titanium backup problem - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if any of you guys have ran across this. I updated my rom (Full wipe) its evervolv. I used TB (Pro) to back everything up. So when I try to restore it, it restores the apps, but fails on data. I've updated Busybox, fix permissions, I'm not sure what else to do. Any Ideas?

Yep. Don't do data, regardless. Pretty much every dev advises against it, (at the least I haven't found one who doesn't). Just think about it for a second. What is the point of doing a full wipe, and then restoring data? Personally, I don't restore any apps, either, and I've had very, very few problems, and most of those were known bugs.

I do it for my saved stuff. Not system data.

Have you tried restoring just app & data on specific apps? Say for something like Handcent - the app and your settings will come back (not your messages - that's a different gig). Or maybe a game of yours and your settings. Try a couple individually to see if it makes a difference.
Good luck!

I have tried a few random apps. Tried installing app, then data, tried both. Still notta. Makes me sad. First time with flashing any roms with having issues.

Titanium no longer restoring apps on CM7

I back up all my apps with Titanium prior to any update of CM7 nighties. My issues its after upgrading nighties I lose apps, no biggie, I backed them up with Titanium. Every time I restore the missing apps Titanium says "restore unsuccessful". Only way restoring apps works for me is if I do a full wipe every update. This is a pain! Any one else having this issue and have did you solve it, minus wiping every time?

It sounds like you're having a bigger issue, that also leads to not being able to restore apps.
The fact that you're losing apps when upgrading nightlies in incorrect. Flashing a nightly .zip doesn't overwrite anything but the system, which leaves everything else in tact. Not sure exactly what that issue would be, but I don't think TB is the problem.

The one and only time I've tried to use TiB, it failed; I messaged the dev and reported it to the support forum (which doesn't even exist anymore) and never got a reply. Waste of money, at least for me.

Very surprising. I've been using it for almost a year now, quite frequently, with no issues.

Just a hunch, are the apps you're restoring stored on the SD card? (a2sd)
If so, that might be the problem.

All browsers but Opera Mini Force Close

Title says it all. Since formatting my phone as ext4 and flashing CyanogenMod 7.2, no browsers - the preinstalled Browser or Opera Mobile - will work. Browser just FCs when it reaches somewhere around 90%, while Opera Mobile won't load past the splash page (it doesn't make it to the speed dial).
Oddly enough, however, Opera Mini works fine, albeit a little slowly.
On another note, I've also been having permission issues while installing Adobe Flash, whereas before using CM I had no problems.
Might the two issues be related?

Try fixing permissions from CWM

Great, now the browsers work fine, though I had to reinstall my apps because they were force closing.
But now my home button doesn't work - at all - and my lockscreen seems to have vanished; it's not on Quick Unlock, not even CM Settings seems to realize it's not there anymore.

You may backup and do a clean install, download again to ensure theres nothing wrong, and look if its fixed

Well, nuts. I was hoping not to have to do that, but okay.
By the way, this may sound silly, but how, exactly, do you do a back up? I'm guessing you need an application like Titanium Backup? (And if that's exactly what I need, do I need the premium version?)
Sent from my GT-S5660 using XDA
You can use titanium backup, but I recommend nandroid backup from recovery, however you can restore the full rom, settings etc, but cant restore apps only or something.. So you can use both

