Hi guys I have a Ginberbreak rooted 2.3.2 Xperia Arc with locked bootloader, the 2.3.3 update is available via SEUS and PC Companion, but if I go to Settings -> About phone -> Software Update, when I tap software update it says "Only mobile networks available for software update". The point is that I want to OTA update it, to keep the phone rooted as updating with SEUS or PC Companion will unroot it and gingerbreak doesn't work on 2.3.3. I have a strong connection to Wi-Fi, but it just doesn't want to update OTA, giving me the error I said. Please guys help me update it OTA!
I used flashtool and put 181 firmware on then rooted with gingerbreak the did ota update but I used my gf sim card which was t-mobile for the update and it worked reason I didn't use my 3 sim card is cause they was a problem and couldn't connect to network done know why but look in development and did it way I did im on 145 now and still rooted

I flashed it too with generic world (.181) and uk(.184) as I read on this forum that it works too but I still get that error. So I must have a britain SIM now to make it work? If yes, will it work if I find a RO firmware since I have a Vodafone RO SIM? Or do I need a SIM with network access to update? But I heard that it works with wifi and in no SIM mode. When I bought my Arc I think it had a DE firmware since on my box it says something about DE above the IMEI code barcodes, and when I powered on my phone, the default language was german and I also had some apps from T-Mobile and the default browser's home page was unchanchable from T-Mobile. I think the phone was imported from Germany. I live in Romania, and as I said, the update is available on PC Companion and SEUS. Please help me I really need to update it OTA to keep the root since gingerbrwak doesn't work on 2.3.3 and I want fixed wifi connection and hd recording too.

Later Edit: Or if you find a way to make adb work in USB Tethering mode, it will be perfect because I want to reverse USB tethering witout having a rooted phone using adb shell, the command I need to make it work is adb shell netcfg usb0 dhcp, wich returns with the error action 'dhcp' failed (permission denied), but on the phone I can use it successfully. I just need root to be able to use that command. To reverse the USB tethering I just have to connect the phone in USB tethering mode, bridge network connections and use that command on the pc(adb shell netcfg usb0 dcp) or on the phone (su -> netcfg usb0 dhcp). By the way I'm going to buy a wifi router soon so I won't need that command anymore... so I'm going to update it. Thanks anyway.
*bump* anyone please? I still need root and OTA update doesn't want to work.
wtihin the software update menu - there's a "network" option.. select that and change it to "Wifi and Mobile networks"..
Then try again with the "update now" option
I didn't had that menu but I reflashed it wiping all the user data and now I se it but when I try to update it says "Could not connect to network". How can I solve this now???
If you're on 2.3.2 just keep trying, eventually it will download. Was on .2 and immediately had an ota upgrade, re-flashed to .2 to root and it took 2 hours of constant attempts before it would connect properly using wifi...

So you just retried when getting "Could not connect to network"? Oh and did you had a SIM card inserted? And wich setting did you used? WiFi Only or WiFi & Mobile networks?
Well the way u put should work mate im from UK too but just try different sim cards cause like I said my 3 sim card didnt work but t-mobile one did

I'm not from UK, I just said that I flashed also the UK firmware. I am from Romania, but someone told me that he updated without any sim card with the generic firmware that I tried too. So what do I have to do? Just to retry?
If u can try different sim cards. Mine kept saying cannot connect to network but tried different sim and worked other than that I dont think I can help
Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
But did you used 3G? Or WiFi?
Later Edit: Fixed. I set the language to English UK, inserted SIM card, had at last 50% battery and used WiFi & Mobile Networks (even if I don't have 3G) and now is downloading via WiFi. Thank you guys for helping me

Hi Frineds,
Sorry for my poor English.. I have a very strange problem after updating new firmaware on my Arc. When i flash new firmaware, my phone doesn't connect to network. I get an error that "sim card preventing to connect with network". I have tried everything but always get this error with new firmaware. Therefore i am still on .145. I have unlocked bootloader, so i use FlashTool. I have tried Global Generic & Nordic versions of new firmaware.
Am i the only one having this problem? Can someone think of any possible reason for that? Any idea?
+1 I am Spanish and I have a Vodafone mobile
Does anyone know any possible reason? Any suggestion, please?
I updated my bro's Arc with FlashTool & he has not any problem with network.. I used my sim card in his Arc & it worked like a charm. What's wrong with my Arc?

