kb ... Is this a app issue?

Not sure if it is, but you could also freeze the Samsung keyboard to stop it. Just make sure you have at least one keyboard installed.
I don't know if you have tried it, but, the Swipe Beta has Dragon speech recognition build in. I am using it and I hardly ever have to correct it. It is really good. If you want to try it search the internet for Swipe Beta. You will have to register with them but it really worth it.
Also, as mentioned in my last post, Swift Key is really good. It uses the email and texts in your phone to help its prediction process turning the typing process into only a few taps per message. Definitely worth a try.
Problem solved .. thank u .. close thread
Youre clearing tasks... so that kills the gb keyboars. So it goes to smasung keypad
