Hi, I have the HTC wildfire A33333 model and it's been having issues with CyanogenMod where after a few hours, screens will show up blank from apps, however redrawing assets make them show. However, pressing where I guess them to be works. System assets cause issues too, the notification bar can have an invisible background and the keyboard will be invisible. Also the power menu is invisible, making it difficult to restart normally.
I am on the latest radio (20.10) and only use 3g and wifi. 2g makes these problems worse and reboots the phone, however my SD card isn't recognised.
My SD card is 16gb
I hope I can get this fixed

Which version of CyanogenMod are you using? And have you tried reflashing that CyanogenMod rom?

I've been using Cyanongen 7.0.3 for a couple of months now. Recently the phone is acting quite strange. It's constantly lockig up(I need to remove the battery to restart it). Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Can this be caused by an app that's installed?

I have noticed the same problem with every non-sense roms i have tried (oxygen, CM, Redux and MIUI). In my case it specially occurs when I used Spotify, It stops paying music and then force-close after that the rom gets very slow, cant restart the normal way either, have to pull out the battery...
I think I've found the problem. After uninstalling JuiceDefender the problem stopped(at least for now)

My Desire phone has been doing that since it was new - last January. When I make or receive a phone call, the screen locks so that I cannot use the keyboard for an automated answering system. Finally, I can never hang up. Pressing the power button sometimes shows the hang up button for about half a second.
I sent it to the HTC agent for repair and was told nothing was wrong with it!
I have rooted the phone, to see if I could change the settings controlling the phone, but so far have had no luck. I can't use the phone as a phone!!!!!
PS. At first, I uninstalled all the apps I had collected, but the problem continued. I have also reset the phone to factory settings, but still no improvement. I wonder how many users have this sort of problem.
Hi, I'm having a problem with my Desire, whenever I am phoning someone or recieving a call the phone screen stops working and shuts off, plus none of the buttons work. I have to remove the battery or get the other person to end the call in order to get it working again. The speaker still works though. Any things I should do before I restore. Oh and I am rooted running the latest Acesmod Rom.

So you cannot turn on screen by just pressing power button? Turns the screen immediately off when you receive / make call or only when you hold near it your ear?
All the buttons are unresponsive. And no I'm not holding it up against my ear. Thanks for trying to help though.

Nevermind I've fixed it. I found a post that said to try blowing between the screen and ear piece. And to my suprise it started working again.

Sorry to bring this old thread up again, but I believe I have a similar problem and don't find a solution: sometimes my desire freezes or crashes, I'm not sure, but I can't wake it up from standby and there's no reaction to the buttons either.
I know from my girlfriend that she tried to call me in that state and to her it seems that I'm not picking up, which is why I think that only the screen freezes.
Also when it is not in standby and I get a call, the screen sometimes freezes and I can't get any reaction of it.
In both cases, only removing the battery helps.
I've encountered this problems in 2 custom roms, at first Reflex S 2.1.7 and now Redux2. Here are some specs:
Rom: Redux2-31.08-TEST
Android: 2.3.5 rooted
Recovery: Amon Ra, have to look up the version...
Radio: 32.56.00.32H_5.17.05.23
Kernel: 2.6.35.13-stable [email protected] #1
Screen should be SLCD, but how can I check to be sure?
Stock partition layout, S-On, PVT4, I did not change the h-boot...
sd card: 16gb sandisk: 1 gb ext3 for app2sd+ and dalvik cache, rest fat
To flash redux i wiped data, cache and dalvik cache
Does someone know how I can fix this? Or how I can find out if an app is causing the problem? Or if blowing between screen and earpiece really should solve the problem, why this occurs?
I really love my Desire now that I have som much more space than on stock Froyo, but if it's so unreliable for calling I will have to revert back...

For Redux:
ondemand, 245-998, did not change that since flashing. Freezes happened with both lower cpu when screen off (screenstate scaling) turned on and off.
Don't know for Reflex, if it was even possible to change anything I never did, so it was the standard...

Maybe a chunk of dirt/filth gets stuck in the groove there and tricks the proximity sensor into thinking the phone is always close to something so it turns off the screen as it's meant to.
As for the issues you're having, I have a PVT-4 Desire as well and I've often found that I get odd little issues with otherwise solid ROMs that most folks dont seem to suffer from. I usually wind up doing a complete wipe/format and reinstall the ROM to ensure nothing has been left over from an older or other ROM that's causing issues and that normally fixes most my problems.