Are you preserving your data on flashing? If so that might be the reason.

No, data wiped But Thanks Harfot you tried to help me out
I was also having trouble with flashing as follows,
After flashing (not wiping user data) generic 4.0.A.2.368 followed by DooMKernel v02 the hole lot was working - not very well but working. Problem was I was not able to install neither BusyBox nor APP2SD.
This was followed by 2 more tries flashing but it never worked but I was shure it could work.
So I flashed the original 3.0.A.2.181, used GingerBreak to root and installed BusyBox. It worked.
Then I again flashed generic 4.0.A.2.368 followed by actual DooMKernel. It worked and BusyBox was still working. Then I installed APP2SD and on reboot that part worked also. At last I restored my user apps with Titanium and the were all moved to the new ext3 partion on the SD card.
Later I have flashed the latest two DooMKernels without any problems.
It might be worth for you to try reflashing.
Reflashing the firmware should solve your problem.
Thanks Harfot & Xtacy! i have actually reflashed my phone multiple times.
1) First Global Generic with FlashTool..
2) Tried Again Global Generic with Flashtool (Without Sim Card in Mobile)
3) Tried WotanServer & flashed Nordic version..
4) Re-locked bootloader & flashed again Global Generic
5) Flashed Nordic Telia version
6) Re-locked bootloader again & changed customization number to Telia Sweden & flashed through SEUS
7) Falshed UK Generic
And result is the same: No network connection
Do you have the possibility to try with another SIM card?
I relocked bootloader today & flashed phone through SEUS first. When i started phone, i got network connection but after just 5 minutes disconnected again & nothing helped. I repaired phone with PC Companion but result is the same..
When i say network connection, i mean GSM Connection.. I can't get GSM connection & therefore can't call someone or send sms..
@Harfot: First i used my SIM in my bro's Arc which is on newest firmaware, I got GSM connection on his Arc with my Sim card.. (Nothing wrong with my sim?)
Then i used his sim card (it was from another operator) in my flashed Arc (on .368) & didn't get any problem, got GSM connection :-/ Now i am confused. My sim card & my phone don't like each other or what?

Well, now I am puzzled too.
Try cleaning contacts in phone and suface of sim (no liquid). Try pressing sim card firmly when booting phone.
The solution for me was to change the SIM
@Harfot: Thanks, I'll try again tonight & will follow your suggestion
@neoduende: Thanks, I have actually ordered my service provider to send a new sim card
Hello everybody,
I have a carrier unlocked Xperia Arc. I had flashed .58 firmware, which I had rooted with Zegrush method (bootloader is locked). It was working fine for a few days, then suddenly the 3G stopped working. I am still getting the EDGE (2G) data transfer.
Since my SIM when inserted into my friends Samsung i9003 was giving a good 3G connection and also my friends SIM when inserted into my Xperia Arc was unable to connect through 3G, I thought that the fault was in my Xperia Arc only.
I have
1) Checked APN settings, they are fine. Downloaded and installed them again to be doubly sure.
2) Did a soft reset
3) Did a hard reset
4) Used repair through PC companion
5) flashed .62 firmware with accompanying baseband
6) flashed .42 firmware with accompanying baseband
7) checked network mode. Its WCDMA(preferred)/GSM. On switching to WCDMA, the 3G connection works for a few minutes and then the whole connection drops.
8) I read in some discussion boards that a similar problem arises if the SIM card lock is used but I am not using it.
Is it a hardware defect? Should I unlock the bootloader and flash one of the custom ROMS?
Any other suggestions?
Please help.
Thanking in advance.
call your network provider and say your problem, if they cant solve your problem or says everything is ok then contact sony ericsson repair center.
Hi guys
After an operator unlock processing (Wotanserver) this Lt18i Arc S refuses to conect to any operator.
"Could not conect to selected network"
Already do a factory reset, installed an official update, tested with some Sim cards and no card allow to conect to the operator.
Does anyone knows a way to restore the mobile phone?
Many thanks
You'll need to contact them if reflashing a stock ROM is still giving the error.
Finnaly i got a reply. They suggested to try again the same process. Now aparently the operator is unlocked (in service menu the "operator" option is 0) and the bootloader is unlocked.
Moderator you may close this thread. Many thanks
Just wondering if anyone has a z1c which they purchased from the 3 network in the UK? Is so then presumably the 4g option is available under network settings? If so can someone create an ftf of the 3 firmware? I have an unlocked phone with a 3 sim card and the 4g option is not available nor are there any software updates available via pccompanion or ota so I'd be interested in flashing the 3 firmware to see if it resolves the issue.
Thanks
Tony

