[Q] Getting force close messages - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have myn 2.2 installed and I'm not sure what happened.. last night was fine and all I did was wipe the dalvik cache and that went fine, however when my alarm went off this morning it got stuck and my only option was to reboot the phone and after it did I keep getting a force close message that will never go away.
:The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
What should I do?
*edit add the force close message application.clock to the list as well.

Try to fix permissions in rom manager.

[Q] Help!!! I think i bricked my phone

Okay, so i finally got my incredible rooted, and i installed cyanogen mod...but it wont finish booting, it keeps getting stuck at the Nexus boot animation and wont go beyond that
Did you use a hydra kernel?
Trust me, your not bricked. This happens to me several times a day.

Whoa...easy...let it boot. Sometimes the first boot when loading a fresh rom can take a long time.
I think he is describing a boot loop....and cm6 does take long to boot

Not that long.
Question, did you install the new hydra kernels?
Also, is it just hanging at the nexus logo or is it starting, stopping, and restarting;

Did you do a full wipe?
Go back into recovery...wipe cache and data and then load the cyanogen zip again.

It just keeps doing the nexus loop..and no i didnt clear anything...but i will try

In the main menu of ROM Manager > Backups and Restore > Choose your backup.

Interesting FC issue

Ok, so I am completely dumbfounded by this. Here's the problem. I download an app and in order to use it, I must uninstall then reinstall it. If I try to use it without reinstalling, it just force closes. If it doesn't force close, when I reboot my phone, I lose all the data in the app.
Also, today was trying to access my sound settings and the entire settings force closed. I managed to fix that by clearing the data of the settings within the application manager.
The weird thing is, its not just on one ROM. I have tried CM7 RC1 and RC2, SkyRaider Sense 3.5 and Virtuous 3.2.0
I am currently running SkyRaider. I have the latest recovery. I have tried to do a factory reset.
Any suggestions?

Is it a phone specific app?
HTCInc-redibly re-ENGINEERED
Its any app I download from the market. It even does it when I first flash a ROM with Gmail and Market. Then Gmail updates its fine.

Does it matter if its stored on sd? Is sd formatted FAT32?

Downgrade the recovery to the 2.x series.
Dinc running Magnolia 1.3/incedikernel/and BnB theme!
Yeah the SD card is formatted correctly. I have been using the same card since last July. And I don't have any apps on my SD card. I keep them all on my phone.
And I thought that you weren't supposed to use an older recovery?

UPDATE: I seemed to have fixed the problem. Insteadof doing a factory reset from the ROM, I did it from the recovery and it seemed to work. I'm still curiousas to what caused that to happen though...

Because a factory reset from the ROM doesn't wipe /system /cache /data, only your own information. You need to do a full wipe through recovery, just like you figured out
I had the same issue when I first moved to CM7 via ROM Manager. Once I followed the instructions at the start of the nightlies thread things have been perfect.

Vibrates Twice While Booting

So I Googled around and found nothing about this. My G2 has begun vibrating twice when it boots on the white HTC screen. I'm curious as to what is causing this. It didn't start until CM7 Stable. I flashed Virtuous and it did the same thing. Any ideas?

I had this problem when I flashed a new radio... I cleared my cache and dalvik cache through clockwork and the problem went away by itself
shouldn't hurt to try
I have the same double vibration. It all started on CM7. The only way I found I was able to get rid of it was to go to the stock rom and wipe cache, dalvik cache, and fix permissions. Then reinstall CM7.
I have the same double vibration now on CM7 since wiping the EFS partition for the GPS fix. I have tried wiping caches (including dalvik) and fixing permissions and it hasnt gone away. Too lazy to go back to the stock rom and "fixing" it.

1 do a nandroid backup
2 titanium backup (all apps + user data)
3 factory reset phone
4 download whatever rom you like (cm-7 stable for me) and flash
5 restore apps with tibackup (yay!)
no more double vibrations. it's the only thing that worked for me.
Hmm, I shall try these options. Thanks.

I'm having the same double vibration as well, and I wiped the EFS partition using that new SuperWipeG2 tool. Is there anything to be concerned about with the double vibration? Any idea what it means?
Well, I used SuperWipe+ and installed Virtuous. The double vibration went away when I rebooted and stuff. But when I put CM7 back on it came back. Oh well, I can live with it.

[Q] Stock dialer wont work on Starburst 1.7 ROM

I just installed Starburst on my phone and evertyhing works great with the exception of the default phone app. Whenever i try to launch it i just get a black screen then a popup saying the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly and it tells me to force close.
Anyone else ever get this and find a solution?
Sometimes the installation can go wrong. Juat wipe ecerything, THREE TIMES EACH, cacha, data, n dalvik. also download starburst 1.7 again (just in case), and flash it. U shud not have any issues.

I just flashed to version 1.8 after formating usb under storage then wiping data/cache/dalvik each 5x and am still getting the same force close on the stock dialer. Everything else works fine so i'll probably stick with this rom for a little bit.

com.android.phone keeps force closing

As the title states... Dialer keeps force closing.. Can't make or receive calls. Everything else works fine.. wifi and all apps... This started after I flashed CM7 kang 2. I have tried wiping phone and reinstalled Juggernaught but I still get the same error's. Once I try dialing the screen will go blank. The call will go through to the phone I call but I can't hear them and they can't hear me. Then com.android.phone will FC. The phone stays connected though. I have to actually reboot the phone or the call won't end.... Any help would be appreciated, or any ideas to try. Thanks
Anyone have any ideas ???
Try pulling the phone apk from ur ROM zip and pushin to sys app

Maybe try using tdj' s super wipe script. Its in the dev section. Sounds like something got out of whack. After running the script you will need to reflash your rom.

I ran tdj Super wipe and then flashed jugernaut and still have the same problem. I wonder if it's possible the CM7 Kang install caused a hardware issue.. Hope not as I really do not want an expensive paperweight...
Look for ROM Manager on the market. There's a feature that lets you fix file system permissions. That should hopefully help you with your force close issues.

already did fix permissions with rom manager. DID Not Help

download a different dialer app from market and see if that helps
F Odin to stock with a proper pit file (if available). Odin the default modem. There's no way it won't work after that.

Try clearing cache then dalvick cache then run fix permissions and reboot sometimes works.
If not backup and format data and system and flash ROM zip (download and save ROM zip to sdcard before formatting /system)
It usually is a corrupt system file sometimes happens to me with lots of tweaking and testing LoL