Well, I don't think the problem is related to that, because a friend of mine has the same problems, and has no PVT4 Desire...
could a slow SD Card or an app cause the problem?
I recently installed the new RunnyRom 6.0 ROM, so it is my current ROM. With the previous version, at random intervals, my phone would either freeze after doing some simple task such as turning on the mobile network or just at random. At other times, the phone would not respond after the screen goes blank.
I am at my wits end and might end up throwing my phone at a wall. I've tried increasing the minimum CPU speed to no avail and other remedies from googling.
Must I buy a new phone? (my warranty is up btw, so I can't send it away back to HTC or the store I bought it from)
Before you say you are at your wits end, have you even tried flashing an entirely different rom to see if the issue presents itself again?
via xda app
Or a faster sd-card !
do you have ext on your sdcard and some kind of app2ext script?
Something like this?
It's a combination of sd card, sd-ext scripts running on it and bad reception. For me, the only ROM that doesn't have this problem is RSK v6.

I have, that's the reason I went from CM7 to Oxygen and back to Sense.

I think this could be the problem, but I'll need to buy another card today to see. As for some reason my current card keeps getting errors when I connect it to my pc.

I believe RunnyRom v6 has that.

I will try to switch back to CM7/Oxygen and see if the problems persist with the same frequency.
Go back to CM7 than Oxygen to test. Oxygen uses a script if an ext partition is detected. You wanna try and see if your phone will work well without any ext partition and CM7 doesn't support it out of the box.
Or if you can't help not having ext partition because of your apps, how about you format your sd card, repartition and start fresh.
via xda app
So as I did a full wipe and reinstalled CM7, lo and behold, the phone freezes on me in the 4ext recovery screen. Wiped again and tried to reinstall RunnyRom, same thing.
Seems like hardware issue if you get freezes even on recovery. You can flash a stock rom as a last verification but since you don't have warranty you might as well consider it as a reason to get a new phone.
There's the HTC One series or if you can still wait a bit longer, Galaxy S III is about to make a debut this May.

I think I will need to settle for something a bit cheaper.
However, I have noticed that if my mobile network is on, most times it will freeze my phone if I use any app that uses internet such as Whatsapp, facebook or Google+. Not sure if that might be relevant. (I am on a CM7 ROM and it still freezes so it is most definitely a hardware problem I would agree with).
I had a similar problem with my HTC Desire. I was on the road a lot and noticed that when I came near certain areas, my phone froze. I think it was because of a bad radio or something like this.
Does it happen when you are in airplane mode?
I flashed the new CM9 and the problem stopped.
Alternatively, it didn't happen with the sandvold-ICS.
Have you tried flashing with a new SD-Card?

Never tried it with airplane mode on. There's less freezing with MildWild 4.4 but occasionally it will freeze.
I had this issue once with ics and drewis kernel, on tiamat no problems at all
From using Mildwild 4.4 I've realized that when my phone rings, the ringtone will not play and if I answer it as soon as the call ends the screen will not wake up. If I ignore the call and open any application, the phone will freeze. In both cases I will need to remove the battery.
Sometime fixing permissions from recovery sorts out freezing issues

Tried that too. No major change.
same exact problem, i'm running runnymede AIO, phone freezes often, especially when i'm at home where signal is not good.
i've got the feeling is mainly related to whatsapp, but it's just a feeling.
phone usually freezes when i wake it up from standby, the lockscreen ring does not respond.
it never freezes when in airplane mode.
i think i'll try a different phone part, then a different rom, it's a pity since this one performs really well for my needs.
sorry for my english, if i fix this i'll post here, cheers.

I think my problem was mainly the sd card as it deleted all of my photos and then randomly stopped reading in my phone.
I switched sd cards and ROMs and so far no freezes.

well, might be, but i'd find strange, mine is a brand new samsung class 6.
but i'll give it a try when i can.
Completely stock 4.16.401.10
Whenever I reboot my phone, any apps that I've, previously, moved to the external sd card disappear from the homescreen.
The apps are still in app drawer and run ok, but I've got to drag them back to the homescreen.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks.
PS, no issues with pics or any other "stuff" stored on card.
I've no solution. Just to say I'm having the same issue

Don't know if this cured it but it doesn't do it now. I moved all my apps to internal storage because I was, also, having issues when updating apps stored on external card.
Moving apps to internal solved the updating issues and nothing disappears from home screen on reboot.
Might be a coincidence but no issues now.
I had the same problem, but found the issue. Latest HTC Lock Screen update is the culprit. Uninstall update from HTC Lock Screen and your problem will be gone.

Seems like they fixed this issue in the update from 06/11.
There are many folder on my home screen but every time I power off my phone only one folder disappear. Besides, the same folder disappear every times, the left are appear normally.
Forget to tell that I use the original rom from Thailand.

Are you using the HTC widget? I've noticed using that, the folders I create often disappear.

What do you mean?
The widget on the home screen?
Yes, the clock and power toggle. However, before I did the factory reset my m8 did not has this problem.
The issue is with HTC Lock Screen which is clashing with apps moved to SD card. Uninstall update from HTC Lock Screen and your problem will be solved.
