[Q] Please Help!!! - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay well today I flashed MIUI 1.6.10 Both OsiMood's and MIUI.us. I was messing around and I noticed Theme Manager wasn't working. The stock theme that came with MIUI 1.6.10 was horribly ugly, and thought I why not flash back to MIUI 1.5.20. So I did and I flashed without wiping like I normally do when a MIUI Rom comes out. I then noticed Theme manager wasn't working on that version either so I restored my backup that I created before I flashed over from 1.6.10 to 1.5.20 and now my phone won't read the apps on my SDcard. Please help me I don't want to do any super wipes or anything and lose my app datas. All the apps show up on the home screen but they don't have the original images and when I click them they say "Application not installed on your phone." How would I get the rom to read the apks off my sdcard that I previously installed or how can I fix this. Any suggestions would help. Thanks ahead :'(

For some odd reason when I reinstall the app from the market the data still seems to exist but it creates another apk on my phone leaving me 2 apps of the same kind. If it is any help I flashed from a higher build of MIUI to a lower without flashing. How could I fix!? :'(

Can anybody help with this issue.. Please I'm crying right now b/c I can't find a way around.. :'(

stop crying. superwipe, install new rom and use your titanium backup to restore apps and data....

Wow dude really... I know if that was me I would be freaking out its an expensive phone and some of us don't have the luxury to just buy another one . But to OP just try Superwipe and if that doesn't work maybe your sd card fried but I doubt that but just to make sure see if your computer can r/w to the sd card..
Edit: when you use superwipe it doesn't wipe the data from your SD card so all your apps you backed with titanium backup will still be there? Their? They're? I'm pretty sure is there... there..

Rom flashing?

Sounds like a noob question probably beasty it is. When I want to flash I new rom do I have to delete the old one off my sd card? And I should probably doo a nandroid backup..
Swyped from my HTC EVO 4G via xda app
Definitely yes on backup and about deleting old one no you don't have to, but you can if you need the space on your sdcard.
Oh okay, I need a good rom our at least a kernal for saving battery. Only getting about 5-7 moderate usage.

definately do a back up. you dont have to back up every rom you use but make sure you at least have one. and make sure that it works. and for the old rom. no you dont have to delete it of the sdcard. it is not like pc36img.zip where it will ask to update every time it sees it on the memory card. i have seperate folders on my sdcard for roms, kernels, themes, .apks and etc..makes my sdcard look a little cleaner.
Can someone clarify the best way to back up AND restore a ROM?
I see a lot of people mention to do a nandroid backup, isn't using ROM manager or TitaniumBU just as good???
I'm getting a bit confused on the best [most reliable] method so if someone can clarify that'd be great.

Check the walk-through in my sig, it might help you out (that whole thread is useful too).

Well I know that you should do a nandroid backup before flashing a rom. Titanium backup helps a lot. Back up your contacts by going to phone> people> export to sd card. I still question how to remove a zipped mod though.

Titanium backup isn't a nandroid backup. It backs up the apps and some data from the phone. It is useful when you do a factory wipe or wipe all data to install new Rom. Just back up apps and such with titanium backup, wipe, flash, download titanium backup again from market and reinstall apps.
Rom manager is good. It does make nandroid backups of of the Rom you are currently on. But it does not back up the apps when switching from Rom to Rom.
Hope that helped.

Well if you want to keep the roms on your sdcard then that is fine. Just keep them there and flash them when you want. Now if you mean just flashing from Rom to Rom then you don't have to delete the old Rom to flash a new one. Or like if you want to flash a kernel just flash from recovery. Just be sure if you are going to be flashing from Rom to Rom or a new kernel or what not make sure you wipe data, dalvik and other caches from recovery. and make sure that you make at least one nandroid backup. And make sure that it works.

And as far as miui with front cam, i believe with the new version the front cam is working. Just nandroid and flash and enjoy.

I'll take your word for that. But im on 2.2 and had 2.1 and on both of them the front cameras worked fine. Maybe camera support in GB for tablets? Idk, I just know my front camera works fine, dont you have an evo you can test and see for yourself?
Edit: I saw your location of Budapest, so ya you probably dont have an EVO, well take my word for it then, it works.