This is just getting stupid.
I backed up my apps+data with Titanium Backup, then the whole system with NANDroid. I suspected the latter wouldn't do anything useful, as it saves an image of the current state of the system, so if I was having trouble, what good would it do? But I restored via Recovery anyway, and, as I thought, it didn't change a thing.
So then I wiped everything all over again (and even reformatted with ext4-formatter.zip) including the two caches, reinstalled CM 7.2, applied the patch (which I didn't do before and is for the previous version of the ROM) and restored everything with Titanium Backup. It advised me to reboot, because Android thought there was little space left, and so I did.
Before I go any farther, let me just say that I restored ALL apps+data, not just the ones that were missing.
Moving on...
After the reboot, everything seemed fine (except I had to generate a new password for my Google account, as I use 2-step verification, but it makes sense as some of the apps didn't match up with the previous password).
But then, as I was changing some permissions for Adobe Flash player in Root Explorer, I noticed the home button had stopped working again. Before restoring, everything - and I mean everything - worked perfectly. So it's not CyanogenMod causing the problem, but an app or its data.
I will not vent my frustration here, but it looks like I'll have to start from scratch - for what seems like the 5th time now since getting into custom ROMs, which was only a few weeks ago - and reinstall all my apps. Including the Google ones, as apparently Market decides to let you choose which GApps to install for yourself (which is both a blessing - less bloat - and a curse - takes a lot longer).
Is there anything at all I can do to minimize the amount of time this is going to take?
Well, I've never heard of it before, so there is a problem causing this, on your phone.
I would suggest to go back to stock, do a fresh install, and think ablut apps that may be not able to trust its permissions...
It can be some sort of malware, but also just somethimg wrong flashed in /system
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Actually there's nothing wrong with my phone. I suspect that some data for a particular app was corrupted, but after yet another fresh install, everything works perfectly fine. I backed up everything with Titanium Backup so if anything goes wrong again I can restore from backups that I know work.
Thanks for the help.

[Q] CM 7.2 check. GAPPS check. Restore data- Kookoo for coco puffs. Help? :(

I have never been one to make an "oh my god help me" thread on a site like this. I thought I followed everything as it should have been done. But apparently not. Here's my story.
Flashed over CM 7.2 and the install went perfectly. I installed Google Apps and everything was fine. I then wanted all of my backed up apps and data back. So I went into CWM and told it to restore data. I rebooted, and dear god, everything is crashing. I get 15-30 force closes right off the bat, ADW is crashing, and things are going batcrap insane. Any idea what I did wrong or how to fix it? Thank you so much in advance for anyone with some wisdom on this topic.

I would start fresh again and use either TB or MyBackUp Pro, I use MyBackUp Pro and love it simple ui simplicity, restores apps, data including settings, sms, mms, contacts, etc....

Thanks for the super fast reply! Do you think I need to like... start OVER over? I guess this is a rhetorical question... I'm gonna wipe data and cache and whatnot, and restore data again before even rebooting the phone. I may have confused it by registering Google Play and downloading a couple of apps (Rom Toolbox and My Backup Pro) before restoring my data. Maybe I confused it... I'll report back my findings for anyone in the future who encounters this issue.

No but ODIN does help re fresh everything but not needed you can just wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset. And start from there.

Thanks for the help and suggestions! I fixed it. Factory reset, cleared cache and dalvik, and used Titanium to restore everything app by app. My Backup Root didn't work as well, since I couldn't go piece by piece. Thanks again, everything is working perfectly and I now know the joy of my first real ROM

What do you mean piece by piece?
The way I do it is install my backup and save the apk version so when I restore phone I download a file manager install and restore apps. When you backup apps you just save it as apks only. And save data and it restores properly. But whatever haha.

Well, it let me decide exactly which apps to restore, since I guess I had backed up so many times that I wouldn't have even had room... It allowed me to go app by app and decide which ones to restore, along with the respective data, as well as doing all the system data at once. It was really quite nice. But I was being stubborn and thought for some reason restoring from CWM was the best route, so thanks for the redirection
Your mistake was restoring data from a nandroid (CWM). It restores system data as well. Unless it is a known good nandroid and basically the same firmware (ie. Touchwiz EL30 to Touchwiz EL30, CM7 RC2 to CM7 RC3) you should not use that to restore data. Glad you got everything working again.

Many apps not working after a TiBu restore?

Hey guys.
I'm coming from a HTC One XL on att. Before switching over, I made a TiBu backup of all my user apps, created a flashable package, then flashed it on my GN2 with TWRP. I'm currently using the Jedi rom and any accompanying kernel it came with.
Many of my apps are now FCing. Some don't even launch, the restored apps at least. I tried wiping my caches and fixing permissions but it didn't help at all.
A lot of these apps have data that I don't want to lose from a clean install. Does anyone know what I can do to get em working?
Thanks!

