So I've been making attempts at replacing my shutdown animation (on Evil's Sense G2-Z ROM), but have been having troubles.
I've created a shutdown animation at the same resolution as the original, and put that into a downanimation.zip with folder "android" and desc.txt, which sets the parameters for the shutdown animation (the downanimation.zip goes into /system/customize/resource). The desc.txt is the exact same as that in the original downanimation.zip. As far as I can tell, the only differences between my downanimation.zip and the original is file size (their images are very plain, whereas mine are a bit more detailed) and the timestamp.
Now here's where it gets really quite weird. If I edit one image and replace it from the original shutdown animation, it stops working. Which made me think that there's something messed up with how I'm zipping my files. BUT if I change the name of my downanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip (in the same folder as downanimation.zip), and reboot my phone, my shutdown animation works just fine as the startup animation.
So. Anyone have any ideas how to change the shutdown animation, or on what I'm doing wrong?
What are you using to zip the files?

Yemuzip on OS X.
have you found a solution yet?
ive done the same thing, encountered a weird problem tho.
it only accepts a zip which is set to store not compressed for boot but shutdown none works.. i wonder if it is the file size that is the issue or something else.
if i changed the shutdown/downanimation i cannot boot into bootloader "pwr+vol down" on desire HD. have to boot to clockwork and adb shell rm /system/customize/resources/shutdown.zip/downanimation.zip and then it can boot into bootloader again but shutdown/restart screen would be blank.. weird.

Yes all guides I've seen say that the bootanimation.zip on the Desire HD (/data/local/) needs to be zipped without compression (using "store" method of compression). I would assume it's safe to do the same thing for the shutdown animation. Thanks for the folder where the shutdown animations are stored on the Desire HD. I was having a little trouble finding it as it's different from other android phones. Just a spelling error though, it's /system/customize/resource/ not "resources"
SOLVED here. Tq.
Im running CM 6.1.1-Stable with pershoots kernel (rooted via gfree method) and I am trying to use the Droid X boot animation on my phone. However, I keep getting the default android bootanimation with silver text with the word "android" and some intermittent shining of the text.
I downloaded the bootanimation from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710204
I copied both the audio and the bootanimation.zip files to /system/media according to these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9118652&postcount=12
It erases the cyanogenmod boot animation, but instead i get the default silver android text bootanimation. I tried deleting the system/media/bootanimation.zip file and placing the new bootanimation.zip and audio in /data/local but this resulted in the same default bootanimation.
Am I missing something here? Most people seem to be able to easily change their bootanimation by pushing the file to /data/local, but for me, the cyanogenmod bootanimation in /system/media seems to take priority. Either way, pushing the bootanimation to either /system/media or /data/local is not working. Any ideas?
Also, do I need to do anything special to get the droid sound to work besides pushing it along with the bootanimation.zip file?
Anyone? Id really appreciate any insight that can be offered!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
it's because the first link is for changing the boot animation
the second link is for changing the splash image
you need to find the directions for overwriting the bootanimation, not the splash image.
fwiw, i was looking for the instructions when i found this thread
here's the instructions you're looking for

Are you doing an ADB Remount? Try this:
Code:
adb devices
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
If it doesn't work for the /data/local then do the following:
Code:
adb devices
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
NOTE: I put it in the code box because essentially that's what it is. Make sure when you do the ADB Push you put the full file path where the bootanimation.zip is located
Reboot the phone to see if it takes the change. Either that, or you can always try an ADB Shell > bootanimation. This will show the boot animation, and then just CTRL + C to stop it. But if the ADB shell doesn't show it, definitely try a reboot and let us know.
Good luck
Still the same