Ok first yes do a nandroid BACKUP before you flash the new MIUI. After you flash it, do not do a nandroid RESTORE (two different things. Im sure you know, just make sure and specify you know )
To get your apps back you have to use titanium backup. But only restore apps and app data, not system data (unless your titanium backup is from an miui rom.). If you would do a nandroid restore after flashing the update. You would cancel out your update and youd be on the miui version you had before you flashed the update. And youd be right back where you started. Also I think the miui rom has its own backup app. Not sure how to use it, but maybe search around for info on that

First, get the paid version of Titanium and the restore will take no time at all. If it isn't available where you are you may be stuck with restoring an app at a time. Also, you will only have to do that once if you flash MIUI. After that you can use the backup options which are integrated into the ROM and backup/restore most apps (occasionally an app that resides on the SD, such as Angry Birds has some challenges restoring, but you could use Titanium basic for just those difficult apps.)
Next, go to MIUI-devs and look at this thread. Read the OP in its entirety. There you will find links to the latest build as well as all of the options separately, including a zip for getting FFC (which unfortunately will cause you to lose some other options, but it comes down to figuring out what is most important to you personally.)
If you still have questions, search MIUI-devs forum and/or ask for help. XDA is great, especially for discussion and some help, but even with Tyzing trying to keep it up to date here, it is still a bit behind on the latest fixes/downloads.

Actually, the latest update (1.5) works on MIUI. They made changes specifically for the ROM.
Open RC, go to "Options" and check "Disable ROM detection". You can see explanation on the "About" tab.
ok but back to the front facing camera a no go or is there a fix?
From when i last used the rom about a month ago no it didnt work but they dobhave weekly updates.
You can use vigenette i alrwady had so i use it as primary works with front cam on miui

I know this won't necessarily help you, but I'm using 1.2.25, and my front camera works just fine. What hardware version do you have? 004 hardware seems to have problems with AOSP working with the camera.
Also, did you do a complete wipe or did you flash over an older build? If you flashed over a build, try it after a complete wipe (obviously, back up your current setup in case it doesn't work; you don't want to start from scratch for no reason). If you restored any system data, that could also be the problem. When you start from a complete wipe, restore only apps from Titanium. If you want to backup and restore MIUI system data, use the included MIUI Backup (I use it for both system data and apps, and even though it's slow as hell, I haven't had any problems using it).
I hope this post was useful. Good luck.

To get to ffc using video:
Switch from camera to video
Press video quality (the word, "high" or the button on the far left)
Choose "Custom"
NOW, press menu-switch to front.
Once it started force closing, it was near impossible for me to get it to work, but try clearing data via application manager or reinstalling the app.

Before you go to the trouble of flashing it in Odin, try doing a full factory reset ....
Factory reset won't bring it back. That just clears data of everything on the phone.. but since its deleted, it ain't gonna come back.
Do the Odin flash. Easiest thing, will be back to stock. I just really did mines yesterday .. because bugged me that someone I got airpush notification and I have a habbit of the littlest thing PC or phone to just reformat

Not really a big upgrade... just a new modem and completely removed carrier iq... new call screen... just flash one of the el30 custom roms and try it out... I'm running sleeper... cm9 is AMAZING though and if you haven't tried it I suggest you do... viper rom is also planning on releasing an aosp ics rom too! Epic is getting some love from the devs these days! Just make a backup of your current setup and flash away... if you don't like it, your current setup is just a restore away!

thanks i did it. but i miss my legendary. which one are you running? would i be able to ask qbking 77 what he is running. or is that a rule that we cant ask?
another question
it may be a dumb one. but when i restore my app. and i move them back to my sd card is the app being double? or is it just replacing the app from before?

AFAIK, the app is not "doubled" but moved from the internal memory to the SD card, or at least as much is possible to be moved
If unsure, check your internal space before moving the app, and then after, and you should see additional space on the internal after the moving of the APP to the SD card
To answer both your questions qbking77 is currently running CM9 but changes often to make videos so may be on 5 different ROMs in one day.
If your apps are in the system\app folder it replaces them. If your app is somehow in the \data folder and you flash something that adds it to the system folder you will have 2 copies.

thanks again. with the rom you running do all your apps work? i have the rom on my sd card. have not flash it not sure if all the apps will still work. i have cm9 on my touchpad. just waiting on the fixes to hit.
and on question i know it is a noob question. but how can i change my signature. lol

If you are talking about restoring Game Data. Then what you may want to try is to install the Game. Open up My Backup Pro, and restore your game data. I would suggest trying this one app at a time.
Ya that's all I'm trying to do is mostly get data like from go launcher, games and some utility apps thers 237 of them and to the previous post ya it only crashes when I restore apps then have to resort to factory restore and nandroid restore which restore of the nandroid works perfect

237 Ummmm.... I think it may be time to do some house cleaning. Restoring Data from that many apps is bound to cause some issues. Especially if done all at once. I would suggest only doing one, or two at a time. That easy it will help narrow issues down if they occur. Also I would suggest not restoring data from Go Launcher. I've seen that cause issues.