I encountered this same issue when making a flashable zip from TB before moving from the stock ROM to The Hybrid ROM on my GN2. I flashed the ROM and then my TB zip via TWRP and upon boot I had 2 instant FCs and a lot of my apps didn't have their data associated with them. I found that by restoring the original native TB backup files using the TB app fixed the FCs and the certain apps that didn't have the backed up data now had it.
So, I'm not sure what the issue is with flashable TB zips on this device (or maybe it's only touchwiz based roms?) but the above is a work around.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Meh. I guess I'm going to have to try that when I get home from work.
Apps like Angry Birds Space don't even launch anymore, and some apps launch and work until I come to a certain segment and then they crash.
I unfortunately still have the original backup on my HOXL, so I guess I'm gonna grab it from there. All you did was restore data only, correct?
The exact steps I took after rebooting and still getting the FCs and missing data was a "Restore>Restore all apps with data" via TiBu and then a reboot for good measure, everything has worked with no issues since.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Ah alright, that's what I thought it would be. I definitely have to go try this when I get home.
Does anyone know if the .zip file TiBu creates is essentially the same format as a normal backup once it's extracted? Maybe I can extract it at work, then follow your steps?
It's probably better to just take a new backup on my old phone and use that though...lol
FCs are generally the result of improper permissions... did you try to fix permissions to see if that solved the FC? Perhaps the TiBU zip restore function does not reset/reverify correct permissions, while doing this from TiBU directly does... just a thought.
Yes, I tried fixing the permissions in TWRP, didn't do a thing :/
I had the same problem. I think I what I ended up having to do was install all of the apps (apps only!) by making a CWM flashable update.zip in TiBU, then restoring all of the data in TiBU. It was a pain in the ass getting all of my apps and data moved over from my old phone, which is surprising because TiBU usually works like a charm.
The thing is, my TiBu restore zip has apps + data.
If I just made a new backup on my old phone, and used that backup to restore all data (no apps) on the GN2, will it overwrite the old data? I'd hope it does.

[Q] Is anyone having App Restore Issues with Titanium Backup??

I Cannot restore an App (any App) AND I Cannot restore an App+Data using TB Pro version 6.0.2.1
I have been trying for a few days now. I have waited up to 20 minutes for Restores to complete. They DON'T. It just hangs. I have to use the phones Task manager to End Titanium Backup.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing TB several times with no luck..
The funny thing is If I download the App, I am trying to restore, from the Playstore I CAN restore that Apps data from the Backup I have in TB.. Restoring Data isn't an issue.
I have never had this problem with TB and I have been using it for years. Any Ideas on this?
I'm not having this issue with TB but try and clear data of TB by going into Application Manager. Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying AddisG,
Wiping Data did not work. I tried several times and also rebooted after a couple of times. I also wiped Cache and Dalvik Cache in TWRP Recovery. Doing that did not work also.
I noticed that even after uninstalling TB App and TB Pro Key the TB folder is still on my sdcard so when I re-install TB it uses the same "old" folder so I deleted the folder to get a "fresh start". That did not fix my issue either.
This is very perplexing. I have NEVER had an issue with TB before and it is now apparent that no other users are having this issue...
I'm running; teshxx T889UVALL4 Deodexed ROM (debloated by me) only MOD I've done is flash foreverloco [Theme] ASOP UALL4..
I am NOT suggesting the ROM or MOD (everything is running fine) is the issue, I'm just giving info... Could I have debloated something TB needs to perform it's restore operation?.. I must have borked something somewhere... Hopefully I can figure out what I did wrong so I can post it here and solve this Thread.
Have you tried pointing the app back to your sd card? Normally it uses internal storage but since you said tb folder is on sd card the app just isn't seeing it.
Sometimes just rebooting helps the app load the files.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
SOLVED!
My issue was that I needed to clear data in the Play Store App and accept Terms and get signed back in.
After doing that I went into TB's settings and used the Market Doctor option to re sync my user apps..apparently TB uses the App to be reinstalled Play Store link.
Thanks to all who replied.