I have exactly the same problem with my desire S. Nothing seems to be working apart from the regular android animation (not even the original rom animation which i re copied). Was this ever solved?
Alright starting to get a bit frustrated while trying to put a downanimation on my DHD. I know in Sergio stated in his FAQ that the downanimation and bootanimation can now be found in /data/local and I really liked the coredroid bootanimation but wanted to use my bios one to go with my windows troll splash img.
Anyway I have converted the coredroid boot into a downanimation by changing images from jpg to png and then using the method found in Monx®'s thread to make sure it was zipped properly. But just comes up with a blank screen on reboot or shutdown.
Tried a couple of others and still get a blank screen, so just wondering if any1 else has the same problem?
it comes blank because zip file aint properly zipped... did u changed compression method to store in winrar ? or just send me the stuff and i will get it done for you and save u the hassel
Edit : oh snapp.. just noticed.. the file you pushed to data/local is it named bootanimation or downanimation ? if its downanimation.. then rename it to bootanimation... downanimations are not in data/loca

Thanks for the quick reply. I have attached my coredroid downanimation.zip which I had renamed to downanimation.zip before pushing it. As i said, I made sure compression was set to store.
I first pushed this to /data/local as it says to in Scabes' Coredroid FAQ

Not a reboot cycle, just wont turn off. I can use the phone but when I try to turn off the phone with power button to either shutdown or reboot, I get blank screen where down animation should b, give it a few seconds and straight away bootanimation comes up with out my splash image.
Used recovery and I'm back to my last backup before I started playing around with with boot/down animations and circle battery mod. Then push bootanimation back now that works.
Have yet to retry the downanimation yet.
Also just wondering does downanimation images have to be .png? or can they be jpg

i wanted to do it for ya but too many pics in the zip.. gona take me long time but im really busy sorry... but lemme make you a quick guide...
1. change all the pics to .png format
2. rename the pics to the name of the folder.. in ur case folder is coredroid so name the pics to coredroid_01.png to everyone just change the numbers to the count of the pics
3. after u do that put coredroid folder and desc.txt in one folder.. now zip these two files.. tip zip and compression to store in winrar ... then do the same again tip zip. then chagne to store.. but then in the uper tabs click on files.. and then below see file paths.. change it to donot store file paths..
4. now double click the zip file to open with winrar... and delete all the pics except coredroid folder and desc.txt.. make sure .zip is renamed to downanimation.zip if it isnt already
5. get root explorer and paste it to where ever ur downanimation.zip is and Hoalah!!! Njoy
Well i have a rooted HTC Desire and its on MIUI-XJ 1.4.29 2.3.3 Gingerbread and it is rooted.
Im wondering how to change the boot animation. The "Theme Manager" seems to not find .ZIP's so i got the Boot Animation Changer from Applanet and it doesn't seem to import animations.
So if anyone can help me change boot animations.
If I'm not wrong, the bootanimation for the MIUI rom is placed in /system/media, so use adb or root explorer and simply place the zip file there
hey there!
I tried to change my bootanimation on 2.3.4 with the latest speedmod kernel ( kernel k15h t23), but instead of a new animation i got an bootloop showing the android logo.
i have copied my bootanimation.zip to system/media but the boot process stops as i saw an android logo. after reflashing i tried to copie the bootanimation to data/local (i read something about that place in different forums) but it crashes aswell at the android logo.
i put the bootanimation in the attachments and hope someone could help me!
thanks!
Did you try it with a supported Rom?
extract and push this file in your /system/lib folder
sometimes bootanimation binary are fu**ed up by rom cookers
he is using the stock rom
you can try to push the animation in /data/local/
EDIT: Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078743&highlight=bootanimation

To be sure i tried to copy the bootanimation that you've given me to data/local and got the same result.
boot process stops a an "android" logo apperars.
- this is not the android logo like that one in the postet thread but the default one.
now i going to try system/lib (after reflashing everything)
regards
EDIT:
I cant put anything into the /system/lib folder - it says there is not enough space.
try to remove some bloatware or ringtone that you don't use and try again.
The system is near factory default.
Only Speedmod with root and root explorer are installed...
System has 120 K free.
I dont know what is deletable.
But i could see bootsamsung.qmg in system/media
any ideas to get an custom bootanimation work?
thanks!
I had the same problem. Probably speedmod doesn't fit perfectly with custom bootanimations. Or maybe the rom, but if you have stock and i have sensation rom, i think the problem is kernel.
If you are interested in bootanimation i suggest you to use talondev; with that kernel i never had any problem with bootanim.