if 4g option is not available check ur variant model.
d5503 or d5502?
if ur device is lte variant and have problem with lte option try to repair ur firmware instead of flashing another firmware
if it not solve ur problem then u can search for flashable modem or another firmware
:good:
Definitely D5503 version. I've spoken to 3 UK and they've told me to wait for a software update from Sony. There is however no software update available for my phone - it's still on the original UK generic jb firmware 114 and I'm aware others have received two updates already following this version. I thought getting hold of the 3 UK Firmware might speed the process up :0)

Did LTE work on your previous phone? Some carriers require a new SIM card for LTE (like Orange in my country).

A new sim card may well be my next step however 3 state that its not necessary and should just require a firmware update. My previous phone was an Xperia T, I swapped to the Z1c so i'd have 4G capability! I may try upgrading to the .681 kitkat firmware first using the uk generic FTF available from these forums but I was just curious to know if anyone has purchased a Z1c direct from 3 and whether they have similar issues.

Tony
Have you tried dialling *#*#4636#*#* and then go to Phone Info, then scroll to the bottom (to the drop-down) and see if you are able to choose LTE/GSM/WCDMA (PRL) ?

Yes I've tried that. There are LTE options available in that menu but when I choose one and go back to the main settings the network mode has changed back to wcdma (preferred)/gsm.

If your SIM Card is old then you'll need a new one, I did for O2 so would imagine it's the same for most networks.

Just a minor question.
Do you have 4G coverage in your area?
I've just put my bro's sim card(3 network)
And the 4G option is available umder network settings, however there is no 4G in this area for Three.
REKOGNÍZED KONYHABÚTOR
Don't have 4g on the area I live at the moment but what started this whole thing off was that I was away with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago and she had 4g (iPhone 5s) and I didn't - both on the 3 network.

Ok so I tried flashing the ftf of the UK generic firmware and the LTE option has now appeared. Obviously the update was required but for some reason Sony didn't want to give it to me by Ota or pccompanion! Anyway problem solved.

Hey guys,
yesterday my phone got updated to the 3.23 Version. Since then my phone is getting no signal to my provider nor mobile network.
I tried WIPE USER DATA which also doesnt work. The sim works fine in my iphone xs...
I also tried to manually apply APN settings.
After i plug in the SIM card it asks for my pin. I enter the pin and it unlocks the SIM but no signal.
I only get a Question Mark at the Status Bar.
Do you guys have any similar problems?
Greetings from Germany

then maybe EU problem... any EU users here?
I updated yesterday & have signal (in Poland).
I suggest that you try to manually switch the network type in settings, to 4G/3G/2G.

just flash qsn file by qpst
1- make backup qsn
2- restore qsn
